U.S. defense chief hints at military option on North Korea which could spare Seoul from 'grave risk' - Duration: 1:12.

There may be a way to deal with North Korea militarily,... without putting South Korea

at risk of a devastating counterattack.

That's coming from the U.S. Defense Chief... who did not disclose further details.

Jim Mattis did add, redeploying nuclear weapons in Korea was discussed with his counterpart

in the nation.

Kim Hyo-sun shares with us his remarks.

U.S. Defense Secretary James Mattis has hinted at a possible military option on North Korea

that would spare South Korea from grave risk.

Mattis was speaking to reporters on Monday,... but he refused to elaborate about the specific

option,... according to Reuters.

He also explained that diplomacy and sanctions will prove effective in pressuring the regime.

While Mattis confirmed that he did discuss the issue of redeploying tactical nuclear

weapons on the Korean Peninsula,... when he sat down with his South Korean counterpart

last month,... Reuters said he didn't make it clear whether the measure is currently

under review.

The Pentagon chief also said the U.S. did not shoot down the ballistic missile that

North Korea fired over Japan last week,... as the allies did not consider it a direct

threat to their national security.

Hurricane Maria makes push toward Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands after devastating Dominica - Duration: 1:34.

Hurricane Maria is headed to the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico.

After leaving a massive trail of destruction in Dominica on Monday night local time...

the storm is landfall on Puerto Rico on Wednesday.

Cho Sung-min gets us up to speed with the force of nature.

According to the U.S. National Hurricane Center, Maria is due to hit the Virgin Islands by

Tuesday afternoon, local time, and reach the shores of Puerto Rico by Wednesday.

The agency says the hurricane will most likely make landfall on the U.S. territory as a category

4 storm as its wind speed has been dropped to 250 kilometers per hour.

It did, however, say there's a chance the hurricane could pick up strength and beome

a category 5 again.

But category 4 or 5, Puerto Rico is unlikely to escape massive damage.

The agency said storm surges could raise water levels by 1-point-8 to 2-point-7 meters,...

which would leave some parts uninhabitable for weeks or months.

President Trump has declared states of emergency on Monday in both Puerto Rico and the Virgin

Islands.

Authorities in Puerto Rico are warning people in wooden homes to find sturdy shelter before

the storm arrives.

It also said there are 500 shelters that can hold up to around 130-thousand people in the

worst case scenario.

Meanwhile, the Federal Emergency Management Agency says it has enough water supplies and

stored up electricity to get the island through the storm's immediate aftermath.

Puerto Rico has not had a direct hit from a hurricane since 1998.

Spain is latest nation to expel North Korean ambassador - Duration: 1:46.

Spain is kicking the ambassador from North Korea out of the country,... in response to

the regime's continued nuclear threats.

It joins the growing list of nations that are trying to send a stern message and tighten

the noose around Pyongyang.

For more on this development we turn to our Kwon Jang-ho.

The Spanish foreign ministry told the North Korean ambassador on Monday that it's time

to go.

They informed him that he was considered a 'persona non grata' due to his regime's continued

pursuit of nuclear weapons, and was told to leave Spain by the end of the month.

Spain now joins a growing a list of countries from all corners of the world who have taken

similar action in recent weeks.

Mexico and Peru have expelled their North Korean ambassadors, along with Kuwait, who

also ordered the embassy staff to be reduced from eight to four.

The Philippines earlier this month also announced that it would cease trading with the rogue

state.

The U.S. has been calling on all countries to cut their diplomatic and financial ties

to North Korea, following the latest UN Security Council resolution.

The kicking out of these diplomats is expected to create some economic obstacles for the

regime, and affect North Koreans working in those countries.

But although it does send a message, without cutting off diplomatic ties entirely, such

actions can be seen as more of a symbolic gesture.

(Korean - ) "For North Korea, it will cause difficulties

in their usual channels of illegal smuggling and affect their economic relationship with

these countries.

However it's more about sending a message to the regime.

If international pressure increases further it could lead to greater diplomatic action,

but those nations will want to see how North Korea reacts first.'

Kwon Jang-ho, Arirang News.

2,500 cruise tourists from Taiwan visit Korea's Busan on Tuesday - Duration: 2:49.

The nation's cruise sectors was one of the hardest hit industries when China imposed

a ban on group tour to Korea.

But Korea has been coming up with measures to lessen dependency on Chinese visitors,...

and its efforts are bearing fruits.

Lee Ji-won provides a closer look.

A cruise carrying some 25-hundred tourists arrived in Korea's southern port city of Busan

early Tuesday morning.

Having departed from Taiwan on Sunday,... Sapphire Princess made a one day-stop in Korea

as part of a seven day trip around East Asia.

Unlike last year, when there was only one cruise coming from Taiwan, Tuesday's trip

is the fourth time that a cruise from Taiwan has docked at the port city this year,...

carrying some 95-hundred tourists to Busan.

The majority of Korea's cruise tourists used to come from China,... which accounted for

over 90 percent of the nearly two-million cruise tourists visiting Korea last year.

But with Beijing banning group tours to Korea in March in retaliation for Seoul's deployment

of the THAAD missile defense system, Korea's cruise industry has been hard hit,... seeing

a more than 90-percent on-year fall in cruise tourists in May and June.

Since the ban,... Korea's tourism industry, including Busan Port Authority, has been active

in trying to diversify its tourists,… and Taiwan is one promising market.

Port authorities expect the number of Taiwanese cruise tourists to jump from 250-thousand

last year, to well over 300-thousand this year.

With limited time to explore the city, many cruise tourists opt for a one-day tour to

see Busan's famous sites.

(Stndp) "One of the stops on the tour is the BIFF

square.

Every year, the city hosts the world-renowned Busan International Film Festival,... and

in this area tourists can enjoy the history of Korean films while tucking in to some local

street foods."

From spicy rice-cakes,... to Busan's famous sweet pancakes, Hodduk,… there's plenty

of Korean snacks to taste.

And on the streets are hand prints of famous movie directors and stars,... as well as posters

of some of the country's most well-known movies.

(Chn) "This fish cake is very tasty It's my first

time I've been to Busan.

The food is great and this place is really exciting "

Port authorities say they are working on diverse tour packages that can attract more tourists

from other countries next year.

(Korean) "Our promotion activities focused mainly on

Taiwan this year,... but we will expand our marketing into other Southeast Asian countries,

such as Hong Kong, Indonesia and Malaysia to share Korea's beautiful traditions."

Lee Ji-won, Arirang News, Busan.

NATO Days in Ostrava - Duration: 2:16.

We are at NATO Days in Ostrava, Czech Republic, one of the biggest displays of security forces

equipment and capabilities anywhere in Europe.

And we're going to check out some of the hardware.

This is the Gripen Saab 39er.

It's from Czech Air Force.

The maximum speed of this plane is Mach point two.

2,200 kilometres per hour.

Two times we have been in the Baltic States and three times NATO Air Policing mission

in Iceland.

We've seen aircraft of all different shapes and sizes but perhaps the largest and most

impressive is this.

Behind us we have the B-1B Lancer but we don't call it the Lancer, we call it the Bone.

It is a supersonic heavy bomber.

It can go faster than the speed of sound, 1.2 Mach, and then it's got payload, so

we can carry up to 24 2,000-pound weapons or 84 500-pound unguided weapons.

So this particular B-1 has been into Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria and then the most recent

deployment was to Guam.

But of course NATO Days isn't just about military aircraft.

The public here have been treated to demonstrations by the fire department, the police and the

medical services.

And while they may have enjoyed the barrel rolls and the vehicle crushing, for host nation

Czech Republic, this event takes on added significance.

It is very important for our visitors to see the various NATO countries, and the Czech

Republic as part of the NATO family.

Because of our NATO membership, our country has the absolutely highest security guarantee

in our modern history.

Amalia Hernandez |ballet folklorico de amalia hernandez | amalia hernandez ballet folklorico - Duration: 1:37.

Google Doodle Marks 100th Birthday of Dancer and Choreographer Amalia Hernandez

Google unveiled a new Doodle Tuesday to celebrate the 100th birthday of Amalia Hernandez, the dancer and choreographer remembered as an ambassador of Mexican culture.

Born on Sept. 19, 1917, Hernandez's early passion for dance ultimately led her to establish the Ballet Folklorico de Mexico. She first joined the Fine Arts National Institute as a choreographer and taught modern dance. But her focus would shift to traditional Mexican folk dances.

By combining folk dances with the choreographed movements she acquired from her formal training, Hernandez created a new dance style, the baile folklorico.

Since its inception in 1952, Ballet Folklorico de Mexico has been seen by more than 22 million people and still performs to this day. It has more than 300 members, significantly more than the eight it began with.

The dance troupe gained prominence after it first performed on TV in 1954, leading to a weekly broadcast. The successes that followed included Hernandez's group representing Mexico in the 1959 Pan American Games.

Hernandez remained deeply involved in the dance company all her life, until her death in 2000 at age 83.
