If you're looking to swap out your exhaust on your TJ and you want to go with a much
more compact, off-road style exhaust like this, chances are you're doing some wheeling
and you want less piping out the back of your Jeep to get banged up on the rocks.
Today we're gonna talk through the installation of this exhaust system, which is going to
be a pretty simple one out of three wrench install.
You should be able to do this in your driveway in about an hour's time.
But with those older TJs you might have some... some rust on your exhaust system, which may
make the process take a little bit longer.
Either way, still pretty simple, and we'll talk through the details in just a second.
A much shorter system like this without an over axle tailpipe will also be a little bit
louder than a system with a tailpipe.
That additional piping will mellow out the sound a little bit.
This is gonna give you a bit more of a raw, aggressive and louder exhaust note.
Now, MagnaFlow exhaust systems are generally going to be a little bit more expensive than
some of the other ones out there, and that is because of the quality that you're gonna
get, and also from the sound that you're gonna get.
Some exhaust systems can have some drone at different speeds.
MagnaFlow's gonna give you a really nice sound.
That really low and loud exhaust note that you go... you're gonna be after.
And because this system doesn't have a tailpipe, a little bit less material, and it is gonna
be a little bit less expensive than some of their full systems that include a new tailpipe.
Now, this system is going to be available for those of you with the '97 and '99 and
the 2000 to 2006 TJs.
Of course, this system is designed to go right onto the larger catalytic converter of the
older TJs, where the other system is gonna be very similar, just has a different flange
on the backside, and that's gonna be for those of you with the mini cats.
This system from Magnaflow is going to include this bullet style muffler that's about 14
inches long, 5 inches in diameter.
And then it's going to have your turndown tip with a hanger welded on it that will use
your factory exhaust hanger in that factory location, making install very easy.
The big feature of this system is that there is no over axle tailpipe.
This is going to be a shorter system, less pipe to get banged up, and a little bit louder
noise.
This is going to be made of a high-grade stainless material.
You may end up getting a little bit of surface rust on this, but this is not going to rust
out like an aluminized system would.
So to get this installed on your Jeep, again, I am giving it a one out of three wrenches
and about an hour's time.
Although, if you have an especially rusty TJ, it may take you a little bit longer.
Although, there are some ways to get around that, as well.
Now, the first step in this installation is going to be removing your old system, which
you'll do by removing the clamp, holding your muffler to your catalytic converter.
You can also remove any other clamps and hangers that you have, working from the front to the
back of the Jeep.
Get everything loosened up.
Once you have that removed, you might be able to wiggle that over axle pipe out in one piece,
if you choose not to cut it.
Once all that old stuff's out of the way, getting this installed is gonna be very, very
easy.
This is gonna come with all the clamps you need.
You simply slide the muffler over the exit of the catalytic converter.
Use the clamp to tighten it down and use your factory rubber exhaust hanger to attach that
to the factory hanger that's already on your Jeep.
Slide the, uh... turn down tip over the other end of the muffler.
Again, using the clamp to tighten it down.
Very simple process.
Anyone can do it.
If you have some rust it might fight you a little bit.
But, all in all, very easy to install.
As far as the MagnaFlow system goes, this is gonna be a little bit less expensive than
some of the others that include all of that over axle piping, of course.
There's just more material there that they don't have to charge you for when you're getting
in a short, compact off-road system like this one.
However, in general, again, MagnaFlow's gonna have a quality system.
A lot of R&D goes into it.
It's going to be quality materials.
So these are going to be a little bit more expensive than some of the others out there...
So, whether you're just looking for some additional exhaust volume and a lower exhaust note out
of your TJ, or you have a rusted-out factory exhaust that you're trying to replace...or
maybe you hit the trails a lot and you're just tired of digging up your exhaust pipe
and your tailpipe, this is going to be a compact system that's gonna give you great sound and
be very high quality.
Although it will be a little bit more expensive than those base model systems out there.
So, that's my review of the Magnaflow Pro Series Cat-Back Exhaust System, fitting your
1997 to 2006 TJs that you can find right here at extremeterrain.com
