Hey, welcome back and if this is your first time here then welcome!
Today we're going to be looking at what's been my daily driver for the last seven months
and we're going to find out if it's still a viable option in 2017.
It's the ZTE Axon 7.. so here we go.
So at the time of this recording, this phone sells for about $400 US.
While it may not have the specs of a
flagship phone in 2017, it still has some pretty
respectable horsepower behind it.
some of the quick specs of the device are a 2.15 Ghz
Snapdragon 820 processor.
With the Adreno 530 GPU.
4 GB of RAM, 64 GB of storage
and the storage is expandable through a micro-SD card slot,
3250 mHh battery with quick charge 3.0,
and the device originally shipped with Marshmallow
6.0.1, but the most currently
available version of Android is 7.1.
On the front of the device is the 8 Megapixel front facing camera,
speakers and the 5.5"
AMOLED display with a PPI of 538,
a resolution of 2560x1440
and Gorilla Glass 4, for that great scratch resistance.
So those speakers on the front provide
a really, really rich, deep sound. They probably have the best
sound reproduction of any mobile device
that I've used over the past couple of years. At the top of the device
is a microphone and a 3.5mm
headphone jack. Moving around to the left side, the only thing that's
visible is the release for the drawer containing the SIM,
and the Micro-SD card slot, or
another SIM, so this is a dual SIM device.
The right side of the device has the volume rocker and
power button. At the bottom we have the USB-C port
and microphone. On the back of the device
is the fingerprint reader, flash and
20 MP camera. The fingerprint reader on this device
is actually very accurate and quick
there's not a whole lot of lag between the time you put your finger
on the sensor and it unlocks the screen, it works
really well. So another great feature of this device
is the camera. In addition to beautiful,
crisp, 20 MP photos
it also supports shooting at 4K at 30fps,
1080p at 30 or 60 fps
and 720p. So as far as the
performance of this device, I don't really like to run benchmarks
I like to judge a device more on the feel and
the feel the ZTE AXON 7 is excellent!
Navigating, multitasking, playing games are all
very smooth, even some graphically intensive games,
I didn't see any hic-cups, it was buttery smooth
and a really enjoyable experience.
The WiFi and Mobile Data signal strength are both fantastic on this phone,
I didn't have any problems with drop outs, dropped calls, anything like that.
The only time I had an issue was with the normal light and
dead spots in my area that I would have with any mobile device.
So one thing that set this phone apart when I bought it and some
respect still does, is the compatibility with
Google Daydream. If you're not familiar with Google Daydream
It's a VR offering, from Google, but it's only
for select phones and I'll put a link down in the
description if you want more details on that. So the Google Daydream
consists of the headset and a little controller. That Controller
pairs to your phone through NFC and
it works really well. So as I mentioned the phone comes with that
3250 mAh battery and that
is plenty to get you through an entire day of average usage.
I very rarely have to charge my phone in the middle of the day and I just
charge it at night when I sleep. So even with some great releases this
year like the Galaxy Note 8, the Xiaomi Mi A1,
the essential phone, iPhone 8 coming out
later in the year,
the ZTE Axon 7 is still a really good contender in 2017.
It may not have flagship killer
specs anymore but, the
performance on the phone is great and, I personally, don't see a
need to upgrade yet. It does everything I wand it to do
Does it fast and flawlessly.
