Hey guys today I'm gonna talk about a few tools I'm gonna make you a better
filmmaker. as a filmmaker I like to make every part of each video or film that I
make completely by myself if at all humanly possible but knowing what you
have in your skill set what you're good at and what you need to work on is a
necessity it's called knowing yourself what I like
most in my skill set is doing motion graphics and visual effects I know that
about myself and I've come to terms with it usually when a gig comes up depending
on the budget I'll usually ship motion graphics or visual effects off to
somebody that's professional that's not always in the budget and I'm a guy that
really hates to turn down jobs just for reasons of pride because I don't know
how to do something and I'll always look for the opportunity in every situation
when something comes up that is either a quick turnaround or it's just a little
out of your skill set what do you do I use a video template using sites like
envato or video blocks you can find some really awesome looking templates that
fit almost every look and feel that you're going for and most of them cost
under 30 bucks recently I was approached to do a promo
for a album that's releasing and it was a really tight turnaround and I really
wanted to work with this artist using my experience I knew exactly what he was
looking for but I knew that there was no way I can get another visual effects guy
to do it and I knew that building the entire thing was gonna be impossible and
the tight turnaround that I had to do it so I went to videohive which is part of
him Botto and I found a template that matched
almost exactly what he was looking for there was a lot of work that still
needed to be done but I knew what to look for in the template
pretty good for a four-hour job right so what I did with the template was I used
all the pre design elements but treated it as a shot I didn't use the template
as a paint-by-number guide I just use it as using elements that already existed
so when when you see something sweep in or you see the text pop in and out that
was already pre-designed and it was something that I probably would have
design-wise done anyway and really like an added bonus for using templates is
this is how I learned how to use Adobe After Effects have you ever used video
