Hi, this is Dr. Hourglass, and welcome to another video in our channel Wonder Breasts.
Today we are going to discuss: Post-operative consultation after breast reduction.
In this channel we discuss everything related to breast surgery.

Breast reduction is a surgical procedure that can reduce overly large breasts by removing both skin
and mammary gland.
The procedure reduces the volume of the breast and corrects the sagginess and
any pre-existing mammary asymmetry.
The position and dimensions of the areola and nipple complex can also be changed during
the breast reduction surgery.
The procedure is a complex and lengthy one, so it is always performed under general anesthesia
and can take in between two to four hours, depending on the particularities of each case.
The patient is required to spend 24-48 hours in the medical facility.
Because the procedure entails considerable surgical incisions to eliminate a part of the mammary gland,
considerable swelling can be expected.
The dressing is removed the next day after surgery.
A new dressing will be put on the incisions, and the patient needs to wear a special bra.
Usually, it is a sports bra that will provide support for the new breasts.
Even if there are no sutures to remove (they are fully absorbable), the patient needs to return
to the medical facility to have the drain tubes removed a few days after the surgery.
Several follow-up consultations are carried out, approximately one month, three months
and six months after the surgery.
These post-operative consultations are essential for the success of the intervention.
During these sessions, the surgeon will assess the results, evaluate the cicatrization process,
and monitor your recovery.
During the first months after surgery, several complications can occur such as seroma and
hematoma, swelling and bruising, infection and so on.
Some of them can be easily noticed and diagnosed by the patient, but others will require evaluation
from the plastic surgeon.
Wound dehiscence can also occur after breast reduction surgery.
It is important not to try and treat any side effects or potential complications at home
or following bits of advice from the internet.
The plastic surgeon knows best what to do in each situation, and this is why it is important
to go to the post-operative consultations after breast reduction surgery.
