Hey there, welcome to Life Noggin.

You humans love to put yourselves into categories.

Dog person or cat person.

Type A or type B. Scorpio or Taurus.

I'll admit, even I do this sometimes.

(I'm a Ravenclaw, Virgo, ENFJ, and I love dogs AND cats, in case you were wondering.)

People even use these categories to make important life decisions!

We think of these things like the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator and other personality tests

as giving us some sort of explanation of why we are the way we are.

Because of that we place a ton of weight on them when it comes to decisions like what

career path to go down or which college to attend.

We treat them like they're based on scientific facts.

But are they really all that meaningful?

Well for starters, let's define these terms.

The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, also known as the MBTI, is a test that supposedly reveals

four facets of your personality: introversion vs. extraversion, sensing vs. intuition, thinking

vs. feeling, and judging vs. perceiving.

It involves a series of questions about your tendencies and preferences, all of which results

in a set of four letters that are supposed to sum you up as a person.

Apparently people who are Introverted, Sensing, Thinking, and Judging are best suited for

jobs as school administrators, airline pilots, or dentists, while ESFPs should work as teachers,

flight attendants, or dental hygienists.

Seriously.

Another common personality descriptor that people love to read into is their zodiac sign.

Your zodiac sign, which is a sign given to you based on how the sun was aligned when

you were born, is thought by many to determine a lot of your characteristics.

For instance, a Scorpio (which is someone born between October 23rd and November 21st)

is supposed to be jealous and stubborn, while a Capricorn (someone born between December

22nd and January 19th) is responsible and condescending.

One common thread among these personality tests and horoscopes is something called the

Barnum Effect, which basically says that people believe that personality descriptions given

as results of a personality test are highly accurate and suit them specifically, even

when the same list of traits is actually given to everyone who took the personality test.

This is because the given traits are what's known as high base-rate characteristics, meaning

that they're true of a large portion of the population.

Examples of high base-rate characteristics are statements like "sometimes you're

too hard on yourself" or "you really want other people to like you."

Does that sound just like you?

Well, it sounds like a lot of people.

That's the point.

So now if you're thinking "these tests don't sound very scientific," well, you're

right.

While the creators of the MBTI test claimed it was based on the work of psychologist C.G.

Jung, many modern psychologists agree that it's not really based in legitimate psychology.

In fact, a group of characteristics known as the Big Five—which are extraversion,

neuroticism, agreeableness, conscientiousness, and openness—are regarded as alternative

personality descriptors that are actually based on the scientific method.

It's believed that the Big Five may actually have some bearing on things like job performance,

and some scientists have even worked to locate regions of the brain that can be associated

with individual aspects of the Big Five.

In their 2010 study, they found that conscientiousness, for example, is significantly correlated with

the volume of the middle frontal gyrus, a section of the brain's prefrontal cortex.

So while the Big Five appear to be legitimate, the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator and other

tests that heavily depend on the Barnum Effect seem… fake.

It's all fun and good to put yourself in a box and label it with four letters that

claim to define you as a person, but it's pretty much meaningless.

So don't worry if you don't know your personality type or if it changes every time

you take the test—it won't do you that much good anyway.

And you're fine the way you are!

So do you have certain personality type?

Do you believe in horescopes?

Let me know in the comment section below.

Or tell us, what should we talk about next!

As always, my name is Blocko and this has been Life Noggin.

Don't forget to keep on thinking!

Trump receives 'royal treatment' in Beijing - Duration: 1:57.

As it has been during the 2 previous visits of his Asia tour, a lot of attention is on

how the American leader is being welcomed by his host.

According to our Kim Mok-yeon Beijing takes the cake in that category.

In fact, some dubbed the gestures as an "imperial treatment," which includes a few unprecedented

honors.

Since U.S. President Donald Trump landed in China,...

Beijing has been rolling out the red carpet, giving the American leader the royal treatment.

As he and the first lady arrived in Beijing on Wednesday, they were greeted by a small

army of children waving American and Chinese flags as part of an elaborate welcoming ceremony.

They were then whisked to the Forbidden City where President Xi Jinping and his wife Peng

Liyuan gave the Trumps a personal tour of China's rich and ancient history.

The U.S. president and first lady were also given the honor of dining in the former seat

of emperors,... Trump becoming the first foreign leader to have an official dinner in the historic

venue since founding of the People's Republic in 1949.

China's Ambassador to the U.S. Cui Tiankai earlier stressed the importance and significance

of President Trump's visit, claiming that it would be a "state visit plus".

During the second day of the trip, President Xi welcomed Trump by holding a grand 15 minute

welcoming ceremony in Tiananmen Square, shutting down the usually busy traffic around the square.

Another piece of special treatment President Trump enjoyed in China was that he was able

to tweet during his trip.

Though China officially has blocked mainland access to Twitter and other global social

networking services since 2009, President Trump didn't seem to have any difficulty with

the ban, as he posted several tweets thanking the Chinese leader for his hospitality.

Ahead of Trump's arrival, China's Vice Foreign Minister Zhang Zeguang said that the U.S.

President will be able to tweet as much as he wants, adding that China takes everything

into account regarding visits from foreign heads of state.

No specifics yet on U.S. arms sales to S. Korea: Acting U.S. Ambassador - Duration: 0:46.

U.S. president Donald Trump said Seoul agreed to purchase billions of dollars worth of military

equipment from Washington.

So far no specifics have been arranged.

That's according to the acting US ambassador to South Korea, Marc Knapper at a meeting

with reporters on Thursday.

Although Trump discussed the sale of the American hardware with President Moon Jae-in, they

were unable to get into the details... given the limited time he had in Seoul.

Knapper noted there are still existing orders to be filled, such as the F-35 fighters.

But Seoul needs to make decisions on other items, such as Apache helicopters, the Aegis

radar system.... and the P-8 naval aircraft.

The acting ambassador added, overall, Trump's visit was a success, as it helped deepen the

relationship between the two countries and their leaders.

WATCH: Trump & Melania Disembark In China, Look Down & Can't Believe Their Eyes - TODAY NEWS - Duration: 3:36.

President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump are currently in the midst of a nearly

two-week journey through Asia, which will see the couple making stops in five different

countries.

On Wednesday, the historic trip saw Donald and Melania Trump land in China.

When they disembarked from Air Force One, the pair looked down and they couldn't believe

their eyes.

Trump kicked off his overseas trip with a two-day stop in Japan, where his daughter

Ivanka had attended the World Assembly for Women 2017 just days earlier.

In Tokyo, the president met with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

In a successful bid to strengthen diplomatic ties between the U.S. and Japan, Trump spent

time with Abe on the golf course and at Akasaka Palace, where the pair fed koi fish together

before meeting with the Japanese Emperor.

Then, it was on to South Korea, where Trump attempted to visit a demilitarized zone but

was unable to make the trek due to heavy fog.

After delivering a highly-anticipated speech, the president was off to China.

According to Based Patriot, President Trump and First Lady Melania arrived to a full military

symphony and children waving American and Chinese flags in Beijing, China, on Wednesday.

On Wednesday, President Trump and First Lady Melania left South Korea and flew to China

for the third leg of their Asian tour.

While there, they will meet with China's president Xi, and will be discussing ways

of maintaining control over North Korea.

This is an important stop on Trump's tour, as China is responsible for much of North

Korea's economic expansion.

When Trump and Melania stepped off of Airforce One in China, they couldn't believe their

eyes!

The welcome that the Chinese had prepared for them was absolutely incredible!

There was a line of people out to greet them – both military and government officials.

At the end of the line was a huge gathering of children waving Chinese and American flags

– making a tunnel for the President and First Lady to walk under.

[Source: US Truth Wire] It is becoming abundantly clear how well-respected

President Trump is around the world, which is a welcome change from his predecessor,

former President Barack Obama, who became the laughing stock of world leaders because

of his weak foreign policy.

Indeed, it seems that at every stop in his overseas tour, President Trump has been honored

by his foreign hosts.

In South Korea, Trump was treated to a surprise greeting by President Moon Jae-in at Camp

Humphreys.

It was a major break in the protocol for the South Korean president to meet Trump at the

U.S. military base, and the move was regarded as a gesture towards better relations between

the two world leaders.

The welcome the first family received today in China was even more momentous.

It's nice to finally see the President of the United States being treated with the respect

he rightfully deserves around the world.

After all, this is the leader of the free world we're talking about.

He should be treated to military symphonies and parades.

It is incredible to see other countries giving our president the respect he deserves, even

as some in America fail to show the appropriate appreciation.

Hopefully, the mainstream media will be taking note of the admiration that the rest of the

world has for our president.

Trump Delivers Slap In The Face To Obama With One Hidden Detail During His Visit To China - Duration: 4:02.

President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump are currently amid their nearly two-week

Asia tour.

At the moment, they are being welcomed on their first official visit to China.

However, with what occurred when they arrived, Trump was effectively able to deliver former

President Barack Obama a figurative slap in the face with one hidden detail during his

visit to China.

President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump are on the third leg of their Asia tour,

currently visiting China.

After landing in Beijing, the Trumps were able to meet up with Chinese President Xi

Jinping and his wife Peng Liyuan.

During their recent dinner together, President Trump was able to get a dig in on Obama with

one hidden detail that will surely make his predecessor's blood boil.

Although former President Barack Obama wanted the world to treat him like royalty, it seems

he never quite got it.

Instead, during the G-20 Summit last year, when he was in Beijing, Obama was treated

the exact opposite – he was "snubbed."

Little did he realize then that it would be the one man he would come to despise, his

replacement, Donald Trump, who would later be treated like royalty.

Upon their arrival, the Chinese government granted the Trumps an opportunity to tour

and be served a rare dinner at the Forbidden City.

The honor to do so has not been "bestowed on a foreign leader since the founding of

the People's Republic of China 68 years ago," according to Daily Caller.

The Forbidden City, a massive palace complex, was the residence of the imperial family for

centuries.

It currently is a world-famous site, which was intentionally shut down for visits between

the leaders of two of the world's most powerful countries.

— TRUMP News 24/7 (@MichaelDelauzon) November 8, 2017

"Xi is going to treat Trump almost like an emperor," Ming Wang, a professor of government

and politics at George Mason University, told CNN.

In fact, he went on to argue that China "will give Trump an exceptional reception, essentially

they'll try to make Trump happy."

How embarrassing is this for Obama? Trump is being treated like royalty, given an honor

that no leader has seen in 68 years.

To add icing to the proverbial cake, Obama was downright "snubbed" — and now, Trump

is being treated in a notably different way.

The two presidents are expected to discuss bilateral trade and North Korea, but there's

no telling yet whether China's treatment of Trump is an indicator that he will help

sway their policies.

Trump has only spoken highly of China's president, who happens to also be China's

strongest leader in decades, making many believe that their conversations will result in a

positive relationship and beneficial outcomes for both countries.

It's truly remarkable how much of a difference we've seen in how our country is treated

on the world stage since Trump took office.

Although the liberal media would like Americans to think that he's an abominable president,

it seems their assessment is based on the fact that they lost because they were wrong

about Hillary Clinton and they were humiliated on election night.

Clearly, Trump was the better candidate, and he's only further proved that with how he

is respected by other leaders.

Obama has unintentionally been knocked down a peg or two by Trump since the current president's

first day in office, and that undoubtedly has to make his blood boil.

No one likes to feel inferior, but considering Obama thought he was royalty during his time

as president, the fact that Trump of all people is really becoming someone who is not only

admired but respected across the world has got to be infuriating.

It feels good to have a President who is seen as a superior leader by even those with their

own power.

Indonesia welcomes Pres. Moon, bilateral summit held - Duration: 1:09.

Let's start things off with president Moon Jae-in's first ever state visit.

The result of his meeting with his Indonesian counterpart Joko Widodo were unveiled through

a joint press conference.

They agreed to upgrade ties to 'special strategic partnership'... and to launch new high-level

dialogue on defense and foreign issues.

While discussing North Korean threats, the two leaders expressed 'grave' concern over

the regime's nuke test... and reaffirmed their support for the complete, verifiable and irreversible

denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.

On the economic front, the Moon and Widodo promised to boost bilateral trade volume to

30 billion dollars by 2022.

As for next year's winter games to be hosted by South Korea's Pyeongchang and the Asian

Games in Jakarta, they also agreed to support each other to ensure the events' success.

Plus they intend to explore ways to utilize those sporting events for the facilitation

of people-to-people exchanges.

Also Seoul agreed to simplify visa issuance process for Indonesian tourists.

Before sitting down for talks, a grand welcoming ceremony was held at the Presidential Palace

in Bogor,... about 60 kilometers away from the capital.

The Metamorphosis | Chapter 1.3 | How to Read in English - Duration: 6:40.

Surprise! This is the Metamorphosis, by this dude, mr. Franz Kafka. it's such a fun

book. if you are here for the first time, I am so happy that you're joining us, but

hey, start here at the beginning of the book! and then the most important thing,

click down here – three dots, to read with me and especially to use the imitation

technique. our boy Gregor is having the strangest

morning that anybody could possibly have! let's see what he's up to now. the first

thing he wanted to do was to get up in peace without being disturbed. to get

dressed and most of all to have his breakfast. only then would he consider

what to do next. as he was well aware that he would not bring his thoughts to

any sensible conclusions by lying in bed. he remembered that he had often felt a

slight pain in bed, perhaps caused by lying awkwardly. that had always turned

out to be pure imagination, and he wondered how his imaginings would slowly

resolve themselves today. he did not have the slightest doubt that the change in

his voice was nothing more than the first sign of a serious cold, which was

an occupational hazard for travelling salesmen. Oh Gregor! I'm so sorry but I

don't think so – there's some really good words all in one paragraph, so let's take

a look. disturbed can have two completely different meanings. if you disturb

someone or if you are disturbed by someone, it means bothered. to be annoyed

or irritated by someone else, or to do that to someone. however if a person is

disturbed, if this is their permanent condition, it means they are crazy. really

weird, sickos, oddballs, something like that, any of those. if something is

sensible, it is likely to be of benefit, it is prudent, wise, a good decision if

it's sensible, to resolve something is to fix, to find a solution to something. he

says that a cold is an occupational hazard. because of course, he travels. if

something is occupational, it is related to your work or occupation. so this is a

work hazard, or danger. risk. that's a hazard. turning into a bug is a hazard to

your health! alright let's go back to the book. it was a simple matter to throw off

the covers. he only had to blow himself up a little and they fell off by

themselves. but it became difficult after that especially as he was so

exceptionally broad. he would have used his arms and his hands to push himself

up, but instead of them he only had all those little legs continuously moving in

different directions, in which he was moreover unable to control. if he wanted

to bend one of them then that was the first one that would stretch itself out,

and if he finally managed to do what he wanted with that leg, all

the others seemed to be set free. and would move about painfully. "this is something

that can't be done in bed!" Gregor said to himself "don't keep trying to do it!" the

first thing he wanted to do was to get the lower part of his body out of the

bed, but he had never seen this lower part and could not imagine what it

looked like. it turned out to be too hard to move. it went so slowly and finally,

almost in a frenzy, when he carelessly shoved himself forwards with all the

force he could gather, he chose the wrong direction.

hit hard against a lower bedpost, and learned from the burning pain he felt,

that the lower part of his body might well, at present, be the most sensitive.

this probably sounds like a lot of us in the morning, right?

Ah, Gregor says that his body now is is very broad. broad just means wide. if someone

has bad aim, you know if you try to shoot something or make a basket, if someone is

very bad, you can say that they can't hit the broad side of a barn. the broad side

of a building means the wide side. *bumbum bumbum* Gregor says he would move about

painfully. I don't think Gregor is talking about physical pain. here,

painfully means more so tedious, very strenuous and exhausting. so he's doing

it painfully, again he does talk about pain, but I think he's talking more about

the difficulty of doing this very simple task. of course he's trying to keep

himself composed. to stay calm. however things turn into a frenzy, a frenzy is

just a very chaotic situation, and if you do something in a frenzy, it's very

rushed and haphazard. and that's what's happening to Gregor, he's losing his cool.

he's getting a bit upset with himself. he hit the lower bedpost. the bedpost

basically the– the four legs and that supporting structure underneath the

mattress. here is the bedpost so you can take a look. the mattress is the cushion

that you sleep on. okay let's go back to the book. so then he tried to get the top

part of his body out of bed first. carefully turning his head to the side.

this he managed quite easily and despite its breadth and

its weight, the bulk of his body eventually followed slowly in the

direction of the head, but when he had at last got his head out of the bed and

into the fresh air, it occurred to him that if he let himself fall it would be

a miracle if his head were not injured. so he became afraid to carry on pushing

himself forward the same way, and he could not knock himself out now at any

price. better to stay in bed than lose consciousness. he's talking about moving

the bulk of his body. that means the mass, the weight of his body. Breadth, there is

a D in here, it sounds very similar to breath, the stuff that comes out of your

mouth, but here B r e a d t h, is talking about the distance or measurement of

something. how big something is. when we use breadth, it's usually talking about

something larger, I think. it's not a very common word, so if you don't use this

word already, I would ignore it and just recognize it when you are reading or –or

listening to someone. finally Gregor slows down a little bit, because he

realizes he might fall and lose consciousness. consciousness is just to

be awake. to be aware. the adjective is conscious. and to be conscious of

something, means to be aware or know of or about something. to lose consciousness =

we can say to get knocked out, if you're knocked out it is by force. for example,

in the US with American football, the players are often knocked out and they

get concussions. this book is very well translated, the– the vocabulary choice I

think is excellent! poor old Gregor, this is like the Odyssey

of just getting out of bed. if you have any questions or if you want to

experiment using some of this vocabulary, to make sure you understand it,

definitely put it in the comments of this video!

always a pleasure guys, so I will see you soon – enjoy yourselves!

ciao for now! bye
