Back when I was a young' I was told by my momma NOT to interact with strangers on the
internet... and now here I am in 2018 making a YouTube video for...
MOSTLY strangers about Facebook Marketplace.
So if you're an individual in your 20's, you're probably riding the struggle bus with me.
We're probably on the same ride, y'know, same destination to success, ya feel me?
I'm not that materialistic of a person.
I'd rather look for something that functions rather than having a luxury item.
If it does its job well, cool.
If it does its job a little bit better and the finances allow for it to be there, then
yeah, I'll consider it.
When you're in your 20's, it's hard.
You gotta hustle.
You gotta make things happen.
Alright, enough of this motivational talk, let's talk about Facebook Marketplace.
So if you're looking at this video, you're probably curious about Facebook Marketplace
because you're like me, in your 20's, or you're just curious about Facebook Marketplace.
Now I've actually had SEVERAL experiences, starting this year.
I've sold things on it and I've bought things on it.
It all started back in February whenever I sold my iMac that I had throughout college.
Now Apple fanboys, put your pitchforks down.
I have a MacBook Pro and it's very nice.
The iMac was more of a thing that was nice to have, but I didn't use it anywhere near
as much as I use my MacBook.
So, I thought, y'know, there's someone else that will use it and that will actually have,
y'know, use it for its purpose and give it the love and attention that it needs.
So I looked on other websites to kinda get quotes and see how much I'd get for it.
After doing a little bit of research, I noticed a lot of them were lowballing me by like $200,
which is quite significant.
So I took to Facebook Marketplace because I had never used it before, but I figured
y'know what, let's give it a shot.
So I put it on there, I took a bunch of pictures, put all the specs of the computer, and then
I also was a little bit ambitious with the price.
I ended up selling it in literally a day.
The person came to my work, and I y'know, plugged it in, tested it for them, showed
them that it worked, so then everything that I had on it had been wiped away, so they just
bought it right then and there.
It was perfect for her because she was a college student, and she was very happy with it.
I'm very happy that it ended up with someone that needed it because she was a college student,
she was looking for a more updated computer, and throughout the whole process, she was
very nice, very friendly, very approachable about the whole thing.
I also sold a GoPro in a day, too.
Literally 12 hours, I had somebody ready to pick it up.
So what is it like BUYING something on Facebook Marketplace?
Well, I have actually bought several items on Facebook Marketplace, and that's kinda
one of the reasons I'm making this video because most of my YouTube setup actually came from
Facebook Marketplace.
If you keep up with the news feed regularly, you can find some pretty dang good deals.
And, y'know, some people have even made a flipping business out of Facebook Marketplace,
which I've considered doing, but yeah.
My microphone, the Rode VideoMic Pro...
This microphone that you are currently listening to, actually came from Facebook Marketplace.
I saw it online, a pawn shop was selling it that was downtown in St. Louis, and they were
selling it for like 100 something dollars.
Like $100 and some change.
And, if you look this up on Amazon, you'll notice that it's not $100.
Like brand new, this thing is like $229.
That's a BIG difference.
I'm gonna put my microphone back.
I actually bought my lighting equipment on there, too.
If you guys wanna see this.
So I've got studio lights.
I've got 3 of these, and that's currently what I use for my lighting equipment.
There are also like 3 backdrops that came with it.
Y'know, lighting is important.
And I bought this stuff for like $79, and on Amazon, brand new, it's like $132.
One of my cameras that I have, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ200... that's a mouthful... it
was bought on there for about $200, and this is like a superzoom camera, I actually suggest
it if you're kinda like a beginner getting into photography, getting into vlogging, because
it DOES do 1080p 60fps, so you're gonna have that buttery smooth footage.
I've taken actually a lot of pictures with that camera, so if you wanna see some, I'll
drop my Instagram down below.
It's just like a photography Instagram, it's very St. Louis themed, so check it out.
My primary YouTube camera that I have now is the Canon G7x Mark II, and that's one that
came from Facebook Marketplace and it was $400.
Came with the box and everything.
I had everything that I needed for this camera.
He has like the original freakin' receipts, the warranty information, everything is in
here.
Like I said, he just bought it, used it a couple of times, and just never ended up using
it after that, so he just wanted to get rid of it.
You'll find that's the case with quite a bit of items.
A lot of people are just getting rid of things simply because they don't need them or have
a use for them anymore.
Which, y'know, leads to good deals for people because a lot of people are often wanting
to come down in price by quite a bit so they can just get rid of it.
But this is $649 brand new.
And, I mean it's in the 500s if you get the international model.
Links to everything I just listed will be in the description below if you're looking
to see, y'know, what it's listed at on Amazon, eBay, whatever the case may be.
So clearly I've had quite a bit of success on Facebook Marketplace, and I mean I just
meet all of these people in public, as you should if you're buying something online.
I've saved a lot of money for a YouTube setup through Facebook Marketplace.
And now, here I am.
I saved like $400, and if you add that up, that's a lot of burritos.
I'm gonna do a more in depth look at my setup in the near future.
I'm gonna do, y'know, a video review of this camera, what I think of it, also of my Lumix
camera, y'know, the Rode VideoMic, I'll review my camera setup, and if I need to do an in
depth video about just my beginner setup for a budget...
I initially started with an extremely low budget YouTube setup, and if you guys wanna
see more about that, I'm more than happy to show you guys very easy tricks so you don't
have to drop serious money on a YouTube setup.
I mean this is actually still pretty tame.
I know some people that have dropped thousands of dollars on YouTube setups, if you're just
looking for something that is very budget friendly, using equipment that you probably
already have, we'll do that in a future video.
Just lemme know in the comments below what you guys think, and also consider hitting
the subscribe button so you don't miss out on content like that.
So that's where we're gonna wrap up for today, so thank you all for watching, and as always
the most important part, have yourself a blessed day.
Now here's what's gonna happen next... over here on top of my TV, my shameless promo space,
I'm gonna put the subscribe button.
And over here, I'm gonna put some more content for you to enjoy.
On top here, I'm gonna put my video series called "Y'all Messed Up," where I just cover
crazy stuff that's happened and talk about how companies or brands or people have messed
up.
So, if you're into that, I'll let you guys decide what you do next, and I'll see you
in the next episode.
