Hello everyone. Thanks for tuning in
again. I have an incredible amount of
both Google Home and Google Assistant
updates, new features and new products to
go through with you this week. Let's get
started. Alright so the very first thing
that I'm going to talk about this week is
Google Home and Google Assistant
integration with the Nest Yale X Lock. Now
you might have expected that to work
long ago, but it hasn't and it just does
on August 29th for users around the
world. So go ahead if you have a Nest
Yale X lock there in your home, go ahead
get that integrated, get it working. Of
course the unlock feature is not going
to work with your Google Assistant. Still,
you can lock the device and what's very
interesting to me is you can include
that in your routines. I think for the
most part people have heard of the Swann
cameras. There is now a set of Swann
cameras out on the market that has
Google Assistant capability. So these are
the newest 4k cameras and the only 4k
cameras actually as far as I'm concerned
with the capability of having Google
Assistant integration. What you'll need
is either a Google Home and a Google
Chromecast or a device with Google
Assistant on it, and again Google
Chromecast. So casting capability to go
ahead and see either a live feed or a
recorded feed if you'd like. Now here is
where I start to talk about Google
Assistant and all of the things it's
being added to, and this is a wild list
this week. Now we all knew that the
Chromebooks were supposed to be
getting Google Assistant capabilities on
many of them. Our recent models we've
seen that come out on some of the very,
the flagship models, that Google has
created, but we haven't seen them kind of
walk back in terms of their deployment
of the Google Assistant. This week what
we're starting to see, is the addition
in Chrome OS of a Google Assistant
launch button. Now it's not out there yet
for all devices still, but we are seeing
movement being made on that, on that
side of progress for Chrome OS. So Google
Assistant being added to more
Chromebooks in the near future. As we all
know, the Google Home and the Google
Assistant we're launched in India this
year and Google has been working hard in
this marketplace. I'm surprised at how
hard and how fast they're going into
this, and getting different language
support. So on that note they now have
the Marathi language support. They're
available for those of you who speak
that language. Now this is part of their
big plan of getting all of these
localized languages and getting those
all up with support on the Google
Assistant and the Google Home device. So
stay tuned for more there, there's more
coming. Like I said the Google Assistant
is ending up everywhere here, and Android
Messages is a service that Google
produced a while ago actually, but
they're now integrating Google Assistant
with that, and it's interesting as you
look at the screenshots that are
starting to come out, this isn't a fully
deployed functionality, but as the
screenshots come out, you can see where
the Google Assistant is essentially
reading your messages, and some people
might have concerns with that, but
reading your messages and providing
options for you to go ahead, use the
Google Assistant, and drive the
conversation in a different way. Another
feature that we've seen being deployed
here is the news feature. We know Google
News got that big update very recently.
One of the things that we talked about
in our last Google Home and Google
Assistant new features, new updates video
is actually the integration of Google
News along with your Google Home. So
users in the United States and some
other countries were able to get the
news directly from their Google Home
device. Now what's happened this week is
Google has started to talk about
basically customizing or giving you
options
for that news. And one of the options
that they're providing is just a good
news service. Now that good news service
you're going to be able to ask for with
a simple keyword or command, which is
just "tell me something good" and it will
start, essentially, what is your news
briefing with only positive stories
within it. So I think this is a really
good thing personally. I'm kind of tired
of reading negative things on the news
or hearing about negative things. I like
to hear the better side of news. Like I
said it's Google Assistant everywhere
and I think this is a little bit
expected with the new Pixel 3. What we're
actually seeing, some of the demos and
some of what's being revealed by Google
right now, is actually showing the Google
Assistant replacing the voice search
capability on the new Pixel 3, and it
looks like that could become a bit of a
retroactive change in new versions of
Android devices. Now again this isn't
ready for a deployment, but we're getting
there on this one. The Google Assistant
and even the Google app. So basically,
your account with Google is getting a
new UI, and this is for the settings page.
And what I'll say is the settings page
has started to become quite large when
we talk about devices like the Google
Home, the Google Assistant, and you know
the other Google Apps. It's starting to
get a little too big, so Google is
working on a redesign that I will say is
more based on functional components of
their different apps and services. I
personally like the look, it feels a
little more personalized, a little more
in tune with what I'm doing with the
Google Home and Google Assistant, and
a number of the Google services that we
talked about, but ultimately it's looking
a lot better to me. We still have to wait
for deployment. So I feel like I've been
talking about Google Assistant for a
while here guys, so I'm going to rip through
some of the new devices we're seeing, a
lot of new devices come because of the
IFA conference going on in
in Germany this year, right away. Now what
we're seeing is from LG. We've seen a
number of product lines. Now we know the
ThinQ TVs have the Google Assistant
on board if you have a 2018 model. The
2017's will not be updated, that's the
statement right now from LG, but if
you're in a number of countries:
Australia, Canada, France, Germany, South
Korea, Spain, and the UK, and you speak
some of those other languages other than
English in those countries, you're going
to get Google Assistant support here
right away on your ThinQ TV. Now on top
of that, we're seeing a device from LG
called the tone headphones. There's
there's a version called Tone Platinum
SE. Those headphones will have Google
Assistant on board, it's a touch button
instead of the wake word to actually
trigger on your Google Assistant. And the
other devices that they're showing at
the conference this year is called the X
Boom series of speakers. Now these are
supposed to be big, loud, strong
speakers, and what has happened is
there's an AI or an X Boom AI device
with the Google Assistant on board as
well. We know Harman Kardon has produced
a smart speaker in the past with Cortana
on board actually, and now they have Alexa
integration, but what they haven't done
is gone out and produced something
specifically with Google until now. The
Citation 500 is a $700 USD speaker that
is being unveiled here with Google
Assistant on board. They have a couple of
different color options, it's a very soft
looking speaker, and that's being
revealed as well here right away.
Bang & Olufsen or B&O, this is a
pretty premier brand they have a BeoSound
set of speakers. There's a BeoSound
one and a BeoSound two. They are
$1,700 and $2,200 USD respectively, and so
there are an incredibly pricey speaker,
but they are now getting Google
Assistant on board. There's basically
four control buttons up on top of these
speakers that give the
opportunity to use Google Assistant
in some different ways.
Finally this week, the JBL Link Bar, this
was a device we heard about a long time
ago, actually back towards Google I/O in
this year. We heard about this device. We
now have a ship date and a pre-order
opportunity from JBL. It has the Google
Assistant on board as well, and it's
around $400 USD here. It'll ship in
October, so you have the opportunity to
go out and get that bar right now. It is
getting some pretty positive reviews, and
I will tell you that in general these
new devices, what I'm seeing especially
from the Lenovo Smart Display that I
just picked up, they are incredible and
they are working very well. These
companies have done very well with the
Google Assistant integration. What
remains to be seen is how our Google
Home app and our ability to cast, and our
ability to use these different services
actually comes out with lots of these
devices. So that's what I'll tell you is
really important to pay attention to
right now, is what are you going to be
able to cast. So there you have it
everyone. Thanks for watching. We'll see
you next time.

Google Chrome Extensions - Build First #Google #Chrome #Extension - Duration: 9:15.
build first google chrome extension
Getting Started Tutorial
First : Create the Manifest
Create a file called manifest.json and include the following code
create a google chrome extension project folder
and create manifest.json file in project root path
Open the project folder in your editor.
copy demo code for manifest.json file and paste in the project manifest.json file.
Open the Extension Management page by navigating to `chrome://extensions`
The Extension Management page can also be opened by clicking on the Chrome menu,
hovering over More Tools then selecting Extensions.
Then, Enable Developer Mode by clicking the toggle switch next to Developer mode.
Now, Click the LOAD UNPACKED button and select the extension directory
Ta-da! The extension has been successfully installed. Icon shows are not being shown because no icon was included in the manifest.
Although the extension has been installed, it has no instruction.
Introduce a background script by creating a file titled background.js.
copy this code and paste in manifest.json file.
Create a background.js file in the project's root path.
We can also change the path of background.js
Again, reload the extension
The background js file in the extension is working.
The extension is now aware that it includes a non-persistent background script
and will scan the registered file for important events it needs to listen for.
This way we can use Chrome's method in the background js file like this
If we use chrome's storage API, we will first need to allow it in the permissions field in the manifest file.
Extensions can have many forms of a user interface, but this one will use a popup.
Create and add a file titled popup.html
update this code
When you click on the extension icon, you have a popup show.
We can manage the height and weight of the popup like this.
set title and icon in the popup
Extensions also display images on the extension management page, the permissions warning, and favicon.
These images are designated in the manifest under icons.
Including an options page gives users more control over the extension's functionality, further customizing their browsing experience.
Start by creating a file in the directory called options.html
Successful show options page
You can open the options page in several ways.
The last step is to add the options logically. Create a file called options.js in the extension directory and include in the options.html file.

The Great Piano Mystery - Duration: 7:58.
this video is sponsored by Brilliant.
hey, welcome to 12tone! in 1964, legendary minimalist composer LaMonte Young embarked
on what would be his most ambitious project ever: a piece called The Well-Tuned Piano.
it's a massive, sprawling composition, over 5 hours long when Young played it live for
the final time in 1987, and requiring weeks of set-up in order to be performed correctly.
more than that, it's largely improvised: Young defined a certain structure for the piece,
drifting through harmonic spaces with names like the Opening Chord, the Magic Chord, and
the Tamiar Dream Chord, each of which might take upwards of half an hour to complete,
but the specifics changed each time as he experimented relentlessly with the soundscape
he had created.
it contains an innovative playing technique that Young described as "clouds", where incredibly
fast notes would slowly build and combine into a towering sense of harmony, but for
a long time, this piece also contained one of the greatest mysteries in all of modern
classical music: the mystery of which notes he was actually playing.
you see, the name The Well-Tuned Piano is probably a reference to a collection of Bach
pieces known as the Well-Tempered Clavier.
Bach wanted to advocate for a new kind of tuning system, so he wrote a bunch of music
to show off what that system could do, and it appears that Young was doing the same thing.
however, unlike Bach, Young is a notoriously secretive composer who kept his new tuning
system to himself for 27 years, and he only released it after composer Kyle Gann sat down
with a tuner, a calculator, and some very well-trained ears and worked out ten of the
twelve notes by hand.
so what was he doing? well, at its heart Young's system is a version of what theorists call
just intonation, which is when the intervals we hear are mathematically pure.
you see, when you hear a note, what you're really hearing is a sound wave with a specific
frequency, and when you hear multiple notes at once, your ear calculates the ratio between
those frequencies in order to determine the interval. for example, if you double the frequency,
you get a note an octave higher.
if you're playing on a normal piano, a lot of those ratios will be pretty messy because
we've prioritized other factors, like being able to easily change keys.
but just intonation systems instead aim to keep those ratios as clean as possible, using
only whole numbers and often trying to stick with small ones.
the version Young uses here is what's called a 7-limit tuning, which means that it's built
of ratios using numbers no larger than 7. because doubling a frequency just moves it
up an octave, all the even numbers are actually just copies of odd ones, so we're really just
working with 3, 5, and 7, which we can then multiply or divide by 2 to keep everything
within a single octave. these are all pretty simple sounds: the 3/2 ratio, for instance,
is the perfect 5th, while 5/4 is the major 3rd. the 7/4 ratio, though, is a bit different:
it's not that difficult in theory, but it has no real equivalent in the tuning system
most of us are used to.
it's kinda like a minor 7th, but it's almost a third of a half-step flat.
we call it the harmonic 7th, and it adds an interesting flavor that's new to most listeners
while still being fairly pure.
anyway, a 7-limit tuning is built by taking these three intervals and stacking them on
top of each other to find the rest of the notes.
or at least, a normal one is, but this is La Monte Young we're talking about, so of
course it can't be that simple.
for whatever reason, he apparently dislikes the sound of the 5/4 ratio, so he leaves it
out entirely, building everything from perfect 5ths and harmonic 7ths. and with that out
of the way, we can finally talk about the actual notes.
when you're building a just intonation system, the first thing you need to do is pick a root.
this is the note all your other frequencies will be tuned against, and for this piece
Young chose Eb, probably as an homage to his time as a saxophone player.
from there, he begins to stack 5ths, getting Bb as a 3/2 ratio and above that F, at 9/8.
above each of those he goes up two harmonic 7ths, giving us these ratios.
now, the note names here are a bit weird because, again, the harmonic 7th doesn't exist in normal
tuning so it's not super clear which note we're supposed to land on, but for now we'll
just use these.
that gives us 9 of our notes, and from there Young just adds a couple more perfect 5ths
to the end, and voila, we've got the tuning for the Well-Tuned Piano.
or at least we've got one of them: like many other aspects of the piece, Young changed
the tuning over the years.
but this is what he used for the 1981 recording that Gann worked from, and I don't believe
he's changed it since, but he hasn't performed it live in over 30 years at this point, so
who knows.
anyway, from here we can start making observations about the tuning, so let's start with the
most obvious question: what's up with G#?
I mean, first of all, the ratio is ridiculous, to the point where it's very unlikely you'd
even recognize it as pure.
but the biggest issue comes when we compare the G# to our G. did you hear that?
they're pretty close, but it turns out the G# is actually lower.
so why?
well, the short answer is that Young doesn't care about the G#. he never actually plays
it in the piece, which is why Gann couldn't properly identify all 12 notes.
that doesn't mean it doesn't matter, though: having a string tuned to that frequency is
important due to a phenomenon called sympathetic resonance.
basically, when you play a note with a specific frequency, strings tuned to a multiple of
that frequency will also start to vibrate a little, adding to the original sound.
so even though he never uses G#, you can still hear it ringing faintly when he plays an A.
this leads to an important observation: Young's notation is largely artificial.
that is, it tells you which keys he plays, but it doesn't tell you much about what sounds
they make.
if the notation goes up a half step, for instance, we could get anything from this (bang) which
is almost a whole step, to this (bang) which, again, is actually moving down.
an interesting product of this is that the notes of the piano tend to cluster.
in standard tuning, everything is evenly spaced, but in the Well-Tuned Piano, we instead wind
up with a couple pockets of notes with large gaps in between.
for instance, E, F, and F# are all within about three quarters of a half-step of each
other, as are A, Bb, and B. we already saw G and G#, and there's a similar cluster at
C and C#, and finally D sits just barely below Eb. this gives us something that resembles
a pentatonic or 5-note scale, kinda like this: (bang) but with a couple different tuning
options for each note.
it's actually a lot like the major pentatonic scale, a classic device in traditional Western
music, but the 3rd and the 6th are each about a quarter-tone sharp, because, again, Young
left out the 5/4 ratio we'd need in order to make them correctly.
this tuning variety leads to a somewhat paradoxical situation: we've got lots of intervals, but
also not that many.
like, standard tuning only has 12 possible intervals per octave, whereas Young's tuning
has 38.
but many of those are largely similar: for instance, Eb to E, Eb to F, and Eb to F# are
all basically whole steps.
in effect, Young has given himself access to lots of different shades of just a few
kinds of intervals.
however, much like we saw with G#, he doesn't use them all evenly: most of the piece centers
around the perfect 5th, the perfect 4th, the harmonic 7th, and then what are called the
septimal 3rds and 6ths. "septimal" is a fancy word for the number 7, because as we mentioned
before, these are constructed with the 7/4 ratio, rather than the 5/4 one you'd normally
use.
the septimal minor 3rd and 6th are a little bit smaller than their standard versions,
while the major 3rd and 6th are wider.
these septimal intervals play a huge role in giving the Well-Tuned Piano its unique
sound, helping tie all the different versions together into one massive sonic experiment.
of course, there's more to it than just tuning: the structure of the piece is also fascinating,
and if there's enough interest I may make another video about it at some point.
but in the words of Kyle Gann, there is "virtually no way to analyze the piece" without understanding
the tuning system on which it's built.
That, more than anything, is the heart of the Well-Tuned Piano.
heck, it's right there in the name.
so yeah, no analysis would be possible without Gann's dedication to solving Young's riddle,
Which brings me to this video's sponsor, Brilliant!

Florida Republican Governor Rick Scott Hiding MILLIONS In Cayman Islands - Duration: 3:45.
Florida Republican Rick Scott, and his wife, Ann Scott, are currently hiding millions of
dollars in the Cayman Islands, where the US IRS can't touch it.
One of the wealthiest Republican politicians in the country, Rick Scott is also, basically,
a tax cheat.
He doesn't like paying for things, here in the United States, so, according to a new
report by the Tampa Bay Times, Scott and his wife are hiding roughly $2.9 million offshore
in the Cayman Islands.
Now, Rick Scott and his wife were quick to defend themselves, saying, "Hold up.
Hold up.
We put our money in a blind trust.
We have no idea where it goes, or any of that, and we always comply with US tax laws."
Well, that's all well and good, but Cayman Islands are outside of US tax laws.
Even if you comply with it, you still aren't paying anything.
It's technically not illegal to move your money over to the Cayman Islands.
It's just quite the scumbag thing to do, especially for a guy whose company, before he even became
Governor, had ripped off the Federal Government for billions of dollars.
You're doing it on a little smaller scale now, though, I see ... just $2.9 million.
Yeah, that's small potatoes compared to the more than one billion your company stole from
the Federal Government.
Rick Scott, our Governor here in the State of Florida, who still has political ambitions,
and basically, does, eventually, want to run for President of the United States ... he
is one of the most corrupt ... not just politicians, but human beings, that we have in the United
States, today.
The fact that he was able to serve eight years as our Governor, in spite of pulling off the
biggest Medicaid ... I believe it was Medicaid, maybe, Medicare ... fraud against the US Government
in history.
That's what his company did.
Biggest fraud against the Government in history, up to that point.
It has, actually, now since been defeated.
He no longer holds that record, unfortunately for him.
This man is absolutely a cancer on the State of Florida.
He has done everything possible to destroy environmental protections, for a state that
is 100% dependent on tourism, most of which is environmental for our beaches.
He's destroyed it.
He's cut the funding.
He's allowed this toxic algae bloom that we have going on all over the state, in the Gulf
of Mexico, in the Atlantic Ocean ... he's partly responsible for that, by cutting environmental
funds, and allowing those overflows to go forward.
The man is disgusting.
What's even worse now, is that he also appears to be a bit of a tax cheat.
Just like so many of the wealthy elite, here in the United States.
Especially bad for Rick Scott right now though, considering the fact that people are keenly
aware of the gap that appears to be growing between the haves and the have nots.
For a guy like Rick Scott to be hiding millions of dollars offshore in the Cayman Islands,
at a time when the 99% are getting screwed over every single day ... probably not going
to bode well for his political future.
If you don't believe me, maybe we would ask Mitt Romney, who, back in 2012, one of his
biggest hurdles to overcome during the campaign, was the fact that he, too, was hiding millions
of dollars in the Cayman Islands, 'cause he didn't want to pat taxes on them.
Seems to be a common theme among millionaire Republicans.

Biscuits & Jam Episode 4: Family Ties | Southern Living - Duration: 18:17.
The last time on "Biscuits and Jam."
(phone ringing) (gentle music)
Hello?
Hi, Dolores.
It's Nellah and Meg Pace. Hi.
It is so good to finally talk
to you after all these emails.
I know!
After years of searching for anyone
who knew Mrs. L. H. Wiggins, it looked
like we had finally found not one
but two people who knew her.
Hi, my name is Joan Steele, and Mrs. Wiggins was my nanny.
When she brought the cake over, she brought the magazine
that had her recipe published in it.
She was so proud of that.
She was just an interesting person,
and she was the typical housemother, no doubt about it.
She took those freshman girls under her wing, including me.
I think you had the critical piece of the puzzle.
We didn't know her name.
We had no idea her name was Eva.
Eva Wiggins.
We had a name.
From "Southern Living," this is "Biscuits and Jam."
We're tracking the origins of the magazine's
most popular and mysterious recipe of all time:
the Hummingbird Cake.
I'm Meg Pace.
And I'm Nellah McGough.
So, we're talking about Mrs. L. H. Wiggins
and the Hummingbird Cake.
She's like an icon around here,
but we didn't know anything about her.
For 40 years, "Southern Living"
only knew the submitter of their most popular recipe
as Mrs. L. H. Wiggins, but we found two people
who knew her by different names.
A lady named Joan Steele knew her by her nickname, Wiggy,
when Mrs. Wiggins nannied her children in 1979.
Another woman, Dolores Griffith,
met Mrs. Wiggins when Dolores was a freshman
at the University of North Carolina, Greensboro.
She knew her as Mrs. Eva Wiggins,
the housemother of Spencer Dormitory.
That was a huge piece of the puzzle.
We now had a name for her.
Okay, so she was the dorm mother, the housemother,
and Dolores would just spend lots of times with Eva,
and she called her Eva,
and Eva
turned her on,
Dolores on to liverwurst and dill pickles.
Miss Wiggins loved liverwurst and dill pickles.
With a first name to work with,
Nellah's investigation kicked into high gear.
You know when you do those Myers-Briggs things?
That's what I should have been.
It says I should have been that.
A private investigator?
Mm-hmm.
Or a detective?
Yep, a detective.
Detective Nellah?
Yep.
So, I, um,
got my sister-in-law, Amanda,
who is a ancestry.com, Mormon Church,
she doesn't belong to the Mormon Church,
but you know, the Mormon Church
has all these databases of ancestry databases.
Oh, I didn't know that. Mm-hmm.
So, Amanda knows all about that,
so I called Amanda and Amanda got on it.
When Mrs. Wiggins sent "Southern Living"
the Hummingbird Cake recipe,
she signed her submission, "Mrs. L. H. Wiggins."
We assume the initials were for her husband's name.
Within an hour, I had, you know,
"L. H." stood for "Lewis Henry."
I had all these pieces of the puzzle coming together.
I found out that she had a daughter,
and then the daughter had two children.
So, long story short, we,
I got in touch
with the son.
This is through lots of research
and ways to go about this kinda thing.
So, I got his phone number and his address,
and I got her daughter's phone number and address,
and so I left him a voicemail, and I was a little nervous.
I was thinking, "They probably think we are crazy,"
and that's how I prefaced the voicemail.
"I know this sounds nuts, but I work
"for 'Southern Living' magazine,
"and we love Mrs. Wiggins, and you know,
"she's an icon around here, and her recipe's
"been our most popular recipe."
I did have his mother's phone number.
This is Miss Wiggins' only child, and she's,
her daughter, and she's 82, now.
I started leaving the same goofy message on Friday,
this past Friday, and all the sudden,
she picks up the phone.
Oh my gosh, I am, like, freaking out.
While you were leaving a message on an answering machine?
Yeah, 'cause she was screening it.
Oh.
She's pretty, you know, sharp for 82 years old.
So, her name is Janet.
Janet Silcox.
So, Mrs. Silcox was screening the call,
and then she picked up the phone.
We had a nice conversation.
After their first conversation,
Nellah arranged for us to call Janet Silcox,
Mrs. Wiggins' daughter, again,
this time, with my recorder rolling.
Oh, gosh.
I hope she answers the phone.
(phone ringing)
If she's (whispers), she's screening,
so I'll start talking and then she'll answer.
If she's there.
Hello.
No one is available to take your call.
Please leave a message after the tone.
(beeps)
Hey, Miss Silcox,
this is Nellah McGough at "Southern Living."
I just had a few more questions that I wanted to--
Hello? Hello?
Hey, Miss Silcox, how're you doing?
Mrs. Wiggins' daughter, Janet,
lives outside Roanoke, Virginia.
She doesn't remember her mother
submitting the Hummingbird Cake recipe,
but she does remember eating it.
Well, um, I really don't remember much about it
except that she did make it, and it was good.
This recipe is "Southern Living"'s
most popular recipe of all time, its most requested.
I mean, how do you feel about that,
to know that her recipe has been
the magazine's greatest one?
Well, I'm surprised, and I did not know that,
but I think it's great, and she would be so proud.
(laughs)
She was
very into cooking.
She liked to try new things and so forth.
She was a good cook.
Just remember being in the kitchen
with her when she was baking a lot,
and it seemed like she was always cooking.
(laughs)
Uh, Miss Silcox, the last time we spoke,
this is Nellah, you said that she loved
to invite people over and loved to cook for them.
Yeah, she did.
Yeah, she was always having family
and friends and so forth over.
I can remember a lot of people,
in fact, I have a few pictures
with everyone around the table,
but she did like to have people over
for dinner and so forth.
Joan Steele, the lady that your mom
nannied for in Roanoke,
she says she made amazing fried chicken.
Do you remember her cooking fried chicken?
Uh, I remember liking her fried chicken, yes,
and that it was quite good,
and I think I picked that up from her.
Janet also picked up her mother's love of music.
Mrs. Wiggins' grandchildren, Janet's children,
shared with us through email memories of their mimi.
I spoke with Brenda, Miss Silcox,
and she said that she remembers Mimi,
which is what they called her, right?
Right, yes, it is.
She remembers Mimi liked to wear rings
on just about every finger, and she would tap,
tap them on the steering wheel to the music in the car.
Yeah, my mother liked the music, yes,
as well as that, I mean, I like music quite well, also,
and I have done the same thing, myself.
Yes, I can remember that.
Uh, what, she also said that she was
a great pianist and organist, loved to play the piano.
Mm-hmm, yes.
Yeah, she played by ear.
She could play that.
Wow.
(laughs)
That's great.
Yeah, she could just go
up and down that keyboard pretty fast.
She could play, oh gosh, I remember her playing
"Alexander's Ragtime Band" one time.
Well, not one time, but that was one
of the things that she played.
Um, and let's see, uh,
it seemed like there was a polka.
I can't remember, but anyhow,
I'd probably remember if I wasn't on the spot, right here.
(laughs)
I can just picture her at the piano
playing that "Alexander Ragtime."
Yeah, I can still see her playing, also.
Aww.
It's actually got me interested in it.
(laughs)
Aww, that's good.
She was a happy, she had a happy personality.
She liked being with people, you know,
and talking with people, and she liked going on trips
and so forth, and she liked being a part of church,
and of just different, you know,
organizations and so forth.
What do you think your mom would say
if she knew how interested "Southern Living" is in her
and how successful her recipe has been?
I think she would be surprised,
but I think she would be proud, too, so,
I think you'd make her really happy.
Mother would be so happy and so proud,
(laughs)
and I think her sister will, too.
Her sister?
We had to talk to her sister.
Today, I'm going to try and call
Eva's baby sister, who is 96 years old.
She will be 97 in August.
Nellah, with the help of her sister-in-law, Amanda,
found Mrs. Wiggins' baby sister, Evelyn Rakes.
I told Amanda that "Southern Living"'s gonna pay
for us to go out to lunch or something.
It is amazing what you can get off of whitepages.com, too.
So with phone number in hand, we gave her a call.
(phone ringing) I call her Evie.
(whispering)
The other one was Eva.
Yeah, see, not answering.
(whispering)
It died and got to an answering machine.
Oh.
Hello?
Hi, Miss Rakes?
Yeah.
Hi, this is Nellah McGough and Meg Pace
with "Southern Living" magazine.
(laughs)
You can hear the excitement in Nellah's voice.
I think Miss Silcox said you were 96 years old?
Is that right?
Yes, yeah.
My gosh!
I think that's what they tell me.
(laughs)
It's so nice to talk to you, Miss Rakes.
I hope it'll be nice to talk to you.
(laughs)
Mrs. Evie is a little sassy,
but agrees to let us record our interview with her.
Well, I know Miss Silcox told you that we
absolutely adore your big sister,
Ms. Eva Wiggins, and we love
that she sent in the Hummingbird Cake recipe.
Yeah, yeah, it was the Hummingbird.
I'd forgotten what it was.
Well, it was a popular recipe, wasn't it?
Yes.
Uh-huh, yeah, it was a popular recipe.
A good cake, too, but she was
always baking a cake or something.
She was always doing that.
Did your mom, did y'all learn to cook from your mother?
Yes, I think we did, because mother was always,
she baked a lot of times,
and so we learned from her,
and Eva was always baking something.
More than the rest of us, I think,
but she was a good cook, very good cook.
Did you ever make the Hummingbird Cake, yourself?
I think I made it one time, but I can't remember when it,
you know, it was a long time ago and all,
but it was a good cake.
It's nice cake, good cake.
Do you know if she ever submitted any other recipes
to another magazine? I don't think she ever did.
No, I don't think she ever did.
No, I don't think so.
I didn't know of any that she did that.
If she did, I didn't know it.
Do you remember her, do you remember when she,
do you remember her talking about submitting this recipe?
Oh, yeah, yes.
I remember about her telling about that
and sending it in and all.
And I'm sure she showed the magazine to y'all.
Oh sure, uh-huh.
I think I have one of that recipes in their magazine, now.
It's put away somewhere.
What do you remember her saying
about having the recipe chosen,
and maybe could you describe her excitement around it
or what you remember from that time?
Uh, well I remember from that time,
I don't know whether I can remember anything or not.
That's been quite a while.
I know.
It's been 40 years.
Yeah, it's been quite a while.
I think I still have that recipe in the magazine,
that was in the magazine.
Did she make the Hummingbird Cake very often?
She made it several times, I know,
but I'm not sure how many
because I wasn't with her all the time.
What else do you remember about Eva?
Anything fun that we--
Well, she always liked to pick at people.
(laughing)
Head up and tell little funny things, you know,
she would always, she threw a fishing worm
in the kitchen window at my other sister one day.
(laughing)
She told her, she said, "Marie," says,
"Raise the window; I've got something for ya,"
and so, Marie did, and when she did,
she threw that fishing worm in the window,
(laughing)
and it made Marie mad.
She didn't like it.
(laughing)
And I don't blame her.
I wouldn't have, either.
She sounds like she was a fun sister.
Well, she was, she was.
She always--
What do you think she would say about all the fuss
we're making over her and her recipe today?
Oh, I don't know what in the world she would say,
and it's hard to tell.
It's hard to tell what she'd say now.
It's been a long, long time ago, though,
you know, that that's happened, and, but, you know,
you know, you just don't know
what's gonna come next, I guess.
After hearing y'all talk about her,
I think she would be pretty tickled about it.
Oh, she would.
Well, she probably would.
Yeah, 'cause she was, you know, a jolly person,
and everybody liked her,
and she loved to bake.
She loved to bake cakes and pies.
After talking to Mrs. Wiggins' friends,
grandkids, daughter, and sister, we felt like we knew her.
It could also be because she's about all Nellah and I
have thought about over the last few months,
but we still had one lingering question.
If "Southern Living" got the Hummingbird Cake
from Mrs. Wiggins, where did she get the recipe?
Was it her own or inspired by a recipe
she found somewhere else?
Next time on "Biscuits and Jam."
Do you know where she found the recipe?
I have no clue.
Have you ever wondered about the origin
of the Hummingbird Cake?
(gentle music)
You know, we did some research into it.
Supposedly, this flavor profile has Jamaican roots.
Yeah.

Here's another helping of Nellah.
That was really good.
You can tell she was a teacher.
I should have been a teacher.
Like, my friends have all, they're retired now,
and I'm thinking, "I could have put up
"with those stinking kids for 30 years."
(laughing) God,
you've gotta be retired by now.
Oh my.

Battle Royale Update (8/31) - Storm Destruction, Vaulting The Revolver and Item Updates - Duration: 2:06.
Hey everyone! Welcome back to another exciting dev update. We're going to dive on in.
STORM DESTRUCTION
So, in 5.40 we have the new concept called "Storm Damage," the basic idea is...
the edge of the storm will do damage to player built structures in the final phases of the game.
Less than 10 percent of our matches are affected by this, or make it that long...
and so we're really trying to tactically adjust the final stages...
to provide a little more dynamic gameplay.
We really look forward to your feedback on this feature, and we're excited to see how it plays out.
REVOLVER VAULTING
In 5.40 we will be vaulting the revolver.
This is part of an initiative to keep the item pool feeling fresh and dynamic.
In the past, you've seen that we've brought back the guided missile...
which was vaulted for a period of time. So an item that was vaulted doesn't necessarily mean...
that it's gone forever.
Using this as an initiative to keep the item pool fresh,
exciting, dynamic, and we'll be targeting future updates, potentially...
season 6 as an opportunity to vault more items.
ITEM UPDATES
In addition, in 5.40 we'll be adding a new mobility item.
So, we look forward to creative expression with that.
We're also going to be updating some various balance parameters such as...
item rarity; Remote Explosives rarity is going to increasing from Rare to Epic,
to match its effectiveness.
And we're also going to be making some changes to item stack sizes in their drop rates.
For example, the Boogie Bomb will now be dropping in a stack size of two.
Whereas it was one, previously.
And one of our bigger changes: shields will be adjusted from a maximum stack size of...
two to a maximum stack size of three.
Alright everyone, thanks for tuning in. From everyone here at Epic, we'll see you next time!
THANKS FOR WATCHING

Model Apache Longbow AH-64D - 1/48 Italeri - Painting - Duration: 20:03.
Hello!
Since the last movie I've masked the canopy and put sponges into the cockpit.
I've also corrected those parts.
This primer for the black basing technique.
Time to paint!
It finally looks clean ;)
I'll make some random spots with those colours.
Time for the base colour. XF-62 Olive Drab.
Highly diluted with this thinner.
Thin layers for slow blending.
Now's the time for post shading.
I'll add some shadows with highly diluted black.
And now some highlights.
Base colour with a drop of white.
And that's the result.
I think black basing combined with post shading looks good.
Even such a simple painting pattern doesn't have to be boring.
In the next episode you'll see decaling and weathering.
Please subscribe to my channel if you haven't done it already.
This way you won't miss the next movie.
Cheers!

Flywheel VS Flex Plate | Monster Transmission - Duration: 2:33.
hi welcome to monster transmission
you're with Curt on you're in Kurt's
corner today we're going to go over
what's the difference between a flex
plate and a flywheel a lot of people
think it's not much different
well there are major differences
flywheels designed for standard
transmissions it's a very thick steel
plate just like this one here
and this is where the pressure plate and
clutch assembly for a standard
transmission will ride and go and the
clutch will ride against this surface so
you have a standard transmission when
you manually shift it you depress the
clutch so you can shift gears when you
release the clutch pedal it actually
will apply the clutch to this plate and
also to the pressure plate so allow the
standard transferring to engage in gear
then automatic is totally different an
automatic does not use a flywheel it
uses what's called a flex plate flex
plate because it does exactly that it
flexes it's designed to actually flex
under loads and torque so it's much
thinner it's only maybe a quarter inch
steel verse over an inch and it's
designed as the engine rotates spinning
at or covert or full of fluid then the
flex plate can flex and allow that mass
to continue spinning because with a
standard you depress the clutch you
disengage the transmission or you put
the transmission in neutral on automatic
it stays in gear but the car is not
moving and that's because the converters
using the stall speed to absorb that
energy yet the engine is still in gear
the transmission is still in gear the
engine is rotating and the converter can
flex that mass that it's spinning so a
flex plate is designed to flex and it's
for all automatics have a flex plate
standard transmissions have a flywheel
so if you need to understand what those
two are that's the basic scenario from
the 1950s on up up to current date fly
wheels are on standard transmissions and
flex plates are you
on automatic transmissions if you have

How To Manifest Money Quickly: Law of Attraction Of Manifesting Money - Duration: 18:07.
Hi, my name is Eric Michael founder of the Power Life System and today I'm
going to be sharing with you eight simple steps you can do to manifest
money into your life. Even more importantly than manifesting money into
your life I'm going to go deeper, so that the money you manifest ultimately
creates your ideal lifestyle. Before I go into the 8 simple steps, let me share a
little bit about myself and my financial money-making background. I started my
first business at the age of 16 and since then I went on, I graduated from
the University of California, San Diego in Computer Engineering and that went on.
I started various different other businesses. I've done that consistently
over a period of time. My initial focus was on the money, manifest more money,
have more money and I was successful at that . Very quickly I had made my
first million. I had achieved a lot of the financial goals the home, the luxury car
and things like that. Then I started having a lot of issues people
coming into my life that ultimately caused a lot of problems losing a lot of
money a lot of stress a lot of headache and a lot of things that I would never
desire for anybody else and so through that process I identified a new focus a
focus on having a greater mission life and creating my ideal lifestyle and
instead of focusing on the money I'm now focused on how can we make a more
positive impact in the world how can we do more things for the the individuals
and the teams and different companies so I've gone from basically focusing some
money to manifesting the money to losing a lot of the money having a lot of the
issues to now focusing on the mission and the passion and making things better
for everyone and yes the businesses are going great
on the financial side and yes I every day my life sells more and more aligning
with what I most desire in terms of where I am what I'm doing who I'm doing
it with the quality of people the quality of the team and being more more
excited and passionate about the missions and the things we're doing so
there's an higher type of fulfillment that goes on
around it so I realize that you may be at this moment you just need an extra
$100 or $200 or a thousand or you want to make your first million or your first
X million whatever it is I've been that I've gone through that process and I'm
gonna be sharing with you some some steps that can help you to basically
have it all have the money have the time have the freedom and the flexibility but
more importantly be part of a mission something that you identify that's
really giving you a passion and firing you up so that Law of Attraction steps
in to to help you make it happen and your your ideal lifestyle has been
created as a result of manifesting the money step number one is you can it
doesn't matter what's happened to you what you've done what you haven't done
your education or a quote lack of education or lack of formal education it
doesn't matter it doesn't matter if you're feeling really upbeat or happy or
if you're serious or if you're more outgoing or if you reserved if you're
scared to get on a video the first video I did was for him compared to not that
good quality and how is shaking it doesn't matter and I'm I've improved a
lot and run a path in a journey in Woollett a month will be even better in
six and year it's the same that's it we're green we're growing you're green
too so you can do it you can have the money you desire you can manifest the
money you can't help other people it doesn't matter maybe you're up to your
your you're up to your your your eyes and credit card debt doesn't matter you
can do it I believe in you I have pinned there I've had some serious financial
issues and I've come through them and what I'm gonna be sharing with you or
things that have worked and they can work and I believe when you apply them
they will work for you the second step is to define how much money the first
number that comes in your head and give it a certain date for example today is
April 28th 2018 so I haven't even say it in this way I
have X amount of money by a certain calendar date for example I have 100
million dollars in the bank by April 28th 2019 second it's about one year to
do that identify it you can write it down if you want or just state it out
loud step number three is identify why ask
the question why do you want in this case that million dollars for example an
individual is asked well why do you want this million dollars and you said well
so that I can buy a big house I said why well so that I have a lot of space why
do you want a lot of space well so I feel good about myself why do you want
to feel good about yourself well because so I can attract this this beautiful
exotic woman into my life and I go okay and he continued saying yeah be and then
we would be able to walk on the beach together holding hands have romantic
dinners on the the porch behind and we'd be so happy we would have our kids and
our family and we look out and see the ocean and feel so peaceful and then we
ask why and when he says well I'd feel loved I feel fulfilled I'd feel complete
in my life okay oh I fantastic so we've identified that the most important
things for you are to feel loved to feel complete to feel got freedom it sounds
like you like to feel the energy of nature and you like to feel connected in
connection are we right so do the same steps for yourself identify which were
the core feelings what are the court relying deep foundational elements that
you want to experience in your life and that your initially your your your
associating right now with this quantity of money and now let's identify what are
you truly desiring to feel as a result of experiences that you would perceive
you'd have with the money step number four is we're going to go even deeper
now we've identified the feelings you most desire to have now we're going to
ask the question is well how would each day be in week and month to maximize
these feelings in your life I'll repeat how each day be week month to maximize
these feelings in your life so we've identified these feelings in this
example right of connection of love of appreciation connection peace equanimity
from the nature and the ocean that this individual desires to experience so now
we can start out ask what would each day be like the ideal day the ideal
lifestyle that would maximize these feelings and he thinks about it and he
says well okay I wake up in the morning and someone would prepare a really
healthy breakfast for myself and my partner and it would be fruit a fresh
omelet with from he's chicken a free-range chickens and fresh exotic
fruits I had some beautiful music on and then we'd eat it out on the the deck
overlooking the ocean and then maybe back with my partner we would go back
and have some fun with the fruit alone and then then we would go and we would
train together and in a beautiful gym overlooking the ocean they'd be good for
a quick ocean swim to enjoy the energy of the water and then it's really
important for us or for me and he says to contribute so he would he would
record some videos read some blog posts to help other people achieve more what
they want in their life and his his specific area passion is helping people
be healthy or lose way be more fit and and he says yeah that
would just make him feel so good and connected and loved and he continues it
says yeah then I'd we get together to watch the sunset with some close friends
who are also really doing something to help other people in their lives and it
would be such an incredible feeling being with them of connection of love
and great ideas coming and then he just made me once a once a week we would go
out at night to a dancing love to hear music and dance together so what he's
done is what you're going to do to is you're gonna identify what kind of what
precise lifestyle would you have every single day and you can include things
that you do maybe weekly or monthly to maximize the feelings that you desire
most in your life the step number five is identify the financial requirement
doing some research keeping the whole world potentially as
an option if you so desire or we're in whatever country live to have to
maximize your ideal lifestyle your ideal days for example there is an individual
he was a nightclub designer in New York and he went he visited then he decided
to live in Tulum Mexico which has some of the most beautiful beaches and build
his own Resort Hotel and I think now he's really enjoying himself they're a
lot more relaxed ideal it living his ideal lifestyle with Emily his
girlfriend or his wife and then another couple they were both very successful
chiropractors and and they're looking each 160 80 hours a week they barely saw
each other he was really overweight and they decided they identified their ideal
lifestyle and they moved to Costa Rica and are living a beautiful I mean
they're so happy there he's lost a lot of weight he looks great a lot younger
and basically they're living their ideal lifestyle or very economically and
obviously at to Tulum too well he built a hotel so obviously there was an
investment there but in close Rico's very little per month so there's
a lot of different options when you open up yourself up to the world or if you
want to open yourself up to your own country that's fine too so do some
research on Google and identify how much money would it really require to have
what for you is your ideal days and then obviously the things you do weekly and
monthly step number six is now we're going to redefine our manifestation
statement based on what we've identified in the research to ultimately give you
truly what you most desire for example in the individual who is has the hotel
in Tulum we would define it saying I have a successful fun enjoyable hotel in
Tulum making other people feel so loved with my having my ideal lifestyle every
single day by a certain date and with a certain income by certain days in other
words we need to find that we have in the present by certain dates and be
detailed about what it is for you that your lifestyle is for the couple who
went to Costa Rica it could be rooted as
we're living our ideal days in Costa Rica with an ongoing income of X
thousand dollars per month by a certain date so now we're this for yourself
based on what it is that into the financial requirement as well as adding
in some detail about what it is you're the money would be creating for you for
your lifestyle step number seven is now we're going to manifest this into your
life before I share the manifestation steps I'm going to say that this has
resulted in millions of dollars of additional income more time more
happiness improved health so treat these as so very valuable these steps I'm
going to be sharing with you now go to a place that is quiet where you can relax
even deeper now maybe in nature on the beach or where you feel really
comfortable and now what you're going to do is you're going to relax first place
your attention on your head your neck and continuing to feed and allow each
part of your body to relax even deeper now feel the relaxation deepening more
and more as a gentle wave continues from your head to your feets and your feet to
your head and now give thanks for everything in your life focusing even
more on a financial area every single cent you've earned everything that you
have your shirt your clothing everything you can think of you thanks for it and
extend that to all the other areas of your life as well to be thankful for
everything regardless of its perceived size now radiate
positive infinite energy to people around you you can start with radiating
positive financial abundance because you're radiating and you're so filled
with positive financial abundance that you can radiate it to other people and
those people find that they're making more money and manifesting the money
that they most desire even faster in their lives as well
continue radiating positive energy to them in all different areas of your life
and your financial spiritual enjoyment health everything and as you do your
energy radiates even more intensely you can visualize it you're radiating a
white light even glowing even brighter and effecting positively more and more
people because the more we give the more we receive now visualize yourself
already experiencing everything that you most desire with a focus and an emphasis
on the financial things that you've defined for yourself
you're living your ideal day you're doing everything from the morning until
the evening that you most desire see yourself you can see yourself in a third
person or you can see through your own eyes you enjoying everything and
everything is going exactly as you most desire now connect with the positive
feelings you have you're living your ideal lifestyle so
you feel happy euphoric joyous and expand to all the other positive
emotions you most feel and others to expand even more and really feel them
and more you feel them now the more your body releases those normal chemicals
like oxytocin which is a feel-good chemical and you experience
more positive nature as well as you're tapping even more into the law of
attraction to manifest what you most desire now we're going to do some quick
affirmations focus on the financial area so repeat after me I manifest into my
life my ideal lifestyle my deal days the easier and easier and more more
naturally by that the date you desired we need to find I have my ideal
lifestyle my ideal days I am earning the amount you've defined by the calendar
dates I help more more people and more and more money comes to me as a result
I'm enjoying more and more of my ideal lifestyle and my financial abundance is
increasing more and more I am a money magnet I am rich I am
successful I'm financially successful and a winner my past is my past and I'm
excited because I've learned from it my present and my future are the best ever
congratulations this like any other skill the more you
do it and the better results you're going to get if you've ever played a
sport for example a basketball I really love my tie well the first day I did it
and I'd look at a video and I compare that to its like six months later or a
year later and the difference is incredible is visibly notable and it's
the same with this in terms of the speed and the acceleration of how fast things
are gonna manifest into your life I recommend you check out my video the
paradox of the law of attraction is it has some really important tips on how to
detach from the results which will accelerate the manifestation even more
and I want to thank you ahead of time for giving the video a thumbs up please
share it email it to a friend or share in facebook or twitter so we can help
other people have more of the lifestyle they want so many people spent the
houses tens the hundreds of thousands of dollars
pursuing certain things that ultimately are not going to bring
them with a most watt so if we can help them identify those things we're going
to make such a positive impact in the world I remember the more you give with
really no expectation of getting something back the more your life is
going to also improve naturally so please share it and subscribe to the
channel so I could share more with you and even
more importantly I thank you ahead of time for leaving a comment below
something you liked about this and that you benefited from as well as what you'd
like me to go into even more detail about so that on the future of videos I
