Youtube daily Oct 25 2018

Former Fox News host and for the moment, current NBC host Megyn Kelly has been having a really

bad week because she doesn't understand what's so racist about people dressing up in Blackface.

Earlier this week, Megyn Kelly did a little roundtable discussion on her NBC morning show

where she talked about the fact that, "I don't get it.

When I was younger people could do this and it wasn't seen as offensive whatsoever."

That's something she actually said.

Like, back in the day, everybody wore Blackface all the time and it was just totally cool

for us to do this.

And everyone's like, "Blackface.

That's cool.

That's not racist at all.

Let's go get a malt."

I don't know.

It turns out, no.

Blackface has always been racist.

In fact, that's why Blackface even exists.

It started back during the Minstrel shows and it was supposed to be an exaggerated racist

version of what African Americans in the United States were actually like.

It is rooted in racism and has always been racist Megyn.

As if that wasn't bad enough, Megyn Kelly coming on saying, "I don't see what the big

deal is."

She then sent an email apology I guess to the country, the world, whoever I don't know.

She sent an email apology because she couldn't be bothered to come and give one in person.

Following this she was immediately dropped by her talent agency.

Megyn Kelly has now lost her representatives.

Her talent agency wants nothing to do with her.

We found out this morning that NBC has decided that she's not going to host her show for

the rest of the week.

They're just going to run some reruns, maybe hoping the whole thing will blow over.

But reports have also come out in the last 24 hours showing that NBC is actually wanting

and they spoke to Megyn Kelly about this, about a week or so ago about winding down

her show.

Bringing it to an end because it's just not working out for anybody.

And now, after the Blackface comments, NBC is reportedly already working on an exit package

for Megyn Kelly to pay her off and get her off the air.

This is exactly what Megyn Kelly needs.

But let's go back to the Blackface comments and her not knowing that this was some kind

of racial thing.

Megyn Kelly has made it a point throughout her on-air career to always take the side

that white people can do no wrong.

I mean she's also going out there and insisted, done multiple segments on the fact that Santa

Claus is white.

And if you depict him as otherwise, then you're doing harm to the white race.

Jesus Christ was also white according to Megyn Kelly, even though that would actually be

impossible given the time frame in which Jesus was said to have lived and the geographic

location in which Jesus lived.

There's no way that can even be possible Megyn.

Megyn Kelly, I saw somebody on Twitter say this, my apologies for stealing it and not

being able to properly attribute it.

So if you were the one who came up with this, please accept full credit.

But you can take the girl out of Fox News, but you can't take the Fox News out of the

girl.

And that's what we saw this week with her comments defending Blackface.

Megyn Kelly is now and always has been a Fox News person at heart.

And no matter what network they put her on, what kind of audience they give her, even

when they try to keep her away from politics, that Fox News side of Megyn Kelly is always

going to shine through.

How Comedian Sheng Wang Learned To Appreciate Silence Onstage | Break Shot | NBC Asian America - Duration: 7:08.

WILL CHOI: Hey, I'm Will Choi and today I am going to be speaking with Sheng Wang.

SHENG WANG: Hey!

WILL: Whoa!

You just came out of nowhere.

I didn't even know you were here yet.

SHENG: Surprise, let's go!

Put some money on it.

[WILL LAUGHS]

[MUSIC]

SHENG: It's a solid.

WILL: That solid though!

SHENG: Solid break.

WILL: When did you realize you were funny?

SHENG: Man, no one ever said I was funny.

[WILL LAUGHS] Even now, I don't think I'm a very funny person.

I just... you know, I'm not quick on my feet, I'm not great at pool... but that's what's

great about stand-up, it's that you can kind of, like, figure out what the punchline, what

the comeback, is.

WILL: Then how did you discover stand-up comedy, or like how did that happen?

SHENG: I got to college and I went to go see this group called Theatre Rice, it had just

formed I think the year before I got there.

This was Berkeley.

It was really, really exciting.

Really exciting.

It was this thrill that carried throughout, like, leading up to the performance and I

was like so pumped and I wanted to promote it and I wanted to... you know, I was all

about it.

I was all about it.

WILL: So you have written for "Fresh Off the Boat."

That was your first big Hollywood job, right?

SHENG: Yes.

Just kinda jumped in there from doing stand-up, after doing stand-up for roughly 12 years

or so?

After 6 years in New York I finally was, like, hitting some strides, getting a rhythm, but

then -- ooh -- and then, um... yeah, man, it just was something I couldn't not do.

WILL: Do you feel like you use two different sides of your brain to do, like...to write

a show versus writing material?

SHENG: It's similar in that there's problem-solving in both.

My stand-up has been more, like, moments as opposed to a narrative.

[WILL: Right.]

So it was a little challenging for me to go into the writer's room because we're talking

mostly about story and then the jokes come after.

The jokes are almost an afterthought.

[WILL: Yeah.]

It was a good experience.

I feel like learned a lot and I think that it has helped me evolve my stand-up now.

[WILL: Yeah.]

WILL: What do you find funny?

What are things that you like about stand-up?

SHENG: I mean, yeah...

Generally, where I draw a lot of my stuff is just personal experience and personal observations.

Originally, it started out just random, very, like, stoner-type of observations.

So lately I feel like it's getting a little more personal connection.

People connect with that a lot more and it's more meaningful because it also makes it a

much more unique piece of material that makes it, you know, that is my own and not transferable

and not "steal-able,"or whatever.

I feel like I'm figuring things out on my own and I'm using stand-up in some ways to,

like, help me.

I'm trying to find happiness, like, separate from success, separate from professional.

WILL and SHENG: Stop.

[LAUGHS]

WILL: Who are people that you looked up to?

SHENG: I mean, comedy-wise, I think, you know, the person who, like, made me even think I

could talk about things I think of was Mitch Hedberg.

Chappelle was already huge.

Maria Bamford was already... you know, I was blown away by all this cool, innovative stuff

that I had never seen before.

I never thought, I never thought my family was particularly funny.

[WILL LAUGHS] I feel like most of the jokes my parents made were very pun-driven, you know?

It's a Chinese thing, it's just...

I don't get that much out of puns.

[WILL: No?]

I mean, every now and then maybe?

But no...

WILL: Has there been a moment where you, like, bombed super hard that was just, like, a really

good teaching moment for you?

SHENG: I mean, I've bombed super hard.

There's panic, there's like fear, and then there's also a bit of, like, "This will be

funny later."

There was this one situation where I was doing a show -- it was the last show, I was the

last comedian, everyone's like crazy drunk.

By the time I was going to get on stage, every table is, like, having their own conversation.

I can't yell over -- I can't get this audience under control, and so I got up there and I

just, like, looked at them.

I just watched them.

They, like, didn't know how to react, you know?

And at first there was, like...

"What the eff is going on here?"

And then it was like... really funny, "this guy is not saying anything!"

It got to a place where everyone cohered and then was just waiting for me to say a word,

and then I said, I don't know, "hello" or something very basic [WILL LAUGHS] and it

just killed.

Suddenly, I had them, you know?

WILL: That seems like a really cool lesson that I feel like a lot of stand-ups might

be afraid of.

Like, to just be silent?

SHENG: Yeah, and not crumble.

WILL: Yeah.

Have you seen a lot of changes -- or, I guess, progress -- for Asian Americans in comedy

or in stand-up comedy?

SHENG: People who aren't that savvy about stand-up or comedy, they'll see an Asian dude

and they have expectations, you know?

They'll want specific stereotypical jokes, some references about your mom's accent or

"you're good at math!" or "you're not good at math!"

Just, most of the comedy I see from Asian Americans are moving past that now and not

worried about satisfying that expectation, you know, from an audience.

SHENG and WILL: Yay!

WILL: Is there any piece of advice that you got that has stuck with you?

SHENG: Well first of all, you just gotta work at it.

You just gotta write as much as you can, get on the stage as much as you can.

But it's also important -- this is what I'm learning, or this is what I'm trying to figure

out now -- it's, like, to find you, yourself, to find your true self and to find your happiness

and joy outside of that work, outside of that craft.

The work can help, but ultimately you've gotta figure out how to live life

just simply through life.

WILL: Mmhm.

SHENG: [LAUGHS]

I've been hanging out with babies a lot.

Babies are so interesting, you know?

Everything is new to them, you know?

They're just trippin' balls with just basic reality.

They have no ego.

They have great posture.

And I'm trying to learn all those things.

WILL: Trying to learn from the purest of the best.

SHENG: Yeah, before they get sucked into this crazy rat race.

[LAUGHS]

Top 30 Sega Mega Drive Genesis Games Ever Made (Part 1) - St1ka's Retro Corner - Duration: 20:49.

The Sega Mega Drive was launched in Japan on October 29 2018.

This means that this month, we celebrate the console's 30th anniversary.

I can think of no better way of celebrating this momentous occasion than counting down

my personal top 30 favorite Sega Genesis or Mega Drive games.

One for each year the console has been out.

Before we begin, here are a few simple rules.

Only one game per main franchise.

This means that if I name Sonic 2, you won't be seeing Sonic 1 or 3 on the list, but you

could see Sonic Spinball as the game is a spin-off and completely different from the

mainline Sonic titles.

The second point is that, I'm going to be focusing on games that were exclusive at the

time for the Megadrive or where the Sega port is the definitive version.

Finally, most of the footage here will be take from other youtubers as I don't physically

own most of these games sadly.

I'll be sure to give credit to everyone.

So without further ado, here we go: Number 30 – Shining in the Darkness

Shining in the Darkness is the lesser known predecessor of the Shining Force series.

Created by the same team on a skeleton budget, this is a first-person RPG not unlike my beloved

Wizardy Series.

The game has random combat and it's incredibly easy to get lost, so I'd recommend getting

some graph paper and draw a map as you play the game.

Any game that requires the player to draw maps or keep a handy physical journal on the

side will always have a soft spot for me as I love the extra layer of immersion it brings.

And then you have the awesome Saturday morning cartoon art style the Shining series was so

famous for back in the day.

Not an RPG for everyone, but for those of us who grew on the more hardcore dungeon crawlers,

you'll definitely get a kick out of this one.

Number 29 – Herzog Zwei Part overheard shooter, part RTS this game

uses was created by the same team behind the awesome Thunderforce series and even uses

the same engine as Thunderforce 2.

It also went on to inspire Dune 2 which is the game responsible for creating the RTS

genre as we know it.

In Herzog Zwei, your objective to destroy the enemy base while protecting your own.

You'll be creating units and transporting them to key locations where they'll attack

the enemy base or take over smaller bases which give you resources.

The game is fun against the computer but it's even better against a friend.

There's also a freeware spiritual sequel called Air Mech which I highly recommend.

It's great fun!

Number 28 – Jewel Master Jewel Master is not a good looking game, the

graphics are kind of basic in fact.

But man, I love the concept, execution and level design here.

This is an action platformer where you start out with a ring that gives you a fairly basic

attack.

But as you progress through the game, you'll acquire more rings which give you new attacks

and abilities.

The cool thing here is that you can mix and match different rings for different effects.

So for example, you can use the fireball ring to throw a fireball or you can mix the wave

and fireball rings to create a wave of fireballs.

Discovering all the possible combinations and figuring out the best time to use them

is what makes this game so great.

Oh and the music ain't bad either Number 27 – Batman

Created by Sunsoft, the same studio behind Batman for the NES, this game is much closer

in visual and style to the Tim Burton movie and it's also a bit easier if you ask me.

Abilities like the wall jumping the guns are gone, but now you have a grappling hook, double

jump and there are even a few shooter levels.

The game also has an amazing soundtrack and is overall a very fun game to play.

Number 26 – Light Crusader I have a confession to make, I am generally

not a Treasure fan, their games often don't click with me.

This is an isometric RPG with a focus on Puzzle and platforming.

In fact, that's where most of the game's fun come from, figuring out the solution to

a puzzle in order to proceed to the next room or further explore the dungeon you're in.

It also has a neat magic system that works a lot like Jewel Master, in which you can

mix different types of magic for different effects.

Number 25 – Warsong You might know this series better as Langrisser.

Langrisser is a tactical JRPG series in the veign of Shining Force of Fire Emblem, which

sadly, with the exception of this one game, never launched outside Japan.

What I like about this game is that battles aren't just individual duels, instead, you

see both armies clash as soldier die out.

The game also features a ton of in-battle dialog, great music and is extremely difficult.

Most people can't even get past the first mission without a few attempts and trust me,

it doesn't get any easier from there on.

If you're into brutally difficult tactical RPGs, you should definitely look into this

one.

Number 24 – Golden Axe I gotta be honest here, I have no idea if

I'm being blinded by nostalgia on this one.

I can think of any number of beat'em ups that are technically better than Golden Axe

and the Mega Drive or Genesis version is a few steps down from the arcade version.

But I…

LOVE this game.

I used to play Ms-Dos version of Golden Axe all the time which in of itself was a downgraded

port of the Mega Drive version… or upgraded, depending on your preference.

The game is short, there's little to differentiate between all characters, there's never too

many enemies on-screen and the enemy AI is predictable.

But I just love this game, something about the art-style, music, hit detection and combat

is just so satisfying.

I'll never get tired of that distorted scream.

God I love this game!

Number 23 – Wings of Wor Wings of Wor is a SHMUP by the studio behind

the Cho Aniki games.

In my opinion the art style is the game's strong point as you'll fight bizarre looking

enemies, witness some really cool backgrounds and screen filling bosses which look great.

The action is fast and frantic and has an interesting power-up system in which you can

use one power-up while storing a different one in reserve.

The power-up can also level up if you catch two or three copies of the same icon in a

row without picking up an icon for a different power-up.

If you want to know more about my thoughts on this game, be sure to check out my review

on it.

Number 22 – Elemental Master Elemental Master is yet another game by the

same studio behind the Thunderforce games.

In this vertical shmup you can choose which level you want to tackle first and when you

beat it, you gain a power-up allusive to the stage you just won.

So I guess you could say it has a bit of megaman in it.

What really makes this game amazing is the level design and enemy placement.

You often feel like you're raining some serious destruction, but make no mistake,

this game is brutally difficult.

Number 21 – Story of Thor / Beyond Oasis Story of Thor is an action-adventure developed

by Ancient, the same studio behind Streets of Rage 2.

People often call this a Legend of Zelda clone for the Mega Drive and while I see the similarities,

I think this has its own distinct gameplay and personality.

For one thing, it's clearly more combat-focused than Nintendo's game.

The cool thing here is that as you clear different dungeons, you'll gain access to elemental

genies which can fight with you or help clear puzzles.

Their powers will also have different effects depending on which piece of the environment

they're used on.

Oh and I love the art style for the cutscenes and the game itself.

Number 20 – Panorama Cotton This Japan exclusive Megadrive title is Space

Harrier on steroids.

Graphically, it's the most impressive Mega Drive game I've ever played featuring a

ton of sprite scaling and 2.5D effects that you'd be forgiven if you thought they weren't

possible on the console.

The action is super fast and super fun, with tons of power-ups that you can pick up, something

which I always thought was sorely missing from Space Harrier and Cotton even gains EXP

as she kills enemies.

And the music is also really good and fitting.

Sadly, the game is also really, really expensive.

If huh.. somebody wants to donate this game, I'd be really happy.

Number 19 – Rocket Knight Adventures Oh yeah, now we're talkin'!

This game was released just as Konami started to take the Megadrive seriously and by God

is this game glorious.

You play as a possum wielding a sword and a jetpack.

You can use the Jetpack to attack, zoom forward, jumping really high, ricochet off walls and

the cartoony physics feel so good.

What I love about this game is that even though the Jetpack has a variety of uses, the game

never stops to tell any of them, instead, you learn their uses through level design

as you're slowly faced with a problem and the player quickly deduces the best way to

get around it.

It's this sort of level design that I love about Rocket Knight Adventures.

Then you have shmup levels and even a giant robot level.

This game is just full of ideas and charm.

Oh and you gotta love the art style, music and even the tiny little graphical effects

that are easy to miss now, but were pretty uncommon for the day like how you can see

your own reflection in the water.

This game is just all around great.

Number 18 – Comix Zone Comix Zone is a beat'em up by Sega which

takes place inside a comic book.

Characters have speech bubbles, you walk from panel to panel, you can rip and tear the pages,

the pages can catch on fire.

Enemies are drawn into the comic book itself.

Stylistically, this is all great stuff.

I do feel a lot of people don't really get the combat in Comix Zone though.

You only have one attack button, but you're supposed to rotate the directional button

to throw high punches, high kicks, low punches and low kicks.

As you very your attacks, the enemy can't block all of them.

You also pick up items which you store in an inventory which you can heal you or unleash

death and destruction on your enemies.

You also have multiple paths and even some light puzzle solving.

All in wrapped in a grungy sountrack.

So good.

Number 17 – Comix Zone Comix Zone is a beat'em up by Sega which

takes place inside a comic book.

So good.

Number 16 – Soleil or Crusader of Centy Soleil or Crusader of Centy depending on your

region is another game that is often compared to the Legend of Zelda, though just like Story

of Thor, this one also has its own personality.

In this came, you play as Corona, who during the first portion of the game, loses his ability

to speak to humans and instead gains the ability to talks to animals.

You then use this ability to recruit up to 16 animals to join you, each with different

abilities that will help you progress through the game.

You can bring two animals with you at anytime which you can mix and match for any situation.

In time, you regain the ability to speak to humans and even learn a few new skills yourself.

Also, I really love the art style and colors in this one.

It's just such a pretty game to look at.

I should point out though that if you live in the US, this game is crazy expensive.

IT's a bit cheaper in Europe though.

And there you have it, part 1 of my personal top 30 Sega Genesis or Megadrive games.

Now, please remember that this is my personal list and it's likely very different from

yours.

Part 2 will be launching next week and in the meantime, I'd love to hear what are

you favorite Megadrive or Genesis games of all time.

Hey everyone, thank you for watching St1ka's Retro Corner.

If you enjoyed the video, be sure to like, comment, subscribe and share this video, all

that fun social media stuff.

I also want give a special shoutout to everyone backing my recently launched patreon.

So a big thank you to Matt from Big Evil Corporation who is also the developer behind Tanglewood

for the MegaDrive I might add.

Dave Oberlin, JBMaru, MrGreenFox, Stuart, Mark Petocz, god I hope I pronounced that

correctly and Necrid.

Anyway, I hope you all have a great day.

Bye!

Why Motley Fool Stock Advisor Beats the Market - Duration: 5:45.

David Gardner: Conclusion No. 5: Reads simply "self-directed investing though Stock Advisor

should beat, maybe crush, your funds." Now that's not going to be as fun to talk about.

I'm not going to be relating Bezos or Sulzberger stories now.

I'm just going to tell you really great news, I think.

Having observed how Stock Advisor works and thinking about the math of all of this,

there are a couple of key points I really want to make here.

Why does Stock Advisor really beat up on funds? I have two things to tell you, here.

The first is think about the cost of a service like Motley Fool Stock Advisor vs. what you

pay even for your cheap index funds.

So let's just pretend that you've done well and you have a six-figure portfolio.

I'm not even going to say seven or eight figures, though I know some of our listeners do, indeed,

have portfolios like that.

If you think about the cost of Motley Fool Stock Advisor, which ranges depending on when

you buy it from us and how long you've been us, somewhere between $100 and $200, but we'll

just say $200 for the sake of a good example,.

So you've been paying how much to Motley Fool Stock Advisor over the last 16 years?

The answer is [and you've actually paid less than this], but the answer is 16 x $200. That's $3,200.

It really hasn't gone up. In fact, it's stayed the same for the most part over those 16 years.

So Point No. 1 here, of Conclusion No. 5 [if you're outlining along with me, that's where we are] is cost.

Now compare that to your index fund.

Now a lot of people have index funds from firms like Vanguard and if you'd started

16 years ago or so, I'm just going to round, here, without being too hardcore.

But typically you'd be paying about 0.25% in terms of your annual fee.

These days they've actually come down, some, and I certainly laud that, especially because

index funds will never beat the market.

You're always just going to do what the market does minus costs, so it's good to see them

have lower costs. That's a good thing.

But, you know, 0.25% on a $100,000 portfolio 16 years ago was [do the math with me] $250.

You were paying $250 a year and as your portfolio grew from $100,000 [let's hope it's doubled,

at least over these last 16 years], that means if you have a $200,000 portfolio at 0.25%

these days you're paying $500.

In fact, you keep paying more to your mutual funds, and I'm giving you a fairly rock-bottom

example of an index fund that's very cheap.

Many people are paying 1% each year to have their money managed for them by a wealth manager

or a set of mutual funds. That amount constantly goes up over time.

That is such a strong and direct contrast with the people who were brave enough to join

Motley Fool Stock Advisor 16, 10, six years ago or six months ago who are paying out of

pocket but paying a flat fee.

And as your portfolio has grown along with us, your costs have dramatically come down

and they've never been high to start with.

So Reason No. 1 that self-directed investing through Stock Advisor should beat, maybe crush

your funds is flat out the costs and the two different cost models and I hope you can see that.

And by the way, I have no gripe with a lot of mutual fund fees.

We have some mutual funds at The Motley Fool. Some of you love them and if so, God bless you!

I hope we're doing well by you.

And in fact, we're always looking at our funds saying, "After fees did we help you beat the market?"

I'm really happy to say we have some real examples of that for our fundholders.

So everybody makes their own decisions in terms of how they want to be invested,

but whatever the fund is that you're looking at, I think it's fine for them to take a percent,

whatever it is, a small percentage of your money each year.

Just realize that that's constantly increasing if your portfolio is going up over time. So, wow!

What a difference in the costs of these two services when you look at Stock Advisor vs.

mutual funds, but here's the even better news, and that is we've been winning.

We've been beating the market averages.

We're way ahead, as I talked about in Conclusion No. 1 earlier of the stock market's performance.

And so you are really winning.

And one of the things I learned from Peter Lynch is that you and I, as self-directed

individual investors, have a lot of advantages over the fund managers.

One of them is we can let our winners win in a way that most mutual funds never can.

So if you have a stock that goes up 10-50x in value over 10 or 15 years, you can hold

onto that and let that grow and become a bigger percentage of your assets than any mutual

fund would ever let happen.

So mutual funds are constantly having to sell off their biggest winners in order to keep

the percentage influence of that one stock over the overall fund down in a way that investors

who really know their stuff and buy Amazon, or Netflix, or Booking, or Disney

[all of these great companies] don't have to.

So just realize [I'm tapping a little bit back into our recent mailbag which we entitled,

"Winners Win,"] winners win. What do they do?

Winners win, and you've been winning with this service both because of its much better

cost structure, but also because you are self-directed and you can make smarter decisions about your

portfolio of stocks than fund managers who have their hands tied, in some cases, by regulations

could ever do for you when they invest for you.

So yes, Point No. 5, and then we're going to get to my very favorite point right now,

was self-directed investing through Stock Advisor should beat, maybe crush your funds.

David Gardner - Stock Market Reflections - Duration: 7:04.

David Gardner: Conclusion No. 1: And this is a fun one because we're going to talk about performance,

which does seem to matter a lot.

I hope it matters to you as an investor and maybe as a Motley Fool Stock Advisor member

or a prospective, future Motley Fool Stock Advisor member.

Conclusion No. 1 is that "we've done really well and you have, too."

And using that phrase reminds me [that] when we first published The Motley Fool Investment Guide,

our first book, we wrote it in the summer, the hot summer of 1995,

and Simon & Schuster published it at the start of 1996. We did our first book tour then.

And we were going to call it "The Motley Fool Investment Guide," and we were all deciding,

"Well, what's the subtitle for this book?"

And we went with: "How the Fools Beat Wall Street's Wise Men - and How You Can Too."

And that phrase is the spirit of this podcast.

The reason that I've sat in front of a mic, now, every week, consecutively, for more than

three years is to show you how you can, too.

So Conclusion No. 1 is that we've done really well, and you have, too. So let's look over the numbers.

First I want to start with my brother Tom's performance, because what he has done is truly remarkable.

So over the course of 200 monthly stock picks [so that's 16 and a half plus years of annualized returns],

the S&P 500 is up 7.5% annualized over that 16 and two thirds year time frame. 7,5%.

And Tom's monthly stock picks are up 15.3%, which means that Tom has outperformed for

Stock Advisor members... for you! ... he's outperformed by 7.8% a year over more than 16 years.

And while I, as a fellow podcast listener, rarely use this, maybe it's time to hit that

rewind 15-second button a couple of times on your podcast interface because what I just

said is truly remarkable and worthy of great celebration.

I'm going to explain a little bit more later on in our conclusions some of the handicaps

that he and I have faced as stock pickers in doing what we do.

So in a world where many people continue to believe that it would just be luck if you

beat the stock market's average, Tom more than doubling up the stock market's percentage

return since 2002 stands as great testament to the fact [and I think it's a fact] that that is patently untrue.

Not only untrue but sad when you think about it.

That so many people today believe that you couldn't do better than average.

We believe the opposite in almost every other aspect of life.

We believe that you can be better than average if you put in an effort.

Whether it's toward your career if you're a doctor or a basketball player professionally,

I think you can be better than average. And that's also true of our hobbies and our pursuits.

I'm a big board gamer.

I think if I were a better board gamer I would win more than half my games, but I do play

with other people who do beat me more than half the time, so I know they're quite good.

But whether you're painting, or you're an extremely fit person who enjoys endurance

cycling, I think you can do better through effort and be better than average, but for

some reason we live in a benighted world where many people believe it just would not be possible

to do what I just told you my brother Tom has done.

And I'm really happy to say that right alongside each of his monthly stock picks, I've been

making my own, and my performance against that same 7.5% for the S&P 500 has been 20.7% annualized.

So I'm up 13.2% per year over more than 16 years just doing that Stock Advisor -- that

Fool thang -- that we've been bringing to you for lo these many years.

Before I get to Conclusion No. 2, I want to briefly say two things.

One is that Tom and I, while we're certainly brothers and we're certainly competitors

[we set up Stock Advisor as a competition between the brothers, and some people still enjoy

that aspect of the service today], it's not a big emphasis of ours.

But I would never want that to mask the great performance that we've both had, which I think

says really interesting things to people because we take slightly different approaches.

I think we're more alike than different, but one of our really key points is that Tom invests

differently from Dave and look how they're both beating the market. So that's quick Point No. 1.

And then quick Point No. 2 -- a brief story.

I had the pleasure of being at The Greenbrier, which is a beautiful resort in West Virginia, about a month ago.

And the weekend I was going with friends to stay at a cottage, I didn't know that there

were two professional tennis stars that were right there at The Greenbrier playing in a small intimate setting.

It was a small stadium domed at The Greenbrier, but kind of like a high school gym, and the

two professional tennis players who were playing each other were Venus and Serena Williams.

And so a lot of people showed up to see them play, I included.

And I was thinking, "Isn't it great to see siblings play with each other?

Compete with each other, but both be outstanding?" Venus and Serena.

I couldn't even tell you who's outperformed the other. I'm not a big tennis buff.

I am more of a football fan and I think about Peyton Manning and Eli Manning.

I don't exactly know which of those quarterbacks or which of those tennis players, depending

on how we're scoring them, has done better, but I don't think that's really the main point, is it?

It's that it's a pretty special dynamic when we can see competitors, who are siblings,

perform out there in public in front of the world, whether it's in investing or tennis or football.

And so it's been a delight playing and investing with my brother Tom right in front of you for,

as I've said, lo these many years.

And while we're counting Stock Advisor performance back to its start in March of 2002,

a lot of you were still with us before then when for nine years I ran a public real money portfolio

on AOL and then the web [the Rule Breaker portfolio], which had a 20.3% annualized return

over those nine years. So it's not just about Stock Advisor, either. It's a 25-year story.

But really we're focused, this week, on Motley Fool Stock Advisor and that's Conclusion No. 1.

We have done really well and you have, too.

And a footnote, there, is you may have just started with us a year or two ago in Stock Advisor.

I think you've done really well. It's been a tremendous couple of years.

Or maybe you started 10 years ago or maybe some you started 16 and two thirds years ago.

In fact, looking over our rolls, I believe we have something like 400 present-day members

of Motley Fool Stock Advisor who have been with us from the outset.

It was a much smaller company back then and a smaller service back then, but it's a delight

to think that a lot of you can measure your relationship with us through years and years,

and I think we have done really well. I sure do hope, and believe, you have, too.

316099500 - Replacing Your Frigidaire Oven's Guide Pin AP2125514 PS438608 - Duration: 4:21.

hi my name is Bill and today I want to be showing you how to replace the guide

pin in your stove the reason why you might have to do this is because the pin

is broken or damaged causing the top of your stove not to be secure for this

repair we'll be using a Phillips head screwdriver and a pair of channellocks

warning before doing any repairs please disconnect your power source so this is

the we're going to be using for this demonstration

it's a Frigidaire and keep in mind ours might look a little bit different than

what you got at home but the same technique should still

apply make sure you turn your gas off so the first thing I'm going to do is open

up our oven door and we have four screws that we need to undo all right up

underneath the frame here

and now that we've got it unscrewed what we're going to do is pull back slightly

on this bottom panel so that we can get the metal tabs over the ledge that

they're in front of that they were screwed onto and then we'll lift this up

and so now we're just going to put this piece of wood inside here and prop it up

on the stove top there so that doesn't fall down on us while we're taking

things apart so on our stove we've got to guide pins we've got one on either

side there and in order to remove the old one you're gonna need to fit use a

pair of pliers or in our case channel locks and you can just grab onto it and

just twist it just like you would with a screw however since this is a guide pin

it doesn't have the standard pieces that you can use to remove a screw so that's

why we're using the channel locks once you've got it loosened though you can

start turning it by hand get it out the rest of the way now you can grab your

new OEM replacement guide pin and if you don't have one already you can find it

on our online store so to put our guide pin in you're just gonna line up the

screw hole and you're gonna screw it in by hand as much as you can and once

you've got hand tighten as much as you can just go ahead and give it one last

turn the channel locks to make sure that's as tight as you can get it there

we go now you'll take your wood out and we'll

gently set the stove top down because all those burners are made of ceramic

and they're a little bit fragile if you drop it down like that and now we just

have to line up the guide screws with the holes in our stove top

now we can screw the trim back into place and now you can close your oven

door and your repair is complete now we can turn our gas back on finally don't

forget to plug in your appliance if you need to replace any parts for your

appliances you can find an OEM replacement part on our website pcappliancerepair.com

316010206 - Replacing Your Frigidaire Oven's Small Element AP2123826 PS436591 - Duration: 6:59.

hi my name is Bill and today I'm going to be showing you how to replace a small

element on your stove the reason why you might have to do this is because the

element is no longer functioning for this repair we'll be using a Phillips

head screwdriver a quarter inch nut driver a pair of needle nose pliers and

a flat head screwdriver warning before doing any repairs please disconnect your

power source so this is the oven we're going to be using for this demonstration

it's a Frigidaire and keep in mind ours might look a little bit different than

what you've got at home but the same technique should still apply make sure

you turn your gas off so the first thing I'm going to do is open up our oven door

and we have four screws that we need to undo all right up underneath the frame

here

and now that we've got it unscrewed what we're going to do is pull back slightly

on this bottom panel so that we can get the metal tabs over the ledge that

they're in front of that they were screwed onto and it'll lift this up and

so now we're just going to put this piece of wood inside here and prop it up

on the stove top there so that doesn't fall down on us while we're taking

things apart so on the bottom here on either side are small burners we'll be

replacing this one on this side so in order to get this off what we're gonna

do is we're gonna first unplug all the wires here and what you'll do is take a

picture of it if you need to remember which order the wires go in and if some

of the wires are giving you a hard time you can also use a flathead screwdriver

in order to pry them up

and now we're going to take out the two screws on either side of these brackets

and just keep in mind as you're undoing these screws you're also going to want

to hold on to the bracket because with the burners weight on there this will

fall down alright so now the next thing you're gonna do is just make note of

where the tab is sticking out on these holes and you can either mark it with a

pen or a marker or something or just take a picture of it just so you know

where they go back when you're putting it back together and then you're going

to want to use a pair of needle nose pliers just to squeeze in the tab and

get that through the hole there so the next thing we're going to do we're gonna

have to remove these brackets as well and you're just going to want to keep

track of where they were we've got one on the 45 there and then depending on

how you look at it that's either 6 or 9 you can also again just mark down where

they are on your old one so you don't forget and then that way it'll be easier

when you have to put them on the new one

you're also going to want to push out the tabs again because those are going

to need to lock into place on that bracket so I'm just going to use a

flathead screwdriver and I want to push those back out now you can grab your new

OEM replacement element and if you don't have one already you can find it on our

online store and now we're going to put our brackets into place and just going

to find the number that the old one will screw it into and screw it into that

number as well and now we're going to put this back on through our bracket

here and you're also going to want to make sure that your electrodes are on

the proper side and now we can screw the bracket back into place we're just going

to line it up and make sure you've got the screw hole on both sides showing and

then you can screw it down and now we can plug all of our wires back in

now you'll take your wood out and we'll gently set the stovetop down because all

those burners are made of ceramic and they're a little bit fragile if you drop

it down like that and now we just have to line up the guide screws with the

holes in our stove top now we can screw the trim back into place and now you can

close your oven door and your repair is complete now we can turn our gas back on

finally don't forget to plug in your appliance if you need to replace any

parts for your appliances you can find an OEM replacement part on our website

316049707 - Replacing Your Frigidaire Oven's Dual Surface Burner Element AP2592274 PS437629 - Duration: 6:22.

hi my name is Bill and today I'm going to be showing you how to replace the dual

surface burner element on your stove the reason why I might have to do this is

because the element is no longer functioning for this repair we'll be

using a Philips head screwdriver a quarter inch nut driver a pair of needle

nose pliers and a flat head screwdriver warning before doing any repairs please

disconnect your power source so this is the oven we're going to be using for

so now we're just going to put this piece of wood inside here and prop it up

on the stove top there so that doesn't fall down on us while we're taking

things apart so this burner right here is our dual surface element burner in

order to get it out we're going to unplug everything first and you might

also want to just take a picture where the wires are so you can remember where

to put them when you put it back together so now I'm going to undo all

the wires first and I just need a flathead screwdriver to pop them up

because it's such an awkward angle can't really get my hands in there and now

we're gonna have to take off the two screws that are holding this bracket on

on both sides and I'm going to use a quarter inch nut driver in order to get

those off you're also going to want to hold this bracket up while you undo the

screws because as you undo them you can see getting loose and you don't want to

drop either of your elements down there

and now I'm gonna use a pair of needle nose pliers and I'm gonna squeeze in on

this tab and then that should let me push the element out

you're also going to want to make note of where these tabs are in this case

ours are at the 45 and the 9 so we're gonna have to remove those to put those

on the new one now you can grab your new OEM replacement element and if you don't

have one already you can find it on our online store so now we can put these

clips back into place and you're gonna line it up to where it was on the old

one screw it down now I'm going to use a flathead screwdriver just to pull these

tabs back out slightly so they lock into place real well when I put this back in

and now we're going to put our burner into place and you'll see multiple holes

here so again if you didn't take a picture of it earlier this is another

thing you just want to make note of is where these tabs go into place in our

case we had it in our hole next to the 5l and out here but you can use a

sharpie or a pen or something as well to mark that if you need to and now I'll

just put the lawyers back into place and again refer to the picture if you're not

sure which position the wire is go into

now you'll take your wood out and we'll gently set the stovetop down because all

those burners are made of ceramic and they're a little bit fragile if you drop

it down like that and now we just have to line up the guide screws with the

holes in our stove top now we can screw the trim back into place and now you can

close your oven door and your repair is complete now we can turn our gas back on

finally don't forget to plug in your appliance if you need to replace any
