Gimp: Cut Out a Furry Object or Short Hair - Duration: 10:07.

The technique in this tutorial can be used to select a furry object or short hair.

If you want to follow along, you can find the download links

for the images in the video description.

Go to file, click open and open the photo of the two cats.

Click on the zoom icon in the top right corner of the window

to maximize the image in the window.

Now we right click on the layer and click add alpha channel.

Press Ctrl+Shift+D to make a duplicate of the layer.

We will use this duplicate as a reference.

Now we press Ctrl+Shift+N to make a new layer.

Name it white background and make the layer fill type white.

Then click okay.

Hit the little green downwards pointing arrow at the bottom of the layers panel to lower

this new layer one place in the layers stack.

Activate the top layer.

Go to the toolbox and activate the free select tool.

We are going to make a selection of our subject but we make sure that we stay a little bit

within the boundary of the hair.

Zoom in by holding the Ctrl key down and simultaneously rolling the mouse wheel.

Click the first point.

Click the second point so we get a straight line.

Then we click the next point and while holding the mouse button down, we can draw a line.

Let go once in a while to make new points.

When we hold down the space bar, the cursor changes into the move tool.

We can now, by moving the mouse without clicking, move the image.

When we let go of the mouse, we have the free select tool again and we can continue selecting.

With the backspace key we can undo one or more previous made points.

Then we can just continue with our selection.

For the sake of the tutorial we will go fast forward.

When we are back at the starting point, we hover over the last point and when it turns

yellow, we click and our selection is closed.

Go to view, click zoom and then fit image in window.

Go to select and hit invert.

Then we go to edit and here we click clear so our background is deleted.

Back to select and now click on none.

In the toolbox we activate the smudge tool.

We choose brush bristles 02 and leave the size on the default 20.

Zoom in again and here we start smudging the outline of the hair like shown in the video.

Try to follow the flow of the hair.

We can also jitter while holding the mouse button down.

When we make the white background temporarily invisible,

we can see if we are still on the right track.

We can make the rate higher to make longer strokes, or lower to make shorter strokes.

In this way we follow the outline of our object until we are satisfied.

Now we will again go fast forward.

When we feel its okay, we go to view, zoom and fit image in window.

Then we make the free select tool active again.

We will make a selection of the edge of the subject like shown in the video, except the

back of the right cat.

We are going to sharpen this area.

First we go to select, feather and now we feather the selection with 50 pixels,

so we will get a smooth transition from the sharpened selection to the rest of the image.

Hit okay.

Go to the menu bar, click filters, enhance and sharpen.

Drag the dialog box to the top of your screen.

Then drag it out and move the image in the preview pane.

By sliding the sharpness slider, we can see that only the selected area is affected.

Make the sharpness 80.

Then click the preview of and on to see the difference.

Satisfied?

Hit okay.

Now we will make a selection of the back of the cat, to blur this area.

When we close this selection, the previous selection disappears.

Again to select, feather and just click okay, so this selection is

also feathered with 50 pixels.

Click filters, and now blur and gaussian blur.

Move the dialog box to the top of your screen again

and pull it out.

Make the blur radius 30, click the preview of and on, and then click okay.

Go to select and click none to deselect the selection.

Now we go to file, click on open as layers

and here we search for our background image, and we open it.

Hit the green downwards pointing arrow in the layers panel to move the background image

below the image of the cats.

Go to image and click fit canvas to layers.

Then click on view, zoom and fit image in window.

Now activate the move tool, check the option move the active layer

and activate the layer with the cats.

Move them in a way that you get a proper composition.

Then we activate the crop tool in the toolbox and we drag out a cutout.

By moving the handles and or the corners we can make corrections and by click and drag

inside the cutout, we can move the whole cutout.

When we think it looks okay, we click in one of the corners or hit enter to apply.

Click on the background layer to make the yellow dotted line invisible.

When we go to file and click save as, we can save our work

with all the layers as an xcf file.

But when we want to have an actual image, we go to export as, give our image a new name

and export it to our image folder.

And there we have it, a method to select a furry object or short hair.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial.

If so, please do not forget to like, subscribe and leave a nice comment to support my channel.

Thanks very much for watching!

China's Global Times welcomes 'mutual suspension' - Duration: 0:40.

Beijing and Moscow's response to the postponement decision has been positive so far.

Global Times, report all sides should take advantage of this period of "mutual suspension,"...

meaning no military exercises from the South and no provocations from the North.

The Chinese media outlet adds the Olympics... serving as a platform for dialogue between

the two Koreas is a new factor that could influence the situation on the peninsula.

Russian foreign minister Sergei Lavrov welcomed the decision, as it was often requested by

Moscow in the past.

The top diplomat also called it a period of "time out," after months of escalated tensions

between Pyongyang and Washington.

Preview RC Celta vs Real Madrid - Duration: 2:18.

Sunday's games will end in Vigo where Celta face Real Madrid in a clash that has become a LaLiga classic.

Much more than a simple game of football.

Zinedine Zidane's side have little margin for error after their failure in ElClasico against Barça.

They'll be looking for a win at Balaidos to put them back on the right track for 2018.

"That result isn't going to change 2017, which has been a great year for us.

But we do begin 2018 in a tricky situation and we are lagging behind.

However, we are Madrid, we never give up, we keep on fighting. Right now,

the team's more united than ever and that's very important."

Real Madrid's efforts will be affected by two major absences: Carvajal, who was

sent off against Barcelona, and Karim Benzema, who's out for at least a month.

On the plus side, Balaidos in recent times has proved happy hunting ground for los blancos.

Where they have won nine of their last ten meetings.

What's more, Ronaldo is up against one of his favourite rivals.

He's scored 15 goals in his last 8 games against Celta.

Another player who could make a difference is Iago Aspas. He'll be wanting to inspire

a team who are riding high after their win last time out at the RIAZOR-ABANCA.

Aspas has never been on the winning side against Real Madrid in LaLiga.

He'll be hoping to change all that and take Celta into a European qualification place.

Celta-Real Madrid, a high-flying fixture to end an exciting weekend of football in the greatest league in the world.

Match of the weekend: Sevilla FC vs Real Betis - Duration: 3:56.

Sevilla are preparing for a very special day. A day they have been looking forward to since the beginning of the season.

Yes, it's time for the Andalusian capital's big derby.

A game that oozes passion and colour, even though this time round neither team is at their best coming into the match.

As far as the home side are concerned, all eyes will be on Vincenzo Montella who'll be making his LaLiga

debut in charge of Sevilla. He'll be hoping to start his reign at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan in the best possible style.

The Italian takes over from 'Toto' Berizzo, who was relieved of his job after winning only one point out of the last nine.

The only change Montella might make will be the return of Steven Nzonzi to the line-up,

this seems even more likely given that Guido Pizarro is out due to suspension.

"It's a difficult time for us. We've all got to do more. If we want to do better

next year, we have to train even harder, show even more dedication"

Real Betis, for their part, ended the year having managed only 5 points out of the last 24.

The team have, however, shown more promise in their last two outings.

If Montella is the new face at Sevilla, Betis fans are eager to get a sight

of Ruben Castro, now his return from the Chinese Super league has been finalised.

Andres Guardado and Javi Garcia are back in contention for a place in the midfield.

Meanwhile, both Jordi Amat and coach, Quique Setien, are serving a ban.

"It's going to be a great game. Derby's are always exciting. I think we've prepared well.

Mentally we're strong and we're aware of what's at stake and what the derby means to the Betis fans"

"Our fans will be wanting to get right behind us for this game because of what

it means to the city. Nowhere else do they celebrate a game in this way"

In recent seasons Sevilla have had much the better of the derby.

Last year the team from Pizjuan won both games, the Argentinian Gabi Mercado emerging as an unlikely hero.

In fact, the last time Betis beat their local rivals in LaLiga was five years ago

when Beñat got both goals from free-kicks in a 2-1 victory.

Sevilla and Betis are hoping their fortunes change in 2018. The Fixture list has presented

both teams a golden opportunity to put the smiles back on their fan's faces.

A passionate derby to open the year.

It's the big game of the matchday weekend in LaLiga Santander.

number of returns to the ranks, especially for the home side.

Five players, Tito, Mantovani, Siovas, Omar and Gabriel, who all missed their last match

in the Ciutat de Valencia stadium are once more available for selection.

Another player who might make a reappearance after a series of debilitating injuries is Imanol Agirretxe.

The return of the Basque striker could well prove crucial for the second half

of the season after the departure of Carlos Vela for the North-American league.

LaLiga kicks off 2018 with an intriguing game.

Atletico Madrid and Getafe meet up in a Madrid derby at the Wanda Metropolitano.

Despite their defeat at Cornella after more than a year unbeaten, Atletico have received some Christmas presents:

Diego Costa and Vitolo are both in line to make their debut for the team.

"We're happy to put the last few difficult months behind us. We hope that the arrival of Vitolo and

Diego adds something more to a team that's already got a lot going for it".

They are, however, without Sail due to suspension.

Getafe, on the other hand, have lost in each of their last six visits to Atletico.

Not only that, they have failed to score in any of the encounters and have conceded 19 goals.

Preview UD Las Palmas vs SD Eibar - Duration: 0:58.

Paco Jemez will play a key part in the clash between Las Palmas and Eibar.

The coach of the Canarian team arrives with the mission of changing

the club's fortune as they are currently bottom of the league.

"As far as I'm concerned, I take our situation personally. As I've said before. It's not

just a sporting challenge, it's something for which I feel personally responsible".

They're up against an Eibar side who are in their best form of the season.

In their last six games, they've won five and drawn one

and now find themselves in an impressive seventh position in the league.

Preview FC Barcelona vs Levante UD - Duration: 2:14.

LaLiga returns to Camp Nou with a match that has proved more than fruitful for Barcelona.

Having won at the Santiago Bernabeu and increased their lead in relation to all the the other contenders,

Barça now host Levante who are currently suffering a poor run of form.

They've gone five games without a win.

Haven't even managed a draw in any their eleven visits to the Catalan capital.

To make matters worse, Muñiz is without three key players, Bardhi, Campaña and Morales, all of them serving bans.

Barça, however, will not be taking anything for granted against a team who got a draw at the Santiago Bernabeu.

And who have lost only one of their seven away games this season.

"There are still a lot of points in play, we all know how impossible things can happen in this game.

This is a long-distance race, we'll do our very best not to slip up along the way".

At Barcelona, the spotlight will as ever be trained on Leo Messi.

The Argentinian played a key part in his side's first game of 2017, getting a timely goal against Villarreal.

Now he faces one of his favourite victims.

He's scored 15 times against Levante in 14 encounters, and 9 of the goals have come at Camp Nou.

Leo Messi might well be in the spotlight, but the hopes of the Barcelona fans are directed towards one player:

Ousmane Dembele.

The Frenchman who hasn't played since he was injured in September at Getafe,

could well make a return to Ernesto Valverde's side.

Two teams in very different frames of mind meet up at the Estadio de La Ceramica.

Villarreal are riding high after a win at Balaidos.

And their triumphant victory in the Valencian derby at Mestalla. They're at home to Deportivo, who were soundly

beaten at Camp Nou and who lost their last game of the year in the Galician derby 3-1.

Cristobal, moreover, will be up against one of the most attack-minded teams in LaLiga, without Schär, who is serving a ban.

The Basque derby at San Mames features two teams who come into 2018 firing on all cylinders.

Athletic were unbeaten in their last six games of 2017 and are now in the race for a European place.

The only drawback for Ziganda will be the absence of Unai Nuñez, who'll miss his first game of the season due to suspension.

"We're now going to have a little rest. We started our pre-season before everyone

else and have been hard at it since July. We've got an exciting game coming up on our return,

we want to win that and move further up the table. That's what we're fighting for, that's what we want".

Abelardo Fernandez's arrival as coach seems to have worked wonders for Alaves.

Thanks to three wins in their last four games they have now moved out of the relegation zone.

Freezing winter storm slams U.S. Northeast - Duration: 1:49.

A massive cold wave is battering the United States.

Grounding flights and leaving trails of destruction behind in the country's northeast.

Ro Aram has the updates on the force of nature that continues to take lives.

The blizzard has been gripping the country's east coast and even as far down as Florida

over the past few days and it has now moved northward.

The so-called "bomb cyclone" is bringing blinding snow and hurricane force winds that are clocking

more than 110 kilometers an hour in some parts.

Weather forecasters say Boston could get up to 45 centimeters of snow, while New York

is bracing for more than 30.

But there are some who aren't too impressed with the winter storm.

(English) AP - 4133363 / 1

"I think it would be more windy and way colder.

I picture Day After Tomorrow, this is definitely not Day After Tomorrow - this is more day

after Christmas."

It has cut power for tens of thousands of people, forced schools and offices to close,

and has caused major travel disruptions.

Nearly three and a half thousand flights have been cancelled and several ferry services

have also been shut down temporarily.

Though some travelers are frustrated with their flights being delayed or cancelled,

others are coming to terms with the unavoidable situation.

(English) AP - 4133372 / 2

"It is frustrating but it is what it is.

We don't control mother nature so you just live with it and let it take its course."

The winter storm is expected to continue into the weekend and blizzard warnings are in effect

from Virginia all the way to Maine.

States of emergency have also been declared for several states along the storm's path.

Forecasters expect wind chills to fall to as much as minus 40 degrees, and 17 cold-related

deaths have so far been reported.

S. Korea logs current account surplus for 69th month in Nov. - Duration: 0:39.

For 69 months straight, South Korea posted a current account surplus.

The Bank of Korea says Seoul had a current account surplus of over seven-point-four billion

dollars in November.

A slight dip from the eight-billion in 2016, mainly driven by a sharp spike in the services

account deficit.

In that category the digits were nearly double compred to the previous year at three-point-three

billion dollars... due to the rise in overseas trips and foreign business services.

But the goods account surplus gained 18 percent on-year, to reach eleven-and-a-half billion...

as rising global demand helped South Korea enjoy strong overseas sales.

LEGO Minecraft The Farm Cottage review 🐰 21144 - Duration: 12:17.

hello everyone this is the LEGO Minecraft the farm cottage set which

introduces some new pieces and some new concepts that we haven't gotten before

from the LEGO Minecraft line one of the new things is this semi working envel

here that allows you to actually stamp things together what they want you to

stamp in this set is a name tag so this is a whole chest full of name tags and

some of these are already printed up named and some of them are not

they're just blank so there are three of the blank ones in there and they give

you some of these white colored brackets that can be used on minifigs and other

things and the idea is that they want you to put a name tag on there just kind

of kind of loosely you know using your imagination a little bit push on this

lever over here on the side bring that up line this up and bring it down and

just imagine that that's actually working so there you go you're able to

use an anvil to create a custom named nametag and then you can put that onto

something like how about this rabbit for example this is new brand new small head

there with a slope on the back of it and then it's brick built beneath that with

also the fairly new piece that they've introduced the 1 by 2 plate with hollow

studs and rounded edges so the idea here is that you would be able to use the

tail as a place to put a nametag does not work well on the rabbits have to say

because it's just going to be facing up but it's the idea it's the idea that

counts here I'm definitely happy to get the new actual rabbit figure though and

this set also includes a baby rabbit in the dark tan color so you could change

up the pieces and turn this into an adult obviously if you want to it's just

the same headpiece reused yeah so two rabbits in total two colors too bad they

don't actually give you the pieces you need

to turn this into an adult would have been just a handful of additional pieces

and would have provided some extra value for sure you can put a name tag on a

donkey that works this is a pretty good-looking donkey as the two saddles

that will actually hold some stuff it's a little bit difficult to get a figure

to sit on this with a name tag in place because it takes up one of the studs but

you can kind of make it work just need to have your figure leaning back a

little bit but this also uses the newer 1 by 2 plate with hollow studs and

rounded corners for the hooves at the front and the rear alike and this is

looking pretty good as the you know simulation of kind of a saddle there in

addition to the saddlebags so I'm happy with this I think everything about this

works out pretty well I could just bring the head up and down and you wring the

tail up and down as well you can also put a name tag on this baby pig that's

included in the set once again they don't include parts to turn it into an

adult but it's a little bit more palatable I think for the pig because it

is a a larger creature but yeah that kind of works putting it on the side

like that I don't know I think the the name tag thing worked really well on the

donkey it would probably work pretty decently well on a obviously a horse or

cow or a mushroom I think on these smaller things it's just awkward and

you're not able to get it to stand in or to be placed in kind of a more realistic

position you know you can turn that upside down and have it kind of look

like it's floating in the air a bit but hey is it thing it works in some cases

not really in others but back to the main build this has some pretty nice

terrain I kind of like the the lowered little bits of sand they have around

here rather than relying strictly upon blocks to connect pieces because I think

the the plates actually connect more securely than the 2 by 4 bricks would so

this stays together better and I think it looks good as well you know first

couple years they were trying to stick with full-sized bricks too

sent blocks as much as they could but you know they're starting to do things

that are a little bit more specific to the physical Lego builds and not quite

as realistic like like this here and I think that just looks really good and

that makes me want to think of different ways to use this so I hope that Lego

will continue to kind of break the mold a little bit and differentiate their

physical builds from trying to be entirely realistic as much as possible

because I think they're doing a good job with it I think it's working out pretty

well I'll come back to the main building but got a pen over here with a little

bit of hybrid building you know materials going between wood and the

stone corners I believe there was supposed to be and a little bit of I

love those those lily pads perfect design for that uses the new style of

flower piece for this year just the flower head a little bit of you know

stuff growing around here got actually kind of a nice idea of a farm that's

been started up here with some beets growing back there with the banner

you've got the wheat growing back there with the banner and you've got carrots

including carrots that are harvestable this is a very nice design again not

exactly how it necessarily works in game of having the whole thing in there but

it's pretty close and it's just fun it's just way better for the physical play to

to have that like that so I think I think things are looking pretty good

here on the exterior we've got a map printed map up on the side of the

building they're also the newer furnace piece which has the two prints so you

can have it look like it's on or off out of use and the door is still brick built

so you can open that up and the the build of the upper floors here looks

pretty good this is intended to represent a little diving board that's

been created there just for the sake of funds somebody could hop up on that and

then dive down although they do not include any way to actually get up there

and they're really is not enough space here to have a

figure go there but you can put smaller things up there like you can put

chickens in there and you can put I think a pig will fit in there and also

the rabbits of course will fit in there got some storage for hay up in the upper

level there and all of this can be removed on the top so that's your easy

access for figures to get there and then all this can also be removed this as

well yeah there we go so let's take a look inside this structure and there's

really not that much going on you have a bed there on one side that has been

colored and that's the yellowish orange color orange is yellow not just the

regular the yellow and then a crafting table and that's just it so that's a

little bit disappointing wish there was a little more stuff going on in here but

it is kind of limited in its total amount of space again kind of optimizing

for the physical build here you know rather than having full bricks going

across they've used tiles to create Stoppers and to create platforms and

spaces that that work well for the physical build and aren't as realistic

and I think that's all fine I think that it actually makes the Lego build more

fun to use easier to use and they make more sense as Lego builds this way with

everything put back together here's a quick look at the other side just in

case you're curious about it I think it doesn't look too bad from this side

either and this gives you a good look at Pete the way they built the harvestable

carrot section so all this is studs on the side construction you just have the

one by 2x1 panels there they're holding each one of these in pretty perfectly

this is also designed to be changed around in its overall configuration

pretty easily so they suggest taking some of these modules apart and they

give you this alternate idea for how to reassemble them change the look of the

structure over here quite a lot make it look a little bit more like

like a proper house and then put this here yeah and go ahead and put this pen

up top and that really completely changes around to me at least the look

and feel of this the shape of it just the the environment I feel has been

really changed a lot just by doing such such small things so little work is

required for that I like that sometimes the whole modular build thing

does not really add value doesn't really do that much but this is one of those

cases where I feel it does a lot I think that there will be a lot of people who

will prefer this form especially for the house over here and this just creates a

different shape and actually makes this look a little bit better as a diving

board area it just needs a ladder to go with this and man this is at the very

least good little little starter for getting you into changing things around

the way you want beyond just the instructions way almost every LEGO

Minecraft set has come with either Steve or Alex this one comes with Steve and

Alex and you get a wooden shovel a cookie and iron pickaxe and a little

printed a little bit of seeds I really like that seed print I like it probably

more than I should there's something really really cool

about that to me and I don't know why no armor here no change of leggings or

anything these are just absolutely default figures but that's okay I'm

alright with it I just want new player characters and

that's all oh yeah we also get this guy and yeah he's a skeleton and I think he

needs a name so yeah or maybe no maybe I'm wrong for assuming this skeletons

gender maybe I should have done this instead there we go

that's more appropriate all right no I'm good I like this set a lot it makes me

smile I'm like all these things and I like this thing and I like the

reconfiguring of things I like that thing and I like these things back here

how it's all put together so there's very little about this set that I

dislike like I definitely would like to see somebody other than just Steve and

Alex in one of these sets at some point in the future it would be really nice

sooner the sooner the better but you know just beyond that this is good this

is this is done right I think that they've really started to make LEGO

Minecraft its own thing over this past year you know rather than just trying to

be a physical manifestation block for block as much as possible of a game you

know it's it's becoming something more I definitely hope that this trend

continues I'm also starting to look forward to the end of this release

season because I've collected all these new Minecraft related things for this
