Youtube daily Jan 8 2018

My favorite new trick is that I can be sitting in my office, both at home and at work, in

range of my Google Home and ask it to start my car for me.

While that's still a bit of an edge case, the use of Google Assistant is not, as Google

says there are now more than 400 million devices that run the Assistant.

Before we get into that, though, I'm Mickey Mellen and this is A Brighter Web, episode

#33, brought to you by all of us at GreenMellen.

Our goal with this podcast is to give you quick, weekly insights and tips to help you

get more done and free up your time to do great things.

We also want to thank our sponsor GoWP.com.

GoWP provides white-label WordPress support for agencies and web professionals.

Use code ABW for a 15% discount on any monthly plan.

Today, we'll talk more about the Google Assistant, sub-folders not hurting your SEO, unusual

keywords, top fad searches of 2017, and more.

Let's dig in.

So Google says that their Google Assistant is now on more than 400 million.

While Google Home devices only make up a small part of that.

It's mostly phones.

It's still an impressive number.

A fun note is that Google said they sold more than one Google Home device every second since

the Google Home mini started shipping in October, so around six and a half million of those.

In our house, we have a ton of Assistant capable devices.

We have three cell phones that run it, four separate Google Homes and now my new Pixel

Bud headphones, lots of ways to access the Assistant from anywhere.

It's becoming crazy useful.

As I mentioned at the top of the show, I just realized I can now yell at my Google Home

to start my car and the ongoing battle with Amazon Alexa is only going to keep making

both products get better and better.

Google says too many sub-folders won't hurt your search rankings.

In the distant past, a large number of folders in a URL could affect rankings because Google

could see it as being further away from the homepage.

For example, if you had website.com/greenapples, that would be seen as better than website.com/products/fruit/apples/green.

Google has confirmed that this is no longer the case.

In particular, they said, "As long as the URLs work and are linked consistently, that

should be fine."

Googlebot doesn't make up URLs.

There's a theory out there that Google will sometimes make up URLs to try to randomly

guess and find new pages that they might not otherwise discover.

As Barry Schwartz says, "It seems kind of inefficient and un-Google-like," and I tend

to agree.

Google's John Mueller confirms, saying, "In general, Googlebot doesn't make up URLs.

So if they were found and not in your sitemap file, it's likely that they were linked from

somewhere within your site and it's possible those links have been removed."

Now it's interesting that he says in general, they don't make up URLs.

But I assume the difference there is that they only invent URLs that are similar to

other ones, kind of taking off extra query parameters, that kind of thing.

I don't think Googlebot's gonna be randomly crawling your site, looking for random pages.

In most cases, you can see those show up as 404 errors if they do and we don't.

So I think John is correct with that.

Unusual keywords and Search Analytics reports might be knowledge graph related.

So this is kind of an edge case too.

But if you dig deep into Google Search consul, you may find some keywords that Google says

you ranked number one or number two for and get a lot of impressions.

But you can't find them near the top at all and what could be happening here is that an

image of yours is showing up in a featured snippet or knowledge graph entry, so showing

up, getting lots of traffic, but when you search, you don't see it.

So if you're the kind of person that likes to dig around Search Console, it's worth reading

this full article that we have linked in our show notes so you can learn more about that.

In a previous podcast, we talked about the most searched phrases on 2017 and Google's

now also released a list of the most searched fads of 2017.

Lots of unicorn phrases are in there, particularly thanks to Starbucks and their Unicorn Frappuccino.

The top "how to make" search of 2017 was how to make slime.

With an 11 year old at home, we were certainly part of this trend.

Other trendy searches were "cash me outside," Elf on the Shelf, and acronyms like GOAT,

Greatest Of All Time, and TFW, That Feeling When.

The full list is in our show notes, so you can see all the fads that Google say were

the most popular of the year.

The last article I want to share for this week is one from Entrepreneur that talks about

four tips to gain customers' trust and I thought it was just some good, basic tips we should

all be following.

Number one, give lightning fast responses.

If customers have questions for you, get back to them as quickly as you're able.

Keep your inbox clean, which we talk about a lot on our website and on this podcast as

a great way to do that.

Number two, never underestimate the value of small talk.

If you're a small business, your biggest advantage is that you're a person and not a big company.

It's easy to make a bit of small talk with your clients to show you're human and show

that side of yourself.

It can really set you apart from others.

Number three, use a time-tested internal system.

Make sure you don't let anything slip through the cracks.

We at GreenMellen love Asana, but there are many other great systems out there for you

to use.

But make sure you use some kind of system to make sure you're on top of everything,

nothing falls through the cracks, you can follow your process all the way through.

Number four, talk to your customers as you would to your boss because they're essentially

your boss.

You want to treat them that way with all the respect they deserve.

So it's a simple article, but it gets into some pretty good detail if you read through

and we have a link to it in our show notes if you want to dig into that and learn a bit

more.

Lastly, for our tip of the week, I want to back up a little bit.

Back in 2009, Dennis Crowley launched the Foursquare app, allowing people to check in

at various places and do fun things that become mayor if they check in more often than their

friends.

For a little while, some restaurants and stuff even offered discounts if you were the mayor

of the restaurant.

It kind of faded a little bit and in 2014, they split the check-in aspect of the app

into a new app called Swarm.

Recent updates have made it a great app for some of us.

In the early days of Foursquare, I tried to use it as a social app, but not enough of

my friends joined it.

Instead, I began to use it as a historical tracker for myself and the tweaks they've

made to Swarm have been great.

It's focused just really on keeping a log of where you've checked in, how often, and

a little bit of what your friends are up to.

But it's more about the check in experience.

Better still, I put a setting in If, the "if this, then that" program, which takes each

of my check ins and puts them on a private Google Calendar for myself.

The calendar now goes back years so I can see where we went for dinner on a particular

day, that kind of thing.

It's more fun than useful, but I like it.

If you've ever used Foursquare or Swarm in the past, I encourage you to check it out

again, as it could be kind of useful for you.

That's all we have for this week.

Jeep Wrangler DV8 Off-Road Tire Carrier (2007-2018 JK) Review & Install - Duration: 6:10.

If you're looking at putting bigger tires on your JK, then looking at heavy-duty tire

carriers is most likely on your agenda as well.

When adding a larger tire, it's always recommended that you have a bigger tire carrier to support

that added weight of your new spare, instead of stressing out your tailgate hinges.

With most aftermarket wheels, you'll have a more shallow backspacing that will not tuck

the tire in as much as the stock set up, and this can cause some extra leverage and extra

stress on your tailgate as well.

This DV8 Off-Road Tire Carrier will mount to the body of the Jeep, alleviating all that

stress on your tailgate.

This will cradle up to a 42-inch tire, and it can even accommodate a tire width of up

to 13.5 inches, providing some protection for your tire as well as creating a rugged

and different look, compared to most options.

Not to mention, this will give you the choice of whichever aftermarket bumper you would

like to go with, instead of searching for one with a tire carrier or one that is compatible

with a tire carrier.

Installing this is a two out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter, since there is a

little bit of drilling required, but I'll give you more details about the install in

just a minute.

DV8 really put a lot of thought into this tire carrier, and it shows in the construction.

The carrier itself is made of 1 3/4-inch diameter steel tubing, that's strong enough to take

the load and the stress of the larger tire.

It mounts in four places on the body of the Jeep for even weight distribution and helps

ensure that you have a rattle-free carrier.

This does mount to the hinges but it's the outer hinges on the body of the Jeep, like

I just mentioned, so this will not interfere with the tailgate or its functionality.

Not to mention, this carrier will be compatible with aftermarket, rear corner guards, if that's

something that you've already added to your Jeep, or you were looking to add to the Jeep

in the future.

This is a high-clearance carrier, which will raise the tire up to accommodate the larger

tire diameters, and it will tuck the tire more towards the body, creating a better departure

angle for more clearance.

How the tire is mounted inside of the carrier makes for very easy removal and better support,

which is beneficial, if you're in a pinch on the trail.

There is a large rod that will bolt through the center of the wheel and use a large spindle

to thread on and hold the tire in place.

Opening the carrier is also a breeze, because it uses quick release hitch pins to open up,

and it has a hinge stopper that will stop the carrier from opening up too far.

This even has a rubber bump stop on the mount to avoid any slamming of the carrier.

This also has a couple other cool features, including removable dimple plates on the back

of the carrier as well as a license plate relocation bracket and a cover for the old

mount for your license plate.

The tubular design even is good for mounting accessories like a high lift jack, off-road

lights, jerry cans and even your CB radio antenna.

This is on the higher end of the price spectrum for a top-mounted tire carrier coming in at

right around $590.

But with the well thought out construction of this, it is worth the price.

A lot of other lower-priced tire carriers will require you to mount them on your bumper

or they will come pre-installed on a new bumper.

This option gives you the choice of sticking with any aftermarket bumper you would like

to run in conjunction with your new tire carrier.

Also, some other lower-priced options include similar top-mounted tire carriers like this.

However, they will be a bit more updated and a heavier-duty version of your stock tire

carrier and your stock mounts.

With those options, you will get heavy-duty hinges and reinforced mounts that will bolt

up to the tailgate.

These will still be great options if you're looking for a tire carrier that is, basically,

a heavy-duty version of the stock mount.

But this option here will not put the weight on the tailgate at all, eliminating all those

worries about the tailgate sagging.

Not to mention, this thing has a style of its own compared to all of the other average

tire carriers.

Overall, if you were looking for something different and well-constructed to hold your

over-sized tire, this is definitely worth the price.

Like I mentioned, this will be a two out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter, taking

you about an hour or so to get this one installed and ready to go.

Now, this will require drilling, so you, obviously, will need a drill and a couple other hand

tools to get the job done.

First things first, you have to remove your stock carrier with a couple of bolts and disconnect

your third brake light harness.

This does not come with the third brake light, so you can tuck the wire inside of the tailgate

if you're not looking to use it right away, or you can completely remove it if you're

not looking to use it at all.

After that, you need to remove the rubber bump stops and the hinge covers.

You have to remove and modify both hinges, but you have to do one at a time, to prevent

the tailgate from slipping.

Take off the top one first and remove the one end of the hinge pin from the OE hinge

with a Dremel and remove the hinge completely.

Then you can install the DV8 hinge with a longer hardware in the OEM location.

Then, you can repeat for the bottom hinge and insert the hinge pin in the hinge stopper

bowl.

Moving to the other side, remove the tail light and the license plate bracket and install

the tire carrier on the new hinges.

Then you can install the tire stud and the license plate holder and then install the

tire on the mount, to have the proper weight on there for more accurate drilling.

Take the bracket that will be bolted on the driver's side of the Jeep and attach it to

the swing, and then close it gently up against the body, to mark and drill holes.

After you're done drilling, you can open the tire carrier and mount the bracket to the

body and drill two more holes, that were originally covered when the tire carrier was closed.

You can re-install your tail light and do any other adjustments needed for good alignment

with the adjustable cam on the carrier hinge.

Lastly, you can test your new carrier, making sure everything fits easily, and you're all

set.

So, if you're looking for an efficient, yet different way to carry your over-sized tire,

DV8 has you covered.

This is Merideth with XT.

Jeep Wrangler Centerforce Dual Friction Clutch (2007-2011 3.8L JK) Review - Duration: 3:16.

This Centerforce Dual Friction Clutch is for those of you that have a 2007 to 2011 JK with

the 3.8-liter engine that are looking for a clutch that's going to drive and feel just

like an OEM clutch but is going to give you a little bit more grip and also going to hold

up very well over time, especially if you're somebody who's on the rocks with your stick

Jeep.

You're gonna be slipping the clutch a lot.

This is going to hold up incredibly well for you but still drive on-road very comfortably.

Now, a clutch is a wear item.

Jeep knows you need to replace it at some point, so they make it fairly easy.

However, a clutch install will require dropping the transmission out of your Jeep, so I am

going to give it a strong two out of three wrenches.

If you haven't done this before, it will probably help to have an extra set of hands around,

and you're gonna wanna give yourself three hours or so, but we'll talk more about that

install in just a second.

So like I said, this is going to be priced pretty similar to an OEM replacement clutch.

This is going to be a kit that includes both the pressure plate here and also the friction

plate, so you're going to have that and the alignment tool.

It's not going to be a full clutch kit that also has your flywheel, but there are those

options available as well if you need that.

This is going to be priced and feel and drive very similar to a factory clutch, but like

I said, it is going to be able to grip a little bit better and hold up very well over time.

This clutch does use Centerforce's patented dual friction technology that's going to give

you a nice easy pedal feel, really smooth engagement, but it's also going to hold up

really well and give you some very nice holding power.

Now, Jeeps aren't going to be high-power, but if you have added some power adders, that

extra holding power will be really nice.

And even if you're just off-road, you wanna make sure that you're not going to end up

with your clutch slipping if you're up against a rock or another obstacle off-road.

You wanna make sure that things are going to grab and hold nice and tight, and that's

what you're gonna get here from this kit.

So the install is going to be a strong two outta three wrenches.

Nothing incredibly difficult about the install, but it is going to be time-consuming and you

have to do a good bit of disassembly on the Jeep.

You're gonna wanna start in the inside, making sure that you remove or disconnect anything

that's going to keep the trans from lowering down.

Then you'll have to get underneath the Jeep, there's a cross member to remove, you'll have

to remove pieces of the exhaust system or at least unbolt them and get them outta the

way.

There are going to be some fuel lines that you'll also have to move.

Eventually, you'll be able to drop the transmission out of your way, just pop the old clutch off,

put the new one into place, and reverse the process, putting everything back together.

So like I said before, this clutch is going to run you pretty much the same cost as an

OEM replacement clutch would be and it is going to have some features that, in my opinion,

make it a really nice option for on-road and off-road Jeeps.

So I think this is going to be a really good buy for what you get.

So if you need to swap out the clutch on your JK and you're looking for something with a

little bit more holding power and some great life and longevity, I definitely recommend

looking at this option from Centerforce, and you can find it right here at extremeterrain.com.

Jeep Wrangler Rugged Ridge Stainless Steel Exhaust Header (2007-2011 3.8L JK) Review - Duration: 4:40.

These Rugged Ridge Stainless Steel Exhaust Headers are for those of you that have a 2007

to 2011 JK with that 3.8 liter engine, that are looking for a replacement exhaust manifold.

These are going to be very similar in design to that factory exhaust manifold, but they

are going to be made of 409 stainless, so you're not going to have to worry about these

rusting out, like you would in mild steel or even an aluminized set.

This is going to be a fairly involved installation.

There's no cutting and there's no drilling, but I am going to give it a strong two out

of three wrenches.

There's a good deal of disassembly you'll need to do in the engine bay of your Jeep

in order to get these installed, and we'll talk more about that installation in just

a second.

So, like I said, whether you have a cracked or rusted out set of exhaust headers on your

JK, whether it's one, whether it's both, let's face it, even the newest 2011 JK with that

3.8 in it, is getting a little bit older.

This is gonna be a great replacement, and it's going to be an upgrade in the fact that

it is 409 stainless instead of aluminized or mild steel, so this is a job that you're

not going to have to do again any time soon.

Now, stainless steel is going to be more expensive than aluminized steel or mild steel, so you

are going to have to prepare to spend a little bit more for this kit than you would for an

OEM replacement set that is made out of an inferior metal.

But, again, this is going to be higher quality stuff.

With 409, you can expect to get a little bit of surface rust, some oxidation on it, but

you won't get rotting through like you would with other steels.

So you are getting something for that additional money.

So, as for construction, the main point to make is one I've already made, and it's about

the materials these are constructed from.

This is 409 stainless.

It's not 304 stainless, but it is 409 stainless, and it's gonna hold up a lot better than steel

or aluminized steel would over time.

You're not gonna have to worry about this rusting, like you would with some of those

other materials.

Now, these also boast a little bit more of a free-flowing design.

You might get a little bit of additional power out of these.

I wouldn't expect it to be something that you feel, even in that seat-of-the-pants dyno.

This is not going to be a performance mod by any stretch of the imagination.

However, if you're gonna swap out your header, you want them to be a little more free-flowing

than those factory ones, and that is something that Rugged Ridge is going to give you with

this set of headers.

This is going to be a very complete kit.

This does come with your gaskets.

It comes with all of your hardware.

It also comes with some heat shields for all of your spark plug wires, which is going to

be a nice add, as well.

So let's talk a bit about that installation.

Again, I'm gonna give it a very strong two out of three wrenches.

No cutting or major modification, so we're not in that three-out-of-three-wrench range,

but a lot of disassembly in that engine bay underneath the hood to do, in order to get

a set of these installed.

So keep that in mind.

You might wanna purchase these and take your Jeep to a shop to have them installed, if

you're not comfortable doing this type of work.

Now, you are going to have to remove your intake air box, your power steering reservoir,

a fuse block, your battery and your battery tray, to make room to get your headers out

of the way.

Once you have them completely unbolted, you'll have to remove the old gasket, ensure that

the new gasket is properly placed so everything steels up.

Reinstall your new headers with your new hardware.

You're also going to put your spark plug boots on at this time and go ahead and reassemble

everything back into the Jeep.

This is probably going to be a three-plus-hour installation, for most of you in your driveway.

So this set of headers does run around $400, and that is mostly because of the material

that they're made out of.

This 409 stainless is going to be a lot more expensive than mild steel or even aluminized

steel.

So, if you're willing to spend a little bit more money, I do think that these are gonna

be a good buy.

I do think that you're getting something for the additional money that you have to spend.

With these, you're not going to have to be replacing your headers any time soon.

These are gonna hold up very, very well for you.

In my opinion, because this is a more difficult installation, because it does take a lot of

time and energy to get a set of these installed, I'd rather spend a little bit more, knowing

that I'm getting something better, higher quality, that is going to last longer.

And I think that's what you get here, all for a pretty fair price.

So, if you're looking to swap out the headers on your JK for a set that are made of a nice,

high-quality stainless steel, that's gonna hold up really well over time, I definitely

recommend taking a look into this kit from Rugged Ridge.

And you can find it right here at extremeterrain.com.

Mega Construx Halo 5 Woodland Gungoose set review - Duration: 9:05.

hallo this is the mega constructs halo UNSC woodland gun goose set and know

this is not just another rehash of an existing gun goose design this is their

first full-on Halo 5 gun goose the last ones that we got were more halo 2

anniversary inspired so this is a completely new design with a lot of new

elements or a lot of new ways of constructing things compared to previous

ones I just want to bring in one of the more recent ones just for a quick little

comparison and and how they they look and there's really not a lot of

comparison there are not a lot of shared pieces surprisingly they they did a lot

more to differentiate it then I expected them to it's almost a ground-up redesign

handful of pieces are kept from the old one but this is this is a pretty

cool-looking thing it has the simulated swing arms on the rear which are not

able to actually work you know they don't actually go up and down but I

think they look pretty good you are able to put a second figure on the back of

this I got the single handhold on one side it's a lot more sleek than previous

ones it's a little bit a little bit closer in its overall volume to the old

school ones really you know they're much smaller ones but you know it's got more

more center clearance you see they've got that the cutout on the underside

with the use of the inverted slope pieces so that makes it just look a

little bit more thin in the center rather than having what they've done for

the longest time of just you know this flat base of the chassis which is

completely unrealistic you know it just doesn't look anything as good as this

doesn't look as spry this actually has a little bit of forward rake like the real

ones do and the gun emplacements the little grenade launcher cylinders there

are looking pretty good I mean for this scale it's good that they've continued

to use those barrel pieces but the way that they're set up now looks like the

thing it's supposed to be looks like the grenade launcher setup for the halo

5 gun goose range and you know this has the proper camo this is a an exclusive

camo I believe actually with prints rather than just going with the plain

mix you know some a lot of these pieces use the mix but up here for the fenders

and for the the nose bit there they actually have prints for the camo

design on top of the standard marbling that they have done for years and years

now the figure is not able to kind of get down crouched down quite as much as

I would like but it's not bad it's not far from from what it needs I think a

little bit of modification would allow you to get the seat just a little bit

lower than that notice even a little suggestion in there of some suspension

as well some shocks that's nice there's a lot of shaping here that is

really unnecessary so to speak for just a toy but very much appreciated by me

you know the rounded shaping inside of there the inverted rounded slope pieces

used also actually upside down yeah yeah so a lot of nice stuff going on with

this so you know small small build for sure but I like it I think it that it's

a good move forward for the design there's only one thing that's a little

bit off with this that I experienced and that is that well there it is right

there perfect doesn't always do that but see how just this tire is not touching

the ground or it's not consistently touching the ground because it doesn't

seem like there's just a perfect angle for the swing arm joint itself where

it's attached at the center towards the the chassis it's it's not it's not

free-floating it's actually ratcheted and it's not exact from one side to the

next so it's just a little bit of tweak in the chassis like that haven't been

able to really get that out I think you can kind of kind of fake it a little bit

kind of you know twist the thing a little bit to get it to try to to bend

the pieces but if you go too far with it then you're gonna tweak in the opposite

direction so that's just a little bit off you push down on it at all I mean

the tweak is so little you push down and on on it at all and you're gonna get all

four tires but that's just one thing that's a little bit off that I didn't

want to point out this figure is a pathfinder Spartan with the female torso

and armor to fit that specific torso then up in the crimson color main

plastic colour with a lot of speckling in it and it looks pretty good

I think that it was a good choice to to pair up the the Pathfinder design with

the female torso because it just it kind of accentuates all the lines you know

there there are a lot of v-shaped lines in that armor and I think it it goes

with the somewhat exaggerated waistline of the the body there pretty well just

just makes it look a little bit more striking and yeah I think it's a good

figure color scheme that works pretty well for it comes with the suppressed

SMG there that's just that I'm not even mad about the fact that it doesn't have

an outline around the visor because there's enough contrast there that both

up close and from a reasonable distance you still see the visor color very very

clearly so yeah this this works out just fine

pretty nice small set overall if you have one of these or if you happen to

get one of them please post up a comment down below with your experience with the

wheels and the the angles of the swing arms at the rear if you have the same

problem that I did they'll be interesting to to get some more data

from more different people and you know there's something about this this style

for the the vertical packaging in particular I guess it's it just shows

you a lot but there's something about it that that seemed off to me that didn't

seem quite real that didn't draw me in didn't make me feel like I was seeing

what I was going to get in the box and I finally figured it out after staring at

this for a few minutes it's the fact that this is all clearly CG it's it's

rendered it's not showing the actual product I wish that make it

would go to two actually showing photographs I mean they can be they can

be touched up you know the little fire and stuff and stuff in the background is

is fine actually I think it's really interesting but I would like to see this

as an actual an actual build I'd like to see exactly what I'm gonna get in it

would just make it feel more like that's what I'm gonna get you know I'm just

trying to think a little bit more through the eyes of just a standard

consumer specifically younger folks than myself especially who would just be

drawn in I think more to that idea that you're looking at something that's

actually there just seem more more crisp and and real you know I think especially

with the lighting here that doesn't have a lot of specular highlighting the small

bright highlights just makes it seem a little bit a little bit surreal and not

in a good way not on not in a way that that makes it look even better than it

actually is so I'm just not the not the best

impression that I think that I could get from the packaging just a little bit of

a side now a little bit of a tangent there but at least the set inside is

pretty good except for that a little bit of issue again please let me know if you

encounter that if you get this same product but that does conclude my look

at the UNSC woodland gun goose set and I'm looking forward to getting some more

builds from Meghan you know they've really focused a lot on the figures

lately which totally makes sense because they make a lot of money off of that and

a lot of people want to the figures and in construction you know brick based

construction stuff in general in that entire world there are a lot of folks

traditionally who have favored figures over builds and have bought a lot of

sets for their figures and kind of seen that the builds as secondary things so I

completely understand their focus on figures and I've seen that they have

been very successful with their single figure packs I hope that they will

continue to become more successful again so that they'll be able to do more stuff

but I personally also really appreciate the bills so thank you for watching this

video I will bring you more as soon as I can but until then bye for now

you
