In First TV Interview, President Trump Says Torture "Absolutely" Works - Duration: 10:09.

AMY GOODMAN: During the ABC interview on Wednesday that Donald Trump did with David Muir, he

asked Trump about torture.

DAVID MUIR: Mr. President, you told me during one of the debates that you would bring back

waterboarding— PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP: Yeah.

DAVID MUIR: —"and a hell of a lot worse," in your words.

PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP: I would do—what I would do—I want to keep our country safe.

I want to keep our country safe.

DAVID MUIR: What does that mean?

PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP: When they're shooting—when they're chopping off the heads of our people

and other people, when they're chopping off the heads of people because they happen

to be a Christian in the Middle East, when ISIS is doing things that nobody has ever

heard of since medieval times, would I feel strongly about waterboarding?

As far as I'm concerned, we have to fight fire with fire.

Now, with that being said, I'm going with General Mattis.

I'm going with my secretary, because I think Pompeo is going to be phenomenal.

I'm going to go with what they say.

But I have spoken, as recently as 24 hours ago, with people at the highest level of intelligence,

and I asked them the question: Does it work?

Does torture work?

And the answer was "Yes, absolutely."

AMY GOODMAN: Vince Warren of the Center for Constitutional Rights?

VINCENT WARREN: Do not believe a word that comes out of Donald Trump's mouth, particularly

with respect to this issue.

There is zero chance that he spoke to high-level officials and they said torture works, because

everybody knows that torture doesn't work, particularly if you're trying to get actionable,

good, reliable information.

Now, it might make the president feel better.

It might make an angry president that is manufacturing an angry world feel better about his role

in it.

But it does not work.

And what—but I think what's the most important piece here is that we are seeing what we saw

just after 9/11, where folks will come out and paint this bleak world.

They will manufacture facts that will then be the backdrop for what is essentially regressive

policies.

Torture is illegal under U.S. law.

It's illegal under international law.

It does not matter how the president feels about it.

It does not matter whether the president is interpreting his generals and his nominees

to say, "Yeah, it's probably a good idea, or at least we should think about it."

There is a blanket prohibition on it, and this country needs to abide by that.

So, don't believe that there is anyone, really, that is rational and sane and has

anything to do with intelligence or has any knowledge of the law, that would say torture

is a good thing that we should do, because it isn't.

AMY GOODMAN: I want to turn to Senator John McCain, who chairs the Senate Armed Services

Committee.

On Tuesday, he tweeted, "@POTUS can sign whatever executive orders he likes, but the law is

the law–we're not bringing back torture."

McCain further addressed the issue Wednesday on MSNBC's Morning Joe.

SEN. JOHN McCAIN: The executive order is circumscribed by the law that we passed prohibiting the

use of torture.

And even though the Army Field Manual can be reviewed, it still does not allow to return

to the use of torture, including waterboarding.

... I'm happy that General Mattis has spoken out against it, as has every—General Petraeus,

you name them.

Any military leader you respect have said we should not torture people.

And I'm very confident that it wouldn't stand a day in court if they try to restore that.

AMY GOODMAN: I want to turn to Kenneth Roth, executive director of Human Rights Watch,

the group expressing its, well, deep concern over Donald Trump's agenda.

KENNETH ROTH: Because Guantánamo is now there as an ongoing detention facility, it is an

invitation for Trump to start refilling it, which I'm afraid Trump is determined to do.

And it's worth noting that, you know, one thing we expect, either today or later in

this week, is an order from Trump to begin exploring or considering—or some kind of

word like that—the resumption of CIA dark sites.

Now, it's interesting that this is going to be in an executive order, because these

dark sites are supposedly super secret, you know, even though we all know about them.

But the order that we've—you know, has been reported on, has the kind of obligatory

caveat that, of course, we won't use torture.

But, you know, what's the point of these black sites other than to use torture?

That's why they were created in the first place.

AMY GOODMAN: And speaking at a news conference on Wednesday, the House minority leader, Nancy

Pelosi, addressed the issue of the possible executive orders to re-establish black sites,

CIA prisons.

MINORITY LEADER NANCY PELOSI: Well, I think that this would be a step backward.

And I'm not alone in thinking that, that what he—the path he's going down is wrong.

It is not about our values as a country.

And don't ask me; just ask John McCain and others.

Any reverting to that, again, does not support our values, but also endangers our people

who are there, whether it's, from a security standpoint, intelligence community or in the

military.

So, I just think that it's wrong, and I hope that he will rethink it, and I hope he

will listen to even some Republican leaders on this subject.

AMY GOODMAN: So that's the House minority leader, Nancy Pelosi.

Vince Warren, should the Obama administration—should President Obama have gone after Bush administration

officials involved with torture, actually had people tried, as CCR has tried to do over

and over again?

Would that have sent a stronger message?

VINCENT WARREN: It would have sent a much stronger message.

And yes, President Obama absolutely should have done that.

And there is some controversy around the question of should we be pursuing criminal prosecution

for high-level Bush officials.

But this is an example—one of the things we were saying at the time is that if we just

do these things by executive order, if we just do these things by sort of a consensus-based

discussion in a particular administration, it doesn't deter future administrations

from bringing torture back.

And so that's what we're seeing.

Had President Obama sought to hold high-level Bush officials accountable, we would probably—or

we might be in a different situation, at least that there would be a broader consensus that

what was happening was wrong.

And the question was—would be: What role did each individual have in it?

It would make a stronger case to push back against President Trump.

It's similar to what we were—what Center for Constitutional Rights has done in the

Supreme Court just recently.

We had a case earlier in January where we were challenging Bush-level officials for

rounding up Muslims in New York right after 9/11.

The idea there is that if we can't rely on the federal government to hold its own

lawbreakers accountable, then it really falls to civil society groups, like the Brennan

Center and CCR, to try to hold them accountable through any legal means that we can.

AMY GOODMAN: Last comment, Faiza Patel, on where you see this administration going and

where you see the possibility, even with these executive orders, presidential memo, as just

being a kind of arrows to a roadmap of what the president wants to do, but them being

turned back by Congress?

FAIZA PATEL: So I think the president is doing pretty much exactly what he said he would do

I mean, you've got to give him credit for that.

If you go back and you look at his campaign plan and you look at his campaign pledges,

I mean, he's delivering on what he said he would do.

And that's what makes me really scared, because a lot of people were saying, "Oh,

well, he's not really going to go that far.

It's not going to be that—as bad as you think it is."

And it is as bad as we think it is or as we thought it was going to be.

In terms of congressional action, I have to say, while I'm an optimistic person, I'm

not too optimistic on that particular point.

Much of what we expect from President Trump is being done under the immigration laws,

where the executive traditionally does have fairly broad authority.

You know, the other sort of basis for his actions seems to be national security, again

another area where the executive is generally granted a fair amount of latitude.

So I think we're going to have to fall back on the courts and civil society together to

be pushing back against these very extreme and very unproductive ways of addressing what

is a genuine security threat.

And I think that we will undoubtedly see litigation—hopefully Vince is ready with the papers soon—to be

challenging some of these laws.

And I think that—you know, we are not in the immediate aftermath of 9/11, and I think

that's something to remember.

The president painted a scary picture of the world.

And yes, in some senses, the world is a scary place.

But if you look at the United States, you know, the number of terrorist attacks we have

in this country, while each one is horrific, is really—does not result—do not result

in huge numbers of fatalities.

The numbers are quite low, especially compared to when you look at the number of deaths through

gun violence.

And we have a—we don't have a terrorism emergency in the homeland that would warrant

such an extreme reaction.

And I'm hoping that the courts will also be receptive to the fact that this is not—this

is not September 12th, OK?

This is a long time after September 12th.

And that they will see through some of the fluff that's been put around these executive

actions, to get at their true intent, which is nefarious.

AMY GOODMAN: Faiza Patel, I want to thank you for being with us, co-director of the

Liberty and National Security program at the Brennan Center.

And Vincent Warren, thanks for joining us, executive director of the Center for Constitutional Rights.

In The Cave Episode #21: 7 Chrome Extensions That You Should Be Using - Duration: 6:42.

Justin: On this episode of "In The Cave" we're talking about email trackers, analytics, and

a bunch of other Chrome extensions that you need to have - stick around.

[Sexy intro music]

Jordan: It's been a while. Alright guys.

Welcome to another episode of "In The Cave," I am Jordan Scheltgen.

Justin: I'm Justin Kerby.

Jordan: And today, we are talking about...

Justin: The Steelers!

Go Steelers!

We're going to the Super Bowl! Jordan: ...and also Chrome extensions.

Let's re-film it because they might be knocked out.

Justin: I don't care.

[The sound of Justin weeping]

Jordan: Alright nevermind. We're talking about Chrome extensions for marketers, and which ones we love,

and you should download right now.

If you don't have Chrome and are on Mozilla, I'm sure they have some extensions.

If you have Internet Explorer please join us in 2017.

Justin: If you have Internet Explorer you're probably not watching this because you don't

know how to use YouTube.

If you are on Internet Explorer right now, come on.

Download Chrome, anyways.

Let's get into these Chrome extensions.

First, we're gonna get into our beers here.

What are we drinking?

Jordan: Today we have the Americana Golden Ale from Barley Mow Brewing Company.

It's a simple, honest craft, that pairs with grilled wings, apple pie, and liberty.

Justin: It also has an awesome sticker on the side that says "Let freedom brew."

Jordan: Why can't I open one beer without it exploding.

These have been in the fridge for three weeks.

It doesn't want me to drink it.

Justin: It's pretty good, I like it.

4.8% alcohol, guessing it's from America somewhere.

Jordan: Yeah it tastes like freedom.

Justin: Oh, Largo Florida, there you go.

Alright cool.

Jordan: It's kind of like a, I don't know, hipster Bud Light.

Let's get into the show.

Justin: Okay, Chrome extensions.

Here we go.

Number one we're going to talk about, tell us about Marker.

Jordan: The first Chrome extension that I want to talk to you about is Marker, which,

I believe is Marker.io, and it's a simple extension that lets you screenshot websites,

quickly annotate them, and then actually drop that file into a Slack channel, a Trello board,

into Google Drive, etc.

So it's a great way to quickly send snapshots in between team members without doing the

print screen, open up paint, or open up Skitch and going from there.

Justin: Really easy for taking screenshots, if you ever have something wrong with your

website that you want to send to your developer, super easy, you can do it in two seconds.

There are a lot of other tools that can do that as well, but Marker is just like, I would

say the UI on it is the best, it's really easy for marking stuff up.

Jordan: Next one.

Justin: First one I want to talk about is Ghostery.

So what Ghostery does is it sits there in your Chrome tab like all the other extensions

and whenever you're on a website if you click it, it will show you what ad platforms that

website is using to track you so if they're using Google analytics, if they have a Facebook

retargeting pixel, all that good stuff it tells you a lot of information so if you have

a competitor, you can go to their website to check out to see what stuff they're using

and then replicate that so it's really good for matching to see what your competitors

are using.

Then you can evaluate and go from there.

Talk about Rapportive, it's one of our favorite extensions.

Jordan: Yeah so Rapportive is a Gmail Chrome extension, that syncs up with your LinkedIn

and Google Plus.

Anytime somebody emails you, it's going to scrape the web and pull in their information,

so you're able to quickly connect with people on LinkedIn.

I find I use it 99% of the time for LinkedIn.

Not much for Google Plus.

But you're quickly able to connect with people on LinkedIn, they give you a note saying "Rapportive

showed me your profile, let's connect", it's a great way to build LinkedIn connections.

And it's right within Gmail too, you just hit connect, so you don't have to actually

leave the platform which is great.

Justin: Yeah, as soon as you install it you never have to click anything again it's all

within Gmail.

Really easy to use.

The next one I want to talk about is BuiltWith.

What it does is, similar to Ghostery, when you're on other people's websites, if you

click the BuiltWith button, it'll tell you in what programming language that website

was built.

So it's super useful if you see a website that you think you might want to imitate.

On top of that, if you find out that the website is built with WordPress, you can go to WPThemedetector.com,

that's WPthemedetector.com, and that will tell you what theme the people used to build

in, so if you're trying to replicate something that someone else is doing, those are two

tools that are awesome, BuiltWith and, I'm going to say it again, WPThemedetector.com.

Next.

Jordan: The next one I want to talk about is Page Analytics, and this is a Chrome extension

that's actually done by Google.

It syncs up with your Google analytics, and when you go to your website you can turn it

on, and you can see where people are clicking on your website, where they're interacting

the most, and then you can make appropriate changes.

So if somebody is hitting the contact us button, but they're not hitting the about us, let's

move contact us to a better spot on the website.

So it's a great way to see how people are actually using your website, so you can make

the changes to make it more friendly for your users.

Justin: Right, great for analyzing what's going on.

The next one I'm going to talk about we're going to get a little meta here.

When you use email, there are programs you can use to track and see who's opening emails

that you're sending to.

If you want to go beyond that and see who's tracking emails that are sent to you, you

can use an extension called UglyEmail.

As soon as you install it, all it does is as soon as you get emails in your inbox, it

will tell you if someone is tracking that email to see if you've opened it.

So it puts you ahead of the game and back in the driver's seat so you don't always have

to worry about who's monitoring and opening your emails.

It's good to install and know who is tracking what they're sending you.

Jordan: And then the last one I want to talk about is Grammarly.

So for anyone who's a content marketer, blogger, copywriter, heck if you're writing stuff out

for Facebook, download Grammarly.

What it does is its like spellcheck on steroids.

It will go and spellcheck, but it will also correct your grammar, and provide you with

a lot of rules and context that I don't even know.

You write something out, your first draft, you can run Grammarly through it and learn,

"Oh, I have a redundant phrase."

Or, whatever the grammar rule is, it's really great for tightening up your writing.

Justin: And for me personally, finding unnecessary commas.

I did not know how many commas I was using until I installed Grammarly.

So it's a really good tool, you'll find out some stuff.

It actually goes a step further than a spellcheck in Microsoft Word, it really does go into

Grammar as they suggest in the title.

Jordan: And that's it guys those are the 6 or 7 or 8 Chrome extensions that we think

- Justin: 7

Jordan: All marketers should use.

Until next time, I'm Jordan.

Justin: I'm Justin.

Jordan: Take care.

Democrats Have Already Softened Their Opposition To Trump - Duration: 5:25.

A lot of progressives were upset earlier this week when Democratic Senator Sherrod Brown

and Elizabeth Warren voted in favor of Ben Carson becoming the Secretary of the Department

of Housing and Urban Development.

Now, according to Senator Brown's office, he had a private meeting with Ben Carson where

they realized that they're actually on the same page on a lot of issues including LGBT

issues, which Brown's office says that Carson wants to make sure there's no discrimination

in the housing process towards LGBT community.

However, keep in mind this is also a guy that says going to prison makes you gay, so I wouldn't

trust a single thing that this man says about LGBTQ issues.

Here's the problem, Democrats.

We have James Carville out there right now saying, "Look, the Democrats have to pick

their battles.

They can't just be against everything, because they're gonna to have to get Republicans to

work with them to oppose this guy."

First of all, that's not going to happen.

Okay?

The Republicans are not going to work with the Democrats because they control the House,

they control the Senate, they control the White House, they control the Supreme Court.

What possible benefit does the Republican Party get from going with the minority Democrats?

None.

Not going to happen.

Bad strategy, Carville.

Aren't you the one that just kind of lost Hillary's campaign for her?

Look, I have tremendous respect for James Carville.

I have tremendous respect for a couple Democrats, but it's over.

The days of just kind of being these lightweight pushovers who want to compromise on everything,

and "Oh, gee, we can't be seen as too obstructive.

[inaudible 00:01:55]" It's done.

Republicans obstructed President Obama and the entire Democratic Party for eight years.

Do you think the public was pissed off at them?

Do you?

Because they won the 2012 House races.

They won the 2014 mid-terms, and they won the 2016 election, House, Senate, everything,

by campaigning on that obstruction and telling their base, "We didn't let the people that

you don't agree with run this country into a hole."

That was their talking point, even though it's not anywhere based in reality.

President Obama was not going to run the country in a hole.

The Democrats were not going to do that.

That's what they used, and that's how they won.

You people are so stupid to sit there and think that the Democrats can't pull off the

same thing.

How detached from reality have you become?

Democratic advisors, Democratic strategists, and even progressive heroes like Sherrod Brown

and Elizabeth Warren, you're dead wrong on this issue and history proves it.

History proves it.

Look at the last three elections and you will see that you are wrong.

Republicans used images of other Republicans with President Obama shaking his hand.

They used that in primaries against their opponents and won.

Is that what strong progressive Democrats need to do with these other Democrats with

Donald Trump?

If we see you talking to him, should we take a picture and use it against you in a primary

campaign to get you out of office?

It worked for the Republicans.

It should work for the Democrats.

Maybe that's what we have to do to get you people to wake up.

Very few people in this country support Donald Trump's agenda.

That includes people who voted for Donald Trump.

They've already come out and said that they don't support this.

For you to come out on national TV, people like Carville, and David Brock who wants to

take over the Democratic Party, for you to come out and say that, "Oh, Democrats are

playing it safe.

They're playing it cool.

They're gonna go with 'em on this.

They're gonna go against 'em on this."

That is bull crap.

You can go against him on every issue and you're not going to be punished.

I promise you.

Because once the public sees exactly what this man is doing, they don't like it.

His poll numbers are still dropping, but you're supporting him.

You're going with him by letting some things fly.

Right?

I mean, maybe it's not a horrible, horrible, thing.

Maybe it's only horrible.

It's not going to cut it anymore.

The Democratic Party is full of idiots at this point.

They learned nothing from 2016.

They learned nothing from 2014.

They learned nothing from 2012.

They learned nothing from the Republican playbook for the last eight years.

They learned nothing during the George W. Bush Administration.

The Democratic Party is dead.

A Day We Were All Afraid Of: Immigrant Rights Activist Speaks Out After Trump Takes Executive Action - Duration: 11:40.

AMY GOODMAN: The War and Peace Report.

I'm Amy Goodman.

Wednesday marked the biggest single day of changes to U.S. immigration policy in recent

memory.

In a news conference at the Department of Homeland Security, President Trump announced

and signed two executive orders to begin construction on the border wall between U.S. and Mexico

and to crack down on those who cross it.

PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP: The secretary of homeland security, working with myself and my staff,

will begin immediate construction of a border wall.

So badly needed.

You folks know how badly needed it is, as a help, but very badly needed.

This will also help Mexico by deterring illegal immigration from Central America and by disrupting

violent cartel networks.

As I've said repeatedly to the country, we are going to get the bad ones out: the

criminals and the drug deals and gangs and gang members and cartel leaders.

The day is over when they can stay in our country and wreak havoc.

We are going to get them out, and we're going to get them out fast.

And John Kelly is going to lead that way.

AMY GOODMAN: The construction of the expanded wall is expected to cost tens of billions

of dollars.

It remains unclear how Trump's directive will pay for the project.

Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto vowed Wednesday night not to pay for the wall.

He's set to meet with Trump next week but may now cancel his trip.

Trump's directive also greatly increases the number of immigration enforcement personnel.

PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP: Our order also does the following: ends the policy of catch and

release at the border, requires other countries to take back their criminals—they will take

them back, cracks down on sanctuary cities, empowers ICE officers to target and remove

those who pose a threat to public safety, calls for the hiring of another 5,000 Border

Patrol officers, calls for the tripling the number of ICE officers.

AMY GOODMAN: The order also strips funding from so-called sanctuary cities.

But mayors across the country, including those in New York, Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles,

say they'll continue to allow police officers to refuse to arrest and detain undocumented

immigrants on behalf of federal authorities.

For more, we're going to Washington, D.C., where we're joined by Erika Andiola, a nationally

known immigrant activist who served as a spokesperson for Bernie Sanders, helped him craft immigration

policy.

She's the political director for Our Revolution, recently spoke at the Women's March on D.C.

She is a DACA recipient, or DREAMer, who grew up in Arizona.

In 2013, her house was raided.

Immigration agents picked up her mother and her brother.

Welcome back to Democracy Now!, Erika.

Can you, overall, respond to this historic day yesterday?

More changes to immigration policy in one day than we have ever seen.

ERIKA ANDIOLA: Absolutely.

Well, first off, thank you for having me.

And yesterday was definitely a day that all of us were afraid was going to happen.

There was several changes that, you know, have been, basically, horrifying for our communities.

And we're—you know, I think, for a lot of us in the immigrant rights movement and

the progressive movement, we're still—you know, we're trying to figure out what's

the best way to resist this, but also making sure that we're starting the organizing

on the ground to make sure that our people are ready for this.

AMY GOODMAN: So, let's take each—each executive order that President Trump has laid

out.

Start with what concerns you most, Erika.

ERIKA ANDIOLA: You know, I think most of the points that he touched on yesterday concern

me a lot.

I think, for us, you know, one of the—at least for myself—I'm from Arizona, so

I have seen what it is to use the police, to use local law enforcement, to basically

cooperate with ICE, and not only that, but to make sure that, you know, you increase

the number of people that end up in deportation proceedings or deported.

And what he did yesterday, basically, you know, makes that so much easier and makes

Arizona sort of a national—at the national level.

And so, you know, I think we need to make sure that we are ready in all fronts.

You know, I think, for many of us, it is our responsibility—

AMY GOODMAN: Well—

ERIKA ANDIOLA: —to make sure—

AMY GOODMAN: Well, let me go to President Trump's plans for DACA, or the Deferred

Action on Childhood [Arrivals], which has provided temporary deportation relief and

work authorization to almost 800,000 young people.

Democracy Now!

spoke to a DACA recipient last night in New York during a rally against Trump's new

orders.

CESAR VARGAS: My name is Cesar Vargas.

I'm the co-director of the DREAM Action Coalition.

And I'm also undocumented.

For myself, I am here because this directly impacts me and my mother, who's also undocumented.

And we could be subject to deportation.

But at the same time, I'm here to elevate my voice, to show my faith, that we're not

afraid, that we're not going to let fear dictate what we do in the next four years,

and we're not going to let Trump's ego or his Twitter account really target us.

One of his executive actions is ending DACA, the President Obama's deportation relief

program.

And I could lose my driver's license.

I could lose my home.

I could lose my work authorization and my law license as New York's first undocumented

attorney.

So, there's a lot at stake, which is why we're here, because we're fighting because

there is a lot at stake.

AMY GOODMAN: With the loss of deferred action status, DACA recipients revert to being undocumented.

But unlike most undocumented immigrants, the government knows exactly who they are and

where they live.

Erika Andiola, you're a DACA recipient.

So, talk about what is going to happen.

It is not clear yet what happens to DACA folks.

ERIKA ANDIOLA: Yeah, yeah.

And our understanding is that, you know, it was one of his promises, that he would end

the program.

We know that there is internal pushback.

There's some, you know, people within the administration that want to make sure that

he moves forward with getting rid of the program.

There's other people within the administration and other Republicans who are telling him

not to do it.

We don't know what's going to happen.

There's also—you know, I think right now there's a lot of uncertainty of how it would

happen, whether—as my example, is my DACA expires in February, so literally a month

from now.

So, they could wait until that expires, not give—you know, make sure that doesn't

get renewed.

We could leave some—they could leave some people with DACA.

Or they could literally say, "You can no longer work.

You need to give back the work permits."

We don't know exactly how it's going to work, but it's definitely concerning to

a lot of people, given that, you know, it is a program that has helped—not only helped

DACA recipients, but it has given so much back to the country.

And so, we're hoping that he makes the right decision, that the GOP and those folks that

are a lot more moderate, that know exactly what DREAMers have contributed to this country,

you know, convince him not to do this, which would be devastating for a lot of our community

members.

AMY GOODMAN: I want to ask you about President Trump's plans to expand the border wall.

His pick to head homeland security secretary, retired General John Kelly, was skeptical

of the effectiveness of a border wall during his confirmation hearing earlier this month.

JOHN KELLY: A physical barrier, in and of itself—certainly, as a military person that

understands defense and defenses, a physical barrier, in and of itself, will not do the

job.

It has to be really a layered defense.

If you were to build a wall from the Pacific to the Gulf of Mexico, you'd still have

to back that wall up with patrolling by human beings, by sensors, by observation devices.

So, analysts say Trump's plans for a border wall could still face several

challenges, including lawsuits from landowners, as well as environmental and engineering obstacles.

The Government Accountability Office estimates the cost of building a single-layer fence

along the nearly 2,000-mile border with Mexico would the $6.5 million per mile, plus an additional

$4.2 million per mile for roads and more fencing.

This doesn't include maintenance of the fence.

Some experts put the total cost of Trump's border wall at $14 billion.

Over the last decade, the U.S. has already installed 700 miles of fencing, tens of thousands

of motion sensors, as well as spy towers, radar systems, Predator surveillance drones,

thousands of law enforcement agents along the U.S.-Mexico border.

So, can you respond to this, Erika?

Yeah, I mean, first of all, you know, the border has—is the most secured

border than any time in history, per GOP's wishes or the people who have been advocating

for a secure border.

But the fact is that it's not—it's not going to change the lot.

And the reality is that if he wants to waste taxpayer dollars, if he wants to go to Congress

and ask for more money to build this wall, it's not going to do much in terms of immigration

policy.

The reality is, this is bigger than a wall.

The reality is that people are coming from other countries because they have a necessity

to do so.

And the fact is that we haven't even dealt with what is happening here in the U.S. with

the undocumented community.

And so, you know, for me, it's definitely not worth building this wall for millions

of reasons.

And, you know, we're hoping that when this goes to Congress, that our elected officials

and our leaders decide the right thing and, again, like I said, not waste people's money

on something that's not going to work.

Erika, I want to ask—after Trump issued his order to strip funding from

cities that shield undocumented immigrants, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio echoed

mayors across the country in saying he would not allow police officers to be used as immigration

enforcement agents.

This is what he said.

MAYOR BILL DE BLASIO: We will not deport law-abiding New Yorkers.

We will not tear families apart.

We will not leave children without their parents.

We will not take breadwinners away from families who have no one else.

And we're not going to undermine the hard-won trust that has developed between our police

and our communities.

This executive order is very vague.

And our corporation counsel, Zach Carter, is here, former U.S. attorney earlier in his

life, and made very clear to me today that if any action is taken as a result to restrict

our funding, at that point we will bring legal action to stop it.

AMY GOODMAN: So that's the New York Mayor Bill de Blasio.

Erika Andiola, we just have five seconds, but sanctuary cities and states, like California?

Absolutely.

So this is a time for the sanctuary cities all over the country and other cities to step

up, progressive cities, and protect our community members.

California is leading the charge.

SB 54 is going to do that.

We're hoping that California actually passes the bill and that it spreads across the country

to protect our communities.

AMY GOODMAN: Erika Andiola, I want to thank you very much for being with us, a political

director for Our Revolution.

I'll be speaking tomorrow, Friday, at 1:00 p.m. at Dolly's Bookstore here in Park City.

Jeep Wrangler Off Camber Fabrications by MBRP Light Bar/Grille Guard (2007-2017 JK) Review & Install - Duration: 5:35.

I'm Ryan from extremeterrain.com and this is my review and installation of the Off Camber

Fabrications by MBRP Front Light Bar and Grille Guard System fitting all 2007 and up Wranglers.

Today we're gonna talk through the installation of this light bar, which is a very simple

one out of three wrenches.

It's designed to bolt directly onto your Jeep, although there is a small amount of disassembly

you'll need to do in order to get all of the brackets installed.

Then we're also going to talk through the construction and a few of the other features

of the light bar.

This is for those of you who aren't ready to upgrade to a full aftermarket front bumper

but are looking for a way to change up the look of the front of your Jeep as well as

to add some auxiliary light mounting points.

This is going to do a really nice job of changing the look of the front of your Jeep while still

retaining that factory plastic front bumper, which helps to keep the cost down.

If you pair this light bar and grille guard system with, maybe, a winch plate that goes

on top of your factory front bumper and some stubby front bumper ends, you can end up with

a bumper that looks aftermarket even though it's based off of that factory front bumper,

and it'll be significantly less expensive than purchasing a full aftermarket front bumper.

As far as construction goes, this is going to be a piece of steel tubing that does have

your light mounting tabs welded right onto it.

And these are really heavy-duty light mount tabs.

I mean, they're not going to be holding a lot of weight, but these things are thick,

they're really bulky, and they are welded directly in place so they're gonna be nice

and strong for you.

This also comes with all of the brackets, of course, that are necessary to get it mounted.

MBRP offers a version of this grille guard and light mounted hoop for the Off Camber

Fabrication line of front bumpers.

This one is specifically designed to work with your factory front bumper so all of the

brackets that are included allow this to be mounted with that factory front bumper in

place.

Something I really like about this setup is that it is predrilled with rubber grommets

to run all of the wiring for whatever lights you might mount on those light mount tabs.

You'll be able to run them right through the grommets inside of your tubing, down out through

the bottom here, and very cleanly and easily hide all of your wiring for a really clean

install.

Now, for those of you with a 2012 and up JK, you are going to need a vacuum pump relocation

kit in order to install this on your Jeep.

The brackets that go behind the bumper to install this grille guard light bar combination

do interfere with that factory vacuum pump location, so you are going to need a relocation

kit.

As I said before, I am gonna give this a one out of three wrenches for the installation.

It is a bolt-on piece, although it does require a little bit of disassembly in order to get

all of the brackets in place.

The first thing you'll need to remove is your splash guard if you're still running one.

I know a lot of you guys that go off-roading in deep mud or have backed up in deep snow

will have their splash guard removed for them, but if you still have yours in place, the

first step is removing that.

You'll also have to remove the frame cover that covers the space between the bumper and

the grille.

And finally, you'll have to remove the grille by popping the six plastic clips across the

top and then giving it a good pull.

Once you have those three plastic pieces removed, you can install the brackets that go on the

frame horns of your Wrangler.

And finally, install the other half of the brackets onto the light bar and grille guard.

Then it's simply a matter of putting the light bar grille guard onto the new brackets that

you've already installed on the Jeep and attaching it with the included hardware.

From there you can go ahead and wire up whatever lights you might wanna add, or if you're not

adding any lights, you're done.

This whole process will probably take you a little bit over an hour to complete by the

time you get all of the plastic removed, all the brackets installed, and the plastic reinstalled

again, but you're not gonna need any specialty tools, just some traditional hand tools.

However, having a trim removal tool handy will make popping a lot of those plastic clips

a little bit easier.

When you look at this light bar and grille guard system

and you look at the price tag, you might think that's a little bit expensive for just some round tubing.

However, when you consider the drastic impact this is going to have on the front of your Jeep, the easy

bolt on installation, the fact that you have these two light mount tabs

where you can very easily run all of your wiring internal of the mount

And when you consider the alternative of purchasing a whole new front bumper

and the expense involved with that, all of a sudden this becomes a little bit more manageable.

So if you're looking to add a grille guard with light mounts on to the front of your Jeep

to completely change up the look of your Wrangler

without having to buy a full aftermarket front bumper

I think that this is a nice option.

At first look this may seem a little bit expensive

but when you compare it to the alternative

of purchasing a brand new bumper and when you look at the quality of the build

I think this is a going to be a really nice option for a lot of you.

So, that's my review of the Off Camber Fabrications by MBRP

front grille guard and light bar system fitting all 2007 and up Wranglers

with a factory front bumper that you can find right here at extremeterrain.com

Spencer O'Brien and her "full-on snowboard legs" | CBC Sports - Duration: 1:26.

I remember when I was 18, and it was, like, super cool

to, like, actually be so skinny that you looked like a skeleton.

And it's kind of nice to be an athlete because you are removed from that.

You can't be, like, "Oh, I want to be super, super skinny."

Because if you're that skinny, you're probably not going to be able to do your sport very well.

Yeah, I mean, I'm like any woman.

I have insecurities.

There's parts of my body that I hate,

that I wish I could change.

Sometimes you think, like,

"I spend, like, five hours of my day simply working out.

Why do I not look perfect?"

But at the end of the day, every muscle on my body, and even every imperfection, has

a purpose.

It makes me better at what I do.

My legs are big, and they're powerful, and

maybe they don't look the greatest in a pair of jean shorts

or a skirt, but they look really good on a snowboard.

Because it means I can stand up and land

deeper than most people.

My quads...

they're real big, and they're really defined.

It's just, like, full-on snowboard legs.

It's super funny, there's just, like, this one muscle on my quad

that comes off my knee and, like, up the side.

Since grade eight, it's been like that.

My legs are my favourite part of my body,

especially because they make me be able to snowboard,

which is great. I like to do that.

Lunar New Year 2017 Saturday, January 28 Google Doodle| 2017 Chinese New Year Festival Celebration - Duration: 5:19.

Today's Doodle celebrates Lunar New Year 2017 (Hong Kong, Taiwan, China)

With firecrackers, fried dumplings, and Fai Chun, today's Doodle welcomes the year of

the rooster.

A time of celebration with family and friends, Lunar New Year falls on the first new moon

between January 21 and February 20 each year.

While this means the date is always changing, the traditions surrounding the holiday have

long been the same.

Leading up to it, families often clean their homes to push out bad luck and make room for

good fortune.

Once New Year's Eve arrives, loved ones come together for a reunion dinner where poon

choi – a large dish packed with meat, fish, and vegetables – is often shared.

On New Year's Day, red decor and envelopes abound, while lion dancers, paper lanterns,

and fireworks fill the streets.

Legend has it that many of these traditions stem from fending off the Nian, a mythical

beast that would attack an ancient village each New Year's Day.

With the help of a mysterious old man, villagers soon learned that the creature was afraid

of the color red, as well as loud noises — and so the festivities began.

Although the Nian never did return, luckily the celebrations did.

Here's to health, happiness, and good fortune in the new year!

For Chinese, in China and in ethnic communities around the world, the lunar new year is the

most important and most festive holiday of the year.

Through centuries of China's agrarian tradition, this was the one period when farmers could

rest from their work in the fields.

Family members from near and far would travel to be with loved ones in time to usher out

the old year and welcome in the new, with great celebratory flourish.

With a calendar dating from the third millennium BCE, the Chinese people have for thousands

of years been building on ancient customs of New Year celebrations.

Although they may vary from region to region, village to village, and even family to family

according to social position, many of these customs are still observed.

Today, all over China, during what is now commonly referred to as the Spring Festival,

passenger trains, buses, and river boats are packed with holiday travelers; shops do a

flurry of business selling gifts, new clothes, and festive foods; kitchens are bustling with

preparations for elaborate feasts; and streets are filled with the sounds of firecrackers

and seasonal greetings.

Today's Doodle pays homage to Lunar New Year 2017 (Hong Kong, Taiwan, China)
