I'm Ryan from extremeterrain.com, and this is my review and installation of the Mopar
CB Antenna Mount Kit with Jeep Logo Antenna, fitting all 2007 and up JKs.
Today we're gonna talk through the installation of this setup, which is a very simple one
out of three wrenches, as well as a few of the features.
If you're going to be running a CB setup on your Jeep, you are going to need a CB antenna
and mount setup.
And what that really includes is the mount itself, the wire, the couplers, and the antenna.
So there are quite a few pieces to gather together.
This kit puts all of those pieces in one convenient package for you, which is a really nice feature.
Now the fact that this is Jeep branded really just means it says Jeep on the tip of the
antenna, on the tip cover here.
Which isn't a ton of branding, but if you like that sort of thing, it's certainly there,
and it's not something that a lot of other antennas are going to have.
Generally when you see a Jeep logo on something, you are going to pay a little bit of a premium
for it, but in my opinion, this is actually a fair price for this setup.
But it's only a fair price because of all the pieces that you get.
It's not necessarily a reflection of the quality of the pieces.
This antenna, while it is tuneable, is not my favorite style of antenna because you do
have to unwrap and cut the wire at the tip of the antenna, which is not a reversible
process, in order to get it tuned.
I much prefer a CB antenna that has a screw and a jam nut on top of it to adjust the length.
It's much easier to tune the antenna.
This also says that it is tuned exclusively for the Jeep JK.
And while I don't doubt that this is tuned out of the factory, it's always a good idea,
and in fact, when you install your CB radio they'll probably tell you not even to use
it until you tune your specific antenna to your specific setup.
And that will change depending on a million different variables, so the tune that they
give you with the antenna you are going to have to alter it to get optimum usage out
of your CB anyway.
So I wouldn't put too much weight behind the fact that this is exclusively tuned for JK.
So as I said this is all the parts that you're going to need to get your CB working right
out of the box all in one place, which is a nice feature.
You have an aluminum mount that is designed to go directly on to your spare tire mount.
So as long as you're still running a factory spare tire, or you have enough room between
your tailgate and your tub mounted, or bumper mounted spare tire carrier, you can run a
setup like this.
And this will go directly into the factory holes using the factory hardware, so you don't
have to worry about drilling anything to get this mounted.
It also comes with the connector and the stud, as well as 18 feet of coax cable that will
run directly up into your CB radio.
As we said before, it also includes this antenna, which is a roughly three-foot-long antenna.
It is tuneable, but it is a little bit more difficult to tune because you do have to do
some cutting.
And the Jeep logo, of course, is at the tip of the antenna.
So to get this setup installed is a very simple one out of three wrenches.
All you need to do is remove two of the bolts that hold the spare tire mount on to your
tailgate, hold the bracket in place, and reinstall those factory bolts in their factory holes.
After that, it's just a matter of screwing the antenna in place and running your cable
up to where your CB radio is mounted.
From there you are going to want to use a short wave radio tuner to get everything dialed
in and tune your antenna.
The actual installation of this shouldn't take you more than a half an hour, but tuning
can take a little bit more time depending on how carefully you wanna do it.
As I mentioned, generally when you're purchasing something that has the Jeep logo on it, you're
paying a premium just for that logo.
In this case, I don't feel like that's necessarily the case.
I think for all of the components that you get here, the number of components, and for
the ease of installation, having everything in one box, this is a pretty fair price.
However, if I were piecing together a antenna and wire, and mount system for my JK, I would
definitely swap out this antenna for one that is easier to tune, even if it costs a little
bit more money.
So if you're looking for a CB antenna and mount setup that out of the box has all of
the components you're going to need, and has the Jeep branding, this is certainly an option.
If you are going to be tuning your CB antenna as you should be to get optimal use out of
your CB system, this antenna is going to be a little bit more difficult to tune than some
of the other ones on the market.
So that's my review of the Mopar CB Antenna Mounting Kit with Jeep Logo Antenna, fitting
all 2007 and up JKs that you can find right here at extremeterrain.com.
