Hello and welcome to this fire and rain sleep meditation
In this meditation we'll slow our body and mind ready for sleep

And dedicate it to you It often can take some time to settle in
And so I want to give you as much time as you need
If you need to set your alarm now is a good time to do that
You'll be able to rest more easily knowing that you've already that's done
If you need a pad and pen next to your bed So that you can jot down any thoughts that
come to you that might otherwise keep you up
Find them and get them ready If you don't have them nearby
And are feeling tired and just want to get to sleep
That's ok too You can organise them tomorrow so that you've
got them ready for tomorrow night If you use a sleep tracker
Make sure to turn that on now If there are any lights in your bedroom
Like the red glow from a tv on standby Or the alarm clock
See if you can easily cover them with a pillow Or turn the alarm around the other direction
So that you won't be tempted to constantly keep checking the time
And beating yourself up if you aren't asleep by a certain time
Make sure you are comfortable in your bed That your pajamas or bed clothes aren't
scrunched up under your arm pits Around your shoulders
Or riding up your legs Or around your rib cage
Get your pillow just right Settle in
For what will be A wondrously gentle
And deeply refreshing night's sleep And when you've finally stopped fussing
about And can just lie here listening to the sound
of my voice You begin to relax
And let go a little Releasing the tension
You notice how quickly everything becomes so still
And you are left in wonder At how when you just take a moment
And stop to reflect Just how busy your mind has been all day
And like a parting of the clouds to reveal the sun
You come to understand and be a witness to Just how much of your energy is spent in powering
the constant whirring of your mind
In this peaceful state Letting your body release the tension
It's a great opportunity to spend some time Just noticing how good it feels to be separate
from the stress and strain The anxiety
The worry That's been building up in you
Even for just the short time that you've experienced so far while you listen to my
voice Instead of anxiety you feel an ease
Replacing the worry is a confidence That you are ok
That everything will be ok And all you need to do right now
Is let these thoughts drift away Drift away on the clouds
Each cloud outside your window is there to carry away your worries
So gently These clouds so light and fluffy
Can at the same time only hold so much water Our minds too have been holding so much weight
So much anxiety and stress Now you can let the clouds help you
Let them take away your anxiety Your stress x
And as they begin to hold all your worries Something has to give
You notice a few rain drops start to fall Hitting the outside of your window
And then slowly as you begin to give over more
And more of your worries and fears The rain begins to fall
Maybe in the past you've been frustrated by the rain
Or seen the rain as gloomy But now
When in your day it begins to rain I want you to think of this as the clouds
accepting more And more of your worries
And anxiety So that you don't have to
And smile Others around you may not understand why you
are smiling at the rain It will be your own personal joke
As you lie in your bed You breathe in
And as you breathe out A gentle soothing energy
Surrounds you As you breathe in again
You feel the positive energy Absorbed into your body
You feel the tension melt away even more Your body lighter
No longer carrying the heavy burden of your day x
Now that your body And mind
Are becoming more, and more relaxed You are now ready to dream
Not a day dream You're closer to the edge of sleep
You can feel it coming closer and closer This visualisation may indeed follow you into
your dreams With your eyes closed
Before you feel anything else You know you are in a safe place
There is darkness all around Your senses reach out wanting to know more
And in the total darkness You hear a sound
The gentle continuous sounds of a fire crackling in the distance
The fire has always been one of your favourite sounds
And it brings in you an inner peace You begin to feel more sleepy
More at ease The crackle and pop
Bring with it a form of assurance Of relaxation
That everything in the world is one with nature And at peace
In the distance You begin to see something appear
First as a small speck of light Then as a waving orange hue
Then as you get closer You can make out the different colours
Yellows, oranges, reds You get closer even still
You begin to see the sparks that fly as the burning wood crackles and pops
It feels like you're coming home Safe
These feelings also bring in you a deeper sense of relaxation
This relaxation in turn becomes a sleepiness A relief also washes over you
As you're often searching Almost pushing or yearning for this feeling
When tiredness gives way to sleepiness
You get closer still to the flames And as you do you can feel the warmth emanating
from the fire You put your hands out
Stretching towards the warmth Your skin welcomes the heat
You sit down in a comfortable chair near the fire
It's an old chair But it fits your body perfectly
As you stare into the flames Your eyes begin to lose focus
Still staring All you see is the blurred colours
Yellows and reds Against the black backdrop
Your vision blurs further and further as if you are looking back in time
Your gaze has turned into a trance Your eyelids begin to water
They are also getting heavier And heavier
There's a small crackle in the fire It's not enough to scare you
But it brings your eyes and mind back into focus x
The direction of the wind changes And with it the smoke from the fire now drifts
in your direction Blinking a few times
It makes your eyes water slightly And as you blink away the smoke
Tears roll down your cheek In this moment you're amazed at how the
human body works With a disturbance it went into autopilot
to protect one of it's most important assets Your eyes
You didn't need to think about what to do And before you knew it the trouble had passed
And your body ensured You'd have another chance again one day
To look at the beauty and become enchanted by the irregular heart beat of the flames
Crying those few tears Has made you a little more sleepy
And barely able to stay awake You're consciousness returns to your bed
A connection still exists between you and the world you visited
You can still hear the fire Crackling
Fizzing Popping
The rain Absent during your journey to the flames
Begins an upswell The gentle and consistent
Rhythm of the rain And the unpredictable
Uncontrollable Nature of the flame
The ying and yang Balance you
Bringing you to a further state of relaxation Of connection with your body
You drift Letting go of your body
Letting it fall into sleep
