Hi everyone. I'm David Sornberger and on this week's video I'm looking at
YouTubers who are dedicating their time to photographers and to videographers.
There are hundreds of channels out there that are dedicated to helping us perfect
our craft as photographers and videographers. When I first signed up for
YouTube several years ago, I think I only had about five or ten people or five or
ten channels I subscribed to. I didn't realize how many I actually subscribed to
until a few days ago and well over three hundred. I don't know where that stands
for a lot of you out there. Maybe you have a lot more. Maybe you've refined or
focused yours down to something more manageable. I find that
YouTube have such an array of videos out there for for supporting people like you
and me so I put together a video. I put together the top ten who I thought in
no particular order of bloggers, of vloggers, landscape photographers, people
into wedding, into fashion, into portrait photography. Some of these vloggers and
bloggers are more entertaining like Kai who you'll see a little snippet
of in a few minutes. You have other people like Canadian Peter McKinnon who
is absolutely amazing. He's went from no subscribers to, I think, something crazy
like a million subscribers within about nine months or a year something
something crazy like that. TYou have other people who are into portrait fashion and
wedding photography like Jason Lanear and several others. Like I said, I'm going to
present these YouTubers in no particular order but what I would like to say is
that each of these YouTubers have three things in common. Number one - content
matters even if the person doesn't necessarily have great editing abilities
and I think in these ten each one of them do. They're absolutely fantastic
but content matters. Storytelling matters and that brings me to my second point - is
that not only does - is their content solid but they seem to present it in a
way that's kind of entertaining and usually kind of funny and they're very
relatable. And the third point is that each of these photographers, each of
these vloggers have amazing street cred. They've got lots of experience in the
field ad they're able to draw that experience into their
videos and it really brings it to life. So, without further ado, let's get to the list.
Canadian Peter McKinnon posts some really easy to follow and fun Photoshop and
Lightroom videos on his channel. He gives tips about new gear and on retouching
techniques and in one video he even shows how to make objects float in your
photos. The wide variety of topics MacKinnon tackles in his tutorials
illuminate essential skills every photographer should hone. Peter
McKinnon's channel is relatively new on the scene. On his channel he describes
himself as "I teach things about photography and cinematography. Oh, I also
vlog and drink lots of coffee." His videos are very informative and entertaining to
watch but what always seems to stand out in his videos are their cinematic
quality. Each video is a short story. He's a master storyteller and I think that's
why he has gained such popularity. What's up everybody? Peter MacKinnon here and
welcome back to yet another two minute Tuesday. It's so great to have you here
and see all of your smiling faces. One of the genres of photography that I find
the most stunning is landscape photography. Thomas Heaton has a special
way of making the viewer feel as if they are in the landscape themselves. This is
what Thomas Heaton accomplishes with his photography skills and his mission
behind his tutorials is to get you to that level too. His breathtaking shots of
exotic and remote locations in his portfolio would inspire anyone to grab
their camera, go outside and start shooting.
Irene Rudnick is a young and innovative photographer from Calgary, Canada. Her
channel is a great starting point for all photo enthusiasts out there. She
takes a very practical step-by-step approach with each of her videos and she
gives you a behind-the-scenes look into her photo shoots, shows you Photoshop
tips and she always creates exquisite DIY crafts. Irene debunks the myth that
portrait and fashion photographers always need an elaborate and expensive
lighting setup. She shows her viewers that it's possible to produce great
results in an outdoor setting with natural light just streaming in through
the window.
And I'm also trying to just show you guys what works so you don't
have to watch a 40-minute video to figure out whether or not this would
work for you. Jason Lanier is an award-winning photographer who I highly
recommend you need to follow. He is an award-winning wedding, portrait, landscape,
wildlife and photojournalism photographer. So, right now we're shooting
at magic hour. This is golden hour. Let's take a walk over here real
quick. His YouTube channel takes you on some of his photo shoots as he shows you
the type of gear he uses and gives you access to super helpful workshops. Jason
is an accomplished speaker and presenter in the photography industry as well as a
Sony Artisan of Imagery and Rotolight Master of Light who also teaches
photographers how to pursue their dreams and master their photography. h
Hello everyone and welcome to Weekly Imogen. Weekly Imogen is another great YouTuber
channel for new photographers. The channel guides you through helpful photo
shoot tips for those who are just starting out. A wide variety of
techniques are covered, like how to put a model at ease, using a reflector which
lends us to use lighting techniques and using props in your photography.
So, here we are in the freezing cold and it's snowing. If you're familiar with the photography
vlogging community on YouTube, you have probably heard of Kaiman Wong or Kai W.
He was the face of DigitalRev for seven years until he struck out on his own a
little over a year ago. Kai's vibrant personality is way more than just
entertaining. He's laugh-out-loud funny but at
the heart of each of his videos is solid content that photographers at any skill
level would find valuable. He focuses mainly on gear and he's very passionate
about his reviews. I think a lot of people find his style appealing because
he doesn't censor himself and he definitely wouldn't recommend a product
that he wouldn't use himself.
Okay, hold this for me. I'll let you know. Now, you want to be super careful. Two hands and don't drop it when you hear
how much it costs. Matt Granger is a professional photographer and
teacher from Australia. Matt mainly reviews gears on his YouTube channel
like cameras, lenses, drones and other products. His channel is also a good one
to check out to find out about different competitions and freebies. Matt also
provides various how-to videos for shooting a variety of subjects.
Ted Forbes' YouTube channel is brimming with passion for all things photography.
On his channel you'll find an artist series chronicling famous photographers,
a series of videos covering the history of photography and invaluable tips and
tricks from Forbes himself. His videos range from camera and lens reviews to
lessons from some of the world's best photographers. Ted updates his channel
weekly to provide a 360 degree look into the world of making images. He pushes
beyond photography basics and elevates viewers' knowledge of photography. The
history of photography and composition techniques.
Hey guys! Welcome back to my channel. Kayleigh June is only 24 years
old and she has made a name for herself as one to watch as an up-and-coming
fashion and portrait photographer. She goes beyond the typical photography
tutorials and has created a series on her channel called The Business of
Photography in which June breaks down how to start a photography business and
how to manage your time professionally. A travel photography blog that I highly
recommend that you visit is by professional photographer Brendan van Son.
His channel gives you a behind-the-scenes look into the day in
the life of a travel photographer. Mostly vlog style, always photography related.
Literally all I have is the 16 to 35. No tripod. Brendan is from a small
town in Canada called Rocky Mountain House. His travel photography and
adventure travel vlog is an amazing channel for learning photography for
anyone at any level. His adventures have taken him around the world and his work
has been in a number of major publications, such as The Guardian and
his travels themselves have also been featured in various major media outlets
such as the BBC, National Geographic Traveler and others. Like I said in the
introduction, I chose those 10 YouTubers and put them out to you in no
particular order. Those are just 10 YouTubers who who I find have amazing
content, they have a lot of experience and street cred and they're kind of
funny and entertaining to watch and listen to as well. Is there a vlogger out
