This is Dr Don Ibbitson, and I'm here with my colleague and coworker after Phyllis Tarbox,
a fellowship.
It's raining outside.
I hope he can hope it doesn't rain on the window going over the years.
Drown out the sound here, but today we want to take a look at the biblical directive about
binding demonic spirits.
We're going to talk about what that is and what the benefits are to us and why it's important
for believers to do that.
And also quite important.
Well, how do you do it?
How do you bind up demonic spirits?
We've been doing a series of podcasts now about different aspects of deliverance ministry
and spiritual warfare.
We've talked about the nature of the demonic realm and given some kind of an overview on,
on, on different topics, including deliverance ministry.
When we've talked about driving out spirits, we've talked about discerning spirits.
You know, you can't fight what you can't see are operating that spiritual gift of discernment
and, um, we will also have even doing more about how to resist spirits, about submitting
to God, resisting the demons, and they will flee from you.
Now, today we're going to talk about, as I mentioned that aspect of Barney payments,
but before we get into that, I just want to add a quick note here and encouragement for

But let's move right now into the, uh, the meeting of this podcast, which is about the
binding demonic spirits.
Phyllis, what does it mean to bind demonic spirits?
Well, finding it means we're going to be taking away its authority to operate at least from
for a season.
You know, we're gonna we can.
We've been given the keys to the kingdom.
It tells us in Matthew 16:19, where Jesus gave us authority to bind to that which has
been bound in heaven and Luis, that which has been loosed in heaven, and so we have
that authority to do that.
As believers, we can take authority over the demonic realm and stop their activity and
that's what binding does.
It shuts them down for a period of time
in this realm of spiritual warfare and dealing with demonic spirits.
Of course some people are, we are going to wonder about that, the need for that.
But we've talked about that these demonic spirits are actively at work in the world
today.
Um, they are.
I'm here to kill, steal, and, and that.
It's very important that one of the things that we do have in addition to driving them
out is this notion of binding up the demonic spirits.
So why do we, why do we want to bind them?
First of all, why do we get and what are the benefits from binding up demonic spirits?
You're eliminating the torment in in certain circumstances, whether it's at work or at
home or even in your children or coworkers or just in the general atmosphere.
You're, you're binding up that demonic activity so it can't take authority of to torment and
then of course you lose what you want to see the fruits of the Holy Spirit so that you
do have love and joy and peace in that particular place.
So that's different than driving out spirits.
We've talked about driving him out and and, and like I say, the scripture of basis that
we look at is Matthew 16:19 about Jesus and the word picture that, that we, we like to
use for people that were binding up to body spirits is like putting spiritual handcuffs
on spirit.
You know, you're making that spirit inactive for a season and you do it by faith and we
believe in it's bound and when it's bound in that spirit you see as not going to be
active in our calling, the spirit out of the person.
You're buying it up.
And so you had an example of that happened.
Mission trips.
We were on a mission trip when we all went to the Barbados.
Um, we had gotten one afternoon, we were able to have a nice lunch at a pretty nice restaurant
that overlooked part of the city and while we were there having lunch, there was this
man who was running crazy in the streets and he was screaming at the top of his lungs.
Now I don't know this person and, and, but I could tell that he was tormented by a spirit
of probably insanity or mental illness.
So as we sat there having lunch and didn't want to have to listen to this going on the
entire time.
So I started to bind up all spirits that were manifesting in that man.
Um, and I spoke out a spirit of mental illness and insanity and I bounded up in the name
and blood of Jesus Christ and then I loosed piece on him and he's the Holy Spirit are
listed on him.
And then he just stopped.
It was like instantaneous.
He just stopped now.
Space.
No, I was way up on a balcony overlooking the city, but he was in the street.
He couldn't hear me but, but it, but it only stayed bound for length of time because depending
on the will of the person and the strength of that spirit, you know, I will tell youYOu
cathat I had to do it again before lunch was over, but it worked again.
You can see a change.
He quit.
He quit doing that.
We had a nice lunch, a nice lunch for lasted as long as it lasts.
And I think that's pretty much what we see that people always ask.
Well, how long, how long is binding glass and say, well, it lasts as long as it lasts
because everybody that you pray for does have a free will.
Right?
Right.
And you're losing the Holy Spirit upon them.
And um, I know from talking to some of years of doing this than I have had people come
in with their own stories of binding and losing.
And you talked about the experience of our bales.
I've had a teacher telling me one time who was familiar with this concept even before
she got to our counseling center here.
And while she was driving in in the morning to work, she had, she was teaching kids highs
and I forget the age group, they were pretty rambunctious.
I wonder if they're middle schoolers and uh, that just, you know, just these kids came
from, it's very difficult backgrounds, but she recognized a lot of things you were dealing
with were spiritual.
And she was driving in in the morning, she would just start praying in the name of Jesus.
I bind up every demonic spirit that's tormenting my children.
I bind up that spirit of sarcasm and rage and Joe and I bind up that spirit of fear
and gossip and Mary, she was just kind of do these things in her head because we can
do the person at once again, not to have them on her own writing in, in the morning.
And then she would say, Lord, and I loose your Holy Spirit upon these children.
I loose your holy spirit over the classroom.
Or I even thank you for warring angels there that would just do a cleansing over that place.
Move out whatever, all the spirits that are in the classroom, Lord.
And Lose Your Holy Spirit upon each child, like you talked about, buying the solution,
the Holy Spirit.
And you know, she said it made a huge difference in the day she didn't do it.
Sometimes she would notice, man, I did not do this and you know, wasn't doing deliverance
on those kids, but she was binding them up, making them inactive for a season while they
were there for the most part.
And then, uh, of course, every day she had to do with a hand again because the kids would
come back.
So that's a good story because I recognize that.
I mean, I remember driving home from work several, several times during the summers.
My daughters had summers off, you know, teenage daughters at home at the end of the summer.
They start getting on each other's last nerve and I would bind up a lot of things before
I would walk into the house and get hit with it.
Um, and so I could walk into a house that was full of peace.
So yes, that binding and lucy's suffered from that too.
Yes, yes.
You know, and this concept of binding and losing it works.
That's why we're sharing, but that answers why we want to do it because it does make
this the spirit inactive first season.
God can be demons are bound.
If you liking these spiritual handcuffs, God can be speaking to right to them and so that's
part of why we wanted to do it.
It is a spiritual weapon that we have.
Now, the next question is it people as well who?
You touched on it a little bit, but probably worth elaborating.
What?
Who can bind up demons and how do you do y?
W, how do you, how do we.
How do you do it?
Why you want it?
You want to speak it out loud.
You want us?
You want to bind with the blood and in the name of Jesus Christ and that's simply what
you do.
You have to identify what's operating in the other person and say, I bind that spirit of
I'm in the name and blood of Jesus Christ from operating in and you want to be specific
about the person that you're speaking it over.
You know, God can hear your silent prayers, we talked about this, but when you're speaking
into the spirit realm of the demonic, you need to speak it into the atmosphere where
the prince of the airways,
you're not asking God to do it.
When I'm asking God to do it, we're doing it because we have been given power and authority.
So yeah, I think it's, you know, like the how, like in the name of Jesus, I bind up
that spirit of anger at working joe.
I buy that, that spirit of sarcasm, like you say, being specific, the Holy Spirit who's
qualified to bind up demons and somebody believers are
those that can operate with the blood and in the name of Jesus Christ as believer can
speak that into the atmosphere.
And I think it's interesting.
Um, you said, um, be specific as specific as you can with the demons that are in operation.
Now, oftentimes there could be a myriad of demons that are operating through person and
you may not be able to identify all of them.
So a good quick fix binding prayer is to bind any manifesting spirit that is operating in
Joe with the blood and in the name of Jesus Christ, and you can see in the fruit of the
Holy Spirit, and you'll see it'll shut down for season as well too.
So there's a very specific, or you can be a little bit more general with manifesting
demons and it will also bind it.
I'm one of the things that we'd like to point out is that this does not have to be done
in the presence of the person.
And in fact, I would discourage that you do it like in the same room I spent a lot of
time when we had spiritual battles in our home, in my bathroom binding in Lucy.
Oftentimes if you speak the demon's name out in front of the person who's manifesting,
um, it will try to blow up and get bigger because you're actually paying attention to
antagonize it.
It gets bigger and it will manifest and, and try to take over.
I remember once I was, it was um, uh, in a, in a place where I was reading the newspaper
and someone else in that, in that restaurant was manifesting and I began to bind up right
there.
Um, I was pretty close to them.
What was going now.
He couldn't hear me.
Um, but I began to bind certain binding up behind the newspaper.
I was, he came all the way over, pulled the newspaper down and looked at me and said,
I know what you're doing behind that newspaper.
So the spirits they do know, don't they can see the spirits and as conceived spirit, God
is spirits.
And another person at that is interesting that you want to, you know, I would separate
yourself a little bit and you don't want to do it at the same room.
I heard people say, and they'll, they'll relay there in some measure of pride.
They, they'll go into somebody's who's and wag their finger in your face.
And I look in their eye.
They have bind up at Dema.
Well, yeah, you might trying to speak to the dealer, but there's a person.
There is, that's the devil's got power in, in their life and it's working and literally
they just getting antagonized and if it just never seen that being effective in how I know
I've done it before, he
gets all part of the training and the teaching that God does with you and you know, you go
up to somebody who's angry and you say, I bind up that spirit of anger.
There's a good chance you're gonna get a spirit of rate.
No, exactly.
That's, that's.
Yeah, that's not spiritual warfare.
I can just be foolish to sometimes say I need to be wise and so, but if you just turn it
as a spiritual problem and we're quick to say, look, there's demons behind every problem
in a person's life, but you know, in certain situations their struggle is not against flesh
and blood and you can discern the spirits and you combined those spirits ops alone are
not in front of the person and out loud.
There is fruit from that.
Or we could just tell you so many stories where that has been the case.
I mean, we talked about the teacher.
One of my counselors is for for people who are divorced and they many times if you got
divorced and you have children, your relationship with your ex spouse does not and it goes on
and on and on because you have children and I say, look what w you know.
They tell about that relationship, how bad it is.
Say, look, before you call that person and go see them next time you sit down before
you pick up that phone or you go over and you do some binding and losing weight down
on a paper.
Well, what do you see potential and discern the spirits at working in your spot, your
spot, your ex-spouse anger.
We control fear to addictions.
Whatever you sell you, whatever you see before you call, before you sit down and do some
spiritual warfare, those in the name of Jesus, I bind up that spirit of sarcasm and that
spirit of that critical spirit and that spirit of control in Mary or Joe or wherever it is,
and then your Lord.
You lose your Holy Spirit upon where I thank you for revealing yourself.
I thank you for your piece being manifested in their life and just buying the devil's
loosed, the Holy Spirit speak life over that conversation and then you make the call, then
you go, and then of course you couple it with the fact that you know it's one thing to do
the prayers, but then you gotta be Jesus with flesh on you can't go and go there and be
and be mean and nasty and expect God to honor that Devil's to stay bound, but you do that
and just see what God does and people are amazed.
They say it works.
It does work.
You gotta do it, and then you just walk it out in the in the natural and see what God
does with that and while you were in contact with that person and that season, how it could
be minutes, hours could be days.
It could be longer that spirits bound and so you know that's, that's the question is
well, how long does it last?
It lasts as long as that person's well, however strong, the spirits already can come up and
overtake it.
So you know, there's, there's no real time that we can affixed to each one, but you know,
you mentioned finding things that before calling on the phone, I'd like to add that if parents
of teenagers we want, you want to get the truth out of them.
Sad thing, you know, sometimes teenagers don't always tell you the truth happens from time
to time.
I always tell parents to bind up any lying spirit that would be operating in their child
and lose the spirit of truth on them right before they go in and ask the question.
So the timeframe, you know, you don't want to bind it up like a day before and expect
it to be working.
It has to be written relatively close time proximity.
Um, yeah.
So that's why we say do it right before you called do it right before you walk into someone's
home.
Do it, you know, pretty, pretty close to the time you want it to stay bound.
And then you may need to go buy it again.
But you know, it does.
It will stay bound for a certain length of time.
You can do it before family gatherings, right?
I have a step of faith that I teach people like a lot of times during the summer, like
now, Don, they'll come in and they'll want to learn how to take authority over the spiritual
atmosphere if they're flying on vacation to family reunion or something where they're
going to do that to know how to take authority over this stuff before they actually go so
they can have a nice day.
You and I, and we as believers have authority over.
We have a measure of authority where if you were in your workplace, you know you have
a measure of authority there.
You know where you're in your work area.
You can go in and bind up spirits for season.
I mean just, you know, there's.
Yes, there's limits to that.
I get that, but just you have a measure of authority where you, where you work in and
you see demons manifesting in people at Church.
Many times in seeing demons manifesting and people are.
I'll just start binding that spirit out loud and I don't have to go over that.
You're going to lay hands on, you need to do that, you know, there's, there's value
of it when you can and you get somebody who's willing and they want them and they are open
to receive.
You can look in their eyes buying up those spirits and that takes some wisdom and some
discernment there as well.
But apart from that, you just binding up the spirits, dislike you just do it, do it by
faith, and then you gotta be, you know, responded appropriately in the flesh as well.
And just see what God does with that.
I mean, that's where I've seen work with family members may have been people with spirits
of addiction, you know, do people come in and they'll go through deliverance and, and,
and especially if it's the first time they'd had this kind of teaching in their eyes are
opened to the spirit realm and learning how demons operate.
Many times they'll say, oh man, I've got, you know, I got, I got a husband, I've got
a wife, I've got a daughter, I got a son, I got whatever.
They need this, but they're not ready.
They're not ready.
They're not open to it, say, well look, that's where this binding evolution process in this
application can work.
You can start binding up the humans in loosed the Holy Spirit while, until they get to that
point where they're open to receive, right?
To see that many times with people's spirits, with addiction.
You can't force people to get free from addictions, but you can get them to that place sometimes
where they want it.
Right?
You've seen
and then you said, you know, when, you know other examples too, because what we talked
about different things like in advance.
I know I went through deliverance and, and um, but then I had to go back to work.
I worked in corporate America, wasn't when I got to work with you don, where everything
is always wonderful.
But back in corporate America it was Kinda like a train wreck of know demonic activity
that was going on.
I was in sales and I worked with a man who had a spirit of greed.
I'm frankly.
And so my story with that is while I was in the office one day and I noticed that all
of my Christmas presents that had come in from the different vendors were underneath
his desk with and these were boxes that had my name on them and I was wondering where
they were because my vendors had actually called and said that I receive them and I've
recently blogged about this, so some of you may have heard it, but, um, you know, I didn't
get my gifts and I thought maybe he was storing them off for me to give them to me at one
particular time.
Right.
And you know, that wasn't the case.
I came back from lunch and he had taken them all home and his car for his annual Christmas
party.
So I was mad because if anybody knows me, they know I share, I share everything.
And so this really upset me and I had faithfully.
I had friends that were pastors in the opposite at the time.
They came and they took me to the back of the office and asked me, you know, what are
you going to do about this?
What would your teaching do about what would your, what are you learning now in the word?
And I'd said, well, I'd first of all, I think I need to kill him unless he gets on one of
those roads to recovery or one of those roads that get you to one of those safe, safe towns.
But in light of that, if he doesn't get his feet on that road first, I guess I should
bind to find out that spirit of greed that's operating in him.
And you know, I've heard people say, oftentimes I wish I could work in a Christian atmosphere.
Yes, I'm very grateful that I get to work in one now.
But there was a time where I had to learn how not, how to work in one that wasn't so
good.
And then when I did get the authority over that, then God moved me.
But if you're in the battle and you're losing, God wants you to understand how to bind.
So I had to learn how to bind this thing up and so I bound up that spirit of greed lose
to spirit of generosity on him.
And the whole atmosphere shifted.
Now I did it every day before I went in.
Did you have to do that until he.
Until he got, until he left actually.
Got.
He actually was.
He did leave.
So that was OK.
And then I got a job.
So yes.
And then my big diligence was of course I got promoted to a different place which was
here.
So God was faithful, but I didn't get right out of there.
And I think I had four years of learning that.
I mean, it wasn't like an overnight thing.
I learned how to war.
Well, I think you, you hit on a key point, you know, this binding and losing.
I'm going to tell you stories, instances in, in family where we've had to do it for years,
bind up demonic spirits and it can be for Hawaii, it could be literally, it can be yours.
Want to try to position this as a quick fix what you do at once or two times.
I mean, I've seen it for salvation of my fam.
Family members in my family were praying for somebody for 10 or 12 years by the empathy.
It's losing the Holy Spirit upon them before forced, before passing into glory if you like.
They were received the salvation and so they could pass him so that we have my own testimony
and you got yours and we just, you know everybody, if you'll do this consistently and persistently
with the belief and understanding that you as a believer have power and authority over
the demonic realm.
It's not deliverance.
You're not driving demons out, but you are binding them, making them effective, making
them inactive for a season.
I'm losing the Holy Spirit and let's face it and all things of the kingdom.
Faith is the currency of the kingdom.
You.
We operate in faith and we can just tell you from looking on our website, we've got testimonials
of this many testimonies of people who've been binding and losing and with great fruit
and I just encourage you just just to start doing that.
You have power and authority.
You're good enough because you have Christ in you.
And you have power and authority to bind these devils loosed, the Holy Spirit, whatever else
you're doing as far as praying and believing for it.
Just keep doing that.
But add this to the mix and see that God doesn't honor this to bind up the demonic spirits
that work in a person and losing the Holy Spirit.
Don't forget that part.
It is, it is.
It's, it's a two edge.
And um, it's, it's a double [inaudible] it comes right back to scripture that Matthew
Sixteen, 19 binding the demons and loosen the holy spirit and you know, it's um, there's,
we need to have that.
We need to have that balance where, you know, yes, we're cost, etc.
Deliverance ministry, there's not demons everywhere behind every problem, but they are demonic
spirits there and in somebody that you can, you know, you're not struggling against flesh
and blood devil's manifesting and binding them.
AnD so that's the point I'd probably like to emphasize that we've, we've touched on
it, but it's worth emphasizing is we begin to close here.
That binding is not deliverance.
And, and you know, it's, it's really a temporary fix, if you like the last, as long as it lasts,
and that while those spirits are bound, inactive in the realm of like spiritual handcuffs,
the person can activate those, they can break those spiritual hangups for their freewill.
But while they're about god, you're going to be believing god to be speaking to that
person and you do it in faith and you just step out and you start to do it.
So that's the important thing that I think I'd like everybody to walk away with is from
this podcast with
have one more story to share with you on that too.
I think it's interesting if you've got people that speak negatively can yours, you know,
moaning, complaining, and you know you love them.
They're either your friends or your family members and you need to go out to dinner with
them.
Oftentimes you want to, you want to bind up that, and I call it a word cursing spirit
that speaks death.
So it's, it's, it can be negativity, it could be, but I bind up every word, cursing spirit
that's using that person's mouth to speak either negatively or things of death.
And then I loose on their tongue, a spirit of life where they speak life to the fullest,
good thing.
So I bind up that word cursing spirit and I lose the spirit of life on their lips and
I will go to dinner with people that are, you know, and I've actually sat across the
table from them and said, how come you're not speaking tonight?
What, why aren't you sharing with us?
And they won't say anything or did something happen? because I'd actually forgotten that
I did it right before we went to dinner.
And I look at them and they'll say, they'll say, don't you have anything that you want
to say?
And literally their response to me was, I did, but I don't now.
That was like, oh yeah, I bound their mouth shut and I forgot about that.
But that's powerful if you've, you know, cause you don't want him speaking negative things
over themselves, but you lose a life on their tongue.
I'm not trying to bind them so they don't say anything.
But do you want him to speak?
Yeah, just discern it by the spirit.
You take authority and as you say, I'm sure even in that context, you were nice to that
person.
You love that person.
You just do that.
We've got it.
We got to put the two of them together.
We can't employ this binding and losing it.
And then you know, just going to walk in a negative, frustrating moment and expect to
have
really good for you.
Have wonderful dinners and you'll enjoy them more and things will be great.
It does.
It makes a difference.
Just do it.
Step out.
Started doing these things once again, do it alone.
Not to the person's face.
Do it out loud.
The demons, neat to hear you.
They cannot read your mind.
There's no time and distance in the spirit realm.
So you know the fact that you're speaking it out loud and the person can't hear you.
It doesn't matter, the demons know, they know the power and the authority and it happened,
so it just, you just start doing that, walking out and see good fruit from that.
