Whether or not eyes are the windows to the soul... scientifically, pupils are the
windows of the eyes.
And sometimes, those windows are more open than usual, like when you've taken a medication
that causes pupil dilation.
Or when people use certain recreational drugs.
It all comes down to how different chemicals can cause changes throughout your whole body,
which can affect little muscles in your eyes.
The pupils are openings that let light into the rest of your eye.
And the colored part of your eye, the iris, controls how much light makes it in.
The balance of two muscle groups in the iris changes how big your pupils are, like a camera aperture.
The iris dilator is arranged like bicycle spokes around the center of your eye.
And when it contracts, it pulls your pupils open wider.
The iris sphincter, on the other hand, is in a ring around your pupil and acts like
most of the sphincter muscles in your body.
It constricts your pupils down to little dots.
So now you know that you've got a sphincter in your eye.
That's just a fact for you.
Anything that blocks or stimulates either muscle can knock that balance out of whack
and cause some really noticeable changes.
For example, drugs that block receptors for the neurotransmitter acetylcholine can cause
impressive dilation.
These medications are designed to inhibit the parasympathetic nervous system, which
controls the involuntary muscle contractions that keep things moving in your body, like
your lungs, or the plumbing that gets rid of waste.
This system also controls the iris sphincter muscle.
So when it's inhibited, the iris sphincter can't counteract the pull from the iris
dilator — and you get wide open, 'blown out' pupils.
Some drugs, like ones for overactive bladders or excessive sweating, target the entire parasympathetic
nervous system.
They often have dilated pupils or blurry vision as side effects, but those aren't the goal.
Others, like the drops used to dilate pupils for eye exams, are more targeted and don't
throw your whole body off.
Now, other drugs can stimulate the sympathetic nervous system, responsible for your body's
'fight-or-flight' response.
And these too can cause dilation.
Take adrenaline, which floods your bloodstream when you're scared but is also a medication
for extreme allergic reactions — it's what's in the EpiPen.
Adrenaline can bind to nerve receptors connected to the iris dilator, making it contract and
pull your pupils open wide.
If people use drugs like cocaine, amphetamines, or even weed, their brains have more dopamine
and norepinephrine floating around.
Usually, either extra neurotransmitters get released, or receptors that naturally suck
them away get blocked by those drugs.
These chemicals are involved in the "high" feeling but also cause dilated pupils.
Scientists think that dopamine makes certain nerve cells release more norepinephrine, which
works like adrenaline to make the iris dilator contract.
So wide pupils can be caused by a lot of things.
But they're a hint that certain chemicals — illicit or not — are bubbling through
your body.

Your Chick-fil-A Order Begins At This Amazing Test Kitchen | Southern Living - Duration: 3:58.
(light upbeat music)
We've got four kitchens.
We've got a packaging lab.
We have production design facilities
where we can test out new equipment and processes.
We are literally using every square inch of this space
on a daily basis.
And it's flexible, so it looks one way today,
and it could look completely different tomorrow
because we've got a different purpose.
Even some of our own Chick-fil-A family members
come in here and get to try a product early on
to give feedback.
This particular building
also houses all of our culinarians.
Our chefs, our food scientists, our nutritionists.
Well, they can literally come out here
and pick fresh herbs off the wall
to put into their dishes.
This is literally their laboratory,
so instead of having a desk
with a computer sitting on it,
they've got a bench shop.
They're in here day in and day out.
You can see one of them over there now
rolling biscuits out by hand.
This is their laboratory to create the food
you see at Chick-fil-A every day.
So as we leave the bench-top kitchen,
which is where things kinda begin,
and you're sort of unbounded.
You can make whatever you want.
We then have to think,
"Well, how would we sell this
"in a Chick-fil-A restaurant?"
So we have another kitchen.
We just call it The Restaurant
because in here this looks like
the back of a Chick-fil-A restaurant
so you have to figure out,
"How am I gonna do it all across the country here,"
so real equipment, real set-up,
and we take the items that we made
in the lab, pull 'em in here
and figure out this is how we're gonna sell 'em
in an actual store.
This is where we prepare salads
and wraps on a daily basis
where we can literally get back here
and make sandwiches for you today
and for also when we're taste-testing items.
We can cook waffle fries.
We've even got a mock drive-thru window
so we can really try to simulate
what would happen in a store.
Now, that's obviously just the first step.
We're always gonna take our
new and improved menu items out into a test,
into real restaurants,
and make sure they work for Chick-fil-A.
But this really is where it all begins.
So, just like home,
you've got a refrigerator and a freezer.
We've got the same thing here.
It's just a little bit bigger
to handle all the volume of work that we do.
So this is the walk-in cooler.
Yes, this is where we can keep our fresh produce,
and things like lemons.
You may not have this many at home.
So, obviously we do a lot of work on food
but to support the food we have labs here
both for packaging and for equipment,
and one of the things we find...
Sometimes we need to take the equipment
that you can buy
and modify it to get exactly what we want
in a particular menu item or,
in cases, maybe even create something that doesn't exist.
This is the lab
where we work on some of the equipment.
At least it's part of the lab.
And, on any given day,
we're trying to think about solutions
that would help our restaurants do an even better job
of preparing a lot of food fast
and making it super delicious.
One of the things that's interesting
is how many engineers we actually have working here.
We've got a team of probably about 20 engineers
all in order to enable us to cook
a lot of great food.
This is our packaging innovation lab.
Just like our food,
we always want to make sure
that we are innovating and staying relevant.
The goals with our packaging
we want to make sure that we're honoring the food,
that if it's supposed to be hot, it's hot;
if it's supposed to be cold, it stays cold,
all while we still have to be fun and fresh and relevant
and make sure that we're enhancing the brand.
The food has to be good.
That's why you come to Chick-fil-A.
But we also feel this responsibility
to be increasingly healthy and sustainable
and to make sure we're giving you
fresh, nutritious choices.
And we love doing that
'cause we think it yields great taste.

BREAKING: Trump Just FIRED Him – He STOLE All Of It!
Part of the reason Donald Trump won the Presidential election in 2016 is that of his witty slogans
and promise to "drain the swamp" and he's doing it left, right, and center.
Trump has been dropping people out of the White House non-stop, regardless of which
direction they lean in their fundamental political preferences.
He doesn't care who they are, he'll fire them or force them into resignation if he
doesn't believe they're serving America and being loyal to their leader.
Having differences of opinions and different points of view on subjects important to the
country helps lead people to the best possible solution.
Having different views and purposely working against the President, instead of working
with him, is a quick way to get fired in this era's political realm.
Another way to easily get booted from a nice job with the White House is to squander away
taxpayer money or blow your salary on something ridiculous.
In this case, it's a young 27-year-old employee who served as a personal assistant directly
to President Trump who's getting the boot.
This is John McEntee and he allegedly lost $250,000 at the MGM National Harbor casino
which is perhaps more than twice his salary.
It appears as though McEntee became addicted to gambling and made a lot of large bets that
lost and left him in the hole as he lost his money.
It's unknown if any of the money he lost in his betting was taxpayer money or part
of a government fund.
McEntee is reported to have lost a decent amount of the money while betting up to $4,000
on a spin, which could only mean bad things if someone betting that much keep losing,
especially if they've lost an amount in the six-figure range.
The Daily Mail reported more on the former college football quarterback who became an
assistant for President Trump: "McEntee, who served as the trip director for Trump's
campaign and went on to become his 'body man,' was escorted out of the White House
earlier this month.
He had worked there throughout the administration.
McEntee's six-figure betting dwarfed the $115,000 salary he was making annually
NBC News first revealed McEntee was struggling with a gambling addiction, and suggested it
was related to him failing background security checks.
Both the Secret Service and the FBI are reported to be probing whether McEntee committed serious
financial crimes.
The $1.4billion casino resort which McEntee favored to feed his addiction is on the banks
of the Potomac River and only opened its doors in December, 2016.
It is the nearest casino to the White House.
A source with knowledge of McEntee's gambling told DailyMail.com: The MGM National Harbor
is a beautiful casino and hasn't been open long, it's within sight of all the monuments
in DC.
McEntee obviously had it bad to blow $250,000 in a year, to lose that kind of money he was
betting thousands of dollars a time.
'What's amazing is he had the time to work in the White House and still managed
to hit the tables so often.
The source says McEntee visited the casino at least twice in recent months and at one
point last year was up $100,000 and was betting $20,000 per spin of the roulette wheel.
But his luck soon ran out and he ultimately lost $250,000 at the casino before being turfed
out of the White House.
A source familiar with McEntee's firing told NBC News the circumstances surrounding
his departure were not related to Trump.
He left the White House without his belongings, and another official said he even left without
his jacket, according to the report."
McEntee getting fired shows that President Trump does not have favorites, nor does he
play favorites with his employees.
It seemed like McEntee got caught up in a terrible habit and didn't call the 1-800
number that's often shown throughout casinos.
Had he called, then he could've gotten help with his addictive gambling habit instead
of letting the house take his money.
It seems like McEntee was also up a lot of money when he was playing and if that's
true, then he should have stopped playing when he was up.
According to the Daily Mail, it seems more like he squandered it away, essentially letting
himself get robbed by the house who always seems to win.
President Trump can't have someone in his administration who is that irresponsible that
they would lose that much money and not know when to quit or pull out of a bad deal.
That would put Trump's administration in jeopardy and does not seem like a good character
match for the President who lost a brother to addiction.
Even though drugs, alcohol, and gambling are very different addictions, it's still important
for the President to keep his team on a high level and without personal conflictions.
Hopefully, McEntee gets help and quits the casino.
Until then, Trump will continue draining the swamp.

Second Corporate War - Cyberpunk 2077 lore - Duration: 6:19.
Greetings Earthlings! Welcome to the MadQueen Show!
I am your host the MadQueen On today's menu, we have a new Cyberpunk
2077 lore video for you and today we're going to talk about the Second Corporate War
The Second Corporate War, the most globally environmental devastating corporate conflict,
that started in 2008, began as a misunderstanding between the oil giants Petrochem and SovOil
Petrochem and SovOil have had an acrimonious relationship for long
The two megacorporations produce the majority of the world's CHOOH2™, and are
the only viable producers of raw petroleum products remaining
They had competed fiercely for markets and resources for long years before the conflict
In 2006, relations between the two corporations were the best they had ever been, but relations
began to sour between the two firms when a merger deal fell through at the eleventh hour,
when both companies tried to reach a deal to share the oil resources at the South Chines Sea
A huge drilling accident at a Petrochem platform in 2008, an event that was blamed for touching
off the war, brought the two companies to blows in a conflict the likes of which the
Pacific Rim had not seen since World War Two
Initially, SovOil enjoyed a string of military victories, although both sides had severely
crippled each others' oil facilities within just a few weeks
Petrochem fought back hard, expending untold millions to regain the upper hand, at the
cost of thousands of lives
Petrochem's success peaked with their surprise capture of the Spratly Island Chain and their
assassination of SovOil founder and CEO Anatoly Novikomo
But it was still not enough
SovOil easily repelled Petrochem's follow-up offensive in October 2009, reducing Petrochem's
forces in the Pacific to impotency
There was no formal surrender, but the war effectively ended on August 2010 with SovOil victorious

that's how we created de fuel that moves your life

Biotechnica
one step ahead
The Second Corporate War had several ramifications
First, the war shocked the hell out of analysts and the public in general who believed that
corporate conflict could never elevate past the point the first Corporate War reached
Second, this war marked the first time that a multinational firm actually publicly defied
national governments
SovOil completely ignored the World of Nations and did whatever it wished
Both sides used the smaller PacRim nations as extensions of their own armed forces, actually
replacing administrations in some cases and installing friendly ones
In fact, Petrochem's assassination of Novikovo was carried out with a squadron of modified
Mirage III fighters on loan from Malaysia
Worst of all, because of constant raiding by both sides against each other's oil refineries,
frilling facilities, and pipelines, the war left most of the southern Pacific Rim badly polluted
The South China Sea, the focus of the conflict, became a lifeless chemical stew
all but uninhabitable to this day
Other, smaller corporations, had been active in oil exploration in the South China basin before the war
Unfortunately, none of those companies' platforms survived it
With its victory, SovOil ensured that it was the sole oil power in the regions, large or small
Some of those small corporations still bear grudges against SovOil and Petrochem, but
few are in a position to do anything about it
Entire national economies were ruined, and although SovOil was forced to pay reparations,
no amount of money could ever undo the damage
Well, folks, thanks for watching

Rescuers Who Think This Stray 'Dog' Looks Strange Soon Realize It Isn't A Dog At All - Duration: 4:04.
Tragically, lots of well-meaning dog owners find themselves in a position where they're
unable to care for their beloved pets as well as they should.
While some of these dogs have no trouble finding new forever homes, that isn't the case for
all of them.
Over the last six years, Los Angeles' animal services have taken in close to 200,000 lost
or homeless dogs.
Yet even in the midst of these staggering numbers, nothing compares to the story of
one sweet pup named New Boy.
Though he may have looked like it from a distance, New Boy wasn't just any old dog.
Once rescuers got closer to him, they realized they were dealing with something they had
never seen before…
When New Boy was found wandering through the streets of a Los Angeles suburb, he was corralled
by rescue teams.
It wasn't easy, but they finally managed to apprehend him so they could get him the
help he needed.
Once they got a good look at him, however, they realized something was off…
See, New Boy wasn't any ordinary dog.
On the surface, this stray looked like any other homeless pup roaming the streets in
desperate need of love and care,
but the truth of the matter was a little bit more complicated than anyone suspected.
It was clear this canine was special and that he needed help,
but rescuers were shocked to find out what was really going on with their newest addition
to the shelter.
It took a little bit of research, but what they learned changed everything they thought
they knew about this animal in need…
New Boy wasn't a dog at all, but a wolf-dog hybrid!
While that might sound like something out of a fantasy novel, wolf-dogs do occur naturally,
and quite often.
Both dogs and their wild counterparts are closely related enough so that breeding can
occur.
Michelle Proulx, the director of animal care at the W.O.L.F. sanctuary, acknowledged that
New Boy was shy and in rough shape.
But she was determined to help him, so she took him in.
She swore she would do whatever it took to get this wolf-dog a second shot at the life
he deserved.
New Boy was emaciated and dehydrated, so rescuers began by giving him fluids and food.
After being taken to the Wellington Veterinary Hospital,
they realized that New Boy was also anemic and suffering from inflamed feet.
They sure had their work cut out for them, it seemed…
"When we first met him, he was extremely timid and very scared," Michelle said.
She could tell from their first interactions that New Boy's life had not been an easy
one.
He was super shy and fearful of even the kindest touch.
Thankfully, that was all about to change!
In a matter of a few days, New Boy finally started to relax around his new caretakers.
It was like he could sense their love and their commitment to getting him healthy and
happy again.
"I think he's starting to realize that it's going to be okay," Michelle said.
"We're not seeing the same intensely fearful animal that we met initially".
Once New Boy began to trust the team, the rescuers were able to really get to know him.
Michelle noted that most wolf-dogs don't make it past the age of two because their
owners give them up.
They're not like other dogs, and most pet owners don't understand that until it's
too late.
While they might share some traits as dogs, it's important to remember that they are
also half-wolf.
Wolves have temperaments and needs that are specific to their breed.
New Boy's rescue team had a plan, though.
First, they would build up New Boy's appetite and teach him to trust the people helping
him.
After that, they wanted to pair him with a female companion.
Thankfully, this special pup was well on his way to recovering!
This is a story that you won't soon forget, and if it makes you sniffle a little, you're
certainly not alone!
It is always heartbreaking to see pets abandoned by owners who didn't know what they were
getting into.
Thank goodness that New Boy is finally getting the love
he deserves!
