Youtube daily Aug 2 2018

Hey what's up? today, my guest is Richard Liu

He worked for Google for over 8 years

across various projects

and during his time there

he hired over 500 people across different departments

and he left Google to make his own

job searching platform called leap.ai

that uses ai and machine learning

to make job searching 10x easier and 10x faster

and so in this video

we're going to talk about how you can use ai

to find yourself a better job or a new job

Hey What's up? Today i got Richard he is a

CEO and co-founder of Leap.ai

a new platform that uses ai to find you a job

it's not only going to find you a new job, it's you AI Career Advisor

and so today he's going to tell us

the 5 steps of using AI to get a job

it's super easy, when you go to leap.ai website, you upload your resume

because a lot of ai's claims to have ai but does not work. we wont let you wait in no time

once your resume is uploaded, instantly we'll tell you based on your resume alone

which company is a good fit for you

ofcourse, you'll say "i'm more than my resume"

"based on my resume alone, that's not good enough"

here are additional things you can do

answer some questions to specify your passion

what do you value? which industry are you passionate about?

what type of functions do you want to do?

your career is not about your passion but also based on what you're really good at

what are your secret strengths

we have some questions

that try to capture what you're really good at, what are your top skills

you can even invite your friends to comment on your strengths and skills

specify your preferences

what is the timeline, location or those type of things

and when it's done

instantly, our AI will tell you the matches for you

and based on what the company is looking for, based on who you are

we tell you why you should pursue this company

and this a true machine learning platform as you get more users

the platform gets smarter, i'm recommending things

ofcourse

a few things i want to point out

a bunch of people claim they have used AI for recruiting

most of them present their results to recruiters

we are the only one in the world

giving results to the consumers directly

we do it in realtime

so that means no way for me to have somebody manually give results for you

we launched the product and we have a lot of good feedback

yeah, and i think i'm not going to name any platforms

i would question and call it machine learning because it's like "tags" things

for example, if you put data science in your resume

then it will show you data science positions

it really sounds data science.

you are just copying the words and do a search based on the resume

so what makes your platform different?

can you talk about how the technology works?

i have a lot of people watching my channel who are interested in machine learning

and i think they'll be a little bit curious

don't overcomplicate it. break it down for someone

maybe you're eating dinner with a friend and you want to explain how leap.ai

finds those quality matches. how would you break it down to them?

looking at our model, it has 3 layers

the first layer is, we try to understand your resume

2nd layer is we try to go deeper trying to understand semantics of your resume

how is your career trajectory? was it fast growing? was it moving pretty slow?

you work on machine learning, you work on lower tier, infrastracture or application

or you're just a user of some other people's package

we try to understand so we can frame how deep you are in certain area

how good your career trajectory is

the 3rd layer is the final machine learning

we have a bunch of data

about your resume,

about your passion

your strenghts, your preferences

and then we consolidate data

and then we match with a model

and then we tell you which company is best fit for you

awesome! i think that's a great breakdown and concise too.

and also i think it's simple enought that anybody at home listening

can understand

and so if you wanna use ai

to make your job search 10x faster, 10x easier

i included a link to leap.ai in the description down below

go check it out

and it's a very easy to use job search platform

and if you do land a job through leap.ai, leap.ai will pay you $500

as a little congratulations for getting a job through the platform

but you do have to use masslink to get that $500

because we establish a colaboration

so thank you Richard for being our guest

and explained to us how someone could use leap.ai

to better their job search and i think

a lot are excited to see how ai technology take us in the future

and this is one of the exciting uses

hey, i hope you enjoyed the interview with Richard

He left his Senior Executive role at Google

to start a company calle Leap.ai

and it's a job searching paltform

that uses ai to make your job search 10x easier, 10x faster

and it is the first job searching platform

to use AI which means it gets more accurate as it collects more data from its users

so i specially negotiated a deal with leap.ai

where if you use my link to sign up for the platform

leap.ai will give you $500 after you land a job

so if you are ready to get your next job in tech

use my link in the description to sign up for leap.ai

CS Discoveries: Drawing in Game Lab - Part 2 - Duration: 1:32.

So far, you've only been drawing gray colored shapes.

Let's throw some color into these shapes to make them more interesting.

Every shape has two elements that can be colored.

A stroke and a fill.

The stroke is the border of the shape. The fill is the color inside the shape.

At any point you can change the color

used to draw the stroke or fill of the shape.

For example, here we'll change the fill to be the color green before drawing a rectangle.

If you draw more rectangles after setting the fill color, they'll also be green.

Until you change the fill color, Game Lab will continue to draw shapes in the color that you set.

The same applies for the stroke of your shapes.

If you don't want your shapes to have a stroke or a fill you can use the noStroke() or noFill() commands to make it so.

The order of commands matters a lot in Game Lab.

You need to change the color of your stroke or fill before you draw the shape.

If you are drawing or painting in real life, this would be like dipping your paintbrush into your palette before drawing on the canvas.

There's lots of other commands you can use to create

interesting and complex drawings.

As you get more familiar with all the drawing tools available in Game Lab you'll get better bringing your ideas to life.

Happy drawing!

CS Discoveries: Animating Sprites In Game Lab - Duration: 1:27.

You can animate with sprites too!

To do this, you'll need to update their properties inside the draw loop using the counter pattern.

For example, this program creates a sprite called "mySprite" then, inside the draw loop, it uses

the counter pattern to increase the sprite's 'X' position by one in each frame.

This makes the sprite move smoothly across the screen.

Adding a second sprite to a program is easy.

You just use the create sprite command again.

This program animates two sprites called sprite1 and sprite2.

'sprite1' uses the counter pattern to move across the screen by adding 1 to its 'X' property.

'sprite2' moves down by adding 1 to the 'Y' property on each tick of the draw loop.

These sprites have lots of other properties, but our program only needs to deal with the ones that are changing.

Sprites already helped you write more readable programs

and they are going to be extremely helpful and powerful tools for

making fun games and animations, so stay tuned!

Sarah Huckabee Sanders Tries To Justify Trump's Obstruction Of Justice - Duration: 4:45.

On Wednesday morning, Donald Trump very clearly committed obstruction of justice on Twitter,

when he asked attorney general Jeff Sessions to end the Muller probe immediately.

So obviously, later in the day, during her White House press briefing, Sarah Huckabee

Sanders was immediately, the very first question was about that specific tweet.

Now we all knew Sarah Huckabee Sanders was going to lie about it, we just had to wait

and see what the lie was going to be, and she didn't disappoint with how ridiculous

it was.

Take a look.

One of those, first off, is the President tweeted this morning about the Russian probe's

direction to the Jeff Sessions, asking him to end the Muller probe right now.

The President said a few weeks ago that he was not going to intervene with the Department

of Justice investigation.

Does that tweet this morning mark a change in posture by the President?

It's not an order, it's the President's opinion and it's ridiculous that all of the corruption

and dishonesty that's gone on with the launching of the witch hunt.

The President has watched this process play out but he also wants to see it come to an

end as he's stated many times.

And we look forward to that happening.

That's right.

It wasn't him telling Jeff Sessions, ordering him to end it, he was just telling Jeff Sessions

that that was his opinion that Sessions needs to end it now.

Now look, Huckabee Sanders as lied to us from day one.

Since the very second she took this job.

And she has had some actually decent lies.

Very clever, very creative.

But I feel like in this particular one she wasn't even really trying.

That's just his opinion.

You could've given us something so much better.

We wouldn't have believed it because we know that you're lying but at least act like you're

trying a little bit here Sarah.

That was his opinion?

That's probably one of the weakest lies you've ever told.

And it actually gets worse 'cause later on during the Q and A, she goes onto say that,

"No, no, no, President Trump was just fighting back."

That's what he was doing.

It's not obstruction of justice, it's fighting back.

Well, obviously no one in this administration knows what fighting back means.

And especially in the legal sense, you don't know when and where to fight back because

you fight back when you're involved in an investigation in court.

Anything done before that, especially to the investigators to try to make it go in your

favor, is 100% obstruction of justice.

We already know that Robert Muller is looking through Donald Trump's tweets for obstruction

of justice and Trump knows that.

And knowing that, he still tweeted that out on Wednesday morning.

Here is the word for word tweet in case you haven't seen it.

"This is a terrible situation and Attorney General Jeff Sessions should stop this rigged

witch hunt right now before it continues to stain our country any further.

Bob Muller is totally conflicted and his 17 angry Democrats that are doing his dirty work

are a disgrace to USA."

Here's another thing too that I don't think any of these idiots in the White House know.

When somebody's investigating you, probably not a good job to piss them off and say that

they're basically traitors to their country.

You know, the people who are doing everything they can to find any piece of dirt on you

to get you out of office, don't make them angrier.

It's not going to work out well for you no matter what because if they get mad, if you

make it personal which you have, what's to stop them from doing the same and going even

deeper into things they wouldn't have looked at to begin with but they do have the clearance

to actually do it, by the way, before Republicans say, "Well they can't do that."

Actually they can.

Muller was allowed to go absolutely anywhere he wanted with this investigation.

I suggest you go back and look into that.

So yeah, maybe there was something they didn't want to spend time with but you've pissed

them off to the point that now they're going to.

You are doing everything that a guilty person would do right now.

You know it Trump, Sarah Huckabee Sanders knows it and the best she can come up with

to cover your ass is to say that, "No, he's not obstructing justice, he's just expressing

an opinion."

And unfortunately his opinion is that he's going to obstruct justice at any given opportunity

and any time he tweets something out about this investigation.

Competition Brisket on WSM | 5 Hour Hot & Fast Cook - Duration: 21:15.

T-Roy's chillin' in the backyard grillin', cooking up some BBQ for you.

T-Roy's chillin' in the backyard grillin', showing you that you can cook it too!!!

Always with a beer or whiskey, but he cooks responsibly

Hey everybody, welcome to T-Roy Cooks. I appreciate you joining us

Harry Soo recently showed us over at Baby Back Maniacs house how to cook

brisket hot and fast so that's what I'm gonna do for you today.

I'm going to go detailed with it and show you exactly how you can cook, well I've got a 15 pound

brisket, but cook your brisket hot and fast in five hours on your Weber Smokey

mountain. And I've got some guests joining me today just stick around for

that they're gonna be doing some cooking on my Lone Star Grillz, but we're gonna

focus on that brisket on the Weber Smokey Mountain. Let me go get it trimmed up

for you we'll meet you right back folks y'all stick around. Hey guys, as you can

see it got my first guest here arrived, Chef Johnny from Texas Style Barbecue

and Cuisine on YouTube. I'll put a link for his channel up here. Y'all be sure and

go show him some love. How you doing Johnny? Hey I'll do it great Troy.

I'll tell ya what, it's good to be here. Good to see you in person man. We've

talked we've talked on Google Hangouts in it we've texted and we've called but

first time in person so it's great to be here today it is this cool man real cool

right here man we're gonna be cooking today on there I'll tell you why we got

some brisket going hot and fast we've got James bringing in some ribs I got a

couple of side dishes so we're gonna eat good we always eat good when we have a

good time. I'm gonna show you guys how to set up the Weber Smokey Mountain

for that hot and fast brisket all right folks first thing Harry Soo

said is if you're using wood chunks put the chunks in the bottom. We're

gonna go on with the cherry wood here, the brisket is a nice heavy piece of meat

A big roast, so you can use them a good bit of wood if you want and I'm going on with

some oak lump

load it up full. I'm going to reserve some to put in a chimney so we

can get a fire going and the whole purpose of this is that when we did it with

Harry we used a BBQ Guru, the Digi-Q

and closed all the vents on the bottom and just use the Digi-Q to maintain

the heat and we used the Professional series Kingsford briquettes

the charcoal briquettes to get the heat really hot because you

want to cook this about 400 degrees for the first two hours until the bark sets

I don't have a BBQ Guru, actually I do, but I'm not hooking it up so we're

gonna use a lump and that should provide enough heat for us to maintain that 400

degrees for at least two hours. Alright guys, I just want to show you where I'm

gonna put these coals. Instead of using the Minion method, we're going all over just

like that I'm gonna put this together we'll bring the brisket out as soon as

this thing gets up to about 400 degrees H i folks has been about 20 minutes or so

and you can see we're holding 400 now top vent is wide open and all bottom

vents are wide open if it goes up 25 degrees it goes down 25 degrees I'm not

concerned about it as long as close to 400 we're good and it is 10:08 am. Let's see

how long this thing takes to cook. I have a 15 1/2 pound brisket

and no water pan in the WSM, the water pan is not in here. We're going

fat sad down and I've got Harry Soo's beef rub on here and that's all. I

didn't put any binder liquid or anything on the brisket. So we're gonna put the lid back on and every 15

minutes we're going to rotate the grill grate 90 degrees. We'll show

that for you here shortly, so stay tuned.

Alright guys, it's been 15 minutes and we're just going to rotate this 90 degrees. That's gonna help keep

the bottom from being in one hot spot that's gonna rotate it around it's gonna

be more even cooking every 15 minutes go ahead and give her a spin we'll bring

y'all back in a little while. alright guys it's been another 15

minutes time for a second rotation just remember which way you're rotating

because you know sometimes you forget I'm going clockwise, there you go.

If it starts looking a little bit dry in about another 30 minutes or so I might

start spritzing it, but every 15 minutes spin the grate for two hours.

After two hours the bark should be set. At that point, we'll wrap it. So I'll bring y'all

back when we get closer to wrapping. We've been going an hour and

a half and you can see we are still holding around about 400 degrees. It's time to

rotate and I think at an hour and a half in, it is also time to spritz

I don't know if you can tell, but cooking a brisket hot and fast like this

the brisket actually swells up

it's just beef broth folks, that's all I'm using is beef broth. Did you put a

wood chunk underneath? No I didn't it just bowed up on its own?

This is a Costco USDA Prime brisket and, like I said, if it were flat down here

and pooling a little liquid on the flat section, which will hurt your bark, I would throw a wood

chunk under that section so it'll make the water or juice will roll off the brisket.

Okay, when you look at that brisket right now and you look at it you would

think it has been on about seven or eight hours right? It has that color to it, but it's

only been an hour and a half! But it's really odd - I mean you can actually see this if you go

back and look when I first put it on it wasn't puffed up like this it

actually puffs up during this hot and fast cook it's kind of swelled up

Alright, everything's getting on fire down there so I'm gonna go ahead and put the lid

back on it we'll be back in a little bit when we wrap it folks all right folks as

you can see we're still holding 400 it has been two hours on the dot time to

take this brisket off and we're gonna wrap it in some heavy-duty aluminum foil

The bottom looks like it's okay. Johnny, if you don't mind taking that inside for me?

I appreciate it man. Now, for the cooker, we need to lower the temperature down, so we're

going in with the water pan, but no water - just putting the empty water pan in and putting the grill grate

back on so we can sit the brisket on something

put the lid back on now I'm gonna lower the temperature by closing the bottom

vents about halfway and see if we can get down to about 275 or 300 if I need

to adjust it a little further I will but 275 - 300F is what you're looking for

Alright folks, we got down to about 300 and that took about 20-25 minutes as you can see I wrapped

the brisket in foil with the shiny side inside and we're still going fat side down

since the water pan is in there we don't need to rotate the grate any further just gonna

let that baby cook at between 275 and 300 for the remainder of the

cook which should be another three hours or so we'll start probing for

tenderness and after a couple of hours Hey Brother James, let me get that lid for you!

Brother James is gonna check the feel of the brisket by probing it. And it is now 3:06 pm. This brisket is probing tender!

Yeah I like the way that feels. That's been five hours on the smoker

actually four and a half hours because we waiting 30 minutes for the WSM to get down from 400F to 300F

and if people are wondering, the temp is at 209-210F in the flat section

and it is actually pretty much the same in the point section.

So, it's pretty even all the way across but I think it feels tender to me and

that's what you want to go by more than a temp. The temp is just a guideline but

yeah, the feel is probably 90% of it so I think this bad boy is done. We need to pull

off let it rest a little while. I'm actually gonna peel the foil away and just let

some of that heat escape from it because I don't want to overcook and once it

gets down to about 170 or 165F internal then at that point we can slice into it.

yeah, that's called burping it! We will meet y'all back inside after the brisket rests.

hey guys we're ready to cut this brisket up and we decided we're gonna do some

burnt ends right James? That's right, we are, and Johnny

appreciate you being here brother James y'all check out their channels. Their links will

be in the description just hit show more down below

brother James I'll give you the honor you got the knife you mind slicing up

some brisket yes let's do it let's do it we got it let's go all right let's get

this brisket separating we've got the flat up top and the point on the bottom we're

gonna separate this you just take your knife and it easily glides right

through that fat to separate the flat from the point just like that this

brisket smells heavenly uh-huh yeah so this is this is a flat here where your

slices will come from this is where your burnt ends will come from which is what

we're about to make yes so we're gonna take this flat and just put it aside for

now just kind of get it out of the way and this point here we're gonna slice it

up you say you wanted a slice out of this didn't you? Yes, I did! I wanted one slice

so we can taste it and then we're gonna cube it to make some burnt ends perfect

because I gotta cut some of this off anyway okay cool yes so a little bit of

the flat may be exactly that's exactly why yeah that's probably good there

sweet, let's give that a try. Man that looks good! Yeah no kidding man!

It slices right apart. Slice that in half oh yeah right there

there you go cheers guys I'm gonna take this part right here

cheers Cheers oh yeah mmm so beefy and tender, that's good stuff!!!

it's got a nice smoke flavor too! It sure does. Mmmm, so good!!!

I'm gonna just cube this up - okay let me try another little slice

I'm cutting 1 inch cubes - oh man you I keep cutting and we'll keep eating!

I'll take this piece right here! LOL

Let's do this, we're going to take this and turn it

sideways and cut some cubes out of this. I can't wait to try some of that!

I'm not putting very much pressure at all on this knife and it's cutting like

right through it. Like butter - yeah - can you cut this in half

again so we can so we can eat it there you go

I don't think we need to cut it, just pull it okay, Wow, that is tender look at that

you see that I got a bigger half though it doesn't matter okay it's tender oh my

god, that sure is good! Alright, so we got the brisket point chopped up into some

burnt ends take them place them in a pan here so the first rub that we're gonna

go with is this Kosmos-Q Cow Cover - we're gonna dust it with some of this.

This rub is great on beef. Yeah, that's why half of it is gone! I've been using that a lot and man is it good stuff!

Darian, you got a great a product here!

Sure enough! The next rub we're gonna use is this Kosmos-Q Texas Beef rub

these two rubs together I think are great combination we used it on some beef

ribs that we're gonna try here in just a little while and these two rubs are just

really really good together so next we're gonna sauce them with some

Head Country Apple Habanero. That's good stuff y'all. It sure is! I'll tell you what, I'm gonna

give your people a little secret! Okay! And I'm gonna give your people

Johnny a little secret you guys don't tell anybody though I'm

gonna tell you this yeah be quiet but this I don't even know what I should

say this is a rub I use in competitions! I mean, this is a sauce that I use in

competitions, this exact sauce! Head Country Apple Habanero - you heard it

here first folks God's honest truth so I probably shouldn't say that but you know

what if you guys follow me you know I like to

give you guys tips and tricks and you know help you guys out any way I can so

cut them up their game yeah it's cool this is one that I use

on my brisket in competitions and on my ribs

and it really really it goes great with beef, great with pork, it's just some good

stuff so we're gonna get these tossed in the sauce and get them back on the pit

but you guys don't tell anybody what I just told you, it's just between us! Just between all 100,000 of us! Now, because we

want to get some more bark on the outsides of this, which is why we're

doing the rubs and the sauce

we're not gonna cover this right? No, just put it on the pit right? Yeah, we're gonna

put it right on the pit and that way the smoke from the pit will get in there and

put a bark on it. Yeah, this sauce will caramelize

I'm not sure how long is it going to take just kind of depends on how that

what temp we're running the pit at but you know I'm reckoning a good 30-45

minutes maybe? Or maybe an hour? Yeah, so then we'll have to go get in the pool and just let

it hang out for an hour because it is hot outside! Yeah, plus we have other stuff to cook!

I think we've got ribs and stuff to cook

and to taste - Johnny over here, he did some baked beans and some potato salad

to go with all this I think the only thing we're missing is a little bit of

bread yeah I don't need bread! Good gosh that's good!

anyway, can you trust James? Or do you have to see if he's telling you the truth? I trust James!

James knows what good stuff is. That's good stuff mm-hmm all right we're gonna take this back outside

get it on the pit it's gonna be good! Alright, so we've got the brisket

flat we're gonna slice into it and we'll see what it looks like

it gets better as I get towards the middle and those are right at the end so that kinda...

since the end is thinner, it tends to flake up a little more but as you go further into

the flat you can see it holds together better and tends to be a more juicier

that's glistening right there James! Yeah, I know - I saw that and I pulled it out - oh yeah baby

and it's super tender... So let's cut some and eat it? Let's do it!!!

we're just talking, but we can eat

you know it's a wide angle lens when all of us can fit on camera! I remembered this time, I did a good job!

mm-hmm that's good hmm that's good but actually I think it could use a

little bit more rub...you know what we didn't do? We have that Au Jus over

there - that's true! yeah, we can dip it - that's what we... actually that's

what we're gonna do! I'm gonna grab that Au Jus and show you...

what we would do in a competition.

So we put this Au Jus into a grease separator

We need a small bowl... because the grease is gonna

be on top, yeah just pour some out... there you go that's

perfect so in a competition normally like I would take that Au Jus and put it

in a pan and I would take my slices take about four at a time

dip them in the Au Jus, dab them on a paper towel, and then put them in the

turn in box but this for tonight we're just gonna dab it on here and what that

does is that Au Jus is hot or warm, so it helps keep the

slices warm as it's waiting at the turn-in table but it also adds there's a

ton of flavor in here... you have the rub, the fat that's rendered out, the beef

broth there's just so much flavor in this Au Jus. The sheen... it's gonna

put a sheen on that too, so when the judges see it, it's got a little

shininess to it. Remember, you eat with your eyes before you open your mouth. Exactly, so when

they see it's got that little Sheen to it

absolutely alright yeah let's try this again... oh yeah, cut some up and do a retake!

You'll taste the difference from the first bite that you

took compared to now. It does look a lot better

it does, you see the light bouncing off of it

it's automatically gonna taste better right? Yeah, there's just so much flavor

this is Au Jus

that compared to the first bite... it's better, definitely better! Yeah, there's

wrong with that at all that's what is missing yeah so normally

when I cook a brisket like for catering gig or something I always take that Au Jus

and I slice it up put it in the pan I'll take Au Jus and pour it right

over. That looks like liquid gold right there... We call that black gold...Do ya?

Yeah, that's good stuff man!

Anything that's left over, I'll save

it for the next competition when I'm cooking a brisket

instead of adding beef broth, I add this. There's already beef broth in here, but there's tons of

flavor from the rub to the fat that's rendered out you know

this is just black gold...it multiplies the flavor each time. Yeah, if you

taste this compared to regular beef broth It's gonna have a lot more flavor so

that's why I will normally save it and use is for the next brisket cook

good point good stuff in there! Man, this is good!!!

You can just hang out and keep that around all the time. You can dip assorted things into it

Dude, that's jammin'!!!

Yeah, I'm diggin' that!!!

yeah, we did good man. Yeah we did, didn't we? LOL

Couldn't have done it without you Johnny! It's that moral support I gave today! Yeah, that's right!

Alright guys, there you have it. We actually did the

beef ribs and the burnt ends on my live chat, my live feed tonight. So y'all go

check that out if you have not yet.... Oops, sorry James... but I've got to thank

these guys Brother James from Aim'em & Claim'em Smokers

Brother Johnny from Texas Style Barbecue Cuisine... y'all go check out their

channels, show them some love. I'd appreciate it I'm sure they would as well. Anything

y'all got to say I mean it's some great barbecue we had today? We did, it was a great great

pleasure to meet y'all face to face yeah without a doubt

It's always a pleasure hanging out with Brother Troy for the day and we do it often. So it's aways a

pleasure to be here and then to have brother Johnny join us, you know, it's

just it's just made it even better so it was a great day hanging out

we're gonna do it again! So folks, I appreciate y'all joining me again. Y'all give me some

thumbs up and again show these guys some love

their channel links are down below in the description box if you're not familiar with them

I hope you share the video, and when you do, please tell all your friends that T-ROY Cooks Responsibly!!!

CS Discoveries: The Draw Loop in Game Lab - Duration: 2:59.

Animated movies create the impression that characters are moving smoothly, but

if you slow them down enough, you'll realize there are lots of individual images.

Each image is just a little bit different from the one before.

Speed them back up, and your eyes are tricked into thinking you're watching real life motion.

A very simple example of this effect is a flip book.

The key to animation, whether on paper, or the computer, is that part of the drawing is changing over time.

An easy way to achieve a change is to use the random

number command to generate a new random location, size, or color for the shape we're drawing.

Here is a simple program that draws a single rectangle with a

random 'X' position and a random 'Y' position.

If we run and reset this program over and over again, we can see that it draws the rectangle in a new position each time.

But that's like a flip book with only one page!

To create real animations, we need to be able to string these pages of the flip book together.

In Game Lab, we'll do this using the 'draw function'.

The 'draw function' is special in Game Lab.

The commands inside of the 'draw function' are run line by line from top to bottom,

but once the computer reaches the end of the commands

inside the draw function, it jumps back to the beginning and repeats the

commands over and over again as long as your program is running.

Because the code in the draw function repeats in a loop, we'll just refer to this as the 'draw loop'

Let's move our rectangle inside the 'draw loop' and see what happens.

WHOA, so many rectangles!

We can see that a rectangle isn't just being drawn once anymore!

Game lab is automatically calling the commands inside of the draw loop many times a second.

In this program, that means that a new random 'X' and 'Y' location is

generated and then a rectangle is drawn over and over and over.

You can place as many commands as you like inside of the draw function.

For example, let's choose a

new fill color before drawing each rectangle by placing a fill command inside the 'draw loop'.

Instead of always choosing the same color, we'll randomize by replacing

the red value with the random number command.

So in every frame of the flip book, the computer is picking a new shade of red and setting that as the fill color.

Then it picks a new 'X' and 'Y' value and draws a rectangle with those values.

In a typical animated movie or flip book, you don't continue to see all

of the drawings that came earlier in the animation.

Instead you have the illusion of a single shape or character moving over time.

You'll discover how to make that happen with the 'draw loop' soon.

CS Discoveries: Drawing in Game Lab - Part 1 - Duration: 2:39.

I'm Amara. I'm a student at Dartmouth College and I love to code and dance.

People always thought I was good with technical stuff, with computers and

phones and then I did Girls Who Code and yeah seeing other girls interested

and realizing that it was more accessible than I think I thought was a good

gateway into computer science.

Welcome to Game Lab!

Game Lab is a tool that let's you draw pictures, design animations, and build your own games with code.

To create these animations and games you'll be learning and using the programming language JavaScript.

Game Lab is designed with the beginning programmer in mind,

but it also includes many powerful features to help you bring your creations to life.

Let's get started!

In game lab, you can add lines of code to

your programs by dragging blocks out from the toolbox and snapping them together.

Then click the 'Run' button to see the result.

The output of the program will show up on the left in the display area.

If you prefer, you can also type the commands yourself.

Either way, you write your code you can always flip between block mode and text mode.

In fact, you can work in text mode and drag blocks out to insert the text.

If you make an error, you can use the blocks as a way to check if it's the right command.

If you want to get rid of a line of code, just drag the

block off the screen. You can also delete it from the text.

To start out, you'll be drawing with simple shapes like rectangles and ellipses.

That's a fancy name for an oval.

To change where shapes show up on the screen, you can change the numbers given to each command.

The first two numbers set the position of the shape.

The last two numbers change the size.

Let's check out an example where we want to move our rectangle down the screen

and then make it wider.

In Game Lab, the 'X' and 'Y' position starts at the top left corner.

If we want to move the rectangle down the screen, we actually need to increase the 'Y' value.

To make the rectangle wider, we'll also need to increase its width

Learning how to use new commands doesn't have to be trial and error.

If you hover over any of the blocks, you can read more about how to

use it and see detailed examples of each command.

I don't know what I want to do after college, but I know that computer science will give me a lot of

opportunities to work in many different industries which is why I like it so much.

CS Discoveries: Sprites in Game Lab - Duration: 2:37.

If you want to animate a single shape in Game Lab, you can quickly end up with a lot of variables to manage.

You'll need one to store the shapes 'X' position, one to store the 'Y' position,

one for width, one for height and as you add fills, strokes, and

other characteristics, you'll need even more variables.

If you want to animate additional shapes, you'll need to create a whole other set of variables.

All this can quickly lead to problems with organization and clarity in your code.

So, what's an elegant and manageable way to keep track of all these variables?

The solution is to start animating with sprites.

Think of a sprite like a character that lives inside your animations.

At first, a sprite will pretty much just be a rectangle,

but the beauty of a sprite is what it has going on behind the scenes.

When you make a sprite, it comes with properties, which are variables that store the characteristics of a sprite.

Properties describe things like

where the sprite is located on the screen, what it looks like, and what color it is.

To create a new sprite, use the create sprite command.

You can assign your sprite a label just like you would a variable.

This code is creating a new sprite and giving it the label "mySprite", but you can label it anything you'd like.

Just like shapes, sprites need to be drawn to the screen.

Use the drawSprites() command to see your sprite appear in the display area.

You can control a sprite's properties in your program by using 'dot notation'.

First, connect the label of the sprite to the label of the property with a dot.

Now you can use this just like a variable.

So for example, 'mySprite.x' gets 200 will update the sprite's 'X' location to 200.

And 'mySprite.width' gets 50 will update the sprite's width to 50.

The next time you call drawSprites() these new property values will be used to draw the sprite.

Sprites can have tons of properties.

As you get familiar with them, they'll give you powerful controls over what your sprites look like and can do.

Neon Dancing and Laser Shows! - Duration: 3:34.

- Hello, hello, hello, my friends.

Kaitlyn here, and how are you spending your summer nights?

(upbeat electronic music)

So to be completely honest, I typically avoid theme parks

during the heat of the summer because it is very hot

and humid and there's always lots of people,

and so it's just not as enjoyable of an experience for me.

However, I think Busch Gardens has come to understand that,

which is why they have added some new fun "Summer Nights"

programming to make people like me want to come to the park,

even though it may be extra hot.

The highlight of the whole event

is definitely the neon dance troupe Light Balance.

So they appeared on NBC's America's Got Talent,

and they are amazing and so worth seeing in person.

It's just such a fun and exciting show,

and really, I left feeling like I should have been dancing,

like it just, it made me want to dance with them.

And technically speaking, it's just so amazing,

because not only is it a dance show,

it is a timed light show set to choreography and music.

It is only 12 minutes, which is kind of short

for a show in Busch Gardens, but it is so action-packed

that I feel like it's definitely worth it.

Now after I got to see Light Balance,

I went and got some dinner with some fellow bloggers

and then we were waiting around

so that we could go see Spark,

which is the other kind of big event,

which is like a laser show and also

like a giant dance party with a DJ essentially.

But because Virginia summers are so volatile,

a huge thunderstorm rolled in.

Like the park was still open,

but none of the rides were running

or anything that was outside had to be canceled at the time

and so just ah, sadness. (laughs)

Kind of the risk you run in Virginia, though.

But some of the things that I didn't get to see

but are still running through August 12th are

fireworks every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, of course,

because who doesn't want to celebrate summer

without a little bit of pyrotechnics.

They also do projection mapping

on the Willkommenhaus in Germany.

It's like having a big light show

on the side of the building.

And then Spark, presented by Coca-Cola

is in the Royal Palace Theatre,

which is just like a giant dance party.

There's like bubble floors and laser lights

and all kinds of fun stuff and I'm really sad

I didn't get to be a part of it and film it for you guys.

But I may try to go back before August 12th.

And what's more appropriate for summer

than extremely ridiculous sweet treats?

So I did get to try their Freak Shakes

which are giant shakes full of, like chocolate chips

and marshmallow and there was a huge cookie

on top with whipped cream and hot fudge.

And holy cow, it's a lot of sugar.

I definitely recommend sharing it.

They also have giant fans around the park to help

you cool off because, boy, are Virginia summers hot.

I also just loved how the park was decorated for summer

with lots of pink and purple streamers and lights

and you know that that is 100% my aesthetic.

And really once the sun went down all

of those lights just gave the park a much cooler vibe.

One of the reasons Howl-O-Scream and Christmas Town

are my favorite times of the year at the park

is because of their use of lighting and decorations.

And with the lights and decorations in the summer

which is new this year, I can really see them trying

to bring that similar vibe to the summer.

But overall, even though I got a little bit wet,

I was really glad to get to experience

some of the Summer Nights fun.

Which leads me to the question for today, which is

how do you like to spend your summer nights?

Tell me down in the comments!

Plus remember that you can check me out on these other

social media sites and that you should

subscribe and hit the notification bell

so that you know the moment there's a new video!

And I will see you guys next Thursday! Bye! (kiss) (laughs)

(chill island music)

Megatron vs Predaking | Transformers Prime: Beast Hunters (2013) Season 3 Episode 12 - Duration: 4:59.

Lord Megatron, Predaking is on a rampage and moving rapidly

toward the ... ohh!

Autobot base, do you read?

This is Ratchet. Can anyone hear me?

- Loud and clear, old friend. - Whoo-hoo!

- Yes! Ratchet! - I knew he was all right!

Listen to me ... Megatron has managed to rebuild the

Omega lock on board his warship.

I've deactivated the Decepticon shielding system.

You should be able to get a fix on my coordinates.

Optimus, you must hurry!

Megatron is preparing to cyberform Earth as we speak!

Ratchet...

Autobots, lock on to those coordinates and prepare

- to storm the warship. - You heard our leader.

We're going in, and we're going in heavy.

Gear up.

They can't leave without saying goodbye.

No time for that, and no need.

- They'll be back. - Initiating groundbridge.

Members of team Prime,

Autobot and human, it has been my honor to lead you.

On this day, the fates of two worlds hang in the balance, and

the battle to come may very well be our last.

But for Earth, for Cybertron, for our comrade, Ratchet,

we must take the Decepticon warship.

Are you sure confronting the beast-bot directly is the best

- option, lord Megatron? - We shall see how his majesty

fares against the most powerful weapon in our vault ...

the Dark Star Saber!

- Megatron! - I'll just go fetch that

little something we talked about.

Is it true that you ordered the annihilation of my army?!

Indeed, and my only mistake was not

seeing the extermination through.

- Aah! - I will tear you apart!

I ...

That's the spirit.

But I was a champion of the pits of Chaon not

only due to my savage might... but also my cunning!

You should have heeded my advice and faced me as a beast.

Bravo, my liege. It isn't every day one witnesses

the extinction of a species all over again.

One ultimate weapon coming right up.

Uh, where's tall, dark, and scaly?

- Report. - Lord Megatron, the ship is

- under attack ... by the Autobots. - But the warship is cloaked.

- How is that possible? - The medic lives!

Mobilize what remains of our forces!

The Omega lock must be defended at all costs!

If Optimus Prime wishes to wage

a battle for the fate of both Earth and Cybertron...

then I shall oblige him.

This will be our last stand!
