- This is where the computer nerd in me

is kinda freaking out.

Like, I don't see like, a path.

A user that's going to be using a Chromebook

doesn't need to really have full access to a file system.

I think it's a picture of a penguin.

Okay, I'm a penguin people.

Yeah, I'm a sucker for cute animals.

So uh, that's my weakness.

She spilled her ice cream.

(beeping)

(typing)

(buzzing)

(upbeat music)

Hey guys, how you all doing?

Really that's just great.

You know I'm kinda great today too because Chromebook.

Like what?

I've never touched one of these things.

I've seriously never used a Chromebook before.

But there was this place that was just recycling

a bunch of stuff like these Lenovo notebooks,

that I threw some Linux stuff on

If you want to check that out.

And this was among the pile.

I mean one man's trash is another man's treasure right?

So, I thought I'd boot it up see what's on here

maybe reset it if I have to and then explore it

because I have not done so.

But, before we explore the software

which again I've never used before.

Let's take a look at the computer itself.

I mean just by looking at it, I mean I can tell

it's definitely a cheaper kinda feeling thing

but it was probably what like $300 bucks or so?

Definitely has kind of a MacBook Air style.

With the chiclet keyboard and the whole like,

quazi-silver look it's looks like it's kinda

like an aluminum but, no it's all plastic.

But you know for the price,

can't really go wrong with that right?

We have a headphone jack and a little sd card door

on the side there which is nice.

Nothing on that side.

And on the back it looks like plenty of I/O to go.

Not sure if that's like a little light or something

but that looks like the very tiny power port.

That's smaller than what I'm used to seeing on computers

But again not sure if that's a light or something.

Full size HDMI, looks like we have USB,

and under this door I noticed there was

like um, again I just kinda glanced at this

but it looked like there was another card in there.

So I'm not sure if that's like,

the main storage for the device.

Like maybe there's not an internal SSD or anything,

but instead its like this micro SD card

that's on the back there.

So if I remove that probably nothing would happen.

Actually I'm curious.

I'm going to remove this and boot it up

Eh, okay it's kinda stuck. Maybe it doesn't come out.

It looks a little bit bigger than a normal micro.

Oh, it feels all rubbery.

Okay so I'm really not sure what that is (chuckles)

And uh, there's the top Samsung Chrome.

Let's have a little peeky-poo. Oh. (laughs)

The whole things just wanted to flip up. Yeah okay.

Oh, it automatically turns on when you open it. Okay.

Maybe that's where Apple got the inspiration

for those new MacBook Pros.

Where you just open them

and I think they just turn on when you open them.

Don't they?

Okay so we have two users here

and this person's labeled as the owner.

That one person's not.

So I'm guessing you have one owner

and then you can add multiple other users on here.

Add supervised user, huh alright.

Again this is all new to me. (laughs)

All new to me.

Do we got brightness control here?

Oh look at that, isn't that nice.

So I guess I can add a person.

Oh yeah I guess I can just sign in with my account here.

But then I'm gonna have those other accounts on here still.

So, I may have to wipe em out

and there's also browse as a guest.

So I guess you can have an owner, other user accounts

in addition to the owner, or you can just browse as a guest.

Pretty cool, okay.

Well let's look at a way to just wipe this out.

Oh, didn't mean to do that.

I have no idea what happened there.

And before I continue I just wanna say

how impressed I am with the battery life on this thing.

Because I just realized it's not plugged in. (laughs)

And it's just been sitting in my junk pile

for probably over a month.

Still turns on.

Okay I plugged in the power and it like shut down on me.

I don't know why (chuckles)

That was mean.

Okay, so after a quick hit of the google machine

I found out we're gonna do something called a power wash.

Which I guess is a way to reset the factory defaults.

So, we have to hold down Control+Alt+Shift+R.

That's a lot of buttons.

And...

Well the instructions said click restart

but I just see this.

All user accounts and local data will be removed.

I mean that's good.

Alright well that's what we want.

Confirm power wash?

Yes this cannot be undone.

Hmmm, was it really that easy?

Control+Alt+Shift+R and then you click two more buttons

or three buttons however many that was.

Power wash in progress, okay.

So does that mean I can just go up to any Chromebook

owned by anybody and just wipeout their data that easily?

Like it didn't even ask me for password or anything.

I mean, hang on.

I'm looking at this article and it says like,

if you're on like a school network

or probably something that's like registered with a domain

kinda like, I don't know like a windows work station

under like active directory or whatever.

You know then you couldn't do it

but maybe that's where the security kicks in.

If you're on a domain you can't do it but, yeah

this things definitely wasn't it was just all local data

and yeah I apparently just reset it just like that.

Hmm, I don't know if that's very secure.

I mean ideally you stuff should be in the cloud

or backed up somewhere

and that stuff won't be touched obviously.

But (laughs)

In terms of local data, yeah I could just ruin your day.

I just wiped your shit out.

But oh well maybe its easy to get stuff back

with everything being you know Google accounts

and everything.

So, yeah let's connect to deep thirteen.

Oh and by the way,

I should probably mention why I'm doing this.

Just like with those Lenovo notebooks

I've come across some people that don't have a computer.

They might have a phone but they want a computer

but they can't really afford anything.

So, I've been taking these old computers

that have been recycled

or you know they've been wrapped up ready to get recycled.

But I was able to get my hands on a few of them

and I'm basically just cleaning them up and giving them away

to people I know that are in need of a computer.

But I'm going to sign in with my own Google account

and just experiment with the system because again

I have not used, I think it's called Chrome OS.

I have not used that before so this will be new to me.

Okay all I wanted to do was type in my email

and something went wrong.

Okay, ugh.

Let's try that again.

Okay I've been trying a few times

and one time it let me type in my password

but now it's just being kind of a bitch. (laughs)

It is not letting me in.

Um, not even past my email.

Uh, okay, well.

You know the definition of insanity is doing the same thing

over and over again and expecting a different result.

Well, I am the epitome of insanity.

So I am going to do the same thing over and over again

and expect it to just work.

You just watch I will break the rules of insanity.

You just watch.

Haha told you it would work, Suck it insanity,

and suck it dictionaries.

Suck my dictionary.

Please wait while I try to connect you.

It's probably doing a bunch of stuff right now.

But yeah this is the first time

I've used my Google account with a Chromebook.

Actually, how many Chromebook users do we have out there?

Show of hands.

And by user I just mean someone that owns one

it doesn't have to be your daily driver

but let me know if it is your daily driver.

Like maybe it's all you need.

Maybe you can get by just by using a Chromebook.

White screen.

Yes, you're signed in Chrome sync, bookmarks will sync.

Well I don't really use Chrome

but if I did it would do that.

Yeah, accept and continue, sure.

I agree to be turned into a Centipad.

Howdy computer.

Yes the account name is Computerclan.

So the first name is just Computer.

I'm looking at this screen kind of on an angle

so you guys can see it

and yeah the color is like totally lost.

So not really a high angle of view on this thing,

but again cheaper computer can't really complain, right?

Let's take a tour.

Get to your apps fast.

Fabulous.

Can't click it but okay, we'' just do next.

Check your Chromebook status.

I think it's a picture of a penguin.

Okay, I'm a penguin people.

Okay, so yeah, it looks like down here is

a type of panel of sorts.

I'm not sure if they technically call it a panel.

It's called a shelf. Alright, I like shelf, shelf is good.

Alright so we have a shelf, we have a Chrome, Gmail,

looks like Google docs, Youtube

and it looks like some kind of menu.

Do they call this the menu?

What do they call this? Let's see. Launcher.

So this is the launcher

and you can go full screen with that.

Okay that looks cool. I dig that.

And over here we have a notification area,

and I'm not exactly sure what they call this

but on Windows you'd typically call that a system tray.

And it looks like we have some quick access

to settings over there.

Alright, do we have like an Alt+Tab feature?

I'm actually curious about that.

I just want to explore this thing now, let's see.

Okay so yup, oh that's kinda cool.

You drag the window down there

the shelf goes semi transparent.

It kinda snaps right there and then it fades away

and when you're in full screen it goes opaque.

And that's interesting Adblock is disabled.

Wait a minute, I just did a power wash

so was Adblock like installed by default?

Oh you know what I think it, ahhh.

It synced from back in the old days

when I would stream Computer Clan live and we used Chrome.

Just when we were doing live broadcasts

so we had Adblock on so we didn't get

a bunch of crap popping up while we were streaming.

But yeah I typically don't use Adblock.

I know there's websites that are full of clickbaity crap

but I just stay away from that but I don't use Adblock.

I don't recommend you use it because there's certain people

maybe like the person you're watching

that make part of their living off of advertising.

Nervous Laughter, hahaha.

Okay let's go to Youtube, my stomping ground.

And let's see how this works.

Oh look a Captain Disillusion episode.

But yeah that is cool that like,

I'm signed into like all my Google shit.

Just automatically and even my bookmarks.

I only had the two, you know, those sync.

That's really cool.

Actually I can just go to the channel right from here.

I can see myself getting by just with using this

like if I had to.

Aside from the fact that I work in the video industry.

Like I couldn't get by without Phonica pro and Photoshop

and After Effects and stuff.

But honestly if I wasn't into all that

I could probably get by just with the Chromebook.

Cause there's some good web based applications

like Google docs and stuff.

I use that at the office all the time and it works.

I mean let's listen to how good the speakers sound on here.

- [Narrator] The Computer Clan is

a group of like minded people.

- Very tinny but again cheap ass notebook.

But it works, I mean the battery was lasting

for like over a month

and you know it's not a terrible product for what it is.

So I think whoever ends up getting this,

Uh yeah it'll be fine for them.

But I'm guessing a lot of stuff

just runs inside of Chrome here.

It is an operating system itself but it looks like

when you click things it just opens up inside of Chrome.

Actually, I don't know.

Are there other applications that run like on the system,

like outside of the web browser?

I'm guessing no.

Maybe aside from small things like calculator.

Yeah, that looks like it runs as a native application here.

So this is what the interface looks like.

Yeah, it's kinda Windows esque

but it also has that material look.

Little hamburger menu there.

Appearance. Show home button.

Minimize just kinda shrinks down like that.

I mean the animation seems smooth.

I mean I would expect this to preform decently

because you know it's kind of like

a hardware software made for each other solution.

Let's see right click, set wallpaper.

What kinda wallpapers you got here?

Ooh dark mode, yes.

Ooh surprise me.

Okay.

It's kinda like the I'm feeling lucky feature.

Look at that guy looking for a Coca-Cola.

Is that a fox? Or is it a... Looks like a fox.

Yeah, I'm a sucker for cute animal so uh that's my weakness.

Let's do what I like to do.

let's throw one of my wallpapers on here.

Let's go to thecomputerclan.com.

I actually have a bunch of new photos that I shot

that I like haven't even posted anywhere.

I really should get to that sometime.(laughs)

Um, but yeah, the wallpaper gallery

still has some decent stuff in it.

Let's see what we got. Um.

Okay, here we go. Yeah that is really high res.(laughs)

So I'm guessing I can just,

let's see, oh search Google for image.

You can do reverse search right from a right click.

Not to shabby.

Save image as, now this part is gonna be interesting

cause a lot of this stuff I'm guessing is Cloud based.

So yeah, there's my drive.

But, is there like local storage?

Like how does the file system work on here?

That's a question I have. (laughs)

So save.

Okay, nice notification. Show in folder.

Okay so there is like a file browser it look like.

It's called Files and that makes sense.

Oh, so we can Alt+Tab that pretty cool.

Alright, right click. There you go. Set wallpaper.

And bon appetite. Well that worked pretty well.

Yeah still getting used to this so yeah.

Google Drive shared with me my drive

offline recent ad news service.

So I guess you can have other Cloud services on here.

Install from the webstore.

Okay I gotcha.

This is where the computer nerd in me is kinda freakin out.

Like I don't like a path as to where this stored

but again a user that's going to be using a Chromebook

doesn't need to really have full access to a file system so.

I just jabbed my elbow against my table. That hurt.

Uh yeah, so that makes sense but let's see.

Get info. Oh it has my metadata there.

Oh you can press the space bar for that,

So if you press space bar it gives you

metadata and a larger preview.

So it's kinda like Quick Look kinda, you press the space bar

Sweet it's got my F stop. Yup I shot it at F3.

24mm ISO 100 Canon EOS 7d mark ii, actually,

Right here sitting off to the side.

That's exactly what I shot that photo with

same lens and body.

Well, let's see what's up in the web store

cause I'm guessing you can throw other applications on here.

Or as we called them in the old days programs.

Keep which is there note taker.

Ah yes, a speedtest, Grammarly.

Yes I've used Grammarly before.

That's good.

Nimbus which is a type of rain bearing cloud,

as I have learned.

Ginger which is kinda like Grammarly it's interesting

because their logos are also very similar. The G's.

But yeah I'm recognizing a lot of these applications

and I guess they just all run on Chrome through the browser

and stuff which is interesting.

It really actually is like a full circle scenario.

Think about it for a while.

Back in the day on our laptops on our desktops

our third party apps,

99% of the time were native applications.

We didn't really run third party apps in browsers.

Software as a service was a totally foreign concept

to most people back then.

And web applications HTML5 like that stuff was nonexistent.

And then on our phones like here comes along the iPhone.

And then people start writing third party

web applications for the phone.

So in short, there was a time

when most third party applications on computers were native

and most third party applications on phones were on the web.

And then it changed.

And now it's like all the applications are native apps

you install on your phone through the app store.

And now it's like on computers

so many things run the web now.

It's like (clicks) everything flipped.

Native apps which were once the go to on computers

are now the go to on phones.

And web apps which were once the go to on phones

are now the go to on computers.

So I was just scrolling through the web store

and I happened upon a,

I believe it's just a Chrome extension

called Tabby Cat which is interesting,

because I actually have a tabby.

He's actually right next to me eating right now.

So if you hear crunching, that's him.

(laughs)

Um, furry Pocky. Oh, I like Pocky. Pocky's good.

Uh yeah let's add it to Chrome.

So I guess each time you open up a new tab

you get like a cute animal that pops up. (laughs)

It's called Tabby Cat apparently.

Um okay, so let's try it.

Ooh it's animated. Oh my gosh it's adorable.

Booby Cheerio, is that how you pronou...

Oh, Dooby, yeah Dooby. (laugh)

Back to the Dooby (laughs)

Uh, that's kinda cute. I like that.

Oh, Oh, Oh, he mean. Oh he mean.

Lovely Cookie.

Okay that's kinda uh.

Scoopy Dinosaur.

Oh, so there's a full screen button right on the keyboard.

That's cool and oh, um.

Oh, that's like an expose window switcher.

Kinda like in Mac OS or Windows.

That's cool you got like a little window switcher there

and you got a full screen button. Cool.

Here's those little keyboard shortcuts

I was talking about earlier.

And I must say I like how there's a little light

on the power button here.

Just a nice little touch.

Oh man I can't handle the cuteness of Glittery Bella.

Yeah that's a cute one she's spilled her ice cream. Aww.

Gotta get your ice cream back.

So yeah I'm calling this a win.

It was pretty simple to reset this thing

and get my own stuff on there so I'm sure the other owner

will be able to do that easily too.

Thanks Google for making it easy.

Well let me know what you think guys about Chrome OS

and Chromebooks in general.

I'm kind new to them never used them before today.

But I'm interested in your thoughts

so feel free to drop me a line down below.

Let's shut this bad boy down.

Fade to white.

That was pretty flawless and simple.

I think we're really defeating the curse now.

That was an easy one thanks for sticking with me

catch the crazy and pass it on.

Half Dollar Hunting - Odd Find Plus Silver! - Duration: 7:54.

well it's been Bank pickup day I've got a box a half's here got three boxes of

haves there got a couple of boxes of nickels there we've got a box of pennies

down there I'm actually hunting this box of pennies as we speak and I've already

checked those half dollars for Enders and there was no Anders in them but they

are my favorite Loomis olive green rolls unbelievable

doesn't mean anything's gonna be in them but it's still cool to have it got a full

box of those in months and I've got three boxes of them figured I'd open

this one will live for you guys just in case this NF string and sons box gives us

some love well first we got to make sure it is the NF string and Sons rolls it's

the box with the holes on the bottom and that's usually NF string and sons

although I did get a yellow Loomis box one time in these uh Harrisburg boxes

let's see what we got all right looks like a whole bunch of clad Enders but

you never know what's inside and you never know what's on the other side so

let's flip them around all right we've got them flipped over and I found

another as in not a lot of Enders on this side either so let's go ahead and

kick off the hunt with this roll and maybe we'll find some silver in zee rolls!

all right we've got this NF string and son rolls box the Harrisburg PA box

in the house ready to hunt we're leavin those three for now might hunt one with

this hunt that's why I'm showing them I pick up another box tomorrow so that'd

be a total of five boxes I'd like to have three for my live stream and I'd

like to have at least two hunted so not quite sure well get into this one if we

don't get a lot of finds I'll probably hunt one of these boxes for my grocery

store Bank just to kind of get a feel for it and see how it goes you know the

drill I'll start with this first roll and I'll loop you in along the way we're

on roll four guys and I already looked at it but I wanted to show you this look at

this thick coin so obviously when they're that thick they're usually a proof but

when I took a look at it and it's trashed it's completely trashed but

believe it or not it's got an "s" mint mark you can see it down there right now

1979 s and if I put it under the microscope let's go ahead and get the

mint mark showing you can see it right there it's an S so I'm gonna spend a few

minutes on this guy looks like he was caught in a fire something's happened to

him it is a proof probably not salvageable but I'd be curious to see if

we can get any of that original shine back let me go and see what I can do and

I'll bring it back in if I have some success there's no saving the proof guys

79 s um hydrogen peroxide bath warm soapy water

rubbing alcohol put a little bit of each on it three different steps didn't

really do anything but it is a proof and as bad as it is we're gonna rescue it

for a little while I don't think I need to 79 proof anyway but no reason to put

him back out there for someone else just to grab or to keep getting damaged even

worse let's get back to the hunt yeah roll number 26 has got an odd find for

me guys and I haven't looked at it yet I wanted to show you what I'm seeing here

I don't think that's a hammered out coin and shaped that way I think that might

be a foreign I've never seen a shape like that in a half dollar roll so let's

take a look estados unidos mexicanos so it's a Mexican coin diez

pesos ten pesos 1982 it's looking pretty clad to me let me do a little research

on this coin and I'll get back to you as expected it's copper nickel

so it's clad but it is a cool foreign find and I don't have one of these so

I'll take it nonetheless and we'll get back to the hunt roll number 32 guys and

we might have some silver right here we do 67 philadelphia nice I knew it might

have some luck when I got a beat up proof and a foreign I was like you know

what I've also got some NIFC's probably a pretty good chance that we'll find

some silver because man usually when you find some oddities you'll find some

silver plus we're finding a lot of burnt coins

so anyway silver in the box feels good to get one so far let's keep

looking well we finished that box a half dollars and you know what it was a

decent box we got five nifc's an '02 two threes two fours and a 2010 nothing past

2010 not all of them are keepers but wanted to show the finds we have three

keeper coins in my opinion that I'm gonna hold on to a 74 D in pretty good

shape a couple of dings on his cheek but outside of that I really think this is a

pretty nice coin and I don't find 74 D's in this condition it's not the double

die obverse I wish it was another bicentennial I'm really pretty picky on these but I

will take this one couple of superficial scratches that's to be expected is

circulated and then a brilliant 82 again superficial scratches but man if this

would have had been the 82 P no FG instead of the 82 d that've been

something as well the good finds of the box I say good finds we're gonna include

him in there because he is trying to show his little proof shine right there

you can see it so wish you would have came out better but what am i doing it's

not gonna give any more value to it it's just a '79 proof that has been in a

fire so we'll hold on to him for now I know I have a 79 s proof by the way this

is if you didn't know the type 1 there's type 1 type 2 some proofs for

half dollars and I believe 79 and 80 for sure the two years that they had them

either rounded or flat it's not the flat s it's the rounded if it'd have been the

rounded it would have had more value if it would have been in better condition

as well I'm really happy I found a foreign this is only my second ever foreign in a

half dollar box obviously lost a little bit of money in the deal it's only 10

pesos but it is an 82 and I didn't have that coin so I'm happy with it and then

finally the find of the box obviously any time you get silver you're

stoked it's hoping for one more especially when I got up to that corner

I thought maybe we'd have another roll with one we didn't but you know what I

don't get a lot of Silver's that are just Philadelphia's and I don't get a

lot of 67 either I wish it was a 65 or even earlier but I will take it it's in

really good shape still has a lot of luster and shine and I think it's

beautiful so we'll take that at the end of the day I know it's a quick hunt I've

decided to hold off on search in those boxes because I'm thinking that it's

best to leave them for the live stream if I decide to do another box I'll let

you know if you enjoy the hunt with me please give me a thumbs up and as always

everyone happy hunting and thanks for watching

Bobby Brown, he was hip-hop to me,

Sarah Huckabee Sanders Can't Explain Why Trump Surrounds Himself With Criminals - Duration: 4:18.

So Wednesday didn't go very well for Sarah Huckabee-Sanders after Trump's really, really

bad Tuesday, but that was to be expected.

Any time the president has a bad day, you can guarantee that Huckabee-Sanders is going

to have a very bad day after that.

Because she's the one that has to go up to that podium and answer all of the questions

about all of the horrible things the president has done, and Tuesday after the Manafort verdict,

the Cohen plea and his implication of Trump in a felony offense ... Yeah, it went exactly

as we would expect.

But one reporter there, asking about those issues, but asking it in a better way, I think,

that really caught Sarah Huckabee-Sanders off guard.

And the question, boiled down, is why do so many people associated with the president

end up going to prison?

And this is was Sarah Huckabee-Sanders had to say.

Here's the interaction.

Given that five convicted felons are now linked to the president, or his campaign, and given

that the president promised to hire the best people, did he fail to live up to that promise?

The president has employed thousands of people in his lifetime and had incredible successes

both in business and in the public service.

He's the president of the United States.

I think he's doing quite well.

My second question, Sarah.

Just to follow up because I understand that you don't want to answer the same question

a million times, and you've said the president did nothing illegal, but I didn't hear a response

to the question.

Did he lie to the American people when he talked about this on Air Force One?

No, and the president's addressed this a number of times.

So, yeah!

Okay, the guy's had lots of people that work for him.

And most of them aren't in jail right now, so why don't we focus on them?

Why don't we talk about the people who aren't out there committing felonies or implicating

the president in criminal activity?

Because that's not what the issue is here.

But, yeah, Sarah.

Seriously.

A lot of the higher up people who have surrounded the president are going to jail.

That does seem like a problem.

It's something I've pointed out before, too.

How is it that a man as allegedly innocent as Donald Trump still manages to surround

himself with people who are committing felonies left and right?

Eight counts guilty for Manafort, would have been all 18 had the one MAGA holdout in the

jury not continuously referred to it as a witch hunt.

Don't know if you've seen that story, but that's out there today, so there's a tainted

juror for you.

Cohen, eight counts.

Papadopoulos, Flynn ... Who else is out there?

Rick Gates.

Yeah, a lot of them.

Pretty much everybody who's every been strongly associated with the president is gonna end

up in jail.

I think that's worth an answer.

Instead, 41 times out of the last 100 times that Huckabee-Sanders has been asked about

any of Trump's legal questions, problems I should say, 41 times she has directed them

to the president's outside counsel.

And we all know who the outside counsel is, right?

That's Rudy Giuliani.

So Huckabee-Sanders is actually telling reporters, which she did multiple times in Wednesday's

press briefing, "I have to refer you to the outside counsel."

You're gonna have to talk to Rudy Giuliani about that, because he knows more about it

than I do.

He's better equipped to discuss it.

Trust me, Sarah, as horrible of a human being as you are, you are still likely more knowledgeable

about the law than a guy like Rudy Giuliani.

I don't think anybody wants to spend any time having to ask him actual questions about how

corrupt the president is unless, of course, they want Giuliani to admit that Donald Trump

committed even more crimes, which seems to be the only thing that man is capable of saying

when he goes out there and does interviews.

But, yeah.

We need to focus on the fact that everybody around the president seems to be dropping

like flies, and just because thousands of people have worked for his companies in the

past and didn't end up in jail ... It doesn't mean that the higher ups who are going to

jail don't matter.

FAMOUS GRAVE TOUR - Rose Hills (Eazy-E, Ron Glass, etc.) - Duration: 27:57.

Welcome to Hollywood Graveyard, where we set out to remember and celebrate the

lives of those who lived to entertain us, by visiting their final resting places.

Today we're exploring Rose Hills Memorial Park where we'll find such

stars as Ron Glass, Eazy-E, Thuy Trang, and many more. Join us, won't you?

Rose Hills Memorial Park is located about 30 miles east of Hollywood in

Whittier, California. Forest Lawn Glendale may be the granddaddy of cemeteries in

LA, but in terms of sheer acreage, Rose Hills has a beat. Let me tell you this

cemetery is massive. It boasts some 1,400 acres and the claim of being the largest

single location cemetery in America. But worldwide, the Wadi-us-Salaam cemetery

in Iraq has it beat... just barely. So if you're gonna stroll Rose Hills, bring

extra water and extra sunscreen, and just to be safe, a full tank of gas. Rose Hills

was founded in 1914 as Whittier Heights Memorial Park on 18 acres in the city of

Whittier. As the population around it grew, so too did Rose Hills. Across the

expansive grounds of the cemetery are a number of chapels whose architecture

reflects the decades of their construction, mausoleums echoing early

Spanish California, and gardens honoring various faiths and cultures, including

the beautiful Buddhist columbarium featuring one of the largest Buddhist

pagodas in the United States.

Rose Hills took a cue from Hollywood with this massive neon sign. Built in the

early 40s these twenty foot tall letters can be seen for miles

both by day and night, when the neon letters glow rose red. In the years since

pilots have come to rely on the glowing sign as a visual reference as they fly overhead.

High on these hills east of LA on a clear day you can see Hollywood and

downtown LA from here way off in the distance...

It's not a clear day.

This cemetery is huge, so we'd better get rolling if we're going to cover it all

before the Sun sets.

Entering the main gate our first stop is in the Garden of

Peace, the third section on the right. In the southern tip of this section next to

the road we find actor Jack Larson, who is best remembered today for playing

young Daily Planet reporter, Jimmy Olsen, alongside George Reeves in The

Adventures of Superman in the 1950s.

"Well, that should hold them 'til I can signal Coast Guard."

"Superman, what's the matter with you?"

"Here, Jimmy, you'd better hold this."

"Superman, will you please get down there and save Mr.Kent!"

"I'll never forgive you if he drowns."

"All right, I'm going. But I'm finished here, and I won't be back."

After that show ended he focused mainly on

work behind the camera, writing and producing, but later in life would return

to Metropolis in cameo appearances, like in Lois and Clark, and Superman Returns.

His life partner was writer/director James Bridges of Urban Cowboy fame.

Back to Rose Hills Drive we go right then take the second right to find the

Garden of Prayer on the right. At the top of this hill next to the road we find

master costume designer DonFeld. He was nominated for an Oscar four times for

his costume designs. His work can be seen in films from Days of Wine and Roses, to

Spaceballs. He also designed the costumes for the Wonder Woman series in

the 70s, starring Lynda Carter.

Let's round the corner to the southwest section of this same lawn. This next

marker is a little hard to read but, here lies Albert Haskell.

He was a character actor who appeared in hundreds of film and TV

roles in his career, often in small background roles in westerns like the

Cisco Kid and the Lady, and TV shows including Bonanza and Gunsmoke. If there

was a Western production in the 30s through the 60s there's a good chance

you'd spot Al sitting somewhere in the saloon drinking a whiskey.

Two sections southeast of here is the Garden of Affection. Straight in from a trash bin

resembling a tree trunk, near the middle of this lawn, we find Alvin Ailey. He was

a renowned African-American dancer and choreographer, credited for helping

popularize modern dance. In 1958 he founded the Alvin Ailey American Dance

Theatre in New York. His signature work is "Revelations," which premiered in 1960.

It's a performance set to blues and spiritual music which explores the faith

and tenacity of African-American culture. It has since become one of the most

popular and widely seen modern dances in the world. Ailey died at the age of 58

from complications of HIV, and in 2014 was posthumously awarded the

Presidential Medal of Freedom.

If we take the next left, then right past the Memorial Chapel, we find the Memorial

Chapel Gardens on the left. In a few spaces from the road is Keye Luke. He was

one of the most prominent Asian American actors in the mid 20th century, but he

actually began his career painting illustrations and murals for movie

houses, like the garden fairy tales at Grauman's Chinese Theatre. As an actor he

played "number one son," Lee Chan, in the Charlie Chan films of the 30s, and was

the original Kato in the Green Hornet serial. On TV he can be seen as Master Po

on Kung-Fu. And younger audiences will also recognize him as Mr. Wing on The Gremlins.

West of here are The Gardens. Here we'll stop to remember actress Thuy Trang.

She was born in Vietnam and forced to flee Saigon when she was two,

her family eventually granted political asylum in the US as refugees.

She studied kung fu as a child, the perfect preparation for her role for

which he would become best known: as Trini, the Yellow Ranger, in

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.

"I've gotta morph...

Saber-tooth tiger!"

She can also be seen in The Crow: City of Angels.

In 2001 she died in a car accident accident outside San Francisco.

She was just 27, making her a part of the

ill-fated 27 Club - stars who all died tragically young at the age of 27,

including Kurt Cobain, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, Amy Winehouse, Anton Yelchin,

Jonathan Brandis, and more. Thuy was cremated after her death, her ashes

either scattered or interred here in this garden, though there is no marker for her.

Take a moment to stop and listen to this impressive fountain.

It sounds like a freight train.

Back again to Rose Hills Drive, we follow it around and up the hill to the Sunshine

Terrace section on the left.

Not far in, up the hill a short ways on the right, we find the grave of Timothy Carey.

He was a character actor best known for portraying psychotics, crazies,

despots, sleazy criminals, and the like. He played sociopath, Nikki Arane

in Stanley Kubrick's The Killing in 1956. And he would also spoof his psychotic on-screen

image in comedies like Beach Blanket Bingo, and the Monkees movie, Head.

One of his best-known works, a grindhouse film, was The World's Greatest Sinner, which he

also wrote and directed. Carey was a favorite of director Quentin Tarantino,

who dedicated the movie Reservoir Dogs to him, among others, as a source of inspiration.

Doubling back let's make our way around to the SkyRose Chapel.

High on this hill this impressive Chapel, built in 1997, overlooks the cemetery and

hosts many of the funerals here.

The main level also features a mausoleum.

Straight across the street from the chapel, down the hill a short ways, we

find singing cowboy Ken Carson. He was a western musician

perhaps best known for his association with The Sons of the Pioneers, appearing

with the group in a number of Roy Rogers films in the 40s, and in

Hollywood Canteen in 1944.

[music]

He also voiced the wise old owl in Disney's

So Dear to My Heart.

Continuing north along this road, then right, we find the North Star section.

Right near the road and sidewalk is the grave of Bryan Gregory. He was founding

member and guitar player of the band The Cramps,

which formed in 1976. They were pioneers of the early punk rock and psychobilly genres.

[music]

He left the band in the 80s to play with other groups, and even got to play a

zombie in George A. Romero's Day of the Dead.

He died of heart failure at the age of 49.

The section straight north of here is Alpine Terrace.

About a third of the way

up the hill we find the grave of Haing Ngor. He was a Cambodian doctor who was

imprisoned in a concentration camp under the Khmer Rouge, the country's brutal

communist regime, which did not look kindly on intellectuals. To escape

execution he denied being a doctor and having an education. While imprisoned his

wife died in childbirth, Ngor unable to treat her despite being a gynecologist.

After the fall of the Khmer Rouge he worked as a doctor in a refugee camp in

Thailand before making his way to the US. Despite having no acting experience he

was cast in the powerful biographical drama, The Killing Fields, in 1984.

It was there the war-torn countryside amidst the fighting between government troops

and the Khmer Rouge guerrillas that I met my guide and interpreter, Dith Pran, a

man who was to change my life in a country that I grew to love and pity.

The role earned him an Oscar, the second Asian actor to win the honor,

and allowed him to help tell the story of Cambodia to the world. As fate is

often cruel in its irony, Haing Ngor survived the brutality of Cambodia only

to die in Los Angeles, shot dead on the streets of Chinatown by members of the

Oriental lazyboy Street game they demanded his jewelry, but when he refused

to hand over the heart locket containing a photo of his wife, a locket he wore at

all times he was shot. Some believe, however, the murder may have been a

politically motivated assassination rather than a botched robbery.

Whatever the case it was a tragic end to an extraordinary life. Ngor was 55.

Doubling back let's make our way around to the south to the Mission Hills section.

Just south of the gazebo we find Lupe Ontiveros. She was an actress, often

playing maids or the all-knowing grandmother, in films like The Goonies

and shows like Desperate Housewives. Ontiveros once estimated she had

played a maid on screen around 150 times, noting she was proud to represent those

hands that labor in this country. She's also known for playing convicted

murderer Yolanda Saldivar in the film Selena, opposite Jennifer Lopez.

Let's make our way northeast of here to the Terrace of the Seasons.

In the northeast corner of this lawn close to the road,

we find the legendary Ron Glas.

He made appearances on shows like Good Times and Sanford and Son before landing the role

for which he would be best known: as detective Harris in the police comedy,

Barney Miller.

"Think you can still function?"

"Hey, sharp as a tack."

"Take these things, get them analyzed, fast."

"Not that way!"

"I think they've got hash in them, Barn."

"Hash!?"

'From the way that I feel."

After Barney Miller he would appear in shows like

Family Matters, and as a series regular on Firefly. He also voiced Randy

Carmichael on Rugrats and All Grown Up. He died in 2016.

We make our way now

northwest to the Monte Vista Terrace section. Not far from the northern road

we find the grave of musician Louis Johnson. He was a bass player and half of

the music group The Brothers Johnson, a funk Motown band also featuring his

brother, George. Their hits include "I'll Be Good to You," and "Stomp!"

He also played with and did session work for a number of artists, from

Aretha Franklin to Michael Jackson.

His is the infectious bassline in "Billie Jean."

[music]

Let's continue to follow this outermost road to the west,

then make a left after the Garden of Gratitude,

and find this memorial bench garden on the left.

Mari Young performed the role of Liat in the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical South Pacific.

Mari's not interred here, but chose to erect this bench as a way to

thank her fans.

Back up to the northern outer road we follow it along to the

northwest and reach Lupine Lawn on the left.

Near the northern end of this lawn, up the

the hill a ways, is the grave of the godfather of gangster rap, Eazy-E, real

name Eric Wright. In 1986 he founded Ruthless Records. Teaming up with Dr. Dre,

Arabian Prince, Ice Cube, and later DJ Yella and MC Ren, he formed NWA in the

mid 80s, becoming one of the early and most influential hip-hop groups and

popularizers of gangsta rap. In 1988 the group released Straight Outta Compton.

It would become one of the highest rated hip-hop albums of all time.

[music]

After NWA disbanded, Eazy-E had a successful solo career, but his career was cut short when

he was diagnosed with HIV in 1995. He died one month after his diagnosis at

the age of 31. He was buried in a gold coffin wearing a flannel shirt jeans and

a Compton hat. Eazy was portrayed by Jason Mitchell in

the 2015 film Straight Outta Compton.

Continuing along this outer road, then left, we reach Primrose Lawn on the right.

Oh look, a coyote!

Maybe this is the guy Eden warned us about.

He seems nice enough though...

just wants to be part of our tour, I guess.

If he comes calling again I will name him two socks.

Down the hill a few rows, not far from a large tree, we find the grave of Robin Stille,

sometimes credited as Robin Rochelle.

She was an actress, best known for delightfully trashy horror B-films of

the 80s, like The Slumber Party Massacre,

and Sorority Babes in the Slimeball Bowl-o-Rama.

She took her own life in 1996 at the age of 34.

Southwest of here is Alder section.

On the left, close to a large tree, we find the grave of silent

film actress Clara Horton. The baby-faced actress began performing in silent

shorts at the age of 8 for the Eclair American film company, earning her the

moniker "The Eclair Girl." After years of playing ingenues in films like Tom

Sawyer, she began playing western heroines in the 20s. She all but retired

when the talkies debuted, save for a few bit parts.

Heading back toward the entrance

we take the next right to reach the Pinecrest section along the fence.

Just past a tree we find the grave of David Torres. He was a Latin

jazz musician who, beginning in 1989, was music director of the Poncho Sanchez

Latin jazz band. His work earned him a Grammy Award. He also toured with a

number of groups and arranged and performed music for soundtracks of film

and TV programs.

Rose Hills is broken up into several main blocks along Workman Mill Road, the

entrances to the sections denoted by numbered gates.

To continue the tour we'll

exit the main gate and head down to gate 8, and the Cedarcrest lawn on the left.

Here we find actor, Lewis Arquette, a member of the Arquette dynasty of

entertainers on stage and screen. Lewis played JD Pickett on The Waltons, and

made guest appearances on many of the great shows of the era, from Barney Miller

to Seinfeld as Leapin' Larry. His children all became actors: Rosanna,

Richmond, Patricia, Alexis, and David Arquette. And he could

often be seen alongside them on screen, like Patricia in Little Nicky, and David

in Scream 2.

Let's continue southwest through gate 9 and into 10,

then left to find the Lakeview mausoleum and the Columbarium of the Seasons.

Way up at the top is the niche of Gladys Hulette.

She was a silent film star who began

performing on stage not long after she could walk. On screen she appeared in one

of the very early filmed versions of Romeo and Juliet

in 1908, and in 1909 starred in Carl Laemmle's Hiawatha. By the teens and

twenties she'd become one of the silent screen's more popular starlets, in films

like Prudence the Pirate. She retired from the screen in 1934.

Back the other way we find the Mausoleum of the Valley.

On the lawn just right of the sidewalk

is Bobby Beard, best known as Cotton from the Our Gang shorts. He can be seen in

five Our Gang films from 1932 to 1934. Bobby was brother of a family of little

rascal siblings, including Stymie.

Let's stop and admire the beautiful Lake of the Roses at the heart of this section

before moving on.

Continuing down this northern road we reach the Court of Eternal Light on

the right. On the right side is a columbarium where we find the niche of

Mary Gordon. She was a Scottish actress, perhaps best remembered for playing

housekeeper, Mrs. Hudson, in the popular Sherlock Holmes films of the 30s and 40s

alongside Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce.

She can also be seen in the Bride of Frankenstein as Hans' wife.

A quick left and we reach Cypress lawn on the left.

A dozen or so rows in is the grave of Griff Barnett, a strong supporting

actor who often played lawyers, judges, or doctors. He played Doc Joe in Pinky, and

the judge in Angel Face. He also made appearances on TV shows

like Hopalong Cassidy and The Lone Ranger.

Let's head out Gate 11, turn right, and make our way around to

gate 17, then a quick left to double back to gate 14 which was closed. Just in from

gate 14 is the Whittier Heights mausoleum, the first mausoleum here and

Southern California's second public indoor mausoleum. It was opened in 1917,

completed in the Spanish Renaissance style with imported Italian marble.

Following this curvy road around to the left we find Myrtle Lawn on the left.

Down the hill a few rows is Froggy from Our Gang, Billy Laughlin. He played the

part of the gravel-voiced bespectacled little rascal from 1940 to 1944 in the

series' final years.

Billy died in 1948 when a scooter he was riding on was

struck by a truck. He was only 16.

Curving back around to

the right we follow the yellow line road toward the rainbow chapel.

"Follow the yellow brick road."

Just before the mausoleum is the Memorial Urn Garden on the right.

Here we find actor William Hopper.

Fans of the popular legal drama series, Perry Mason, will recognize Hopper

as Paul Drake - a role he played in nearly 300 episodes.

He also played Natalie Wood's father in Rebel Without a Cause. William was son of

gossip columnist Hedda Hopper, who pushed him into acting.

East of here, at the end of the yellow line road,

is the Rainbow Chapel and Portal de la Paz Mausoleum.

This is Rose Hills' second mausoleum, dedicated in 1930 and

built to reflect California's early Spanish mission architecture.

It features hand-painted ceilings, carved wood furnishings, and stained-glass windows.

It's a hidden gem here in Southern California.

We found one famous grave here in the Portal de la Paz. Taking the Santa

Barbara corridor on the left, into the columbarium on the right, is the niche of

songbird, Ellen Beach Yaw, known as Lark Ellen. She was a soprano, renowned for her

vocal range, able to produce seemingly inhumanly high notes. In 1899 she

originated the title role in Arthur Sullivan's comic opera, The Rose of Persia,

and went on to perform in operas and concerts throughout Europe and the

United States. She was also a songwriter, and at the dawn of the recording age, a

popular recording artist as well. Phonograph inventor, Thomas Edison, even

invited her to his lab to record her vocal range.

[music]

Back down the yellow line road we reach Whispering Pines Lawn on the left.

At the base of the hill where the Hillside Chapel stands is the grave of Hugh Prosser.

He was a supporting actor, often in western movies like Hopalong Cassidy

films and also many of the Great Western TV shows like The Lone Ranger and

The Cisco Kid.

He died in an automobile accident in 1952 at the age of 46.

Finally we make our way around to the southeast to the Valley View Lawn.

Up the hill a short ways, not far from a tree, is Dorothy Abbott. Her career

began as a showgirl for Earl Carroll and in Las Vegas, where she earned the rather

unusual nickname, The Girl with the Golden Arm." Her early film roles were in

a similar vein: background dancers, chorus girls, waitresses, etc. She had a starring

role in the exploitation film, A Virgin in Hollywood. On TV she had a number of

roles in Dragnet, The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet, and Leave It to Beaver.

Her husband was Rudy Diaz, who, in addition to acting, was a narcotics and homicide

detective in LA - one of the first to arrive at the scene of Marilyn Monroe's death.

Dorothy suffered from depression after

their marriage ended, and she took her own life at the age of 47.

And that concludes our tour.

So there's reportedly a strange phenomenon here at Rose Hills that I'd

like to explore with you guys. This is what's known as "Gravity Hill." Now, for my

perspective this road appears to be angled downward. But if we stop the car,

put it in neutral, take our foot off the gas and off the brakes, the car will

appear to roll backwards up the hill against gravity. Again, the car is in neutral.

And there are theories as to how this happens:

some say it's an optical illusion.

Others believe that this hill is haunted.

What do you think it is?

Effective Search Strategies: Use Subject Terms - Fall 2018 - Duration: 0:45.

QuickSearch will also give you some suggestions for keywords.

If you click on the title of one of the results, you get a more complete record.

The record tells you more about who wrote the article, where it was published, and more.

One of the useful tools on this screen is the subjects and the author supplied keywords that are listed.

These may provide suggestions for other search terms that you might use in additional searches.

Maybe I should try gender inequality

instead of gender gap.

Remember that librarians can also help recommend keywords.

Effective Search Strategies: Database Limiters - Fall 2018 - Duration: 1:18.

One tip for narrowing your results in QuickSearch is to put quotes around phrases.

For example, I can put quotes around "gender gap" and "united states" in my search.

Think of the quotes as glue. The quotes tell the database to search for these words together in this exact order

One advantage QuickSearch has over Google is the ability to easily limit your results by date,

type of resource, publisher, peer-review, language and other factors.

You can limit by 1, 2 or a variety of things. You can use the timeline to find more recent articles

If you're interested only in scholarly journals then check the box labeled scholarly journals (peer-reviewed) to update your results.

Now you can see that all of your results will have the academic journal icon with them.

If you need any help with any of the strategies in this video please use our Ask a Librarian service.

What kind of balls to shoot a sniper in airsoft? Test BLS, AimTop,Madbull, SpecnaArms - Duration: 14:04.

Hello everyone.

I got to serious sniper balls

and made measurements and a little review

Certainly there are errors in the measurements

I did not find the instruments, although I was looking for

But for me it was enough

I concluded for myself

I hope it will be useful for you too,

In the measurements involved 6 kinds of balls

AimTop 43, MadBull 43, SpecnaArms 43, BLS 43, BLS 45, Chinese balls 40

The first thing I measured was size of balls.

And accordingly the frequency this size.

deviation from the figure 5.95mm I did not take into account,

looked it was similar

between each other

The table is highlighted in green maximum amount

identical in size, yellow deviation by one hundredth, orange

on two hundredths, and red on 3 or more hundredths.

The next parameter is roundness of balls.

I did several measurements each ball and recorded

maximum deviations on each ball.

In the table Green deviation on the one hundredth, yellow by 2 hundredths,

Orange 3, 4 or more hundredth of a difference

is red.

The third parameter is the weight balls.

The figures are in hundredths of a gram.

The table is highlighted in green maximum amount

identical weights, yellow deviation by one hundredth, orange

on two hundredths.

In addition to the final evaluation, for non-compliance with the claimed

I added 1 and 2 balls to the weight Aim top and Chinese balls.

Subjective assessment of brittleness ball.

I assigned 1 ball if the ball came off easily

and 2 points if the ball was pierced easily and into small pieces.

In the final table I placed places for each parameter.

The first in size is the number deviations from the most

repeatable size of the ball.

The second largest is the amount all deviations from the most

repeatable size of the ball.

The third roundness of the ball - the sum of all differences in size

each ball (hopefully understandable that was meant)

Fourth by weight number deviations from the most

repeated weight of the ball.

Fifth by weight - the sum of all deviations from the most

repeat weight of the ball Sixth brittleness - Subjective

evaluation of the fragility of the ball.

I assigned 1 ball if the ball came off easily and 2 points

if the ball was pierced easily and into small pieces.

Polishing I did not make in the final table, you can

estimate by video and add to the table for

yourself.

As a result of all evaluations: First place with a big

pulling off the ball BLS 45 Second place - BLS 43

Third place MadBull Fourth place SpecnaArms

Fifth cheap Chinese orbs

Sixth place balls AimTop
