In this video, I'll show you 3 different ways to fix the error that happens when opening
an Adobe Premiere project in some systems where, out of nowhere, it tells us that the
project is gonna open without GPU acceleration. First, I want to make clear that this is
only for situations where you COULD correcly work with acceleration before, but it just
stops recognizing it and gives this error. Before explaining why does it happen and
manual ways of fixing it, for those who want a fast fix, I'll leave a ".bat" file in the description
so you can download and execute it. It will automatically run a workaround and open
Premiere without the failure. This ".bat", must be opened with right click and,
then, Run as administrator. I'll explain soon what does it do,
what you can simply know by reading its code with notepad.
Just in case you're a security obsessed as I am. Careful! There's one ".bat" for each
Premiere CC version. One for 2015 y other for 2017. And it works only if Premiere was
installed in the default folder. Let's start by reproducing this error.
It usually happens in Windows 10 with ATI graphic cards, while using Hard Drive
instead of SSD. Here we have a project that I'm working on. You may see that GPU acceleration
is active. You can check it by simply going to "File", "Project settings", "General"
GPU rendering is ON, and I have the OPTION of using "Only software".
But let's REBOOT the system. First time after a reboot,
like we're doing now, Premiere will call a component called
"GpuSniffer". This will check the hardware, like the graphic card we've installed,
to detect which of its capacities should it use, and tell Premiere how will it
work, then. What I see, under my tests, is that,
on low performances, like using hard drivers, Premiere will open before GPUsniffer finishes
ginving its completes results, and so it believes we don't have acceleration available.
So how can we make Premiere recognize our GPU every time we open it?
Well, first of all, Adobe should stop testing it's sofware on the most expensive Ferraries,
and try with an average computer... Like those that you and me have. But, as it may never happen,
let's understand something: Gpu Sniffer DOES correctly recognize our GPU acceleration capability.
That's why we could use it before. It's just that, this time,
Premiere couldn't know it at launch time. Easiest solution, then, and it works
in almost all cases, is just to completely close Premiere without
making any change to the project, check that the process ended correctly,
and open Premiere again. GpuSniffer won't run this time, because it already gave its "veredict".
So Premiere will use hardware acceleration.
But, just in case this doesn't work for someone, another solution would be manually running GPU sniffer
as administratior. You can find it on the same folder where Premiere is installed,
so it check the system and, once it finished, start Premiere. This is
exactly what the ".bat" I've gave you at the start of this video does, automatically.
Finally, for those who believe the third time's the charm, and the previous solutions didn't work,
another option to try would simply be opening the project
on which Premiere won't recognize acceleration, and save a new copy of it. For that, we will go to
"File", "Save as...", and we save it with a new name. Then we completely close Premiere.
Then, we open that new copy we've just saved. It should now work correctly. A lot have
reported this last one was the solution. I just believe it's a long way of doing just the same
we did before. But it may be actually doing some weird "cleaning" of corrupted data when saving it again.
