Snapchat Databse may be Compromised - 1.7 Million user data at threat - Snapchat App

Downrated

After Former Snapchat employee alleged that Snapchat CEO Evan Spiegel called India poor,

Boycott Snapchat and uninstall snapchat is trending on Twitter.

So what is the latest news about snapchat and Evan Spiegel?.

Snapchat denies calling India a poor country, but

an anonymous India Hacking group claims of leaking snapchat user data.

Apparently, users down rating Snapchat on app stores.

#BoycottSnapchat is trending on Twitter India.

The popular social networking platform is facing an outrage from its Indian users

after a former Snapchat employee alleged that CEO Evan Spiegel was not interesting in expanding

the business to poor countries like India and that the app was meant for only

rich people. Snapchat, however, has turned down the allegations.

This is ridiculous.

Obviously Snapchat is for everyone!

Its available worldwide to download for free, said a Snap Inc. spokesperson in

a statement given to a blog.

The company has also responded to Pomplianos other claim in his lawsuit filed at a US court

in January that Snapchat showed inflated user data and was misinformed about key

metrics. Snapchat may not be as big as Facebook or WhatsApp in India, but is quite

popular.

According to several media reports, Snapchats user base in India is around 4 million.

Currently, Snapchat is under immense pressure to improvise as its several iconic features

are being ripped off by social networking giant, Facebook.

Already, Instagram Stories has hit 200 million users, surpassing Snapchats.

As expected, Spiegels alleged comment didnt go down well with its Indian users.

Just like the Aamir Khan-Snapdeal controversy, people have started a campaign on Twitter

to encourage everyone to uninstall the Snapchat application.

Some are even claiming to have given poor ratings to the application on the

app store.

A quick glance at the reviews section of these app stores will show a bunch of

comments outraging against Spiegels comments.

At the time of publishing this story, Snapchats rating on Google Play store is 4 whereas

on iOS it has just one star from 6099 ratings for the current version.

After all these Indian hacker group leaks data of 1.7 million Snapchat users after CEOs

poor country comments: Report Miffed with Snapchat CEOs alleged comments

on expansion by calling India a poor country, Indian hackers claim to leak data of 1.7

million users.

Snapchat, the popular social networking platform for sharing photo and video status recently

came into news for wrong reasons.

#BoycottSnapchat and #Uninstall_Snapchat were trending on Twitter over the weekend, with

the platform facing outrage from Indian users.

The issue came under the light after a former Snapchat employee alleged that CEO Evan Spiegel

had no plans to expand the business to poor countries like

India, and the app was only meant for rich people. Now, the Anonymous Indian hacker

group has reportedly claimed to leak the database of

1.7 million Snapchat users.

Last year, the Indian hacking group found some vulnerabilities in Snapchats database

after which they siphoned details of nearly 1.7

million users, DailyMail reports.

To mark their resentment against Spiegels remarks for India, the hacker group made the

Snapchat database of 1.7 million users available on

the darknet.

The hackers are among one of the top bug bounty hunters looking to find

vulnerabilities in software and services of IT giants.

The hackers had found the bug last year, but never used the data.

However, the arrogance of CEO Spiegel miffed them,

the publication reports.

Also, until Spiegel apologizes for his remarks, the group threatens to carry out an intensive

strike against the company.

While the hackers claim to have leaked the data, Snapchat is yet to confirm any successful

data breach or leak yet.
