Greetings Earthlings! Welcome to the MadQueen show!
I am your host the MadQueen
On today's menu, we have a new Cyberpunk 2077 or maybe Witcher video for you,
and today we're going to talk about mobile games development
The Polish developer CD Projekt, who you know
for the Witcher saga and their upcoming video game Cyberpunk 2077 like we talked about anything
else in here, recently acquired the mobile game developer Spokko
by acquiring the majority of their stock
This new acquisition was announced on August 20th, in the official CD Projekt
web, and Spokko is now to be considered the newest member of the CD Projekt Capital group
In an interview with Games Industry, the CEO of CD Projekt Adam Kiciński, explained this
new venture saying:
We have known the people behind Spokko for several years, they approached
us with an interesting idea based on one of our brands - an idea we decided to invest in
We want to expand our business with innovative concepts and solutions, and the vision presented
to us by the Spokko team represents an entirely novel creative angle
The new studio will be largely independent
We intend to provide it with a distinct identity
and creative autonomy, in line with the philosophy
which has long guided the actions of the CD Projekt Group
During the Pareto Security Gaming seminar
on past February 22nd, Adam Kiciński already mentioned the intention of the company to
develop free to play games based on their two IPs Cyberpunk and Witcher, we talked about
that back in the day, so this really isn't a surprise
At Arasaka we value the safety of your home
Your new Arasaka Personal Home Scanner
is next generation threat detection equipment
that responds to potential threats in miliseconds
to keep you and your family safe
Arasaka Feel protected
These were the facts, now we go for the speculation
If you've been here for a while you already know that I've been talking about
the possibility of a mobile game based on the universe of Cyberpunk for long
Let's talk about it
Even if the first intention of CD Projekt
was to have Spokko developing something for Gwent, who buys a company to develop just
one game? When ages ago, CD Projekt said that they liked the way Bethesda handled the release
of Fallout 4, although the President of CD Projekt already clarified, very clearly, that
they didn't mean the timing, because if you remember, Fallout 4 was announced at E3
and released November same year and, according to Kiciński, these are not the plans for
Cyberpunk 2077 and I guess you already realized that because the E3 where Cyberpunk was introduced
happened more than 2 months ago, so, the most notorious and successful hit of Bethesda's
announcement wasn't the timing, was the incredible success of the mobile game that
they created to advertise Fallout 4, called Fallout Shelter, a mobile game that, according
to the industry analyst Sensor Towers, made 90 million dollars since it was released in 2015
Ok again: 90 million dollars
For a game which main intention was to be used to advertise
Fallout 4, but that ended up being a goldmine, so I don't believe that it would come as
a surprise if CD Projekt took very good note of that happening
Who wouldn't
So, the acquisition of the Spokko studio most probably mean that we will soon see spin-off
games of the Witcher and/or Cyberpunk 2077
and you can believe me when I say that I really want this to happen
I always pictured a Cyberpunk mobile game that introduced people
to this universe, that would make great advertising for Cyberpunk 2077 because I'm constantly
reading comments of people that have trouble understanding something that is so complex
and so different to our universe, and if it's also an economic success, even better
So, bring it on!
Well, folks, thanks for watching
Talking about understanding the Cyberpunk 2077 universe,
