-What's up? -What's up, Seth?

-Good to see you guys. -Hi.

-Hi. -Hi.

-You are bundled up, Michael Che.

-Yeah, man. I'm not used to this weather.

-Really? -I'm from the Island.

[ Laughter ]

Manhattan Island. -Yeah.

-You guys are actually both from the islands.

You're from the island of Manhattan.

-That's right.

-And you're from the island of Staten.

-Yeah. -Yeah.

[ Laughter ] -Sounds just as tropical, right?

-Yeah. Well, they --

Now JetBlue goes direct to Staten Island, so...

-JetBlue has ferry service now.

I was gonna come out and wear --

I was gonna wear a Hawaiian shirt,

but he talked me out of it. -Really?

-And say that I was more dressing for the job I wanted.

-Oh, gotcha. -Versus this, but then he --

-And the job you wanted is "Magnum P.I."

[ Laughter ] -Yeah.

Why not? -What job do I want? Panhandler?

[ Laughter ]

I should be selling batteries on a D train.

-I was so -- You guys had a month off,

which is unheard of in my 10 years, which is --

-No, we never left. -You had a month off.

Did you enjoy yourselves? -Uh, yeah.

[ Laughter ] -Okay.

You didn't go anywhere.

-Yeah, I had to see a lot of family.

That wasn't fun. -Really?

-Yeah, 'cause, you know, they just tell me

who else they think is funny. -Oh, really?

I know -- I know what you're talking about.

-Yeah, that's not fun to hear. -Yeah.

Do you think that happens with athletes, like when --

-"You know who's fast?" and stuff like that.

-Yeah. Or like Eli Manning at, like,

Thanksgiving dinner, someone's like, "You know who's great?

Tom Brady." Like, do you think he --

[ Light laughter ] -100%.

-You think 100%.

-I mean, based on your own -- don't you think 100%?

Based on knowing any family. -I think they must.

-You know who says that to him is Peyton Manning.

-Peyton does, yeah. [ Laughter ]

As a super burn.

I had a lovely time.

I got to come back and host this year.

It was so fun to be back with you guys.

-Yeah, it was great. -Got to come back

on the "Update" desk, which was for me the highlight.

I'm not gonna call it a low light, but it was not --

in the end, did not turn out to be a highlight.

You wrote a sketch for me. -[ Laughing ] Yeah.

-I should point out, it was not new business.

-No, I wrote it probably about 12 years ago.

-And you resubmitted it for me, because --

-And I thought, "Only you could do this sketch."

-Well, I -- the actor you originally wrote it for

is someone that I think a lot of people mistake me for,

and so it made sense that you would try it again with me.

-Well, originally, it was Taylor Lautner.

[ Laughter ]

So I was like, "Who else is in sort of the 'Twilight' space?"

[ Laughter ] -Yeah. Same fan base.

-You read as a classic "Twilight."

-And I was there for that, so I knew,

"Oh, Jost submitted a Taylor Lautner sketch for me."

-Yeah. So, you're welcome.

-Do you want to explain the premise of Manny Manimal?

-Well, should we -- -Manny Manimal.

-Sure. -Manny Manimal.

-Manny Manimal. His name was Manny something.

He worked at the radioactive lab

where, like, Spider-Man had been bitten by a spider.

-Yeah, the radioactive spider. -So, this guy,

after he was bitten by the radioactive spider,

he was also bitten by a radioactive raccoon,

a starfish... -Yep.

[ Laughter ] -...a pelican...

-Yep. -...a couple snakes...

-Yep. -I think there were like

three squirrels?

-And then he died, and a gorilla had sex with his dead body.

-Yes. [ Audience groans ]

-Then brought him -- -And then he was revived

by a radioactive parrot. He was given CPR.

-And so, unlike Spider-Man -- -This isn't a real guy.

-Yeah. [ Laughter ]

Yeah, don't worry. -They're like, "Aww."

[ Laughter ]

-But anyways, then he is a superhero.

He was Manny Manimal, the man of many animals.

-Yes. [ Laughter ]

And you mentioned Emmy-nominated at the beginning, right?

-Yeah, yeah, yeah. -Okay. Great, great.

-And also, so his name is Manny Manimal,

the man of many animals, but also his first name was Manny.

[ Laughter ] Which was unnecessary.

-Very unnecessary. -Yeah.

-I think I found that late in the writing process.

-One of the great costumes of all-time.

-Yes. -There you go.

-I mean... [ Laughter ]

-And I will say, great opening title sequence.

-Yeah. -Comes out in this.

Audience goes crazy. -Yeah.

-And then what would you describe the audience

for the rest of the sketch? -Nightmarish?

-Yeah. [ Laughter ]

-Basically, they were so excited to see a real superhero,

and then you basically immediately started

coughing up blood, because that was the premise.

-Yeah. -That they were all --

-I had too many animal organs in my body.

-Yeah, and no one wanted to see 10 animals die.

-Yeah. Again, not real.

[ Laughter ]

But, yeah, it bummed people out.

But it was still fun to do, and now Lautner and I --

And we talk about it all the time.

-Oh, definitely. -Yeah, 'cause we hang out a lot.

-That dress audience talks about it all the time, too.

Colin Jost Talks About a Sketch Michael Che Begged Him Not to Do - Duration: 3:53.

-Welcome back. We're here with Colin Jost and Michael Che.

Jost, you guys both made some sketch appearances,

which doesn't happen that often on the show.

You were in a Kool-Aid commercial, which --

There you go. -Yes.

Michael Che cast me in his Kool-Aid commercial.

-Yeah. -We're basically only

put in sketches -- at least me --

when they say, "We have no cast available."

-Right. -The shoot's at 5:00 a.m.

Only Jost will come.

-You're cheaper than hiring an extra?

-Yes. I'm just like an extra.

-Che, you have done some cast work on the show, as well.

There you are. You're the Scarecrow right here.

-Yeah. [ Laughter ]

-In a version of "The Wiz" with, of course, Ryan Gosling.

Who else would be in "The Wiz"?

But it was -- the best burn on Che is that he's a Scarecrow.

You cannot tell it's him, and he spent like six hours

in makeup all the time to get into it.

-The best is everyone calls me "Black Scarecrow,"

and I'm like, "It's just Scarecrow."

[ Laughter ]

-You were in a Scientology ad, Jost?

-I was -- Scientol -- yes. -You're very believable.

-I know. That's really one of my finest.

-You played Lester Holt on the show.

-Yes. -Which was wonderful,

but then there was an article.

The title of the article is "Watching History:

Find out all the familiar TV faces

covering the final lap of the 2016 election."

And so this was an actual newspaper article,

or online newspaper article.

Anderson Cooper, Megyn Kelly, and then you.

[ Laughter and applause ]

-Yeah. -Your Lester Holt was so good...

-Yeah, shout-out to the makeup department.

[ Laughter ]

-But this is very -- you did -- This was a bit you did

on "Update" where you played Gretchen.

-You went undercover as a white girl named Gretchen.

-Yes. [ Laughter ]

I went undercover as a liberal white woman named Gretchen,

and I didn't use makeup, but it was still believable.

-Yeah. [ Laughter ]

-And then you guys had an idea, like a second round of this.

-Yeah. -Now, so the idea --

Explain how it was supposed to work.

-The last show, we had an idea that got cut --

that was -- I said to Che, "Well, you went undercover

as a white woman named Gretchen

to try to figure out that situation."

And I had been reading all this terrible stuff about R. Kelly,

so I thought maybe I could go undercover

as a black teenage girl to try to entrap R. Kelly.

[ Laughter, audience groans ]

[ Laughter ] -Yes.

Yes, exactly, boos. Thank you.

-That's, uh -- You know what?

That sounds like a man of Manny Manimals.

[ Laughter ]

-Well, the idea was, I knew it was the worst idea ever.

-Right. So you did not shoot it.

-No, the idea was Che would stop me

and point out how awful of an idea that was,

and I would say, "Really? It doesn't go both ways?"

And he was like, "Absolutely not."

And I was like, "Oh, yeah, that makes sense."

-Gotcha. -And then it said, "The more you know."

Like the little -- [ Laughter ]

♪ "The more you --" ♪ Yeah, you could tell.

We're glad it was cut. I think that seems fair.

The audience approves. -I begged him not to do it.

[ Laughter ]

-How often -- one of my favorite things you guys do,

that you did for the Christmas show, right?

Where you make each other read jokes

that the other one has not seen first.

-Right. -You seem to have a lot of fun

putting each other in uncomfortable situations.

-Oh, yeah. -He made --

The slug came up for one he made me tell,

which was National Rosa Parks Day came up,

when the joke he made me tell without having read it,

and my family said they were all -- like, lost their breath.

[ Laughter ] And they were like,

"We're watching our son's end right now."

[ Laughter ] -Do you remember the joke?

-No, I don't. -That's for the best.

James McAvoy this week. He should be fantastic.

-Oh, my God, yeah. He's great.

He already plays 12 different characters in "Split."

-Yeah. That's basically a whole episode.

-There you go. We're good.

We'll just do each of those. He's great.

He was on your show. -He's incredibly charming,

great actor, so I'm really looking forward to that.

It was very fun and nice of you to do.

And I'm like, "What,

is it something kind of fun and goofy?"

then I'm gonna read it.

"The thing that burns me up the most about Colin is

that deep down inside, I think he's a nice guy,

SIX FIGURES, NO SUITS : EPISODE 1 - DRILLED SHAFTS - Duration: 8:50.

hey

yeah

okay. alright, I'll get.

I got a hot tip on a fuel filter.

We're in Auburn, Alabama on a Drilled Shaft project.

The project is deep foundations for a condominium

that's going up here in Auburn.

We've got temporary shoring going in and then two phases of drilled shaft work.

We've got 22 shafts on the first phase and 150 on the latter phase.

My name is Dennis Smith. I'm a superintendent for Russo Corporation.

The three basic foundation technologies that we use are:

Anchored Earth, Drilled Shafts, and Micropiles.

In this case we're using drilled shafts

as our deep foundation for the condominiums going up.

The way a drilled shaft works is

it transfers the load from a structure above to a bearing strata below

kinda like a column in the dirt

The rated capacity for the piers is about 700,000 lbs

or about 54 elephants or 20 Greyhound buses.

So a drilled shaft or a caisson is a cylinder ranging from 18 inch to 13 foot diameter

where we use the auger bit to drill to a certain depth anywhere from 5, 10 to 120 to 200 feet deep.

All the dirt, rock material will come out of the hole and produce a round

cylinder to fill with a circular rebar cage and fill with concrete all the way

from the bottom to the top.

This is a Soilmec SR45 drill rig. They're made in Italy.

Rotary driven, drill rig powered by Kelly bar and the rotary.

Upwards of 100,000 ft-lbs of torque.

To correlate torque, your normal everyday

pickup truck, your engine produces around 300 to 400 ft-lbs of torque

And this machine produces upwards of 100,000 to 120,000 ft-lbs of torque

in the rotary to turn the Kelly bar and drill the shaft as deep as you need it

this is a 48 inch rock auger with carbide teeth.

When we start pouring the shaft

once we drill it down

we got to get the right depth, the right elevation

We got to get with the engineers to give me the right concrete elevation,

the right steel elevation.

So what I started doing, I start pouring without putting the steel in

if its a floating cage.

So when I get so much in there, I stop.

Then I reach back grab and steel, put it in the hole and let him shoot it

to give me the right elevation

I let the crane hold this steel

I start back pouring concrete. I get enough concrete enough to stabilize the steel

I cut the steel loose, then I come on up to the right elevation

and that's the hole.

The first recorded drilled shafts in

North America were put in under the Brooklyn Bridge

and back then they had to dig

them by hand and it would could take up to several months to put one shaft in.

Now with the technology we've got we're able to do multiple shafts per shift or

even as as fast as one every five or ten minutes

I got into this business as a part-time job out of college

and thirteen years later I'm still here.

I'm from Monroeville Alabama. I went to Monroe Academy in high school

Ended up here in Auburn went to college here at Auburn graduated in 2005

Came from a family of John Deere salesmen ended up with Russo as a part-time,

looking for a full time job and 13 years later I'm still here at Russo.

Typically you'll find all kinds of different objects when you're drilling.

old metal pilings or all kind of different things

You just never know what you're gonna find down in the hole.

Yeah, my passion for this industry started when I was working with my uncle

on a summer job. Fell in love with it and been here ever since

41 years I started back in '77 and I'm still here in 2018.

When I started with the company I did not have any formal education in doing this

I had on the job training, learned by hands-on

If I were looking for someone to be hired on or to

make this a career for them in this industry,

I would tell them this would be a good thing to do.

Good pay.

Good hours.

Good people to work for.

It'd just be a good thing all the way around

I'm headed out right now to go to the tractor supply to pick up a few things

to keep the job going but I don't have to worry about everybody's standing

around wondering what to do we've got a good enough team on site to keep work

going even if I'm on site or gone.

well I got two cousins, my uncle some

who I came up under. then I got a good friend of mine and I got a bunch of friends

that we came up with a bunch of guys that are bought in and we learned,

I trained them and they're good guys. Good fellas. Good-hearted people

The team on-site is really like a fraternity of brothers we're all together

with each other really more than we are with our families we depend on each

other for our livelihoods as well as our safety we work in the typically

dangerous industry and without the Brotherhood of having each other's backs

you're more likely to be injured or have an accident

This here, this is my cousin Chris Mote.

He's a man of all trades. He'll do it all. And he'll do what you asked him to

do just got a mouth sometimes, but he okay with me, I love him

This is Lewis Wright.

I met him a long time ago and here's a friend of mine

He works real hard. A real hard-worker, Lewis Wright.

This is LaShawn Mote. This is Chris's brother. This is my cousin.

He's a good guy.

He knows pretty much what to do. He's a labor foreman. He knows how to handle his business.

Now, this is my boss, right here, Clark Gary.

Good man. This is the best the best supervisor I've ever had.

So in this line of work you never know what you're going to get into

Every day is different, no two days are the same. You never do the same thing twice.

If you're out on the job site, it never requires a suit unless you'd really like

to show out and look good and get dirty

I think if a suit was required I would

have to change professions I couldn't stand to wear a suit every day and be

confined with a tie

Last time I wore a suit was Wednesday night

We were running a revival and I did the revival. I did the revival on Wednesday night

Foundation Drilling isn't for everyone but for those who have the

self-motivation and determination to succeed, it's the chance of a lifetime.

WHO DECIDES IF YOU'RE A VICTIM? - Dreams Around The World - Duration: 5:38.

So some of you know my story, some of you don't - when I first moved over to Europe

in 2012, I moved to Hamburg and this was towards the end of my first year of

travel. I left Canada at the start of that year, I moved to Costa Rica and then

New York and my best friend who was living in New York at the time was

moving over to Germany and I was following this goal I had. I don't even

remember where it came from but this goal of living in five countries before

I turned 30 and I didn't know what country I wanted to live in, so I

followed him over to Germany. Now before that 2011 was an insanely rough year for

me. I was going through a lot of issues with that, with confrontation, with just

not very enjoyable things so fast forward here and I'm in Germany and I'm

talking with my friend and I was talking about life and how easy I've had it and

he looked at me really strange, like: What are you talking about? You've been

through some shit, man! And I thought back to a number of things that I'm not gonna

bring up not just the year before but throughout my life, a lot of things, and

it's like - yeah but I haven't been and I kind of argued, but then I thought

objectively, like pulled myself out of my own head, and looked at my life. It was

like yeah you've been through some things you've had some hardship, some

traumas and what I realized in that moment is for me I just never gave

myself the opportunity to look at myself as a victim.

I've always been focused on the future, I've always either been looking at like

what I want or what I want to do or what's gonna happen and I've never

really taken a lot of time to look back and make up excuses and I don't

necessarily know why that is but I just don't really think that would ever serve

me, would it? Like we can look at our parents and some of us have had good

parents, some of us have had bad parents, I personally think I've had pretty

awesome parents and actually I should point out now if you don't listen to the

podcast yet - I have a podcast - and I will be doing a lot of episodes with my mom

who is traveling South America on her own for six months and so we're doing

some really cool shows together, so if you are older or thinking about

traveling solo or anything like that - subscribe to the podcast because it's

gonna be cool. So back to my parents - I think they're great but I'm sure if I

went to a psychologist I could find some issues in their marriage or their

parenting or something that would be a reason for me to have a bad relationship

or to feel bad or to have some kind of issue I'm positive of that

but what real purpose would that serve? Now I'm not necessarily talking here

about extreme trauma or extremely serious issues we may have developed in

childhood. There's definitely time for therapy and for psychologists and I'm a

firm believer in seeking that kind of medical help but I'm just talking about

our overall attitudes. I think we all know some people who tend to explain to

you why they aren't where they want to be, there tends to be this reason or that

reason, sometimes they blame themselves but even with blaming themselves they're

focusing on the excuses. They're not telling you where they want to be,

they're not telling you about what excites them, they're just saying - yeah

and then this happened and I had this problem then bla bla bla and I get it -

things have happened to all of us and I personally if I were to talk to you, I

would care and I would let you tell me about these bad things that have

happened to you, but that's not going to serve you really, is it? Is it going to

serve you to relive that or are you gonna be better off thinking that life

is good, that good things happen to you and that you aren't a victim because

once you decide you're a victim and once you focus on the past and focus even worse

are the people who are victims in the future like bad things haven't even

happened to them but they've decided that because of who they are for

whatever reason bad things not only have happened but they will happen in the

future and sometimes actually when you break these people's lives down, they've

actually had pretty awesome lives but somehow they're still victims. Listen, I

get it, we've all had very different lives and maybe growing up in Canada I

am more privileged than other people and I bet there's other people more

privileged than me, that's not what I'm here to do, I'm

here to compare all of us, I'm saying for you as someone that I honestly care

about and want to have a better life. Just think about it - does it serve you to

ever consider yourself a victim? Does it serve you to make excuses and if you're

one of my subscribers I can almost guarantee that you don't think of

yourself as a victim because you're someone who's trying to improve and

trying to make a better life and so maybe if that's the case and for some

reason you've watched this long - share this video with someone you know may be

subtly, don't try to offend them too much but share this video with someone, you

know, who is a bit more of a victim and maybe you can help them turn from

looking at the past, looking at the bad to looking at what could be and change

their orientation on life and hopefully that means that even more and more good

things will start happening to them. Thank you for watching! If you are not

yet a subscriber I publish new videos every Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday so hit

that subscribe button and the bell and I'll catch you in another video soon.

Higuain to Chelsea: Can incoming Blues striker face Spurs in the Carabao Cup? - Duration: 3:50.

Chelsea are on the verge of signing Gonzalo Higuain this week on loan from Juventus for six months with an option to extend it for 18 months in the summer

The 31-year-old could well be one of the solutions to Chelsea's problems at the moment and Maurizio Sarri will be keen to make sure that the Argentine can get right into his system with the Blues

It shouldn't be too hard, with the pair having worked together. When Higuain played under Sarri at Napoli, the striker netted an amazing 36 goals in 35 Serie A games, and the Blues would be keen for that to happen once again

However, the Blues have a crucial Carabao Cup semi-final second leg clash with Spurs on Thursday night, going into the tie at Stamford Bridge with a 1-0 deficit

But if Higuain signs this week then can he play for the Blues in the game?   The EFL regulations read in Article 6

2.2 : "In the case of a Premier League Club, one who would be registered and eligible to participate in a Premier League match commencing at the same time and on the same date as the Competition match in accordance with the Premier League Rules, or would have been but for the operation of Premier League Rule U

1.1 (Squad List)."  That means that as long as Chelsea register the player by Wednesday at 12pm then he will be eligible to play in the game

However, football.london also understands that the fact the tie is in between two legs does not matter and he will still be able to feature

The reason the deal has not gone through yet is down to the complicated nature of three teams trying to get what they want

The Blues have to offload Alvaro Morata to Atletico Madrid, which is close to happening, while AC Milan want to sign Krzysztof Piatek from Genoa to deal with losing Higuain

As well, with the Argentine being a Juventus player, the agreement has to be done with them to be completed, but everything appears to be falling into place

Morata's time with Chelsea is about to come to an end, with Piatek's signing close to going through from Genoa to their Serie A rivals

Chelsea's transfer plans for January   With the January transfer window in full swing, football
