How PayPal Became the Internet's Payment System - Duration: 10:10.

For most of human history, currency took the form sea shells or coins made of silver and

gold.

If you tried replicating that system in today's world, however, you're not gonna have a

good time.

That's why, today we'll be looking at one of the companies that make the world such

a convenient place: PayPal.

This video is brought to you by Skillshare, a learning community home to over 15,000 classes.

The first 500 people to sign up with the link below will get a 2 month free trial.

The year is 1998, the beginning of the dot-com bubble.

The stock market hasn't gone crazy just yet, but investors are rushing to get in on

the action.

They have very good cause to do so: the rise of the Internet had opened up unprecedented

possibilities to connect people, and where opportunity shows up, money is quick to follow.

Entrepreneurs across the country flocked to Silicon Valley in the hopes of becoming instant

billionaires.

Among them was Max Levchin, a Ukrainian-born immigrant who had graduated with a degree

in computer science less than a year before that.

When he arrived in Silicon Valley he started looking for a startup to join, but he couldn't

find a company that could inspire him.

That's when he stumbled into Peter Thiel, a disgruntled lawyer turned venture capitalist,

who like Max was searching for good startups.

Over the course of several weeks they met together and discussed a curious idea:

a universal way of making payments to anyone, from global businesses to your friends and

family.

Such an idea seemed absurdly ambitious at the time, so the duo decided to tackle it

in small steps.

The first one was to figure out a proper medium for the service:

personal digital assistants, or PDAs, seemed like the perfect candidate.

You can think of PDAs as proto-smartphones; they had the same idea, but with vastly inferior

technology.

Of course, for their time PDAs were cutting edge, and so that's what Max and Peter settled

for.

Their service, which they called Fieldlink, allowed users to store encrypted information

onto their devices; essentially, it was one of the first digital

wallets in history.

Of course, because you had to own a PDA to use Fieldlink, its potential userbase was

very small.

And because payment services are only as valuable as the number of people who use them, Fieldlink

quickly crashed and burned.

Less than a year, Max and Peter were back to the drawing board.

They needed something more popular to be the medium for their service:

no single device would do the trick, but the Internet, now that was big enough for their

ambitions.

They reincorporated as Confinity, backed by a $3 million investment from Nokia, and they

called their service PayPal.

Unlike Fieldlink, the PayPal system was both simplistic and brilliant:

instead of needing PDAs, users could send money with nothing more than their email and

credit card.

The best part was that users could transfer money to anyone, even if they didn't have

an account; as long you knew their email they would get their money.

Then Peter and Max got an even better idea: they would pay people to sign up and refer

their friends.

Want to open an account?

Here's $10.

Want another $10?

Get your friends to open their own accounts.

You can probably guess what happened: people started signing up, a lot of them.

Just three months after its release, PayPal had 12,000 active users.

What really kickstarted PayPal's popularity, however, was its integration with eBay.

Back then eBay was emerging as the premiere online marketplace, but there was a notable

handicap to its usability: the only way you could pay for things was

through checks and money orders.

That was very inconvenient, and so when PayPal got released, eBay auctions became one of

its primary uses.

Ebay had tried to introduce their own online payment system, but PayPal was fifty times

more popular.

Of course, it's worth noting that PayPal was far from being the only such company out

there.

At the height of the dot-com bubble there were dozens of electronic payment startups,

one of which was X.com.

It was founded by none other than Elon Musk and it was one of his earliest ventures.

Surprisingly, the X.com office was located just four blocks away from PayPal headquarters.

This made things personal, and pretty soon the two companies were engaged in bitter one-upmanship.

Engineers on both sides would log 100-hour work weeks;

things got so competitive that one engineer at PayPal allegedly designed a bomb as his

final solution.

Then, in March of 2000, the fierce war ended abruptly, when Elon Musk and Peter Thiel shook

hands and merged the two companies.

The decision was questioned by employees on both sides, but it ultimately proved crucial,

for that month was the beginning of the dot-com crash that would eventually destroy most of

their competitors.

Thanks to the merger, the two competing teams could focus on maintaining the service and

they managed to weather the storm.

In fact, they were so successful that by August of that year the reborn PayPal had over two

and a half million users.

This early PayPal team would go on to found various billion dollar enterprises, and today

they are known as the PayPal mafia.

In June the team added business accounts, which are now at the core of PayPal's revenue

stream, and by the end of 2001 PayPal's userbase had ballooned to almost 13 million

accounts.

While the dot-com world crashed and burned around them, PayPal were getting ready for

their next big move: just two weeks after 9/11, while the American

economy was still in shock, PayPal announced that they'd be going public with an initial

public offering on February 2002.

Despite the horrible macroeconomic situation, PayPal's IPO was a shining success, with

the company's shares soaring 50% above their target price.

The IPO was a signal to everyone that PayPal had won: it was now, essentially, the payment

system of the Internet.

The folks over at eBay knew that, so they shut down their Billpoint system and purchased

PayPal for one and a half billion dollars.

The acquisition made a lot of sense: PayPal was an integral part of eBay's marketplace

and eBay's well-funded legal team could finally settle PayPal's numerous class-action

lawsuits.

Sadly, the acquisition would end up changing PayPal to its core;

all the PayPal mafia members left, and with them the company's libertarian philosophy

also disappeared.

Of course, that didn't stop PayPal from expanding: by 2006 it had spread to 55 countries

and by 2011 it had over 100 million users.

All of this growth, however, has not come without a price.

PayPal had struggled with fraud and privacy issues since its very beginning, but its dramatic

expansion greatly magnified these problems.

Most of the horror stories you hear online of honest users getting their accounts frozen

and their money drained are true, and occur with frightening regularity.

Because PayPal isn't regulated as a bank, their modus operandi is to seize accounts

at even the faintest hint of fraud, and their Terms of Service allow for little recourse

on the side of the consumer.

Of course, despite these issues PayPal's popularity kept on growing relentlessly.

By 2014 it had grown too big for eBay to handle, and so PayPal was spun off.

Today, it is once again a publicly traded company and its userbase is bigger than ever.

In March 2017, PayPal passed the 200 million user milestone, and it is showing no signs

of slowing down.

Over the past ten years it has acquired half a dozen companies related to online payments

and fraud protection, and it's on the lookout for more.

Despite all of its issues, PayPal remains the world's largest online payment service

and it's now part of the Fortune 500 index.

The sheer convenience of the service, especially with the recent One Touch feature, is clearly

enough to win over more customers than they lose through their shady policies.

PayPal might not be regulated like bank, but at this point it sure is starting to look

like one; it might already be too big to fail.

Hearthstone Global Games Review - Ep. 3 - Duration: 11:28.

I like Deathstalker Rexxar!

Don't you think it looks strong?

You think?

I like Spirit Lash!

Hmm, I do really like the Lifesteal mechanic!

But Death Knight Hero cards, oh wow!

Mrgl mrgl mrgl

Mrgl mrgl mrgl mrgl mrgl

What?

No clue! I guess it's time to move on with the show...

Hey everyone and welcome back to the Hearthstone Global Games review.

I'm Soe and I'm once more joined by Falcone

and of course we're also gonna have a special guest here

in the studio who will help us review

the conclusion of the round of 16.

After the two more weeks of intense Hearthstone action

we now have 4 teams out of 48

wich will be stamping their tickets

to the finals at gamescom 2017.

Those teams being the Czech Republic

Ukraine, USA and South Corea

those 4 will battle it out at 25th and 26th of August.

Where the Hearthstone Global Games Champion

will be crowned, but before we go any further, first

let's review what happened in the round of 16

and to help us do this we have a very special guest

all the way from the Netherlands.

The winner of DreamHack Winter 2016

SeatStory Cup VII

It's Mitsuhide

Mitsuhide, how does it feel to be here.

I'm super happy to be here.

It's really great to get some insight

behind the scenes as a player

and excited to take part in this HGG review.

Now, before we go any further

let's address the murloc in the room.

Unfortunately, you guys have been eliminated

from the Hearthstone Global Games, you lost to Ukraine

and what a series it was, but

i need to ask you about the game against the Hunter, where

you left a Scavenging Hyena on the board, when

there was the ability to kill her.

Can you take me through why you did that?

Yeah, so basically we thought we could still

jade lightning the hyena to turn off her

and we thought the game was going really head to head

so we had to make some kind of tempo play

and I think lightning that turn was not

good enough of a tempo play

so we decided to take the best tempo play possible

by playing means odds

and then, we hoped we could deal with the hyena the turn after, but

unfortunately it didn't happen.

The hyena just got too big and we couldn't deal with it anymore

and that probably lost us the game.

But still, if we look at your lineup

those are big names, right there, in team Netherlands.

I'm wondering...

Did that maybe at the beginning caused some trouble

was there a little clash of egos or was it all chill.

No it was all chill, like, we were all kind of small egos

even though people like Thijs are super famous

they still really work well together and they don't think their

own plays are necessary the best plays all the time.

So I think it was really a strain of our team that we could just

discuss together, come to a consensus

almost every turn

and, yeah, we just worked together really well.

That sounds great! Now, Netherlands vs Ukraine

you already mentioned that match-up and, honestly

those are so talented players in both of those teams

that very well could have been like an HGG Grand Final right there.

Falcone, what were your opinions

on the performance in general of the Netherlands.

Certainly one of the strongest teams coming into the Hearthstone Global Games

I think everyone can agree on that, in terms of

the individual players, the tournament pedigree and just their popularity

I do wanna talk a little bit about the

game before your game versus Ukraine

Netherlands versus Brazil

You had relatevely normal straightforward games to begin the series

Brazil pulled ahead, but then the way you guys came back

first there was the game with Tyler on the quest warrior

with the Ragnaros hero powers going all over the place

and eventually taking it away.

But then there was the even harder match-up

You had a Control Paladin with no N'Zoth, versus Jade Druid

This should have been an almost impossible match-up for you guys

How did you pull it off?

Yes, so, going into this game we knew we were really unfavored

because we didn't play N'Zoth, we didn't play Cairne.

We actually played a really anti aggro list, with double Forbidden Healing

so we knew we had to curve really well

to put on enough early pressure to actually

push during the late game.

It actually happened. We had Pyromancer on turn 2

and Tempo Aldor Peacekeeper on turn 3

and we had a pretty good curve up until, i think around turn 6 or 7

and then it kind of went head to head

and the Jade Druid usually should pull ahead and that had to had come back

But, yeah in the end we knew we had to get

Tarim from Stonehill Defender

and we actually got it, so

yeah, that was really huge.

And then we barely managed to get enough damage in to close up the game.

All the teams we've seen in all the phases of the HGG

have been impressing us a lot and for everyone who didn't manage

to catch all the games, we cherry picked some highlights for you. Enjoy.

The first finalists, Czech Republic, continued their Global Games dominance

by knocking out China in the round of 8.

Next up, Ukraine.

Represented by a team with two players already going to the World Championship

took down the Netherlands all-star lineup and seem to have emerged

as a clear favorite among the final 4 teams.

South Korea with their win will be the sole rapresentatives of Asia

and carried the tradition of korean e-sports through to the finals.

And finally, the powerhouse USA had some struggles

but ultimately defeated New Zealand in a nail biter to move on.

We started with 48 countries and now we are down to just 4.

Which nation will bring home the Hearthstone Global Games title.

We'll see you at gamescom, for the finals.

Now, Mitsuhide, which teams impressed you the most in the HGG.

I would say that the 4 teams that are actually qualified to the finals impressed me the most

and not only because two of them were the only team that defeated us

during the group stage and the top 16 match

but also because, I think

for example Czech Republic has great

guts when it comes to deck choice.

and I think their individual skills are extremely high.

There have been a lot of storylines in the HGG

and a lot in the round of 16.

First, let's talk about some of the underdogs

with Greece doing such a good job at the start

getting really far in the tournament, but sadly

not getting any further than round of 16

Miracle Rogue causing them to be eliminated.

And we also saw Mexico falling to South Korea in the round of 8 with a 3 to 0.

After struggling in the round of 16, South Korea came back

they picked up their game wins with the Evolve Shaman

They evolved him into a Stormwind Champion

forcing their opponent to not have any options

They had Sunkeeper Tarim in hand, which was unplayable

two Tyrions, which they still would have lost through

so South Korea taking it quite comfortably.

After all there are only 4 spots for those finals. Now, Falcone...

What was the biggest upset in your opinion.

Well, there were quite a few, really, Netherlands of course being one of them

but the two that I'd like to highlight were actually Canada

losing out to New Zealand

and the other team I want to highlight is China.

They struggled in phase 1

but in phase 2 they really started beating everyone

Unfortunately they didn't make it through

Czech Republic put a stop to them and Czech Republic did deserve their place

thanks to their incredible deck building prowess.

But they were ahead 2 to 1

then Mexico it just, you know, just Mexico things, they took it back.

Wanna talk about it?

Mexico... very strong team and another team that did really impress me, to be fair

Italy, as many of you know, was my caster pick to win the whole thing

Shout out to Raven, as he is now the only caster whose pick is still in

as he chose South Korea

And I did, I built up a little bit of a relationship with team Italy

It was nice supporting them and watching them, as they went through

but Mexico did deserve their win

and I'm very very happy with the top 4.

Now, of course, the question is:

Who of the 4 finalists do you think is gonna make it?

That's a really hard question.

I think all 4 of the teams definitely have the skill it takes to win.

They are all incredibly strong individual players.

But if I would have to make a guess I would say Ukraine

and not only because they beat us, but because

this team has the most experience in an offline environment

so for the finals I think it's really going to matter

how much composure they actually have on stage.

So personally, what was your biggest take away from the HGG?

Well, obviously we learned to really play together

but also, I think something people kind of underestimated is

that we learned how to adapt to a changing format.

Every week in every stage the meta was kind of different

and we just used different strategies all the time.

I think in the end we had our strategy almost completely figured out.

Mitsuhide thank you so much for joining us here in the studio.

It was great to have you here and get that inside and also, of course

thanks for all the great games you and your team showed us during HGG

as well for all the other teams.

Falcone, it was awesome to having you here for all the reviews

and also it was awesome to watch your cast, you really brought the hype.

A pleasure to be here. As always, I cannot wait for the finals.

Well, neither can I and I'm pretty sure everyone watching is also super eager

to see all the action from the four final teams.

Thanks a lot for joining us for our review show.

We hope to see you again for the finals.

It's actually pretty big now

That said, we see that Taiwan has still a lot of health

and a brawl just totally blows his board out.

Yeah.

That would make sense.

There is the Bloodlust coming out.

Just gonna go ahead and get that damage in now.

I think they realize that with 5 cards left...

Wow...

Yeah, the free...

Thing from Below allows the Sea Giant to come down as well.

Oh, yeah, they roll the board. Such is game.

Wow! Wow! That is nuts!

Now they are gonna find the bad news that it was Redemption... oh no.

Jeez.

But it's still not enough.

3, 6, 9. Not going to be...

- Not by a long shot! - Is the best card they are working out

He sends out the well played...

- Oh my God! - And the Storm Guardian again!

If he goes face then he is about to win the game.

And if the looks on them is taking away...

It hits!

- It hits! - He actually got it!

Entertainer Kim Jeongmin has sued

her ex-lover, who is a coffee shop owner,

for additional defamation.

The controversy started on July 11, when

the coffee shop owner, known as A, was charged

with blackmailing Kim Jeongmin, his former lover.

They met through an acquaintance in 2013 and

dated from July of that year until December 2014,

with their sights on marriage.

"A" mentioned in an interview that

Kim Jeongmin approached him for his money,

saying that things were unfair.

After the court battle became a hot topic,

Kim Jeongmin had stated her side on social media.

On Thursday, July 26, Kim Jeongmin sued

"A" for defamation and false rumors.

Their intense court battle

has a few main points.

First is nonmatching stories of how they broke up.

Kim Jeongmin was unable to stay with "A" due to

his numerous lies and problems with women,

despite the fact that they were dating to marry.

But "A" stated differently.

He said she disappeared after he mentioned marriage.

He said she told him to talk to her agency's CEO.

The issue is who is responsible for the breakup.

After Kim Jeongmin demanded to break up, she paid

$142,000 to "A" after he allegedly threatened her.

She did pay him the money,

but "A" said he returned it.

Kim Jeongmin said this was a lie.

The prosecution announced they would investigate.

The third issue is the dating cost,

which was $890,000.

"A" stated that during the 18 months he dated

Kim Jeongmin, he spent over $890,000 on her.

After buying her watches and bags,

he invested $890,000 to marry her,

and in February, he sued her for $623,000

in damages.

But Kim Jeongmin's spokesperson says differently.

He said the $890,000 figure is baseless.

We asked a legal expert on what the main

issue of the damages lawsuit was.

(Shin Eungyu / Lawyer) In order for the damages

suit to be accepted,

her ex-boyfriend "A" would have to have

lent, rented, or gifted her his items

Kim Jeongmin must prove those transactions

did not occur, but if there is no exact proof,

the possibility that the lawsuit of "A"

will be dismissed is higher.

The first trial for blackmail and attempted

blackmail will be held on August 16.

Everybody is waiting to hear the results.

Um Taewoong made a comeback in

director Kim Kideok's recent movie.

In November 2016, he was summarily

arrested for soliciting a prostitute

and received a fine.

He said he'd reflect and paused his activities.

And now he's in a movie all of a sudden.

And the movie was filmed in February.

He began filming within just three months.

How is that self-reflection?

I'm asking how he reflected and what he reflected on.

Movie actors are different than entertainers.

Often, movie stars don't know what they'll be doing.

Sometimes, they film it and then it comes out

One or two years later.

So you're saying Won Bin

is on a 2-year-long reflection period?

He hasn't been in anything in a while.

(His promotion cycles are just long)

The industry is very random.

People like you one moment and hate you the next,

and things are very divided.

Shin Jeonghwan recently said he was returning

and he'll be back in September.

People are talking a lot about that show.

When someone is working hard in their field

and is really good at acting,

or singing, for example,

the public is more likely to forgive them.

Lee Byunghun is one example of that.

That issue disappeared in an instant.

Through his acting in "Inside Men."

Many people were able to distinguish

his personal wrongs from his work.

But it's much different than when people who do

melodramas are caught doing something wrong.

From the point of view of a commenter...

Are you here to share the perspective of them?

I mean from the perspective of an entertainer...

Sorry.

From an entertainer's point of view...

I'll do it over.

We'll write it here for you next week.

- Two jobs. / - I'll be an entertainer and commenter.

Commenters remember everything.

They're just not mentioning it at the moment.

Because the work was so good, and

they lead conversation

about it, they bury it temporarily but don't forget it.

From that point of view,

Kim Gura has a big problem.

His comments about comfort women became an issue,

and his method of self-reflection to solve the issue

is a good example.

He's still reflecting.

Your talk of sincerity reminded me of someone.

Jung Junho kept doing the Food Cart of Love.

That was just empty actions.

You're clapping for him.

I didn't see any sincerity in that.

He would doze off like this while working,

and if someone said hi

he'd suddenly smile and shake their hand.

He had no sincerity.

We'll get a message again today...

One media outlet did a study and made an index

for idols who reflected, then had comebacks.

Military service evasion was 37.3 months.

Sex scandals were 29.8 months,

Gambling was 16.1 months.

Strangely, DUIs were the shortest,

at 4.7 months.

The mindset of the public in Korea

is... How do I put this...

They're not very aware of these things.

Our society is tolerant towards alcohol.

- Very tolerant. / - Extremely.

Let's talk about how to apologize.

Sometimes when they apologize on social media,

they get even more hatred. What should they do?

The biggest mistake they make

is thinking that everyone will

feel the same way as they do.

I know what that feels like.

Even after news of me getting married came out,

My manager was flustered, so he denied it.

He said it was untrue at first.

But I think that being clear, honest and open

and saying, "This is what happened"

is the wisest method.

That's very hard, though.

Because Lee Jihye has been through many hardships.

Hardships? Are you kidding me?

How could you say that to me?

She mentioned her self-reflection.

She's now has complete moral character.

Some never had the public ostracize them and

people liked them before they even thought about

what or who they were.

But then people start turning their backs on you,

and that is a big trauma for them.

So you don't know what to do at the moment

and deny everything.

And you rely on your agency to hide.

What kind of apology does the public want?

Is there a way to apologize?

The most logical form of apology is called "C.A.T."

Contents, Attitude, and Timing.

T.O.P recently released an apology.

What did he say?

I feel like he may have been late in the timing

part of C.A.T.

He was supposed to have a press conference

before returning to the army,

but he moved up his enlistment date and

the press leaked more as he was changing hospitals.

He didn't formally apologize.

I think C.A.T. isn't an appropriate apology.

Despite that, I want to point something out.

What?

The public is really wondering

whether he's actually reflecting.

Despite that they don't desire his comeback,

some people just go right onto TV shows.

That's because some people succeeded...

Recently, there were successful cases...

Of noise marketing, right?

So rather than people being uninterested,

they often try to join the conversation.

That is often their intention.

- It has the makings of a hot topic. / - Yes, it does.

And in the industry sometimes,

some companies have production teams in-house.

They produce content within the company,

and if the celebrity is also employed by the company,

they can put them on the show for cheaper.

They do it for synergy.

You're even talking about the industry.

The big players.

I'm curious about your future progress

after marriage.

Thanks to the four of you

for that honest conversation.

I hope you all jot down and keep in mind this talk.

Thank you.

- Thank you. / - Thank you.

(Self-reflection has no end. It's continuous)

(Until you're filled with sincerity)

(You'll get hated anyway... Handle it)

but then they made comebacks on the charts.

Now it's a summer song of all Koreans.

Congratulations!

Number 26

is "Travel to Me" by BUZZ.

Number 25 is

Sung Sikyung's "The Blue Night of Jeju Island."

This charming song had Sung Sikyung's sweet voice.

It's been called a traditional song of Jeju-do

and comes to mind when one thinks of the island.

Let's listen together.

Look at his hair back then.

(Adding to the already-beautiful views of Jeju-do)

I want to go to Jeju-do...

The original was by Choi Seongwon of Deulgukhwa.

He put in the emotions he felt while in Jeju-do.

It's always sung by younger singers, even today.

With its flowing ballad and deep lyrics,

it calms our hearts, exhausted from the heat.

It's that summer song.

Number 24 is "Paradise" by PSY.

Number 23 is "Sea Bird" by "Sea Bird."

After 1980,

there have been lots of summer songs,

but this is the most famous.

(Source: MBC) Rising to fame after the 1986

Gangbyeon music festival, the trio of Sea Bird

released a song called "Sea Bird."

(Hearing it brings refreshing memories of the past)

With refreshing vocals and harmony,

this song makes you breathe easy and relax.

It's known as the cheer song of

the Lotte Giants, a pro baseball team.

Even hearing it now after 30 years,

it's the same old refreshing song "Sea Bird."

Number 22 is Park Jaeran's "The Pearl Fishers."

Number 21 is Kim Chooja's "Lady in the Rain."

Number 20 is UN's "Wave."

This song is great.

Number 19 is UP's "Beach."

UP made us so many memories in the 90s.

"Beach" is a song for the summer.

It received huge support from teens with its

cute lyrics and dance at the time.

Kim Saengmin, I guess you missed UP a lot.

Anyone could easily follow the melody and rhythm.

It was impressive.

Their clothes were impressive too.

This song was great.

In 2016, Huh Gak and Jeong Eunji

remade it, making headlines.

It's a perfect song for when you depart on a trip.

Number 18 is Indigo's "Summer, Please."

The song everyone knows. The summer

anthem you think of when summer comes.

In the summer of 2000, they were prominently

dominating the music world.

It was the number one song for going on

drives during the hot summer. (Souce: SBS)

It's still heard playing in cars every summer.

The summer carol that comes back to us every time.

"Summer, Please"!

Number 17 is CLON's "City Escape."

CLON left the city

and went to the beach.

"City Escape" was their hit after

"Kung Ddari Shabara."

It gave them the title "summer men."

It was the song that let us enter the Taiwan market

after a Taiwanese singer called on us.

They were chosen as the sexiest men in Taiwan

by DJ Koo.

CLON expanded from Korea to Taiwan.

Let's run to the beach with CLON!

Number 16 is Busker Busker's "Yeosu Night Sea."

(Source: MBC) Kim Saengmin is very excited today.

Cherry blossoms are good sons. Yeosu's a

good daughter.

At 20, Jang Beomjune went to Yeosu

and wrote "Yeosu Night Sea" while reminiscing about

the girl he liked.

(Known for having over 2,500,000 downloads)

(I am the Yeosu night sea, the Yeosu night sea)

This song increased tourism to Yeosu.

So, Yeosu calls it a song that has done its duty.

(A summer anthem that stimulates the emotions)

(Go to the romantic Yeosu coast this summer)

It's a summer anthem that stimulates the emotions

as Yeosu stretches out before you.

Summer songs Koreans love!

We'll be back with more refreshing songs next week!

Kim Saengmin, good job.

I thought "Midnight Dinner Talk" was fun.

You did?

Come join us next time.

I'll go then.

This is all the news we have prepared for today.

We'll be back next week.

Everyone, be happy!

("Catch You" by P.O.P)

Insulator -Types of Insulators - Duration: 3:56.

An electrical insulator is a material whose internal electric charges do not flow freely;

very little electric current will flow through it under the influence of an electric field.

This contrasts with other materials, semiconductors and conductors, which conduct electric current

more easily.

The property that distinguishes an insulator is its resistivity; insulators have higher

resistivity than semiconductors or conductors.

In this video we will go to show you different types of electrical insulator.

If you like our video, so please our channel learning engineering.

There are mainly six types of insulator used as electrical transmission and distribution

line.

1.

Pin type insulator.

2.

Post insulator.

3.

Suspension insulator.

4.

Strain insulator.

5.

Shackle insulator.

6.

Bushing insulator.

Pin type insulator.

As the name suggests, the pin type insulator is mounted on a pin on the cross-arm on the

pole.

There is a groove on the upper end of the insulator.

The conductor passes through this groove and is tied to the insulator with annealed wire

of the same material as the conductor.

Pin type insulators are used for transmission and distribution of communications, and electric

power at voltages up to 33 KV.

Insulators made for operating voltages between 33 KV and 69 KV tend to be very bulky and

have become uneconomical in recent years.

Post insulator.

A type of insulator in the 1930s that is more compact than traditional pin-type insulators

and which has rapidly replaced many pin-type insulators on lines up to 69 KV and in some

configurations, can be made for operation at up to 115 KV.

Suspension insulator.

For voltages greater than 33 KV, it is a usual practice to use suspension type insulators,

consisting of a number of glass or porcelain discs connected in series by metal links in

the form of a string.

The conductor is suspended at the bottom end of this string while the top end is secured

to the cross-arm of the tower.

The number of disc units used depends on the voltage.

Strain insulator.

A dead end or anchor pole or tower is used where a straight section of line ends, or

angles off in another direction.

These poles must withstand the lateral horizontal tension of the long straight section of wire.

In order to support this lateral load, strain insulators are used.

For low voltage lines (less than 11 kV), shackle insulators are used as strain insulators.

However, for high voltage transmission lines, strings of cap-and-pin (suspension) insulators

are used, attached to the cross arm in a horizontal direction.

When the tension load in lines is exceedingly high, such as at long river spans, two or

more strings are used in parallel.

Shackle insulator.

In early days, the shackle insulators were used as strain insulators.

But nowadays, they are frequently used for low voltage distribution lines.

Such insulators can be used either in a horizontal position or in a vertical position.

They can be directly fixed to the pole with a bolt or to the cross arm.

Bushing insulator.

Bushing insulator are enables one or several conductors to pass through a partition such

as a wall or a tank, and insulates the conductors from it.

Okay.

We all ready to get down to work?

Now, we have a woman's hand soap product.

A bottle.

And we need some ideas

on how to market it.

I've started us off up there on the board.

Who else has got some ideas?

Emily?

Uh, butterflies. -Butterflies?

Yes. -Butterflies.

Emily? -Yeah.

It's a woman's product.

It's just teetering.

It needed help to get up there,

and now it's up there.

And it says, "Help!

I'm a little lady soap!

Who am I?

Who's gonna buy me?"

So the question that we arrive at is this.

How...

will...

the...

women...

know....

it's...

for...

women?

How will the women know it's for women?

Pink.

Pink.

Of course it's pink, Emily!

Come on!

I'm sorry.

Okay, pink.

Beautiful.

There we go.

A special handle for tiny women's hands,

and a bow.

Tiny little handles for their

wee little women hands.

Dating tips.

Put out.

Baby fresh scent.

Nice scent wafting up there, great.

Excuse me. -Mmm hmm.

I'm sorry, I'm just wondering how

is this soap different from the men's soap?

Like, what's the actual difference?

Alexa, you want to field that one?

It's more expensive.

Laura: Exactly.

[Laughter]

Thank you.

[Knocking]

Ah, John!

Perfect timing.

Mmm hmm.

I wanted to get your thoughts

on our new, uh, women's hand soap mock-up.

John: [Sighs]

Pink.

Bows.

Butterflies.

It's all there.

I love it.

[Giggling]

You girls would buy this?

Mmm hmm.

Laura: Oh, yeah, yeah. Every day.

Every god damn day of our god damn lives.

Wham-o.

Nice work,

Laura.

Thanks, John.

I just have to know...

In this job we just come up with stuff

that we'd never use?

Laura: Yeah. Drink up.

It'll make the feelings go away.

Ah.

Laura: Okay, next product.

A Brighter Web, Episode 010 - Solid morning routines, expensive keywords and lots more - Duration: 9:05.

How do you like to start your day?

I used to be fairly haphazard, checking my email and kind of poking around, but now I

make sure to get started 40 minutes before the rest of the house gets moving, and I have

a specific routine I go through.

I have some great apps and tools I use to make it happen, and we'll talk about that

in a minute, but before we get into that, this is A Brighter Web episode number 10 brought

to you by all of us at GreenMellen, which includes me, Mickey Mellen, and some of my

awesome coworkers and friends that you'll hear in future episodes.

Our goal with this podcast is to share news, products, and ideas with you so we can all

make the web a brighter place to be.

These might be actual web tips, talking about strategy, WordPress plugins, and UX, or productivity

ideas to help you get more done and free up your time to do great things.

We also want to thank our sponsor ClickHOST.com.

ClickHOST provides top-rate web hosting at prices as low as five dollars a month.

Today we'll talk more about tools for a good morning routine, the most expensive keywords

in AdWords, the new Data Never Sleeps chart, and lots of little changes that Google's made

in the past week.

Let's dig in.

Today is the first day of school here in Georgia.

Yes, July 31st is the first day of school.

Our family tends to like it.

We get out earlier in the year and have many more breaks during the year, but that's not

the point of what I'm trying to say here.

Over the past few weeks I've worked hard to set up a new morning routine that I was going

to start today, and today's been the first day of it.

I've been kind of privately beta testing it with myself the past couple weeks and fine

tuning, and I feel like I have a pretty good setup, so I thought I'd share it here.

It's really about a 40 minute routine I go through each morning, and I use a couple apps

to help me out.

The first is an app called Tinygain, that helps me keep everything on track.

It's available for iOS and Android.

I actually found it because there was a great iOS only app called Morning Routine that's

not available on Android, and Tinygain seemed to be the best alternative, and actually I

like it a bit better.

The way I go through now is I do a quick check on my email just to make sure there's no fires

in there.

I keep my inbox at zero every night, so there's really not a whole lot there in the morning

other than some junk to clean out, but I can make sure there's no fires before I dig into

my actual routine.

From there, I have various questions through Tinygain.

I use a few other sets that people have made in Tinygain that you can share with one another,

a few that have some power questions to help you frame your day such as, "Think of three

things that would make today great," just to kind of get that in your mind.

Then, I catch up on Feedly and read through all the stories in there.

I have a read through the bible in a year book I'm working through.

Each day is a quick reading from the Old Testament, one from the New Testament, a Psalm, and Proverb,

so I spend a few minutes on that.

Then I work through Brainscape for about 10 minutes.

Because Brainscape's open-ended, I use a timer inside of Tinygain to limit me to 10 minutes

on that.

Then I work through my Cloze entries we talked about before.

That's Cloze, C-L-O-Z-E.

Then I look on Facebook and LinkedIn for any birthdays or other special wishes I want to

put out to people.

Then I spend a few minutes just going through my other social networks, just seeing what's

going on, leaving a few comments, interacting with a few folks, and then moving on with

my day.

Lots of details over at Mickmel.com, and I'll have a link to that post in the show notes.

We all know AdWords can get quite expensive, and Search Engine Journal just posted a list

of the 25 most expensive keywords in AdWords.

Thought it was interesting.

I have a link in the show notes, but the top five, just if you're curious what they are

without having to dig in, is Asset Management is number five, like annuities and those sorts

of key words, at an average of $49.86 per click.

Wow.

These are big numbers.

Lawyers are next at $54.86 a click, Casinos at $55.48 per click, Bail Bonds at $58.48

a click, and then the top one, you may have guessed, is just various Business Services,

that average out at $58.64 a click.

If you're gonna do AdWords in some of those, it's very competitive and you better have

your calls to action and stuff real tight in your homepage if you're gonna be spending

nearly $60 per click to get people there, but the full article in Search Engine Journal

is linked in our show notes, so you can check it out for yourself.

You've probably seen the chart before that says "What Happens in One Minute On the Internet."

It's called the Data Never Sleeps Report, and the new version of that just came out.

It's worth checking out.

A few interesting ones are that YouTube users watch 4.1 million videos per minute, which

is insane, and that 456,000 tweets are sent every minute.

I remember back in the early days of Twitter they had a front page where you could view

all the tweets as they went by, and I was amazed how fast it was because when you refreshed

there were already like six more.

Now there are 7600 tweets a second that go by, so it's a little harder to keep up, but

that full chart with lots of great insights we have a link to in our show notes.

Lots of other Google news to go through, so I'm just gonna kind of run through this fairly

quickly.

If any of these interest you, we'll have links in our show notes without wasting too much

of your time diving deep into each one because there's quite a few little things to hit.

To start, Google has added a questions and answers box to their local panel that some

users are seeing.

This is when you search for a business and it has the business info on the right.

They'll ask you some questions about that business that some of you may see in Google

Maps from time to time, like, "Do they serve alcohol here?", "Is it child-friendly?"

Those sorts of things, so that'll be kind of interesting as they slowly roll that out,

just to make their map data that much more accurate for people to use.

We've talked about before that on average 50% of the results on page one of a Google

search are https, and that works out to, according to a study from Search Engine Roundtable,

99% of all page one results from Google have at least one https result in there.

You really need to have your site secure these days, and again, it should be free if you're

on a decent host, so get your site secure because more and more of Google is showing

up as secure, and if you're not there, you're gonna start missing out.

Google's testing a new design for image search results.

If you use Google's image search, you know how that looks.

They're changing it a little bit.

Right now, when you click on an item it kind of pushes the rest of the results above and

below and kind of focuses on that one item in the middle.

Instead, it looks like it'll bring it up in an overlay, which is a little bit different.

Not necessarily better or worse, but if you use Google image search a lot be in for a

little surprise here in the coming weeks as they start to roll that out.

Another one that I find interesting is Google's starting to roll out carousel-based site links.

This is when you see a site, and it has additional links to that site in there.

Instead of listing them below, it's gonna put them side by side in a little carousel

you can swipe through.

Seems a bit user-un-intuitive, but on mobile people are used to that kind of swiping, so

perhaps it'll work out pretty well.

Another little change Google's made is if you see the "people also search for" box when

you're searching, you do a search and at the bottom it'll say, "Hey, people also search

for these things," Google's starting to add some logos to that box.

Only big brands for now, and Google's not announced how it's gonna roll out, but I would

suspect that if they add smaller companies later, which presumably they will, the logos

will be based on the data inside of their Google My Business account, so make sure if

you have a business with a brick and mortar presence, you have your Google My Business

squared away for that and many other reasons.

A little thing that some of you may not have noticed, but Google's Instant Search is dead.

This is where, when you'd start searching in Google, the results would come up immediately

as you were typing, and they've gotten rid of that.

It seems a lot of people didn't notice, because people didn't use it that often.

The big reason for that, though, is because Instant Search was only on desktop, and Google's

really pushing to unify the desktop and mobile experience, so taking that off of desktop

makes them match.

Another change Google's testing is auto-playing videos in the search results.

They're just testing this on a small scale right now, but the tests they're doing have

videos playing audio and video instantly in the search results, which seems very un-Google-like,

very user-un-friendly, and something we always suggest we never do is have auto-playing video

on a site.

I don't suspect they'll go very far with it, but Google's the kind of company that likes

to test everything, so they're certainly testing this out to see what the reaction is, and

what the click-through rates are, and those sorts of things, so it'll be interesting to

see if they ever share any data from that.

A little change some of you may notice.

If you do a dictionary search on Google, which typically when you're searching for one word

and Google assumes you want a dictionary definition of it, they've added a few things to that.

One is that the result of your dictionary search now has a search box you can dig deeper.

It also has a history of other recent words you searched for, so if you do a lot of those

kinds of searches, it's a couple little features that could make things better.

Lastly, Google's adding SOS alerts to search, and to Maps.

This means that if Google knows you're near an incident, and they typically know where

you are, and of course they know where incidents are, they'll automatically provide maps, stories

about the incident, local information from authorities, and those sorts of things on

Google itself, and also in Google Maps.

This is not too much unlike what Facebook's already doing.

It certainly is a good thing for everyone involved in that type of situation.

Lastly, for our tip of the week, as we often do, the tip goes back to the top story.

I've set up this morning routine and I'm really liking how it's helping me get focused, and

make sure I knock out some of the items that sometimes get left behind each day, digging

into Feedly, or running through Brainscape, or getting on social media just to wish happy

birthday to my friends.

I encourage you to look at your morning routine and see if you can't add a bit of structure

to it, either using the tools I've set, or just having a piece of paper, or somehow just

getting a focused morning routine, as I think it can make a big difference for you.

That's all we have for this week.

26 Hidden Secrets things about Marvel Would NOT Want Anyone To Know - Duration: 8:10.

26 Hidden Secrets things about Marvel Would NOT Want Anyone To Know.

26 Stan Lee Stan Lee who worked for Marvel as a writer

for hire sued Marvel in 2005 because he was hurt by Marvel Comics decision to keep profits

from him over his 60 years with the company

25 Michael Jackson In the early 1990s, Michael Jackson tried

to buy Marvel Comics just so that he could play Spider Man in his own produced movie

24 Dum Dum Dugan Was A Life Model Decoy Timothy Dum Dum Dugan was one of Nick

Furys most trusted allies and one of the stapes of SHIELD leadership.

He was a friend, a soldier, and a... life model decoy?

Life model decoys have an infamous history in the Marvel Universe.

Theyre basically robots that look and sound exactly like real people.

23 Timely Comics

Marvel was first known as Timely Comics.

It was set up in 1939 by New York magazine publisher Martin Goodman.

From 1951 the companys comics were printed under the name Atlas but this was changed

to Marvel in 1961.

The first comic to appear under the Marvel Comics brand was Amazing Adventures No 3.

22 Marvel had Cyclops Marvel had Cyclops and Jean Grey get married

in the comics because they found out that the producers of X-Men: The Animated Series

intended to have them wed in the shows second season.

21 Marvel Comics was prohibited from featuring

werewolves in comics by the Comics Code Authority from 1954 through 1971.

This pushed Marvel creators to be more imaginative, and resulted in the creation of Sauron, a

character thats basically a were-pterodactyl with vampiric powers, in

the pages of X-Men in 1969.

20 Spider-Man superheroes Spider-Man has been one of Marvels best-loved

superheroes.

The friendly neighborhood web-slinger has spawned multiple spin-offs and alternate versions,

as well as film franchises, animated series, and countless merchandise.

However, Peter Parker very nearly didnt make it into the pages of the Marvel universe.

19 zombie.

Marvel was creating every character they could think of in the 70s (including Dazzler,

a disco inspired character) they were also apparently

working on copyrighting words and trying to be the only ones who could use said words.

Marvel must have thought there was big money in this idea,

as from 1975-1996 Marvel actually owned the rights to the word zombie.

18 Michael Jackson was famous for a lot of different

things, but one of his lesser-known loves was comic books.

The star owned a huge collection of comics and memorabilia, and was a huge Marvel fan

(although he loved DC as well).

In the 90s, when Marvel wasnt anywhere near as financially healthy as it is now,

Jackson even seriously considered buying the comics company the ultimate

addition to a comic collection.

17 Stan Lee and Jack Kirby

When Stan Lee and Jack Kirby were creating villains for the Marvel Comic Books they turned

to the Bible.

Out of that inspiration came Galactus (God) and Silver Surfer (Satan).

16 superhero named Throg Marvel created a superhero named Throg.
