The Swan Club | 발레교습소 백조클럽 - Ep.5 : The Dream of an Ugly Duckling [ENG/2018.01.10] - Duration: 1:00:13.

(When I was young...)

When I was young, I always dreamed of dancing.

(Dancing ballet wearing a pretty frock and shoes)

Dancing ballet wearing a pretty frock and shoes...

(Narrated by Oh Yoonah)

It made me feel like a princess in a fairy tale.

(That's why I promised myself)

(I would grow up to be one.)

But years passed, and I grew up.

(But years passed, and I grew up.)

I now know that princesses only exist in fairy tales.

(I know that I can never be a princess now.)

Still, I dream every day while practicing ballet.

(And now I'm about to put on a show.)

Can my dream come true?

(Episode Five, "The Dream of an Ugly Duckling")

(Last week)

(Their roles in "The Nutcracker" were revealed.)

You need to take this seriously.

(They will audition.)

You might not be cast.

(Their hard work might all go down the drain.)

(Will the swans all be able to perform on stage?)

- Gosh. / - I'm feeling the pressure.

I don't know what to do. What should I do?

I don't think I can do this.

I disagree. I think you'll do great.

- I thought we'd just play the guests. / - Me too.

- I thought we'd be in the back. / - That's ridiculous.

I figured that's what they would only let us do

because we could ruin the whole performance.

What do we do?

(A peaceful early winter morning)

First, we'll start with the Arabian doll dance.

Director.

- It's too much. / - We feel burdened.

When I first heard that we were putting on a show,

I didn't expect us to play these characters on stage.

To be honest, I still haven't got over the shock.

There's not much time, so we need to practice,

but our bodies don't move like we want them too.

That's why Sungeun and I have been feeling defeated.

Ballet isn't something you can master in a few days.

I understand how you all feel,

but none of you have led easy lives.

Gosh.

You've all faced crises in life.

Yeonjae has experienced them multiple times

on an international stage.

Jiwon has experienced a setback,

and so have the rest of you.

It's true that I gave you more than you can chew.

I honestly don't expect you to master it perfectly.

You may not be able too.

However, instead of saying you can't do it,

why don't you at least try first?

Let's just try.

Let's try this.

(They all swallowed back tears to get this far.)

Judging by your potential and

what you've accomplished so far,

I believe that you can do this.

(I believe that you can do this.)

(You all have the ability and potential to do this.)

To help us with the Arabian doll dance,

ballerino Lee Seunghyun is here.

- He danced the pas de deux with Jiwon. / - Right.

(Lee Seunghyun, Jiwon's pas de deux partner)

(Welcome!)

Today, you'll be partnering with all of them.

- Oh no. / - All of us?

He'll have to partner up with us all.

He's been the male lead for numerous productions.

He was my mentor since middle school.

Really?

Since middle school?

(No way!)

He was her mentor.

He was her mentor since middle school.

- That's right. / - Yes, I heard that too

from Seunghyun.

Is this for real?

Go ahead and give him a proper greeting.

(The teacher and student reunite.)

- He's now shy. / - She's now a big star.

- She's too big of a star. / - I heard that.

Did he teach you ballet?

Ever since I was young, he taught me ballet.

I see.

I'll look forward to your partner dancing today.

(The teacher and student's duet)

(Shortly...)

(They will put on a touching performance.)

(Heave-ho!)

Let's keep it here for now.

(Hold on...)

I think it's best if you lost some weight.

(An embarrassing performance will be on shortly.)

Let's go ahead and learn the Arabian doll dance.

(The Arabian doll dance from "The Nutcracker")

(My gosh!)

She's so pretty.

(Everyone was mesmerized by the character.)

(Captivating lines and femininity)

Which role would you like to play?

This one.

(The swans were already all in love with it.)

- I'd love to play Arabian doll as well. / - I see.

(Director Kim chose Jiwon for the part.)

(Also,)

(Yoonah and Sungeun)

(We'll see if they're a good fit for the role.)

We'll show you how it's done to the music first.

- Sure. / - You start standing.

- Shall we? / - Yes.

(The sequence starts with a tricky lift.)

(The mystical number accentuates the lines.)

Turn once.

You can stay here

and lower the arms slowly.

And go.

(Elegant moves are danced to an oriental melody.)

And three.

The arms will be comfortable like so.

There.

The waist is held while you lift your back leg.

(The two dancers are together throughout the dance.)

Now lean back.

To the front and back.

(A challenging pas de deux and balance is key.)

Lean back.

Turn around and face each other.

Now bow.

That's how it goes.

Let's start with Jiwon.

(The best dancer performs first again.)

- Already? / - Just like that?

We'll see Jiwon first.

Right from the top?

(Her eyes are glued on them.)

Like this.

(Jiwon's Arabian doll dance)

The music's good, so keep dancing.

(The lift is perfect.)

- And then. / - Turn once first.

(Director Kim watches with eyes of a hawk.)

Like this.

(Yoonah and Sungeun focus on them.)

- And go. / - To this side first.

- To the right. / - This side?

- No, to the left. / - I got confused.

To the right.

Now to the left. Get ready to lean forward.

(They can't just sit and watch.)

Let's go right into the arabesque.

- Passe, and then lean back. / - This way?

That's it. Now turn around.

(Jiwon still managed a stable performance.)

Now sit.

Okay, good.

That was great. Let's turn off the music.

So, Jiwon now knows how the dance goes.

- Shouldn't I do it once more? / - No.

- That's not necessary. / - I messed up.

- Next up is Yeonjae. / - Gosh.

The student and her mentor.

(It's been a while since they danced together.)

Oh, gosh.

- He seems awfully shy about this. / - I know.

(To see after such a long time)

(makes me feel so embarrassed.)

(What do you think you're doing?)

(Yeonjae, what's going on?)

(This is supposed to be a sacred place!)

- I don't know what to do. / - I was so young back.

He doesn't know what to do.

(We won't let you lose your focus!)

- Start with a plie. / - I've never done this before.

Go from a plie to a backbend. Plie...

Now bend backward.

You should bend backward.

You're going up and back.

- Do it with a jump. / - I've never done this before.

- All right. / - Here's how it goes.

Think about placing your torso above his head.

- Like this. / - Up and above.

- Bend backward. / - Like this?

That's it. Now bend down more.

- More. / - More?

This part should be over your partner's hands.

Bend backward toward me.

- I'm so sorry. / - Lean backward.

- It's all right. / - And one.

Let's keep it here for now.

Yes, keep it there if you can't do the lift.

- Watch your feet. / - Goodness.

(She hides her embarrassment by acting cute.)

- I don't know how it's done. / - I see.

Let's cut out the lift for now then.

That's better.

Let's try it with the music.

(It's too bad.)

Get ready.

Make your arms look prettier.

(At least watch your arms.)

- Now. / - Do I walk out?

Come forward.

(Yeonjae's Arabian doll dance)

All right. Now turn.

- And... / - Turn.

(Her turn is stable.)

Stand there for a few beats.

(Staring)

Go to the right first.

And one.

Now to the left.

To the right.

To the left and pose.

(Her hidden femininity)

Good.

Now to the back.

Do it once more.

(Yeonjae has perfect balance.)

Good. Now to the back.

Now soutenu. Turn once.

And sit.

(She ends in a perfect pose.)

Good. That was great. You did well.

You just need to learn the lift.

That you can pick up easily though.

I think it's best if you lost some weight as well.

So who's next?

Next up is Yoonah.

(She's a strong candidate for the role.)

- You can do it. / - Good luck.

You'll do great.

- Think of it as your own. / - Right.

- This role is for you. / - Good luck.

- You can do it. / - Go, go.

(Yoonah begins nervously.)

The dance was beautiful.

It was feminine and sexy.

The character captivates the audience's attention.

I want to play the role so badly.

(Sniffing)

(When she met with Siyoung,)

(Yoonah didn't seem to be ambitious.)

I'm not ambitious at all.

(That was her then.)

(She now wants more for herself.)

The performance has a lot of technical elements,

so I truly am worried about

how well I can do this.

(She's more nervous than ever before.)

(Everyone watches in silence.)

(Yoonah's Arabian doll dance)

Yoonah, lean backward more.

(Heave-ho!)

Lean backward more.

- Lean back. Lean back! / - Heave-ho!

- That's it. / - I can't even do that.

Now bring her down.

Turn.

(She doesn't want to make a mistake.)

Lower your shoulders and stand like an Arabian doll.

That's it. Now look out at an angle.

Now to the right.

To the left.

To the right.

(She fits the image of the doll perfectly.)

To the left.

Strike a pose and hold it.

(However)

(She placed the wrong foot.)

(Director Kim watches her like a hawk.)

He will hold your waist as you lift your back leg.

(Goodness)

Kick your leg out this time.

- To the front. / - It goes like this.

Now a soutenu.

Look at him, lower your shoulders, and lift your chin.

Now sit.

(She ends her performance.)

Good.

(She could've done better.)

I want to do better,

and it'll be upsetting to not get the part.

If I'm given the role,

I should probably come out to rehearse every day.

I should at least practice every day at home.

(She wants the role badly.)

Watch from the side and memorize the choreography.

- Sure. / - Now...

- Sungeun, you're up. / - I'm not sure of the lift.

It's all right. Let's just try it.

(I shouldn't have eaten so much at lunch.)

It's as if I'm being dragged along.

(Did she commit a crime?)

You were in position the first time.

- Really? / - Yes, at the beginning.

(You're almost there, Yoonah.)

You now know how it's supposed to be.

- Yes, I know now. / - That's right.

(Screaming)

- Lean backward. / - Goodness!

(Groaning)

- You... / - Lift yourself up and then bend backward.

(Sungeun once again entertains us.)

(She blesses us with laughter.)

(Leave!)

(Please give me another chance.)

- In one, two, three. / - In one, two, three.

Bend backward. Good...

Good...

(Oh, gosh.)

Oh no.

I was stiff the whole time like this.

You were like this.

I couldn't do anything.

(He chokes out how he feels.)

I really want to help you.

- Let's try without the lift. / - You know...

Then...

(Seunghyun's working an extreme part-time job.)

(Let's do it like this for now.)

(Seunghyun, hang in there.)

(Yeonjae, I'm doing fine.)

Bend backward.

(Groaning)

It's all right.

(I always do my best.)

And lift. Bend backward! Good job.

(Although nothing seems to be easy...)

That's great.

- Okay. / - Are you, all right?

Ah, yes.

(I'm hanging in there thanks to those who care.)

It's... Yes, I'm fine.

(Lee Seunghyun, the young man works hard again today.)

- Are you, all right? / - Is he?

- It was a lot for him. / - We're sorry.

I saw how you all played the character,

and now I can picture how the show should be.

I'm meeting with the director very soon.

We'll go over the details,

decide based on what I saw today,

and call you individually with the result.

Next week, the rehearsals will begin.

(Rehearsals begin next week!)

- Seunghyun, when you have the time... / - Yes?

- I don't think he'll stop by. / - Look at him.

- He will help. / - Sure.

I'm sure he will.

I had so much fun today.

Gosh, he's still sweating.

- Thank you. / - Give him a round of applause.

Thank you.

- Thank you. / - Thanks.

(Seoul Arts Center)

- Hello. / - Hi.

Look at your flowers.

- Aren't they adorable? / - They are.

- They're so sweet. / - They're just like Cheng Xiao.

Your flowers match you perfectly too.

- Come on. / - They do.

We've mostly seen each other in ballet skirts,

but we're all dolled up today.

(What they're wearing today do seem different.)

(They're all dolled up today.)

Jiwon!

- She's here. / - Sorry. I'm late again.

No, it's fine.

(With both their hands full,)

(they enter somewhere with huge smiles on their faces.)

(Joowon commemorates her 20 years as a dancer.)

(What does today mean)

(to someone who has danced her whole life?)

20 years for a ballerina is quite a long time.

Most retire at this age.

As a 40-year-old ballerina, I wanted to show everyone

the kind of dancing I have to offer

as a seasoned performer.

I'm reflecting back on my 20 years

and tell the audience the story my body can tell.

That's about it.

(The 20-year mark as a ballerina)

(is a new beginning for her, not the end.)

To have one career in your life

and to live a life while leading it for a long time

must mean something special.

Just watching her dance moved me

and all I can say is that she's awesome.

(We're in awe just to be able to watch her dance.)

You shouldn't feel sorry or break down after failing.

Watching her dance gave me the strength

to push forward the next day and keep going.

I love to dance,

and I've always wanted to learn different genres.

Director Kim is my role model.

(After the show...)

Director!

Hello.

(The swans ambush her in her dressing room.)

- Director. / - Hello!

- You were amazing. / - You truly were.

I cried at the end.

- Your 20 years. / - We're celebrating that.

- Congratulations. / - Happy 20-year anniversary!

Congratulations.

(Happy 20-year anniversary as a ballerina!)

I wish it would help you perform as well.

Yes, of course.

- I was inspired. / - Me too.

- That much? / - It really was.

I could feel your energy and emotions.

- Isn't it just like acting? / - Yes, it is.

Only the way we do it is different.

- Thank you so much. / - Thank you.

Don't forget that you need to practice though.

(Director Kim doesn't miss a beat.)

- Gosh. / - I have a lot of free time now.

- Thank you. / - Congratulations.

Congratulations.

(Thank you all for coming.)

(One cold winter day)

Director Kim has called for us.

- For what? / - I wonder why.

Maybe she felt bad for us

since we're always inside the studio practicing.

- Because we practice too much? / - Really?

Maybe she feels bad for us.

I have a feeling that she'll make us rehearse though.

- No! / - But I didn't bring my gear.

(Why did Director Kim ask them here?)

I didn't bring my shoes.

(Welcome. Is this your first time here?)

- Where is she? / - What time is it?

- Hello. / - Director!

- She's so pretty. / - She looks different.

- You look so pretty. / - Really?

(She flips her hair.)

Really?

(I haven't seen her like this before!)

There's a reason why I asked you here.

Once I tell you, you might all start to worry.

(What now? She's scaring me.)

(Tell me about it.)

A lot of changes were made,

so the cast has been revised.

(The casting for "The Nutcracker" has been revised.)

This is why casting can be so difficult.

Cheng Xiao can play the Chinese doll.

Why don't we have someone who can act the role

even though she's not the best dancer?

- That would be Sungeun. / - If so...

Yeonjae's a great dancer.

She should play the Russian doll then.

Jiwon will play the Sugar Plum Fairy.

- If not... / - Then the Arabian doll.

Yes, I agree.

Let's go and watch how it's done first.

Afterwards, you'll learn the steps and rehearse.

Shall we head to the studio then?

- Yes. / - Sure.

(I guess we should.)

My feet won't budge.

- We're being dragged up there. / - Come on.

My feet won't budge.

(They weren't called to get some fresh air.)

(The dancers rehearse passionately even in the cold.)

(You can see their passion for the art.)

(Hong Sungwook, Art Director)

(Excuse me!)

Hello, everyone.

(They meet the dancers who will accompany them.)

These are the members of The Swan Club.

Meet Jiwon, Cheng Xiao, and Yeonjae.

Hello.

These are the dancers of Wise Ballet,

and he's the art director.

- Hello. / - Hi.

Can we watch you rehearse?

So...

- We should sit over there. / - Right.

We're very sorry.

- Isn't it hard to jump in pointe shoes? / - Yes.

But after a while, you stop feeling the pain.

Is the Russian doll dance next?

That'd be Yeonjae, so watch closely.

I think it'll be tough.

There's a lot of running and jumping.

Yeonjae, watch closely. Focus.

(The traditional Russian dance is portrayed)

(through technically challenging moves to a fast beat.)

(Oh no!)

(The two-person lift)

(Is this for real?)

It looks tough. I'll lose a lot of weight.

I was flustered, and I didn't know what to do.

To be honest,

I wanted to dance a very traditional ballet

in pointe shoes.

It's because I never got the chance to try it before.

I wanted to dance somewhat like a real ballerina.

(Next up is)

(Jiwon's Sugar Plum Fairy.)

(The pas de deux of the prince and Sugar Plum Fairy)

(Since there are many lifts,)

(the partnership between the two must be impeccable.)

(She makes a mental note of the choreography.)

(Oh no!)

I felt pressured.

I didn't know if I could dance that choreography.

Of course, I want the role,

so I'll try my best to be cast in the role.

If I make it, then I'll applaud myself.

If not, then I can at least say that I did my best.

(Yoonah silently walks into the studio.)

(She seems troubled for some reason.)

(Meanwhile, the Sugar Plum Fairy is still dancing.)

(How many turns is this all together?)

(It sure is a challenging role to play.)

(She claps for now.)

I'm doomed.

Do you have to dance all of it?

For real?

I'm exhausted just watching it.

- She asked if I had to do it all. / - It's impossible.

(The Sugar Plum Fairy dances for over ten minutes.)

It's incredible.

You're here. Sungwook, this is Yoonah.

When did you get here?

Did you hear about the role you'll be playing?

- I heard it's a different role. / - Yes.

(After watching the Arabian doll dance,)

(Yoonah wanted the role for herself.)

I want Yoonah to play the Arabian doll.

There are a lot of lifts though.

She's not very good at that.

Even though that Seunghyun is a seasoned dancer,

she still had trouble leaning back.

- The French doll. / - How about that one?

I think she'll be great for that role.

She's very pretty.

I see.

You'll play the French doll which you'll be great at.

- Would you like to see it danced? / - Yes.

Can we see the sequence?

(The dance tells the story of the wolf and shepherd.)

(The dramatic dance adds fun to the ballet.)

From what I've seen so far,

Yoonah has a lot of potentials.

She works very hard, and she's artistic.

I have the highest hopes for her.

(Director Kim's rising star)

You'll dance with three young sheeps.

(She has no idea what Director Kim thinks of her.)

(She watches the French doll dance.)

(Hopping)

(The hopping steps are quite memorable.)

(Drama is added as the wolf appears.)

(It's entertaining.)

(The bad wolf tries to eat the sheep.)

The story was fun,

but I was feeling the pressure too.

It was a confusing session for me.

(This is perfect for Yoonah.)

(I get why it's a fun and dramatic piece,)

(but why is it so long?)

(Do I have to dance all of this?)

(It's fun!)

- I think you'll do well. / - Me?

- But... / - It's perfect for you.

- I won't be wearing pointe shoes. / - No.

Just normal dance shoes.

I'd love for it to be more dramatic.

(Joowon wants Yoonah to shine.)

It looks really hard. What do I do?

(Joowon dreams big while Yoonah worries.)

What do I do?

You'll be able to do it.

What do you think now that you've seen it?

- Yours is... / - Mine's the longest.

There's a lot to memorize.

It seems like a lot, but it won't be too challenging.

I'm sure you'll be able to make it more dramatic.

Today, you'll learn the choreography with your mentors.

We'll then come up with a schedule

so that you can rehearse as much as you can.

Please tell me when you're available.

Everyone's fallen silent.

This is what I was thinking at that time.

"How do I rehearse for the show?"

"How can I move around a job I have next week?"

That's all I could think about.

It was far more challenging than I expected it to be.

(Before they rehearse,)

(they start by warming up.)

We don't have a lot of time, so let's do it fast.

One and two.

Three and four, to the side.

Jiwon, do two or three at once.

We'll do that once more.

And one and two.

To the side, elongate!

(She's harsher than she usually is.)

Yeonjae, kick higher! That's it.

To the side, one and two.

Good.

That's enough warming up for today.

We'll now start rehearsing.

(This is exhausting.)

You'll have to warm up like this every day.

(Every day?)

Since it's not my field of expertise,

I found it very challenging.

Whenever I head home after practice,

I do feel somewhat fulfilling.

However, I stress out too much

when I'm actually practicing.

(They begin their individual rehearsals.)

Let's try this.

(He's a familiar face!)

(We met him during the pas de deux class.)

(Ballerino Kim Hyunwoong)

(He will be the prince for Jiwon.)

Use your torso more.

- I can't do it. / - Again.

Do it one at a time.

Hold his arm. Just grab onto him.

Then look at him.

- Exactly. / - Use me as a slave.

That's it.

Use him to the maximum.

That's how slow dancing should be done.

Joowon always grabs onto me like a hook.

That's how she is.

You'll look more in unison that way.

Feel him as you lean backward.

Passe. Good.

- What now? / - Do we turn once more?

Yes. Wait, the arms seem off.

(They're not in sync quite yet.)

The pas de deux is built on a level of great trust.

We have to be in perfect unison

to look our best and not injure ourselves.

How we unite on stage is the key to this performance.

One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight.

(Yeonjae learns the Russian doll dance.)

Plie and jump.

Turn and like this.

(She seems to have nearly memorized it all.)

It won't take long now.

I haven't done any lifting before.

Just hold on to the male dancers' shoulders.

They'll flip you themselves.

- Then you come down. / - Right.

You just have to hold your leg up.

- It's scary. / - Let's try.

- Run over to them. / - Hold onto us.

(They will flip her once she's in position.)

You immediately turn around.

(Dizzy)

- Then... / - Jump!

(She has to transition into another lift.)

That's it.

One, two, three, four.

(Yeonjae is a fast learner.)

Right hand, both hands.

(She was scared of the lifts,)

(but she manages them as well.)

All right. Good.

(Cheng Xiao's new role is the Columbine doll.)

(Squeaky)

(The wind-up doll from the gift box)

(moves in a lovely and adorable way.)

You turn to your left?

(Turning to the left is uncommon.)

- Really? Is that more comfortable? / - Yes.

Hold on. Let me turn the other way.

(She can turn to the right as well.)

My gosh. You can do both.

- Does she know the choreography? / - She's fast.

- Isn't she smart? / - She is.

She's a fast learner.

Let's see it then.

Run it down to the music.

(She can already dance to the music.)

Good.

That's great.

I've always been able to pick choreography up fast.

Still, there's a lot of detail I need to go over.

You've memorized the choreography, and you look pretty.

You're still too soft though.

Be stiffer like a real doll

and think about how to make it more dramatic.

- Okay. / - Good job.

And up and two.

Sous-sus.

Next...

Hold on. Do I have to stay in this position?

(Gosh, this is hard.)

Down and battement. Now step back.

(There are a lot of steps to memorize.)

And up.

What about my feet?

Like this.

In sous-sus, bring the back leg forward.

Now turn half a circle. Nice.

- Isn't this most confusing? / - It is.

Let's try that again then.

How much have I learned?

Am I still at the beginning?

Later on, there will be others.

(She's already been sweating this much,)

(but she still can't memorize the choreography.)

I can't memorize all these steps.

Why would you give me something so long?

(She lets out the frustration she's been holding in.)

I'm really bad at memorizing choreography.

It's all in the repetition.

Once you do the right and the left...

(She sighs from deep down.)

There are too many steps.

(She moves forward and backward.)

I don't remember anything that comes next.

We'll take it slowly from the top then.

We'll go over and over what you can't remember.

I have a hard time memorizing the choreography.

It really drives me up the wall.

I mean...

I usually get lost in my work.

When I can't memorize my lines,

I'd practice until five in the morning.

This whole project got real so very fast.

(Joowon watches Yeonjae as she practices.)

Why is it so fast?

Good.

Good.

(Who would believe that it's her first rehearsal?)

(She's pleased.)

(Great!)

(Joowon encourages her with a round of applause.)

It's exhausting!

You did great. You just have to work on the tempo now.

- It's fast. / - You've not danced to the music before.

- I was taken aback. / - Right.

Do the swans really have to audition?

(She's proud of their abilities.)

They're just so good.

Yeonjae, take a break.

(Nice!)

Yeonjae and Cheng Xiao can take a break.

Tell Yoonah to come up. I'd like to see her progress.

You'll head up after one last run through.

Already?

(Are the others done already?)

Is it already time to go?

I haven't learned much though.

Director Kim wants to help you with your moves.

I was close to being angry.

All this time, I've been going through the steps

trying to memorize them.

However, ballet isn't something

that you suddenly become good at.

(She can't dance the way she wants to.)

Yoonah's here.

Let's see it.

We changed the choreography a bit, but...

I'd like to see it.

(I haven't memorized it yet.)

(She hasn't even memorized the first part.)

What was it again?

Do it again. Start with your left foot.

(Let me see...)

Okay, good. Now passe.

Let's start from the step sequence again.

Next.

It's the same. One, two, three, four.

(Unlike before, she seems frustrated.)

Yoonah, on this move,

you should straighten the back leg.

Keep in mind that you have to straighten it. Let's go.

I haven't fully marked the left side yet.

And, and...

Both hands should be out front. What's next?

Repeat the move.

It's better to raise the other arm.

The moves repeat themselves in a different direction.

What follows that?

The sheep appear.

After that, it's more of the drama.

Once this part is over, it's mostly theatrical.

Just repeat it until your body learns it.

Once you do that, you can add the emotions.

You're doing fine, and you have great lines.

There are too many steps for me to learn.

If you have time, practice more before you go.

(Eventually...)

We're not trained dancers,

so to do it without basic training...

Not being able to do simple moves

makes me feel like a failure.

I'm not encouraged. I'm just frustrated.

My eyes were brimming with tears earlier.

The teacher kept talking the terms

that I haven't learned, and it made me feel stupid.

(Will Yoonah be able to carry on?)

(The next day)

(Who is alone in the dancing studio?)

(It's Jumi!)

- Hello. / - Hi.

I'm sorry to call you on your day off.

- No, it's fine. / - I have to go abroad.

(I'm off!)

(She left to attend a fashion show.)

I have to practice ballet here as well.

(She has "The Nutcracker" on her phone.)

I have to audition when I go back to Seoul.

It's to see if I can play the role.

I have to memorize this.

(She learns the choreography with her eyes.)

At the beginning, we all make an entrance.

- We walk. / - Yes, once around the stage.

(Jumi will play Clara's mom)

(who leads the party with her elegant leadership.)

Next is this.

(She slowly learns the choreography.)

Three, four, five.

- Again. / - The other foot.

The other foot? At first,

my right foot is at the front twice.

After I walk in a circle, it's the other foot.

Okay, so let's write this down.

This is what I need to keep in mind.

Right foot, left foot, right foot, left foot.

Then my arm goes this way.

Only I can decipher this.

Right foot, left foot, and right foot.

Then I turn with my arm up.

- This way. / - So my face looks out this way.

At two o'clock. Now I lift my arms.

- All right. / - Unbelievable.

After, I turn like this. Am I doing this correctly?

- Can you read that? / - Yes, I can.

Then I turn like so. Oh, I get it.

(I get it!)

An amateur like me couldn't possibly tell

the moves from that video.

I couldn't see anything even though I enlarged it.

Also, Clara's mom is wearing a long skirt.

(The mentor helping Sungeun)

(It's also Kim Hyunwoong.)

- Yes. / - Then what's next?

Yes, that's it.

- Like this? / - Yes.

(Sungeun will play the sexy)

(and charismatic Chinese doll)

(and collaborate with b-boys on stage.)

Bend and kick.

(While Sungeun and Jiwon practice...)

Hello.

Hi.

(Director Kim enters.)

Hello.

- Sorry? / - You're perfect for the part.

- Really? / - Yes.

I don't know if I can do it.

(However)

Isn't Yoonah here? Where's Yoonah?

(Joowon looks for Yoonah who promised to be here.)

(Yoonah isn't present for today's practice.)

(She was told to practice whenever she has time)

(and that there were no shortcuts to getting better.)

(So, why isn't she at practice today?)

(They meet again to practice.)

Sungeun's almost here. Shouldn't Yoonah be too?

(Gosh...)

(Cheng Xiao starts practicing since she's here early.)

(She has memorized the entire choreography.)

(Good job.)

- Isn't she good? / - She is.

(Just then...)

- Hello. / - Hi. When did you get here?

- Sorry? / - When did you get here?

Just now.

I wasn't feeling well,

so I thought about skipping today's practice.

I pulled myself together and came to the studio.

I'm exhausted though.

The entire performance is a great burden too.

I was shocked when I first saw the choreography.

I knew it'll look awful if I didn't do the exact moves.

That's why I thought

I should drop out if there weren't more roles for me.

Really?

It's not just about the mistakes.

Not striking the exact poses

will make the whole dance seem awkward.

But we haven't practiced anything yet.

I believe you'll be able to do it.

I can see the potential you have.

That's why I believe in you.

So don't worry too much and start practicing.

If you need extra help, Hyunwoong or I will

visit you on the drama set.

- You can do it. / - I'll try.

(She braces herself)

(and starts to practice.)

- All right. / - Lift your heels.

Right.

(Cheng Xiao enters quietly while they warm up.)

(She has a serious look on her face though.)

Okay, good.

Cheng Xiao?

What's wrong?

Cheng Xiao?

- What's wrong? / - Why are you crying?

(Cheng Xiao)

(is crying.)

- Cheng Xiao, what's wrong? / - What is it?

(What's going on?)

- What is it? / - What's wrong?

Gosh. Did something happen?

Is something wrong?

I'm exhausted.

- She's exhausted. / - Oh no.

I'm so sorry for putting you through all this.

I'm sorry.

Gosh. Are you all right?

- She's just been doing so well. / - Get her a tissue.

I know.

I guess we've been asking too much too soon.

(They had no idea she was this exhausted.)

- My goodness. / - You were doing so well.

You were so good that...

(What?)

(Why is she smiling all of a sudden?)

- What? / - ♪ Happy birthday to you ♪

(A candid camera for Yoonah's birthday!)

- ♪ Happy birthday to you ♪ / - Were you acting?

- ♪ Happy birthday, dear Yoonah ♪ / - Seriously?

- Were you acting? / - ♪ Happy birthday to you ♪

(The heroine of the show bursts out laughing!)

Let's get this show on the road.

I thought about tricking her with a candid camera.

- Let's do it. / - What if I can't cry?

(Project Cheng Xiao's Tears)

(She drains power from the universe to shed a tear.)

(Though she's startled, she does what she has to do.)

I can't believe it.

- Happy birthday. / - Happy birthday.

(She's moved but also angry.)

You fell for it.

- I mean... / - Weren't you suspicious?

No, you had me fooled.

I was completely focused.

- You tricked me too. / - Right?

She didn't know in advance.

- Gosh. / - That was some great acting.

- We did it. / - Yes, we did!

(The fun birthday party is now over.)

- Do you remember the moves? / - Yes.

Let's go over the choreography then.

(She tries to memorize what she learned.)

Good.

One, two, and three.

And sous-sus.

Yes. Just like that. Good.

- That was great. / - I memorized it all.

- But that day... / - I practiced at home.

I see you practiced a lot.

That was amazing. Now let's add one thing.

When you hop, lift your chin up and look ahead.

Yes, that's it.

Can you do chaine turns?

- Could you do that into the pose? / - Sure.

Turn, turn, and pose.

Yes, it looks pretty.

Let's try this too.

Do you know what a sissonne is?

Try jumping. Yes, good.

Your hand and chin go up.

Now come to the center.

Tell them that you have adorable sheep.

Then respond dramatically as they enter.

Yes, good.

- Let's dance it to the music. / - Okay.

Here we go.

"These are the sheep that I take care of."

Here comes the wolf.

Good.

That'll be all for today. It was amazing.

You did all of this in a day.

It's quite impressive.

- Really? / - Yes.

(Yoonah, that was great.)

You did so well. I'm so happy.

(Joowon gives Yoonah a warm hug.)

- Thank you. / - Take a break. You need it.

(She may be exhausted, but...)

Do we practice again tomorrow?

I would love for you to, but could you do it?

I can be here by 3 p.m.

Then we'll warm up then

and proceed based on your condition.

(There's only a week left before the audition.)

I feel like I'm auditioning for the first time.

(It's been a while since they're auditioned.)

I don't know.

For a ballerina, an audition

is like a thin ice.

(Will Cheng Xiao pass today's audition?)

(What happened to Cheng Xiao?)

(The Swan Club's cutthroat audition)

(The swans try their very best.)

It's not a variety show once you take the stage.

I had high hopes for you.

I want the audience to see a perfect performance.

Not all can perform on stage.

(What happened to the swans?)

(Will they not be able to perform in Busan?)

(Will their dream end here?)

(Jiwon's unexpected injury)

It's impossible. You really shouldn't.

(Jiwon is in a lot of pain.)

When I was younger, I liked to build stuff, I liked to do things with my hands.

I like the fast pace, I think it's really exciting.

My name is Megan Burgos, I am an avionics specialist on the F-15 aircraft.

If we hear the siren go off, we pretty much try to get out to the jet as fast as we can.

The aircraft will land, it'll taxi around here, the crew chief will marshal him into

the spot.

I'll be on the side with one of the chocks so that I can stop the tyres.

After I pinned the jet and chocked the jet, the weapons crew will come and safe all the

weapons systems on the jet.

As a team, as a whole shift, we work really well together, we all help everybody out.

When I decided to join the military, I knew I didn't want to work behind a desk.

My favourite part of my job I guess would be, when the pilot comes down and he has some

sort of issue with the jet and I can talk to him and we can try to fix it.

When we do, that's a really good feeling, to know that you helped get the jet in the air.

Young Talents: Pablo Maffeo, Girona FC - Duration: 1:44.

He made his debut at the young age of 15 with the Espanyol reserve side in the Second Division B.

Pablo Maffeo quickly became one of the star players in the youth team, his talent was soon spotted

by Manchester City.

In 2013, before he was 16 years old, the young talent from Sant Joan Despi received an offer from the

English club, and he is still on their books today.

He played in their junior sides and made his debut with the first team under Pep Guardiola.

It was in a preliminary round of the Champions League against Steaua Bucharest.

In 2015 he was loaned to Girona FC.

His time at the Catalan club has been divided into three distinct phases, all of which have helped his development

as a player.

First the season in which he just missed promotion with the club,

next, the year he celebrated promotion to LaLiga

and finally playing in the top flight of Spanish football.

Last season he got his first goal in a game against Gimnastic Tarragona. He is currently one of the key

players in Pablo Machin's side.

When they faced FC Barcelona the coach gave him the most difficult task one could ask of a defender:

marking Messi.

Maffeo didn't let him down.

He successfully shadowed the Argentinian for the 80 minutes he was on the field.

Despite his side's defeat, it will take a long time for the defender to forget the day when he stopped Messi

from being Messi.
