Hello everyone then today 17 December I wanted to I promised you
announces the launch of the most ambitious in the history of Kalaweit
a project as important as it is extremely urgent. So everything starts there is
several months when I receive information regarding a very beautiful
forest around a lake. We had heard about this lake because
twice we had received crocodiles that had been caught
in nets there, so curious I performed aerial spotting
in paramotor is there from the sky I discovered a very very beautiful forest
unfortunately surrounded by companies of palm oil and coal
but this forest roughly represents 1500 hectares and 1500 hectares
It's not nothing.
So in late October I decided to go do the first ground tracking and in
penetrating the forest... A huge surprise ... Traces of animals everywhere ...
Sunbears ... Sambar deers ... Clouded leopards ... Gibbons in the trees
langurs ...
and after ten minutes of walking the first nest of orangutan ... I was going
to find many of them, before my first meeting...
It's been just ten minutes in the forest, and I already found
what I was looking for, there is an orangutan nest.
So it's an old nest but it proves already the existence of orangutans in the
area.
So obviously you can follow the details of these survey in the
next episodes of the series "in the World of Kalaweit"
but today it's time to save these animals and this forest.
Indeed this forest became the sanctuary for maybe a hundred
of orangutans who have fled the deforestation caused by companies
of palm oil and coal
And the other observation while going on the spot is that the economy of the villagers is
focused on fishing, fishing in this lake, during all these years they have
protected the forest to protect the water quality but like all the
forest belongs to private landowners, it may well be that
people are selling to companies, the forest is being destroyed and the erosion
at the end destroys the lake, and therefore the resources of the villagers. All
villagers including the village chief want to work with Kalaweit to
save this forest. We have signed a memorandum of understanding with the chief
village on December 3rd, they want to see Kalaweit buy the
land before companies to protect this forest but you have to do
quick. Some companies have already measured
some lands and if we want to save these animals, save these orangutans the
only way is to buy before them and many hectares. The hectare costs
about 15 million of Rupiah, or 900 euros. Kalaweit already knows
how to create and protect conservation areas, then at first I
do not give you the exact name of the area. It is located in the province of
central Kalimantan, that's all that I can tell you for the moment, it's
very important since we are still in a critical situation.
Create private reserves by buying land is the only way to save
these orangs outans like this female that I present to you. I baptized her
Dulan, she fled deforestation caused by
the palm oil companies and she has found refuge in this forest
No big and long utopian and idyllic speech about conservation
will save her, hope is only in concrete actions, the reality of the ground
is this: the companies and the private landowners, the
private planters, buy now to destroy the forest and we need
to buy the land before them. In areas where Kalaweit has already bought
the forest, the villagers thank us already since obviously they can
always practice their ancestral and traditional activities
such as gathering, collecting rattan, only things that Kalaweit forbids
it is obviously logging and hunting. To save this forest, its
inhabitants, we must freeze the land with the support of the villagers
what we already have, I need your support, to relay
Information, we will buy 30 hectares
now and then we will have to buy 100, 200, 300 hectares, the problem is
that when Kalaweit will start to buy land, companies
may accelerate their own purchases...
In short, there is urgency you have understood ... So I know it's a big project
and that you are very solicited, but there is no more concrete and then enough
all these reports that draw a portrait alarming of the planet
time is up for action and we must act now to save what we can.
Those who talk to you about specific cases, issues
easily identifiable, are those who are really fighting on the ground
to make a difference, I'm not talking about studies, reports,
census, I'm talking to you about protection, safeguarding,
roll up the sleeves, to silence Chainsaws and guns ...
Join us and help us to buy land as much as we can, to save these
men of the forest, so ideally let's look at the 1500 hectares, obviously, but
everything that will be bought by Kalaweit, will not be destroyed, the fate of these
animals, of these orangs utans, of Dulan, is in our hands
I promise you, I will not disappoint you no, I will continue to fight again
and always, to save these animals ... Help me,
talk around you, join us, send an e-mail for more
information to the address that appears at the bottom of the screen
if you also want to be part of this adventure send an e-mail
imagine actions, fundraising actions, we can do it together
And I also propose you to send me all your questions regarding this
new project through the comments of the various posts
about this video on Youtube, Facebook,
instagram, twitter, and I will answer to all your questions in the first
video of January.. That's it...
The challenge : save almost a hundred Orangutans, save Dulan, and 1500
hectares of forest became a refuge for exceptional biodiversity, the situation
is simple, we buy the land, we buy this forest, we save Dulan and
its congeners.
we do nothing...
They die...
