Hey guys its Sagar from Tecworkz, and as you guys saw from the title, today we are going
to compare the cameras on the Redmi Note 6 Pro , with the ones on the POCO F1.
From all the comments I have been getting for the last couple of weeks, I know a lot
of you guys have been waiting for this video.
Xiaomi has tried really hard to place both these phones as far away from each other as
possible.
Redmi Note 6 Pro is their budget allrounder which starts at under Rs.15,000.
Whereas POCO F1 is their budget Flagship smartphone, which is supposed to compete with its much
more expensive Android counterparts.
But the cameras on both these phones have similar specs on paper, and that makes everyone
wonder, if they can spend less money on the Redmi Note 6 Pro, and still end up with the
camera performance like the POCO F1.
Primary camera on both the phones have 12 megapixel sensors with F/1.9 aperture, and
large individual pixel size of 1.4 micron.
Both also use dual pixel phase detection for Autofocusing.
As I said, both these phones have similar camera specs.
But POCO F1 is using Sony's camera sensors, while the Redmi Note 6 Pro comes with Samsung's
camera sensors.
Secondary camera has a 5 megapixel depth sensor on both, with an individual pixel size of
1.12 micron.
POCO F1 has an F/2.0 aperture, while the Note 6 Pro has an F/2.2 aperture on the secondary
camera.
At the front POCO F1 gets a Samsung 20 megapixel sensor with F/2.0 aperture.
And the Redmi Note 6 Pro comes with a dual camera setup at the front as well, where the
primary camera is again a Samsung 20 megapixel sensor with F/2.0 aperture.
And the secondary camera has a 2 megapixel depth sensor with F/2.2 aperture.
Both the phones have AI scene detection on the rear camera, but on the Redmi Note 6 Pro,
we get some AI enhancements on the front facing camera as well.
If you want a detailed look at the camera interface, or if you want to check out my
individual camera reviews of both these phones, I'll leave a card to them on the top right
of the screen and also link them in the description section.
Since many people ask me about this in the comments, Both the phones are running on the
latest software, which was available at the time of uploading this video.
Now before we move on to the image and video samples, make sure to hit the subscribe button,
so you don't miss out on any of the amazing videos, coming up on this channel.
Both phones have similar camera hardware, but the Snapdragon 845 processor combined
with the powerful image signal processor on the POCO F1, are much better at processing
the information that the camera sensor gathers, compared to the Snapdragon 636 processor of
the Redmi Note 6 Pro.
So with that, lets check out image and video samples from these phones.
There are plenty of details in the images from both these phones.
I observed and said it in its dedicated camera review as well, that the POCO F1 adds green
hue or tint to most of its images.
It is capable of taking incredible images, but the performance is not consistent.
I am not saying that the POCO F1 is not good, but you can see for yourself, that the colours
that it captures in most of the images, don't seem very natural.
This is mostly noticeable when you compare its images with other smartphone, like we
are doing in this video.
There is AI mode on both these phones, but it mostly just adds in saturation, and bit
of sharpness to the images.
Personally I am not a big fan of the AI mode on these or any other smartphones.
But its a matter of personal preference, so you can try taking some images with and without
the AI mode and see which ones do you prefer.
POCO F1 shows better dynamic range by default, as you can see in this image.
But as we turn on the HDR mode, Redmi Note 6 Pro seem to be bringing up more details
from the shadows, and preserving the highlights.
In this HDR shot, you can again see slight green tint in the image from the POCO F1.
Both the phones have dual pixel phase detection autofocusing, so you can see, both are quick
at switching their focus from far to near objects, and then back again.
While autofocus is important for video, it is equally, or maybe even more important while
taking close up and macro shots like these.
Both the phones had no issues with quick and accurate focusing while taking these shots.
Thanks to the wide F/1.9 aperture on both, the background is blurred out very nicely.
Main subject that we are trying to capture is a bit softer in the image from the POCO
F1, while it is very sharp in the images from the Redmi Note 6 Pro.
Its not a huge difference, but something you notice when comparing these images side by
side.
Coming to the portrait shots.
Both do a good job of detecting the edges and separating the subject from the background.
With a higher price point and much better processor, we expect the POCO F1 to be better
at taking portrait shots, but the Note 6 Pro with its underpowered processor and a lower
price tag, is also doing a great job here.
Surprisingly, POCO is showing better colours in these portrait shots.
Subject that we want to be in focus is a bit softer in the images from the POCO F1, but
its low light portrait shots are overall brighter, and it is doing a better job than the Redmi
Note 6 Pro.
Even with portrait shots of objects, POCO F1 is showing better colours and dynamic range.
Although the colours are better on POCO, Note 6 Pro is taking surprisingly good images for
the price at which it comes in.
Both do an excellent job of accurately detecting the edges of complex objects, and blurring
the background.
On both these phones, you can change the amount of blur in the background of portrait images,
and add various light trail and portrait lighting effects.
POCO can handle these effects thanks to the Snapdragon 845 processor, but the Note 6 Pro
with Snapdragon 636 processor is also handling all these effects flawlessly.
As the light starts to go down, we see some interesting results.
Images from the POCO F1 are brighter, but the ones from the Note 6 Pro are showing more
details in the brighter areas.
Colours from the Note 6 Pro seem a bit more saturated in these situations, while the ones
from the POCO F1 seem to show accurate colours in artificial light.
There are plenty of details in these low light images from both the phones, but the images
from the Note 6 Pro have less noise in them.
In my dedicated camera review of the Redmi Note 6 Pro, and its comparison with the Mi
A2, we saw that it is really good at handling the exposure in low light shots.
But the POCO F1 is even better at this, its just that POCO is not consistent at doing
a good job.
In some of the shots, it handles the brighter areas like a champ, while in others, it overexposes
them.
Redmi Note 6 pro on the other hand has a very consistent performance in almost all of the
lighting situations.
That brings us to the front facing cameras.
Both phones have similar primary sensors at the front, so the results are pretty similar.
Redmi Note 6 Pro has a 2 megapixel secondary camera at the front, which should be helping
it take better portrait selfies, but to be honest, other than the slight shift in colour,
you wont notice a big difference in the portrait selfies from both these phones.
These selfies are equally sharp and detailed from both the phones.
Here is a video from the front facing camera of the Redmi Note 6 Pro and the POCO F1.
You can see how both these phones handle the exposure of the background, overall colours
of the scene, and the stabilisation as I walk with these phones.
Here is a 1080p 30fps video sample from both the phones.
EIS helps stabilise the footage on both phones.
POCO is capable of shooting 4k 30fps videos, but those videos are not stabilised.
Note 6 pro can shoot 120fps slow motion videos in 720p resolution, while the POCO F1 is capable
of taking 240fps videos in 1080p and 720p resolution.
We saw over 50 image and video samples.
POCO F1 shows better dynamic range and contrast in day light, but other than that, most of
the images from both the phones look almost similar.
I even prefer the colours from the Redmi Note 6 Pro.
Going into this video, I am sure we expected POCO to come on top with a clear margin, but
the Redmi Note 6 Pro is giving a very tough competition.
It also captures sharper close up shots, and performs extremely well in lower lighting
situations, despite of being priced lower than the POCO F1.
POCO while being slightly better is pretty inconsistent with its results in many situations.
If you want a slightly better camera and a phone with overall better performance, I would
suggest you to go with the POCO F1.
But if you can't stretch you're budget beyond 15,000Rs, you can get the Redmi Note 6 pro,
as it also has a very good set of cameras.
Price difference between these phones is close to 7000Rs.
For some of you, it might be a very small difference, and going for the POCO F1, might
seem like a no brainer.
But I know, for some people the same 7000Rs difference might be a huge deal, and for them
the Redmi Note 6 Pro is a great smartphone.
I hope you guys agree with that.
