South Korea hit hard by Typhoon Soulik _ 082318 - Duration: 1:37.Typhoon Soulik is now at a size considered "medium," according to the weather agency.
Data show its trajectory changing though.
Let's go to our Michelle Park at the weather center for the details.
Michelle?
Yes Devin, the course has changed.
Before, it was expected to make landfall at Boryeong Chungcheongnam-do province but it
seems to be traveling more towards the south and the nearby city of Seochon.
As it made the turn, the speed of the typhoon's movement slowed down 7 to 4 kilometers per
hour.
The typhoon will enter the West Sea tonight, near Mokpo,... and by 4 AM tomorrow, it's
expected to pass through Chungcheongnam-do Province.
By 9 AM, it's expected to be north of Chungcheongbuk-do province, and then move all the way to the
east coast by around 2 in the afternoon.
This means, the typhoon will have less effect on the central region,... but more on the
east and the south.
Typhoon warnings are currently in effect on Jeju, the coast of Jeollanam-do Province and
along the southern sea, which has been getting an enormous amount of rain already.
Throughout the evening, the typhoon alerts are forecast to spread across the central
region as well.
Along with strong winds, there's heavy rain.
Most places will get between 50 and 100 millimeters,... and in a few cases even up to 150 millimeters.
But... the east coast of Gangwon-do Province and the southwest coasts will get up to 300
millimeters and 400 millimeters respectively.
Back to you Devin.

Typhoon Soulik leaves trail of damage in Jeju; set to hit Seoul tomorrow - Duration: 1:56.This storm is more powerful than you typically see in Northeast Asia.
It's well over 300 kilometers in radius, and inside wind speeds are clocking in at over
thirty three meters per second, or around 120 kilometers an hour.
Our Choi Si-young is in Mokpo, at the southern tip of the Korean Peninsula... and he joins
us now.
Si-young, when I spoke with you earlier you were getting rained on pretty hard and the
wind was strong already.
But now it's picking up?
That's right, Devin.
As we speak, the eye of typhoon Soulik is still in waters off the southern coast of
Korea.
As you can see, it's windy.
I can feel the wind and rain getting stronger by the minute.
Local residents say they have tied their boats to the dock for the incoming typhoon.
On Wednesday, two tourists on Jeju Island -- a man and a woman -- were swept away by
a storm surge caused by the typhoon's winds.
The man managed to swim back safely, but the woman is still unaccounted for.
On the same day, according to the Jeju unit of the Korea Electric Power Corporation, the
power went out in more than 15-hundred households.
Traffic lights on the island also stopped working, and some sea walls have also been
damaged by high waves.
And Siyoung, speaking of Jeju, flights have been canceled there.
What's the situation on flights, ships and any other closures?
"Yes, Devin We have many ferries and flights suspended
temporarily for the typhoon."
All ferries out of Jeollanam-do Province are suspended,... and flights from Jeju International
Airport are still suspended as of now.
Since about 5 p.m. Wednesday, all flights have been cancelled at the airport.
About a total of 600 flights have been cancelled.
Also, all ferries out of Gyeongsangbuk-do Province to Ulleungdo Island are also suspended
The typhoon is expected to hit Chungcheongnam-do Province in the early hours of Thursday, and
Seoul by Friday morning.
I will keep you posted throughout the day.
Back to you, Devin.

but the mainland is now bracing for impact.
For more details let's go to our Michelle Park at the weather center.
Michelle what's the latest stautus on Soulik?
Jangho, typhoon alerts are expanding as Soulik inches closer to mainland.
Currently, Chungcheong-do, Jeolla-do and Gyeongsangnam-do provinces are under typhoon advisories while
warnings are in effect on Jeju Island and the western and southern coasts.
Throughout the evening, most of the nation is expected to be under a typhoon alert.
Soulik is now slowly passing the west sea.
The typhoon's trajectory has shifted a bit so it's more likely to pass through Jeollanam-do
Province rather than through the west coast.

all the way to the east coast by the afternoon.
At this point, the typhoon should affect more along the east coast and the south sea.

millimeters.
But... the east coast of Gangwon-do Province and the southwest coasts will get up to 300
