What's up marketers?
Sam Oh here with Ahrefs, the SEO tool that helps you grow your search traffic, research
your competitors and dominate your niche.
So, word on the street is that Ahrefs has unlocked the position history feature for
all of our "Advanced plan" customers.
Before, advanced users could only see the Google ranking history for the past 6 months
for a keyword, which may not have given you a full scope on a page's ranking history.
But that limitation?
Removed.
So, let's dive right into some actionable tactics, techniques, and strategies that you
can use for your keyword research and your other SEO tasks using position history.
The position history graph can be found in two places outside of Rank Tracker.
And those tools are Keywords Explorer and Site Explorer.
And a massive difference here is that Rank Tracker's position history graph only shows
you the ranking history from the time that you add the keyword to your project, while
our other tools will show you the position history for years!
Now, there are different ways to extract actionable insights from each tool and their respective
ranking history graphs.
First is in Keywords Explorer.
Just type in a keyword phrase you want to analyze and scroll down a touch to the SERP
position history graph.
Here, you'll see the history of the current top 5 ranking pages.
The main use case for this graph inside Keywords Explorer is to analyze SERP volatility.
So are the ranking pages stable or are they jumping in and out of the top 5, 10 or even
top 100 pages.
So you can see that for the search query, "keyword research," the top ranking results
are quite stable.
This tells us a few things.
#1. The search intent for this term is very clear.
Looking at the top 10 results, you can see that almost all of the top ten ranking pages
are "how-tos" or some sort of guide.
And the other two results are Google Keyword Planner and another tool from serps.com.
The main one that stands out is from Keyword Planner.
They have up to 75 times more unique websites linking to their page than the others, yet they still
rank below some of the pages.
So I would take this as an indication that a tool may not be the best way to serve a
searcher's intent for this keyword.
But they still rank because of the sheer amount of quality links.
The position history graph adds a nice extra layer of data to the SERP results so you can
know with confidence which way to attack your target keyword.
So that might be in the form of a how-to guide, a list post, a product page, category page,
or a tool.
The second thing you can do with this graph is to get an idea of ranking velocity.
So if I uncheck the results except our post on keyword research, you'll see that it
popped in and out of the SERPs for months, before we started to get any kind of consistent rankings.
You can see it took about 10 months to rank in the top 5 for this keyword phrase.
And this is a great way to find out how long it might take you to rank and also see which
dates are worth analyzing on your competitors' pages.
Just click on the caret beside the URL, and go to the overview page.
Next, I'll click on "All time" to see the full history since the big jumps on rankings
were over a year ago and scroll down to the New and Lost referring domains graph.
And you'll see that there was a sudden spike in links in April 2017.
Knowing this, you can go to the new backlinks report, select the custom dates for April
2017, and deconstruct your competitors' link building strategies.
Common things you'll find are guest posting campaigns, outreach campaigns, consolidating
content with 301 redirects, PBNs, or sometimes you'll see negative SEO attacks.
I'll get into some more takeaways from this in a bit, but let's look at the keyword
"football," which will show us a completely different kind of result.
Football has a few definitions.
In the northwest, people think of this.
While in the east, people think of this.
Scrolling down to the position history graph for the US search results, you'll see that
the SERPs have been super volatile.
And this tells us that the search intent isn't exactly 100% clear.
Even though most people in the US call this game, "soccer," we can't generalize
that term to every person searching from the United States.
And here's an interesting point to this graph.
If I switch off all of the pages except this one from ESPN, which is related to European
football, or soccer, you'll see that the page appeared out of nowhere.
And this is likely due to increased search queries because of the World Cup.
If we look at the graph for search results in the UK, then you'll see that the search
intent seems to be more clear.
All of these pages are news related category pages.
So here are some key takeaways from graphs like these.
With stable position history graphs like in the keyword research example, you can expect
it to be tough to penetrate the top ranking results.
You'll need to continually build and earn high quality links to get there, which might
take years.
But a huge pro to this is that if you do, you'll likely be able to retain that spot
for the longer term.
Now with highly volatile SERPs, it can be easier to get a top ranking result without
many backlinks.
Look at the US SERPs for the keyword, "football."
You'll see that a couple of the pages barely have any referring domains.
But retaining that ranking is unpredictable.
And this is why understanding search intent is so important.
With this data, you can approach keywords and topics with some kind of confidence because
you'll know what you're getting yourself into.
So weigh out your options and take things from there.
Alright, onto some use cases in Site Explorer.
First, you'll need to enter in a URL, prefix, or a domain.
So I'll do a prefix search for ahrefs.com/blog/.
And then I'll go to the organic keywords report to see all of the keywords that our
blog ranks for.
To open up the position history graph, just click on the icon beside any of the keywords,
and you'll see all of the pages on your target website that have ranked for this term
in the top 100 search results over the set period of time.
So the first way we can use this is to identify keyword cannibalization issues.
Keyword cannibalization is when a website unintentionally targets the same keywords
across multiple posts or pages.
Usually the result is that none of the pages rank particularly well.
So in general, after you find cannibalization issues, you can start consolidating the content
and redirect lower performing pages to the higher performing ones.
I know that our post on broken link building had a bit of an issue before, so if you look
at the history, you'll see that we have one URL that's broken link building, and the other,
which is broken link building method.
So if you have this issue, you can copy the URLs, then go to the batch analysis tool.
Next, paste in the URLs and look at the traffic, as well as the referring domains column.
And you can see that this one is clearly the winner.
And we actually added a 301 redirect here on December 7, 2017, and you can see a slight
increase in organic traffic here.
And then we actually rewrote the guide in April 2018 and it's had much better traffic
growth plus a number one ranking for our target keyword, broken link building.
Another way that some of our agency users have used this graph is to simply take a screenshot
and send it to their clients to show them how bad their keyword cannibalization issues are.
I can only imagine that it helps in converting customers since the issue is so clear on this
graph and it makes you look like a pro who knows what they're doing.
But hey, not all keyword cannibalization issues are really issues at all.
In general, if you're consistently seeing a page from the same domain rank in positions
1 and 2 for a long period of time, then it could be a good thing.
And the most common way that I've seen this is through branded queries.
For example, if we look up the history on the keyword "Zappos shoes," then you can
see that multiple pages from Zappos have consistently ranked high in Google search for different
categories like women's, men's and kid's.
In fact, our very own Tim Soulo was teasing Moz about their keyword cannibalization issue
on the search query, "keyword difficulty."
Another awesome feature is that you can add your competitors on this graph, so you can
get really cool insights on how different pages from different websites have performed
against each other.
So I'll look at the graph for "long tail keywords" and add a couple of our organic
search competitors like Backlinko and Moz.
Next, I'll clean up the graph by just showing the best ranking page from each site.
And since we've all been in the top 20 for a while, I'll narrow our graph down to that
view.
From here, you can start analyzing the pattern in SERP rankings across these different pages.
If you're comparing 3 similar pages, you might find that they have related patterns
when they move up and down.
So a few things that come to mind is that it could be a search intent issue.
So, if you see all of the pages dropping on the same days, or you might see new competitors
penetrating the SERPs, or possibly even algorithmic updates, dare I say those words.
Or if you see one of your competitors skyrocketing to the top, then you're able to go back
and look at their links from specific dates to analyze what they did to climb the rankings.
That might be a new link building campaign, consolidating content, updating their content
or a number of other reasons.
And I'm sure you can see, there are a ton of ways to use ranking history, whether that's
for your own website or to provide visual reports for your clients.
And adding this extra layer of data to your keyword research, competitor analysis, and
technical SEO tasks are only going to give you an edge over your competition.
And I've only briefly covered a few of the techniques.
So, I'd love to hear from you on how you use this graph, or if you haven't used them
yet, which technique will you be trying first?
So give these research methods a shot, get results, and I'll see you in the next tutorial.

Bronia S2A Review and Photos - Duration: 9:05.
Many beautiful things have difficult births or origins beset with strife.
Ireland's great artistic blossoming occurred after famine. America's great
technological growth followed on the heels of multiple wars. Throughout the
history of mainland Europe, the greatest periods of artistic and scientific
advancement followed strife or natural disasters. For humanity, challenge is a
necessary catalyst for creation and, excepting the 1964 Ford Mustang,
creations of true beauty take time, revision, hours, and great and prolonged
thought. Form, shape, and feel are classic words used throughout the last half
century to describe cameras and their use. A modern, and I would argue better,
word is interface. Interface grabs all the older concepts and bundles them into
a nice, tidy package. For the last half century, camera reviewers have gotten a
lot right about describing how to use a camera. What they consistently fail to do,
even what the nice little bundle of concepts in the word interface fails to
do, is move beyond a description of the way that a photographer uses a camera to
discuss the way that a photographer connects with their camera.
No one word better conveys all the myriad aspects of that concept than
connection. A connection is an easy concept to understand. Sure a connection
is plugging a lamp into a wall, but it's more. We FEEL a connection when we look
across the bar at somewhat and our eye contact lasts a little longer than might
be expected. We MAKE a connection with a firm handshake and a greeting. We BUILD,
STRENGTHEN, and MAINTAIN our connections when we invest our time, thoughts, and
emotions. Connections, true and honest and real connections, the kind that lasts for
years or decades, have difficult origins beset with happenstance, conflict, and
challenges. A true connection is a thing of great beauty and value whether it is
with a person, a wild animal, or a camera.
On January 17, 1952, Zenzaburo Yoshino began the design of a lifelong dream:
construction of an amazing and innovative camera. Seven years later, in
1959, the first Bronica meat the world. Seven years. Long enough to go through
college and graduate school. Almost twice as long as the average employee stays
with an employer. Entire stock market cycles can occur in seven years. A child
can progress from birth to the completion of second grade. Think about
your life, where you were, who you were, seven years ago, and ask what in your
life is recognizable today from then. Through that lens, a seven-year design
cycle on a vision, a dream, an unproven product from a company that had
previously made nothing more complicated than a cigarette lighter, becomes a rare
and beautiful venture likely beset with challenges, strife, and hardship.
Nothing like that could happen in the camera world today. From that seven years
of design and engineering, Bronica created one of the most
beautifully designed cameras ever put into mass production. From where I sit, I
am unaware of a more attractive six-by-six camera. The Bronica, like many of the
gorgeous mid-to-late-fifties designs from Japan, channel both the classical
elements of traditional Japanese design while embracing the best parts of
Western design. In one of my favorite personal essays,
Junichiro Tanizaki's "In Praise of Shadows", Tanizaki writes "There are those
who hold the two quibble over matters of taste and the basic necessities of life as
an extravagance, that as long as a house keeps out the cold and as long as food
keeps off starvation, it matters little what they look like." I say let us be
extravagant. Let us quibble over matters of taste in camera design. The Bronica S and C
cameras have clean flowing lines that simultaneously channel and improve on
both the art deco and mid-century modern aesthetics. Those design aesthetics are
filtered through the eye of one of the last generations who could have heard
stories from people who lived before Japan opened itself to the West. I would
argue that in the same way that nostalgia today influences the designs
of modern cars, cameras, buildings, and clothes, a nostalgia for a simpler time
in Japan, for a more traditional design aesthetic, had to influence the
Bronica's design. The Bronica arose from mid-century Japan, a time when Japan
was coming of its own on the international stage and transitioning
from the classic Japan of modern folklore to the Japan that we would
recognize today. Against that backdrop, while other Japanese camera makers were
busy cloning German cameras, Zenzaburo Yoshino was designing his own. Tanizaki,
later in the same paragraph from which I've already read from, goes on to ask of the Japanese
people, "Suppose, for instance, that we had developed our own physics and chemistry:
would not the techniques and industries based on them have taken a different
form..." I say, suppose, for instance that a camera aficionado took it upon himself
to design a camera from scratch using design and engineering principles
clearly Japanese in origin, would not that camera take a different form, with
sensibilities that tastefully and thoughtfully incorporate components in
places and with clean lines that facilitate use and hide the vulgarity of
obviousness that thoughtless design embraces? Would not that much more Japanese design have
looked outwardly elegant and simple yet be operated in a manner second nature to
the photographer? The S2A's user interface is refined to simplify and
streamline every operation. The lens mount and mirror are engineered to make
the camera as small as possible for the film format. The engineering goes to
great lengths to keep the camera body thin and allow the camera to nest well
in almost anybody's hand.
Beautiful design divides people. Beautiful design creates camps of those
who love and those who hate, often with little middle ground. There are large
swaths of people who hate the S2A, write it off as derivative of Hasselblad and
with a dimmer focusing screen. And there are those photographers who have picked
up an S2A, felt a connection, and realized that a camera is more than a
light-proof box with some round glass slapped on the front. I'll paraphrase one
of my friends, a devout Hasselblad man, from a few months ago after I had loaned
him my S2A: "If I had come across the Bronica at the same time as the
Hasselblad, instead of just now, I would be a Bronica user." And the reason for
that is simple. With Bronica, the camera's connection with the
photographer is primary and dictates the camera's construction. With other, similar
systems, the cameras engineering and placement of gears and cams dictates the
camera's construction.
The S2A was designed to allow as many potential uses for as many people as
possible, to gift the photographer with the ability to create beyond the typical
bounds of a camera of this design. Truly, the Bronica S2A is not the sum of the
thoughtfulness, features, and design that defined its origin. The S2A is made more
substantial, more complete, by the creativity and ingenuity which a
connection with this camera inspires and encourages in the photographer.

ARCADE DESIGN - Duration: 1:40.
here we have a virtual reality arcade design app this was a pilot project that we
did working with an arcade design company in the States and here you can
see a very different ambience from our normal apps this one's meant to be
somewhat dark and brooding like the inside of a virtual reality array I
should say an arcade gaming arcade you can see here we have a variety of
different games and you can get up close and really see what's going on
actually step inside the games themselves and get a solid sense of how
it would be to sit inside some of these games but of course importantly what
this particular client was interested in doing was designing the redemption space
over here this is where all of the tickets that you would win redeemed
against different prizes you can see here we have some chocolate bears and
some robots over here some cows and so on at the back and the idea was that
they'd be able to actually interact pick up these things and move them around to
where they'd like them to be we had some fun with this actually some of these
things have normal gravity but if you sneak behind the counter as I am here
you can see that you can fill the space with floating and flying redemption toys
just like that so there you have it a virtual reality arcade Redemption design app

10 Secret YouTube Analytics You Might Not Know But Should! - Duration: 13:12.
We're always told that the most
important analytic on YouTube is watchtime
so why don't we have a real-time
watch time graph? Unless, of course, you go
to the... All right then a
quick straw poll to kick off this video:
how often do you check your YouTube, and
indeed, vidIQ analytics? We've got a
voting poll up here right now do take
part. Also which analytic can you not
live without? You just have to check it
all of the time. Let us know in the
comments below? Hello everyone, my
name is Rob, welcome to vidIQ. If this is
your first time here we are the YouTube
tool and channel that aims to help you
get more views in less time. Any of the
analytics that you see in this video
today that you're not familiar with
they're vidIQ analytics not YouTube
ones. They're part of our Chrome
extension, it is a free to download, and
guess what, there's a link in the
description as well. Now, of course we love
our analytics, to be honest we salivate
over them every single day, and what we
want to show you is some of the less known
analytics on YouTube, and indeed, vidIQ
Hopefully some of these are going to
be wow lightbulb moments I've never seen
these before this is gonna revolutionize
the way I analyze my channel. Let's take a
look right now starting with number one.
All right then the YouTube creator
studio beta, you should now have access
to it. In the analytics section if you
click on reach viewers you'll see this
funnel that we've been talking about a
lot over the last couple of months
impressions and click-through rate. But
what if you wanted to see that at a more
granular level, not at the channel level
but for each individual video in a nice
list? If you go back to overview, click on
top videos, this will list all of your
best videos with impressions and
click-through rate data. With this list
you can see individually which videos
have the highest impressions and success
rate when it comes to a click-through. On
top of that each of these columns are
clickable so you can sort by impressions
click-through rate or just simply
impressions. How powerful is that? The
ability to see which specific videos on
your channel really rock when it comes
to impressions and click-through rate.
Sticking with the theme of new analytics
and the creator studio
beta on YouTube, if you go to reach
viewers you'll see unique
viewers which is essentially saying a
hundred thousand people are watching
191,000 videos on our channel. Or to put
it another way, if you click on build
audience, from every viewer we get a one
point seven views on videos. Obviously
you want to try and raise this as much
as possibl,e have one person watching all
of your content if humanly possible, and
you can tie this into watch time from
subscribers. Assuming that subscribers are
more loyal to your channel, if you can
get more subscribers watching your
content presumably you'll get more views
and more watchtime. Another really cool
new tool on the YouTube creator studio
beta is the video snapshots for your
last video. It shows you how it's
performing in a normalized fashion. For
example for this video in the first 8
hours it's performed 42 percent worse in
watch time, 38 percent better in views,
but 58 percent worse in our view
duration. I wish it was a little more
specific because it doesn't really take
into account the different length of
videos so that's why the watchtime is
down on this video. You can compare it to
your previous video or the previous
three videos and see how the analytics
change there. One thing you can
also do as well as if you mouse over
this section here that says five out of
the last ten videos, it will show you
where this video performed in terms of
raw view count versus your last 10 video.
So again some more analytics will be
useful here and we can only assume that
YouTube will add more but this video
snapshot panel is certainly one to
check out when you launch your most
recent video. Just one more thing to note:
you start to get these watchtime and
views and average view duration analytics
three hours after the video is published.
How much impact do your videos have on
your YouTube channel? You can now get the
answer to this very quickly in the
Creator studio beta as YouTube have
handily added these icons which
indicate when a video is published. For
example here on the 23rd of July we
published a video: how to properly upload
your videos to YouTube, and you can see
on the graph above how that affected
watch time very much in the short term.
And this also applies to reach viewers
when we look at impressions and interest,
general watch time. However that's as
specific as it goes in the creator studio
beta. If we go back to the classic
version we can unlock an entirely new
arsenal of analytics, watch this. On any
major graph in the YouTube analytics
classic version if you click on the
compare metric button here you can
compare, for example, views to watch time
and it will overlay like this. However if
you click on compare metrics and go to
more metrics, look at the number of
data points you can use here. For example
we can do the same thing as we have in
the Creator studio beta so that's videos
published versus watchtime. Or we can
go a lot more specific and have my watchtime
versus like on my videos which
looks like this. So with the tools at
your arsenal, explore and you could spend
hours on these graphs alone. Ah, the vidIQ
real time stats bar. A calming influence
that sits at the top of every single
YouTube page showing
sme how many views my channel got
in the last 60 minutes, and it dovetails
very nicely with YouTube's own analytics
on this topic. But I'm not here to show
you any of them. We're always told that
the most important analytic on YouTube
is watchtime so why don't we have a
real-time watchtime graph... unless, of
course, you go to the creator studio
application on mobile devices, click on
the 28 days watch time graph, then
you've got a time frame at the top and
you can change that to 48 hours or 60
minutes.
I've always been puzzled as to why
YouTube don't share these analytics
anywhere else but now you know where it
is you can go check it out.
Hello folks I'm back because I need to
introduce you to a term called cluster
channels if you're not familiar with it.
Surprisingly you're not the only one
making videos on your topic on YouTube.
There's probably thousands more just
like you so when your videos go onto
YouTube, YouTube will try and share that
content with an audience who watch
similar content on other channels and so
if you see similar videos from other
video creators in the suggested column of
your content, those are effectively a
cluster channel. Why are they important?
This is why. For the majority of YouTube
channels your
views come from suggested videos
and YouTube search. If it's
suggested videos that's cluster
channels driving traffic your way, so
it's really important to find out who
those channels are and what content they are
making. To find out, on YouTube classic
analytics go to traffic sources, then
click on suggested videos and this
lists all of the videos sending
traffic your way. If you mouse over any
of these it gives you a brief thumbnail
preview as well as a channel name. For
example this tech channel that makes a
lot of videos on mobile phones is
getting traffic from a channel called
Droid life and another here sakitech,
and I could scroll down each of these
videos and find out which channels you
most closely associate with. That means
you can go to their channel see what
content they're making and maybe that
will influence you to make similar
content which gets you a more suggested
videos. Two more things I want to look at
from the real-time stats page before we
say goodbye to it for another video. If
you click on device type this will
show you who's watching your content
from what device. In this example vidIQ
is mainly watched on a computer but a
significant number also watch on a
mobile phone, so we may want to adapt our
content for that audience. If we look at
geography we can see who's watching our
videos from what part of a world and
does that influence, potentially,
translations that we may want to do for
our content? For example here on vidIQ a
significant number of people watch from
India, Vietnam and Pakistan. Maybe we want
to think about doing translations for
those countries. One more thing to show you.
You can go into a lot more detail in
both of these analytics. If you click on
devices this will not only show you
playback over the last 28 days for
different devices but it also shows
average view duration for each device as
well. For example, I'm surprised to see
here that on average when people watch
vidIQ on a mobile phone they watch for
15 seconds longer than they do on a
computer. To find out more about location
playback, you can go to demographics and
click the more button here and select
geography and this will show you very
precisely where people are watching your
content throughout the world, which, again,
may help you with language translation
if you want to go
down that route. Hello folks I'm back
once again to ask a question in person.
First of all, do you use video cars like
the one you're seeing in the top right
hand corner right now? Please do vote on
that. Also do you use a branding
watermark that looks something like this
to persuade your audience to subscribe
to your channel? If the answer is yes to
either how do you measure the success
of those? Let's take a look at that right
now. It can be all too easy to put cards
on your videos and then never actually
check how successful they are. In order
to review your cards, go to the card
section on your YouTube creator studio
classic and it'll give you all the
information you need to know as sorted
by number of card clicks. The thing
that you can probably, immediately see
here is just how much people click on
voting polls and if you mouse over the
little voting poll icon it will give you
a breakdown of what people are saying.
That may help you decide what content to
make in the future. As for that branding
watermark, it's hidden a little away in
some old analytics. If you go to
annotations, which, of course, YouTube
doesn't really support anymor,e but if
you click on annotation type it will
show you here how many times your
branding watermark is clicked on. Just to
give you another little extra tip here
as well, we're gonna sort by 90 days here
because we want to show you the
transformation we had on our own channel
when we changed our branding watermark
to look like this and put it on for the
full duration of our videos. So maybe you
want to try that on your channel as well.
Alright folks we've saved the very best
need-to-know analytics until the end and
that comes from vidIQ's very own
channel audit tool. You'll see this
button pretty much on any YouTube page
once you install our Chrome extension
and if you click on it it will give you
a set of data points all about your
channel. At the very top we have a quick
channel health snapshot which shows
how your channel is growing over the
last month. Here though is where things
get really interesting. Content to double
down on. We try to separate this area
into four distinct areas of where you
might want to grow your channel and
these things vary depending on what type
of audience you want to appeal to. For
example if you just want to do trending
videos that are getting views right
now. You want to look at views per hour
or velocity. Or if you want content that
is evergreen over a longer period of
time these are the videos that are performing
for you well over the last month. If you
want to build trust with your audience
and get people to click on that
subscribe button, then these are videos
that are really working out for you. Or
if you want to create a conversation and
have a high level of engagement
these are videos that are working for
you. And as you can see every column is
slightly different in the content so
this is really helpful in helping
you build out content to all of your
audience however you want to attract
them to your channel. But we're not
finished there because below content to
double down on we have average metrics
over the last 30 days which looks at
your SEO. Whether your titles are the
right length, as well as descriptions,
tags, if you're adding videos to
playlists and your average SEO score as
rated by vidIQ. But guess what we're not
finished just there yet. If you scroll
down a little further here are items to
improve on on your entire Channel and
I'm just gonna do this next bit in real
time. I forgot to add some of my videos
to a playlist. This is how quickly it is to
identify an individual video and add it
to a playlist...
That literally took 15 seconds and where
else can you do that on YouTube. Did you
have a favorite from the list that
we've just shown you in new ways to look
at YouTube analytics? Let us know in the
comments below or if you want to get
your hands on that awesome channel
audit tool that we have here at vidIQ,
and it's free to download, there's a link
in the description. We have a full
tutorial on it just over here and if you
want to know more about our thoughts on
impressions and click-through rate we've
got a secret formula video down here
which is a very deep dive into that
particular set of numbers.
We'll see you on those videos right now,
enjoy the rest of your video making day.

TRAINING GARAGE - Duration: 1:24.
this is a quick demo of our latest version of the virtual reality training
garage as you can see as you look around the space we've designed a beautiful
garage we're assured by mechanics this is how
you loved them to look and in this particular garage everything is
interactive so not only do you have a gorgeous view out the window but you can
also actually pick up and use a variety of tools and ventures and everything you
might need to actually take mechanical action of the car itself and some things
are falling into space keep an eye out for those the car itself is highly
interactive you can actually open and close all of the for example doors and
you can get in and have a sense of what it's like to be a passenger or even
drive the car yourself but what's ultimately going to happen in future
versions is the ability to do a training in which you'll be able to make repairs
to the engine itself perhaps change the spark plugs and so on and that's the
idea of our virtual reality garage

RENEW NEWCASTLE - Duration: 1:53.
all right here I am doing a quick demo of our virtual reality design system for
the Renew Newcastle project which is a railway station that's being refurbished
downtown in Newcastle New South Wales we're actually inside one of the spaces
here but before we get into that let's flip outside and show you what we're
looking at here which is in fact a train station which you can probably readily
make out here what we do is we cut this into 2 this is spaces 1 2 3 spaces 4 to
6 separate out and this allows you to move around freely as well as to
actually go inside and investigate the spaces as you can see here in although
restroom stool the particular application of this however is to look
at how to design the interiors of these spaces and I'm going to duck inside here
before those spaces are available because we got access to the plans
probably six maybe even nine months before the space itself is going to be
available and the idea of this particular space was to begin to design
an art studio so we've put in a variety for example of lamps here with the
notion that you could pick everything up and move it around to where you might
like to actually sit in this space get a sense of where the lighting might be
example here's a nice lamp that we can move and here we go and where you'd be
able to you know fit in furniture and so on so that was the idea of this is to
have a chance to design the spaces and get a sense of how they do look
different kitchen finish and so on well before the actual refurbishment of the
railway was complete

How To Take A Selfie Passport Photo - Duration: 6:51.
Hey you're going on the vacation congratulations! You know how I know? Because
you're asking about passport photos on how to do it on your phone. It's cheap
it's fast it's easy I'll walk you through it stay tuned
So you're headed out on a trip soon congratulations! I love traveling
overseas. It's one of my favorite things to do. Before you head out, you need your
passport right? And before you get your passport, you need your passport photo.
Now, there's a few ways to get your passport photo done. You can go pay $10,
$20, $30, to have someone else do it for you then wait for it to
come back and then and get printed off and sent with your your passport but
there are quicker faster and cheaper ways of getting it done and you can do
it right from your phone. The first thing I would recommend is looking at the
specifications that are required for passport photos. You know passport photos
are not meant to be beautiful. They're meant to be very governmental, they're
meant to be very stale. Everything goes against the grain for a good
photographer when they're taking a good passport photo because they are not
meant to be artistic or beautiful in any way. So all the other videos that I've
told you about how to take selfies, how to do good lighting, how to get your
background clean and crisp and how to get a really nice image, you're almost
going to want to ignore all of that and stay right here for this because this is
completely different information because the photo is a completely different
subject, okay? This is different from any other selfie you're going to take. So first
things first, look up on your phone in your App Store or your Google Play Store
whatever you have for apps and look for a passport photo app. Passport photos are
very strictly regimented. They have to have certain proportions of your face to
the frame, they have to be in a certain size, they have to be in a square format.
There's lots of rules and regulations when it comes to passport photos. Down to
the idea of you can't wear a hat, you can't wear glasses and you can't even
show your teeth in the passport photo. They are very, very, very stale and very,
very, very strict. So go to your phone, look up in the App Store for a passport
photo app. Once you find the app, look through it and you can see how it's
going to do a filter for you so you can see where your face is going to show up
in the image, where the proportions need to be so you can just snap a quick photo.
Now, I actually had to use this. Last month, I just got back from Cambodia,
Vietnam and Thailand and I took my daughter with me. Now, we had to go
through the whole passport process for her for the first time because she's 12
years old and has never you before. The funny thing about passports
is they last for 10 years. So if you get a passport as a child, that photo is
going to be you know really off by the time your passport expires and you may need
to renew it anyway. So we had to get her passport photo done and I was on a huge
time crunch. We got the passport done, or you're
definitely going to want to do that 6 to 8 weeks even more in advance. But a
lot of countries will require an extra passport photo for entry. So we're going
to Vietnmam, we're going to Cambodia, we're going to Thailand and each
one of those countries, required additional passport photos in addition
to the passport itself for identification purposes. They required
three extra photos. I'll never forget flying into Vietnam and landing in the
airport and giving them all of my paperwork with all of my visas and
documentation and they use every single photo that I gave them. So this is good
to have on hand. Now again, I said you can go get a passport photo done for 8
or 10 or 20 bucks at any store but if you want to do it for less than a
dollar? This is how it's done. Go to your passport app and line up your photo and
your camera and your screen so that your face is in the proper proportions.
Remember not to have your teeth showing. No glasses, no hats, no anything that
could hide or shade your face. Make sure that your lighting is good. You can't
have half your face in shadow. You need to be facing whatever the light source
is when you're taking a passport photo. Yeah, you can have your flash on, you can
have your flash off, it doesn't matter necessarily, as long as it's well lit. You
can have your flash on on your phone and take a horrible nasty, icky photo but
it's perfect for a passport, right? Horrible, nasty, icky means the artist in
me is totally offended because that's not the photography that I love to do.
But remember, we're going with government here. This is the passport photo. Once
you've got that, some apps will lead you to a checkout process where you then
order the photo and have it shipped to you but if you're like me and you're on
a time crunch and you need to get that passport photo lickety-split to your
pocket in a hardcopy, it's way easier than you think. All you
need to do is take that passport photo on your phone, save it to your phone and
you're automatically going to format it in a square format. What I did is I took
that picture from my phone, I put it on my computer,
made sure it was a 2x2 inch square using Photoshop and then I sent it into a
printer like Walmart to have it printed in one our print shop. You know I'm kind
of embarrassed to tell you how behind the ball I was. I was leaving to go to
the airport for a 2:30 p.m. flight and I printed these passport photos at like
11:30 in the morning. I had hours left to get things off the presses. But I'm
telling you that's how quick, easy and cheap it could be. I printed 4 passport
photos, 3 copies of each in less than an hour by simply using an app for my
phone and I got those prints in my hand within an hour and thirty minutes from
start to finish. So let me just break it down in a simplified version. First thing,
you need to do is download the app. Second thing, you need to do is make sure
when you take that photo that it fits the proportions and the scale that's
outlined by the passport photo app. Number three, take that picture from your
phone, get it to your computer, so it's a 2x2 inch square using Photoshop or
whatever your favorite editing software is. Send that picture off to a print lab
in the one hour photo and get it sent back to you. Now, if you need help getting
that photo sized, you can totally take your phone in and they can help you size
the photo right there in the print lab and get it one hour printed. But you'll
have those passport photos in your hand within an hour and thirty minutes. You
don't have to wait weeks or months and you don't have to spend a fortune to do
it. You can have several photos ready to go. Once you have that passport photo in
your hand, it's actually required to have a hard copy for any new application or
any renewal. So keep an extra copy with you even after you get your passport
back for verification purposes. You never know what different countries are going
to need. Have a hard copy in addition to your passport with you. Again, it's very
simple, super easy. Just download that app on your phone, get those photos printed
and in your hand. Hey, thanks for watching today's video. I hope to see more of you
right here on the channel. Leave me some comments. Subscribe. I'll see you tomorrow.
