Before you start calling me a sack of dragon dung in the comments section, I want you to

know that I'm a huge Harry Potter fan.

I've read all the books, I joined a Slytherin Quidditch team for the release of the last

book, I've been to the Wizarding World, and I've taken all the Pottermore quizzes.

Harry Potter has some beautiful messages about friendship, compassion, love, facing your

fears, and overcoming loss.

That's why I dedicated the first episode of this channel to Harry Potter.

Being able to celebrate the best parts of a story AND calling out its weaker elements

is how media criticism works.

Here's an example: Star Trek is an optimistic story about humanity that also features a

lot of sexism, here and there.

Lord of the Rings is a cinematic masterpiece but every good guy is white and all the people

of color are villains.

See how easy that is?

So what's wrong with Harry Potter?

The Houses of Hogwarts.

The way students are sorted into houses is horrible and sends a bad message to everyone

reading the stories and watching the films.

Let's start with the Sorting Hat.

I'm actually cool with the idea that a sentient hat can use legilimency to read your mind.

It fits in with the magical psychology of the wizarding world, how thoughts can be manipulated

through the mind control imperius curse and the way memories can be extracted and stored

in a pensieve.

My issue is with HOW the Sorting Hat is used.

It understands your personality, talents, and wishes and matches them against the qualities

of the Houses of Hogwarts.

The issue here is your brain, values, and personality, continue developing into your

20s, and there's some evidence your personality continues to change at specific times later

in life.

We have no way of knowing if someone is going to spend the rest of their life being brave

like a Gryffindor, loyal like a Hufflepuff, wise like a Ravenclaw, or cunning like a Slytherin

when they're a pre-teen.

When I was that young, I was quiet and loyal, so the Sorting Hat would have placed me in

Hufflepuff.

But in my 20s I became confident and took a lot of risks, making me more of a Gryffindor.

Now?

I'm ambitious when it comes to the world of media, so I guess I'm a Slytherin.

This ceremony also sends a dangerous message to students - who you are is fixed.

But in reality, when you believe your abilities can grow and you're in a supportive environment,

you can change who you are.

This is called a growth mindset.

But the message at Hogwarts is, "This is who you are, this is who you will be, and

go be with others just like you."

A kid who struggles with reading, gets rejected from Ravenclaw, and is sorted into Gryffindor

might begin to believe they'll never be a great student and should pursue more physically

intensive career paths…like taking care of magical creatures.

The sorting ceremony also becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.

From Milgram's obedience experiment to the Stanford prison study, there's a long line

of psychological research that says situations are powerful and we take on qualities that

are expected of us.

Slytherins will become more cunning because that's what Slytherins are supposed to be.

Gryffindors will take more risks because that's part of Gryffindor history and is what's

encouraged within the house.

That's probably why Neville Longbottom transformed from a timid first year Gryffindor into a

brave leader of Dumbledore's Army in The Deathly Hallows.

Keeping students segregated by house also reduces creativity.

We know teams are most creative when people with different backgrounds come together in

a place where it's okay to disagree.

Grouping students into different houses based upon their qualities and strengths, and encouraging

them to stay segregated during classes, meals, and off hours, increases the chances that

these students will think the same way, suggest the same solutions, and struggle to understand

the perspectives of people who are different than themselves.

It also makes them vulnerable to groupthink, a dangerous type of conformity that leads

teams to make bad decisions.

Reading these stories again, 20 years after the release of the first book, the Houses

of Hogwarts reflect the worst of our society.

How we all seem to live in different online and offline bubbles where we only interact

with people who are just like us.

These's a simple way to fix this.

Use the Sorting Hat, have four houses, but have the hat make sure each house has students

that represent all of the qualities that make people successful.

That way every student can grow their talents, develop creative solutions to the problems

they face, and be a whole lot less nasty to each other.

But I recognize that might make for a bit more of a dull book.

Spider-Man Homecoming END CREDITS, Sequel 2019 - Duration: 14:23.

A spider-Man homecoming sequel is definitely happening one of the few things these days

That Kevin feige and amy pascal can agree on besides

I'm sure that they've done good with the first film in fact the first film is so good

But I wouldn't be surprised that they headed back to the negotiating table on a couple of points because obviously the push and pull

Works now some of you won't be saying oh grace. That's just a Moral magic

Well, if it's the marble Magic then why aren't any other MCU films?

so bold and aggressive

As Spider-Man homecoming although thor ragnarok and black pants there do seem to be equally edge of the envelope pushing

But I wouldn't I wouldn't count at sony so much

I think that amy pascal God bless her she's a controversial person, but then so is Kevin feige to some degree and Kathleen Kennedy

Can Amy pascal get to their level?

besides imperfect Kevin feige on live and live interviews all right, so anyway I

I think this went so well that I would be like okay

I mean, let's talk it out and also because this has gone so well

I think that as they they've now have a wonderful new Branch of the MCU and amy

Pascal threatens to attach one of Dead leaves to it and potentially rot it from the outside in I don't know if Marvel can afford

To let her go out there and create a sub spidey cinematic universe all on her own right they might be forced to

Negotiate with her. I would say she's not a kathleen

Kennedy I'd say she's more in Al James over on fifty Shades

Who has good ideas here and there, but also it needs to be watched like a hawk all right?

So we're going to talk about the upcoming Spider-Man homecoming sequel and so obviously there are spoilers ahead

You've been warned now Spider-Man homecoming has to end credits scenes one

That could maybe set up the sequel

It doesn't make any promises and quite frankly my vote would be no

I think there are other more interesting things to include in the sequel which I'm sure will be

Just as jam-packed as this first movie, and then there's the second end credits scene. Which is absolutely hilarious

But I don't think they actually even needed any end credits eat scenes

Which is kind of crazy hear me say because I'm such a strong supporter and credit scenes. I think they keep the conversation going

They get your audience thinking about the future, but as I said in my spoiler review

Spider-Man homecoming is basically easter egg the movie and there's so much hinted at throughout the film

That that already captures your attention for instance the very last scene where aunt May

Discovers that Peter parker is Spider-Man it was hilarious

it was just like a quick like a quick button just you know to end the movie on a last and an

Exciting note for the sequel and that means more scenes from recent tonight by the way hopefully

She doesn't spend them all nagging peter about how worried

She is that he's Spider-man and maybe he shouldn't be I hope she continues to be cool hot ant-man on that note

Maybe she could date Martin lee on a modern Spin on how aunt May

Introduced him to Peter's world in the comics right you might recall aunt may volunteered at food kitchen Which Martin lee

Supported so we'll get into Martin lee though aka, Mr.

Negative a little bit later on in the video brinstead varsity checks all the books it's an upcoming video game

It's great for plus first talk and credit scenes and the first one Michael

Mando get some lines to go along with a sweet new cat of a scorpion

And so obviously he's supposed to be the scorpion from the comics

but that makes you wonder is the new scorpion more a state of mind as tombs and the tinkerer are going to upgrade him or

Something more invasive than a tattoo planned

For poor Michael. Mando is like just not too safely to face alone

I don't know I like the realistic

take of the vulture

But I don't really know you can do with the scorpion the wooden seem repetitive of the vulture right the cattle the animals although

If you read Spider-Man comics I did like for a while

They had like the different signs of the zodiac that was pretty cool, and that reminds me of that a little bit

but anyway back to Spider-Man homecoming and

Credit scene. I think that the real point of this was to show that while tombs might be a vulture. He's no rat as

Mando Michael Mando asked him point-blank. Do you know Spider-Man's secret identity?

I heard you do and tooms was like hey man. If I knew will he be dead alright. He totally like fronted

But those tombs not such a bad guy it was all that. I'll kill you in the back of the car

Again putting on a show or is he saving Peter parker for himself they also established that tooms his family was there to see him

So it seems that liz could potentially return as well is she a chip off or she a feather off the old wing

That could be interesting although I did see any of those qualities and lives whatsoever in the movie

So it would have to be a really new turn for the character. She's like. I'm suddenly introduced I'm interested in uh in shot glass

But I don't think we need more vulture at least for now. Love them. Love Michael Keaton go fly off and do something

I don't think we need him so much in the sequel

I think there are much other more exciting directions to go in then of course the other end credits scene is a Super meta

Captain America PSa about patience like when you wait for an end credits scene and there is a one you know

That's about the upcoming movies. I thought that was fabulous and only Chris evans

Could be personable enough to make us not angry and having set through the whole credits for that. I thought it was great

it was like at the very end movies like how many more of these do I have to do and I was like oh if

There is any kind of marvel. God Kevin feige you have a lot more to do. I love it

And this is a great

Segue into the news that another avenger will join Peter parker for Spider-Man homecoming 2 will not be Ironman will it be cap

That seems like the obvious choice. I mean they're both from the New York City area right?

I loved that moment in Civil war and they're both like

Queens Brooklyn, I thought that was fabulous and

Also, they're both obstinately for the people

I also think that only cap could get Peter parker's decision not to join the

Avengers and to turn down an amazing spidey suit

I think he would be like I feel you and I not only feel you

But that means we're still like let's talk about it

Let's talk about tough decisions Peter, and how tough unpopular decisions basically right? I didn't know what great

I think that it would make

Peter Parker special to Captain America that he said no to tony he'd be like ah a guy after my own heart

They could joke about the pSA. It's about taking the shield. I think it would be great. They can go look for bullies

I also think by the way that Mj would so get along with Steve Rogers like two peas and an sJw Pod

Don't get them in a room

You're talking they'll never leave. I also think she would be so supportive of his relationship with bucky no matter. What it might be I?

Can't okay so anyway

We have to also remember the cap might not be cleared of his crimes by 2019 and he might even not still be alive

We'll see what happens in the finity war my life and uncap because of course I still have to check that box of cap storylines

Never mind the Kevin feige splintered them whatever. It's fine. Everything's going really well

Now they don't go with Captain America for one of those two reasons black widow has a lot of experience

unfortunately propping up other avengers movie ah

Although after ghost in the Shell' it's a little bit Scarlett Johansson's fault the war would certainly make life

Hilariously difficult for Peter parker or how about the other science bro although they've already teamed up the door ragnarok

Or if we want to set our sights really high oh, please good

We have a deadpool at least cameo that will be absolutely fabulous

I mean if two studios can get along why not three especially when they have insanely popular characters fit together?

Deadpool and spidey do have a very special relationship

Although careful not to crush too hard weighed the spidey is underage

I know some of you are like first bucky now

Den Poel what the heck you need to read some comics if you don't understand the deadpool spidey

Relationship alright for all of you who accused me of not doing it?

Alright, so that's the problem with comics

Oh, there's so many of them sometimes you miss certain lines, and so you don't see everything that's out there I

Think deadpool speaking of splintering. That's always been my problem

They splinter to cater to different audiences and so when you're trying to create something for everyone

It's problematic, but anyway speaking of Crushes MJ

Seems to be developing one pretty quickly on Peter parker as this hinted at at the end of Spider-Man homecoming as well

That's another kind of end credits scene when she's like what friends. Call me. I'm J. You're like Mary Jane

We just hit the jackpot tigers, and you'll see that that's the name of the school that's there the you know his

Academy there the tigers love it

But I just want to see I just want to make sure that in Spider-Man homecoming two

She doesn't get a makeover that turns her into zendaya. I think that would be

Really bad because I think the Edgy no-makeup Alicia keys look that

She's got going on is a refreshing leading lady for not just any movie, but for superhero movies in particular

So let's keep it that way

I would much rather have mary jane stay exactly the same way that she is and instill a sense of social awareness and responsibility

In Peter which this version of the characters doesn't quite have

Just yet right now. He's a sweet go-getter with a big heart, but he ain't woke

Then it's impossible for us to ignore the miles morales hint that Donald Glover's Aaron Davis drops about his nephew

living in the neighborhood

He even said he had ice cream in the trunk and of course in the very first issue of the Miles Morales origin story

He brought him an ice pop, and that's how you know miles came over for ice pops

And that's how I ended up getting bitten by a spider that

Aaron Davis Had accidentally stolen fabulous if you have written the miles morales origin story, you should read it

It's really good, but they're making an animated Miles morales movie in 2018 next year

Which will presumably be that origin story check out my video focusing on that. There's a link down below in the video description

And miles has even been teased in the new sony video game that was fabulous teaser. He looked so cool

So why can't he then also show up and Spider-Man homecoming 2 as a live-action character?

I mean Tom

Holland and Shameik Moore who voices myles in the animated upcoming movie are just a year apart in age I mean come on

I would feel bad for sony if they did not do this, and I can't imagine that Marvel wouldn't do it although

Maybe we should reverse that because the McU has been slow in just one area and that's diversification

So maybe sony would be the one to push for it

And if amy pascal gets her way

Another 2018 sony spidey character could show up just again for a cameo Tom Hardy's venom

I would actually really like that, and I mean to be honest Kevin feige

I'm sure of this will keep these characters out of his movies

But is he really going to fight so hard to keep them out of her movies right out of the sony movies right I mean

I

Think it's just going to get too awkward. I don't see a way around it to be perfectly honest with you

Then as for villains because I think it looks like Venom's Tom hardy is going to be an anti

As for villains and keeping with Spider-Man homecomings diversity which needs to be plus we talked about that in my spoiler review

they kind of cheated a little bit, but if we can bring in miles morales right and then

Mr.. Negative as the villain oh that would really be

Fantastic he's visually cool and he brings an upscale villian vibe to the movies that the osbournes

Used to bring it is way too early by the way for the osbournes to come back if they should ever come back

And since spidey insists on keeping his head low for now

Maybe he could run into some defenders who he's always shared villains with but then again. I think that

Sony has so many toys already why risk bringing the spidey a little too?

Low to the ground you know what I'm saying so as you can see spidey has plenty to work with in his own mythology

Imagine this for Spider-Man homecoming -

Spidey going to protests with MJ. Running into Mr.. Lee and Mr.

Negative as they have good and bad effects on the neighborhood get it yin yang positive negative. I love it

Aunt May's helping him so it so is ned, but aunt mae also. Maybe has a relationship with Mr.

Mr.. Lee Right Martin Lee Mr.

Negative and it also training from Captain America in the same kind of reduced role that Tony stark had in the first spider-Man homecoming

See and you have to fit miles in there on top of all that. It's too crowded. We don't need tombs

We don't even really need scorpion as much as I like Michael. Mando if you haven't seen one better

Call Saul you're missing out that show just in general is fantastic

Oh yeah, and we need a deadpool cameo make it happen Kevin feige the audience Goodwill would be through the roof

It would just really be fabulous

I wonder by the way if Spider-man could be the webbing this finally brings all these marvel characters back together that has spread out across

All these studios so far. It's working

Amazingly well I really think maybe I might I might consider going for it

And I know that some of you might be pointing out right now. Hey, you know what's in it for Disney

They don't get the box office from these movies. Well, they can use the characters in their theme parks. They

Can use them in cameos in their films you know plussing them they get the merchandising? Uh you know

Situation that's a ton of money

I mean Disney is an L haier there are many many corners of the Disney Empire that this could benefit

and I just think it's

To have fans kind of going in one direction and all of it being positive instead of a splinter, just speaking of splintering again

The splintered discussion of what works, what doesn't work?

Oh, if only let's stop the oh if only discussions and have that I can't wait discussions

I just think that would benefit everybody and it would also really benefit the comics if they would stop being promotional pamphlets ah

always being mindful of what you can be grateful for. As weird as it may sound

being grateful can truly be life-changing for you. When we harness

this superpower and really put it into youth we can bring so much more good

into our lives. That good is probably there already it's probably hanging in

the corner saying "hey, good stuff over here" and when we start to become more

aware of what we're grateful for all of that good stuff really begins to shine

Somewhere in Romania, in a fairytale landscape,

a priest and a handful of people built an entire village from the green grass up!

"Hi!" It is a wonderful little village,

in which many people with whom life hasn't been too generous reside.

The first time I came here was in 2009

I am an actress and I was able to do a few theatre workshops

and a little show with these kids.

It was love at first sight!

I cannot forget their smiles... "Gimme a candy!"

and so every single time I miss this place, I come back! "Thanks! Eat it!"

I do not come here as often as I wish I could...

nevertheless, this place seems to become more and more beautiful every single time I return!

"My molar hurts!" "oh, his molar hurts..."

"Stay still! ok? Good"

I noticed new buildings,

more kids roaming around without a care in the world...

"Lunch is ready!"

I will have to wait until after lunch...

so I will show you a few things...

There are many mothers who found a shelter here where they can raise their children...

There are babies that can't wait to see the light of day ...

and infants who quietly sleep next to their mother's bosom.

There are kids that hesitate to let go of their mothers' skirts

and kids eager to learn about everything around them!

The children came from kindergarten ...

There are also children in primary school, high-school and college...

Many of the kids that finished school found jobs in the city; others do work around here ...

There are over 30 girls that were kicked out of state orphanages when they turned 18.

They had the opportunity of finding sanctuary here. This first started happening back in 1995…

Some have managed to start a family...

some take care of the children here...

and some are working on animal farm...

Other girls do religious paintings on glass, or do sculptures...

And since a family isn't complete without grandparents,

The needs of some many assisted people are great and hard to meet...

For me this is a miraculous place!

A tiny village with only 70 modest families, even poor in some eyes...

but this is a place where people never say NO! Not even when a priest comes late at night

with a baby that had been abandoned by his natural parents.

25 children have found a family this way...

They were raised with the other children,

they played together, went to the same school...

I've asked a mother if she was scared of such a responsibility

and she gave me a simple answer, one that moved me!

She told me that where in three mouths can be fed, there is always food left for a fourth one...

And she was right!... Pro Vita has helped them with whatever they needed

and now children that nobody wanted

have become the young women and men that you see now,

ready to face life on their own!

All of this was possible thanks to people that believed in the future of these children

and that felt the need to do something real, which was to contribute with whatever they could!

Some by volunteering, some by donating money, construction materials,

firewood, food, clothes, toys and anything necessary in life.

The State gave no support...

The only good part is that nowadays the State does pay the children the allowance that every child in Romania is owed.

There are a few parishes both in Romania and foreign that help,

a few humanitarian organisations and some firms.

There is the 2% profit tax that some people choose to redirect here…

But apparently the biggest help comes from ordinary people

that bring either a bag potatoes, a car filled with cabbage… or spare a bit of their salaries.

They are building a professional school here, with the afferent workshops, of course.

It is an emergency because the kids will grow up and will need to find work places.

There are many who have already found jobs in the city,

They have a sheepfold and a goat pen, cows that graze peacefully on the surrounding hills…

There are mothers that knit, that make booties, scarves, hats and various other handcrafts.

Somebody here told me that the proof of a well-done job is the future independence of that child.

If he manages to start a family and provide for it, it means that the efforts were not in vain!

Of course, the organisation will help with whatever is needed..

Father Nicolae has tried very hard to buy land and build as much as possible.

If, let's say for exaple, a boy wants to build his own house,

his financial contribution will be doubled by the organisation.

It is the right way of motivating him to think about his own future, to finish school and start working.

When it comes to girls, I have found that all the ones that got married got a dowry,

in the form of furniture, appliances, or whatever else they needed in their new home.

I feel joy in my heart!

I am happy I could do something for them.
