I want to ask you to dream a while, first I want to ask you to dream about the pastů
Do you still remember when we were toddlers and start to learn how to stand up and to walků
Then the first we were taken by parents to a park with bare foot and the first time we touch the grassů
It felt ticklish, then when you learn how to walk and fallů
Then you were trying to hold on something which grass is what you only haveů
Then you plugged the grass and put it into your mouthů
And by the time you chew it, you realized that you didnĺt like vegetables.
(Giggles) and from that moment, we found (something) we learned.
I remember when I was a kid, I love to play with sand, when my parents built a new house, they are both here Mr. Hendro and Mrs. Tutiů
They are architects, so they build their own houseů
And there was pile of sand, as my parents are architects, so it was a never ending house building, there were always some renovationsů
The pile of sand became my playground.
Every day I came there, I explored and think of what am I going to play today.
And it became my world of imagination, and I was inspired by a movie called ôChipsö, anyone know ôChipsö?
Or Smokey and the Bear?
(giggles) the story was about car racing and it splashed the camera and ôwow it was so coolö
Back then, it was a fascinating visual effect, and then I was thinking on how to duplicate it.
So I used the pile of sand as the scene, then I took my car toys, then I was trying to shoot (giggles)
Then I made the car racing which splashed and was trying to duplicate the visual effect but I havenĺt got any camera so then I put the sand down to my right eyeů
And from that moment I found that an eye and sand are not destined together.
That day I found, that day I learned.
So now I want to take you to dream the future.
Imagine that the future is a blank page for children, and as we called children nowadays as digital nativesů
I think I am a digital dinosaur (giggles)ů
What digital natives see in the next 10 20 years?
From old era to this era, there are jobs that have been extinctů
When I was in high school, there was an extracurricular called typing group, I wonder if it still exists nowadays (giggles)ů
There is no more typing job, and there are also people work at the highway gate that have been replaced by machineů
And (I wonder) what next?
There was a research in December from McKenzie Global Institute; they found that in 2030 that there are 800 million of jobs will be replaced by automatics (system) and artificial intelligence.
It is around 60% of work field.
It means that the existing workers need to find new jobs.
Doesnĺt mean that we will be fired by a robot, but we need to change.
And the problem is things that we learned from university majors, is it for jobs in 2030 or todays job?
Itĺs todayĺs job.
And then there is Professor (mention name), a futurology, who stated that in 2030, collective artificial intelligence is the same as human intelligence.
So, we have to be prepared to work with robots or prepare ourselves to be stronger than robots.
In 2050 there will be a technology where there is singularityů
Where there is point of no return, where we maybe have imbedded technology into our brainů
Where we no longer use robots at work, but we interact and collaborate with them insteadů
Which I cannot imagine until now, even when it was in a documentary sci-->fi movieů
In order to prepare our children, live in that era, here is the questionů
Have we done it well?
How do we prepare digital natives to live in the world of such digital technology?
What should we do? Is our education (system) now, preparing them for that?
That is the big question.
With all the changes that will happen, no one knows what is going to happenů
So, itĺs all a gamble, if I may say.
If I say that it will happen like this, means that I am an arrogant, am I from the future?
While my face looks like from the past (joke)ů
Is it a possibility that what we should provide to them is freedom to explore their world?
I searched online; I learned a lot from TED, who does watch TED on youtube which is very insightful.
Just like Sir Ken Robinson who taught about education revolutionů
Which consists of 4C that is needed for education in 21st century, and there areů
First is critical thinking, how we able to take information, digest it and make decisions from it. the thing is now itĺs not about searching for information, it is about how massive the information is and we donĺt know which one is truth and hoax.
There are news about A, B, C, D, E and how we summarize it, isnĺt that right?
That is the knowledge that we have to be smarter at
Next is collaboration, so it is not about how I am more knowledgeable than others, but it is about local wisdom collaboration.
So donĺt come up with colonialism point of view.
Then about Communication, it is not only about public speaking, but also communication with for example, WhatsApp termsů
This often occurs miscommunication which is written language and we are still learning how communicate well in written.
And the purpose of it is if it communicated well, then it will lead to a new creativity and innovation, and also lead to a new civilizationů
Or maybe, are you also familiar with Mr. Sugatra Mitra, who initiated the concept of Self Organized Learning Environment.
Some people here are nodding, which means you are familiar (with him)
And that is very interesting where the children can learn extraordinarily when they are in chaotic controlled situationů
Control chaos where the children can learn how to find (things) spontaneously.
So, it is not based on a curriculum, they are stimulated with a big question instead which the teacher itself cannot answer.
How do they find their learning process? They find it themselves. What an amazing story.
Or maybe you have heard of Professor (Name) from MITů
A genetic specialist who taught about 4 freedoms of play saying thatů
Playing is learning. Not playing while learning, and it also done by entrepreneurs, innovators, regular workers, how we become a workaholiců
That is because we play at worků
And then from technology world, we also know about design thinking, anyone familiar with it?
For example, Inomator start up, and when you see the first step which starts with empathyů
It doesnĺt start with innovation and technology instead, but with the design thinking we learn about humans.
How all of these are combined and what is going to happen? In Clevio we find what is called Clevio learning method where we teach children how to do coding games in themes of mini start-->up.
It is to establish 21st centuryĺs strengths
They begin to learn with the end in their own mind, then we ask them promise that what they are doing is for a good cause.
Then we asked them to collaborate in a start-->up (simulation) as designers, programmers and managers to create a solution from the big questionů
Example of the big question could be like ôhow to make your friends addicted to Math?ö so it is not a horror (matter) anymoreů
Or how can we save your fatherĺs life from cigarettes?
From those questions, they do their own research, they are googling with all the answers provided there, but the thing is how they select the (information) and how to make decisionsů
And from there, we stimulate them to create a product that they can sell, exhibit, do presentation at shopping centre, get bargained by shoppers, bought by shoppersů
And we give stickers to every shoppers that they can stick it to their favourite laptopů
Laptop with the most stickers on it is the winner.
They are pushed to collaborate, to sell, to be ignoredů
In this chaotic situation, we hope that they learn how to live, how to be a (real) human beingů
And we stimulate our class to diversification where there are some special needs students, and this is one of our students with ADD (attention division disorder)ů
And he motivates and inspires his friends.
And eventually they created game called Brain Zen to help children with ADD to learn how to focusů
Or this is also one of the children with autism who inspires his fellow team to create a game to teach math for children with autism.
So, when other people see it as weakness, (our students) can see it as strengths because they have more empathy with their target market.
Future is a blank page, so we can give our children an opportunity to write their civilization in a later eraů
Give them freedom to learn, to select what to write in their later civilizationů
And we hope that by us giving them freedom to learn, they can learn freely, free to learn. Thank you.
