- In second type, multiple quantities are given and you will be asked to find the similarity

in their dimensions - In third type, you will be given the dependencies

of physical quantities and asked to write the formula

- Under error analysis, percentage error propagation is frequently asked.

Lets see one sample question asked in previous NEET exam for all these question types. Lets

begin with the first type which was asked in AIPMT 2007.

We are asked to write the dimensional formulae of resistance.

- We know that Voltage equals to Resistance x current. So resistance = voltage/current

- For voltage we need to again deduce to basic quantity. voltage = work done/charge,

lets again deduce work done, it is nothing but force x distance where force is again

mass x acceleration, when we substitute dimensions for these, we get ML²T⁻²

-charge is current x time, by substituting these values we get dimension of Resistance

as ML²T⁻³I⁻²

To answer this type of question, you need to know all formulas in your physics class

11 and class 12 ncert book. Formulas are the basic thing you need to master to score high

marks in physics section of the NEET examination. You can get help of revision tools such as

flashcards available in the NEETLab practice android app to quickly memorize all formulas.

Lets move to the next NEET question type under dimensional analysis. In this type, you will

be given many physical quantities. you need to identify physical quantities which have

same dimensions In this question which was asked in AIPMT2008,

you are asked to find which of these 5 quantities have same dimensions.

- energy density is energy per volume, substituing the dimensions, you get ML⁻¹T⁻²

- refractive index and dielectric constant have no dimensions

- dimension of youngs modulus is ML⁻¹T⁻² - as energy density and youngs modulus have

same dimension, c is the correct answer. - you need not find dimension for magnetic

field but it is given here for your reference. Attempt these type of questions towards the

end of the exam. Because these questions typically consume lot of time.

The next question type is to derive relationship of quantities. In this type, Left hand side

and quantities of right hand side will be given, you need to find the powers of each

quantity on the right hand side. In the given question asked in AIPMT2015 Rescheduled,

critical velocity depends on coefficient of viscosity, density of liquid, radius of the

tube. Find the relationship

Lets solve this problem now, -Apply dimensions we get LT⁻¹ for velocity,

ML⁻¹T⁻¹ for coeff of viscosity, ML⁻³ for density and L for radius of tube

-equate the powers on both sides we get x + y =0 which implies x=-y.now lets find y

-equating y we get 1+y = 0 so y=-1 , substituing y in above equation we get x=1

-equating z we get -x - 3y + z = 1, substituing values of x and y we get z=-1. The relationship

is critical velocity is equal to coeff of viscosity by density x radius of tube

The final NEET question pattern type under units and measurements topic is percentage

error propagation. In this type, you will be given formula and error percentage of each

quantity. you need to find the total error percentage.

In the given question asked in NEET2013, Quantity P is expressed as a to the power ³ b to the

power ² divided by c x d. % error for a,b,c,d are given.

-Multiply the error percentage of a by 3 as it is raised to power of three, for b multiply

it by 2 as it is raised to the power of two, for c and d, simply add their percentage.

- Note that irrespective of whether the quantity is on the numerator or denominator we need

to add. When we multiply, we get 14% which is the answer.
