The World Track and Field Championships in London are less than a month away.
But some of Canada's biggest stars still needed to qualify at the National
Championships, and that's what's kicking off our Monday Moments.
Andre De Grasse has said many times that he wants to beat Usain Bolt before Bolt retires.
Now, he'll get his chance.
De Grasse won his 3rd straight 100 metre national title on Friday, and the 200 metre race Sunday.
Crystal Emmanual also won "Double Gold" in the 100 and 200 to book her ticket to the
Worlds.
Some other familiar names will be on that plane to London.
Melissa Bishop won the 800 metre race by more than 3 seconds for her fourth national championship.
And pole-vaulter Shawn Barber had to battle the elements, but the rain didn't stop the
reigning World Champion from clearing 5.40 metres to win the event.
Let's shift from huge favourites, to massive underdogs.
After stunning the Americans in the semi-final of the under-19 World Cup, Canada finished
the job by beating Italy in the gold medal match.
It's the country's first ever World basketball title.
And some of the biggest names in the sport ,past and present, took notice
Steve Nash, Andrew Wiggins, Kia Nurse all jumped on twitter to recognize the historic
win.
Speaking of historic medals, in Men's Volleyball, Canada dropped the first set to the Americans,
but rallied to win bronze at the FIVB World League Final . It's Canada's first World
league title ever and a pretty big jump from their 13th place finish last year!
Let's stick with volleyball, but head to the beach.
Fresh off their gold medal last week, Sarah Pavan and Melissa Humana-Paredes were back
on the podium, this time winning bronze at the FIVB beach volleyball World Tour event
in Switzerland.
and at a rowing World Cup event in Switzerland, Carling Zeeman won a silver in the women's
single sculls, and the Canadian team also won bronze in the women's four final.
And don't forget guys the Calgary Stampede is in full swing, to see all of that action,
just jump on cbcsports.ca we're streaming it each and every day.
