"The start to this year has been very different compared with other years.
Other years involved a type of slavery as regards diet, watching my weight, regulating rest time
and training in the freezing cold. This year has been much more relaxed."

It's the first season that we won't be seeing Alberto Contador heading the peloton in the big cycling races.
The man from Madrid has finally got off his bike after winning among many races,
two Tours de France, two Giros de Italia and three Vueltas a España.
"The truth is I'm very pleased. I've won all the races I wanted to win"
"The best thing about my career? To have been able to enjoy my passion for cycling. It's true it was a passion
that came late as I only started when I was 15. But once I got going on the bike the passion developed.

To be a champion, to get up when you fall, to fight right to the end, these are
the values Contador shares with his chosen team in LaLiga Santander.
"One of the few things when I was travelling abroad that linked me with Spain and helped me
to disconnect a little, was football. My father has always been a Madrid fan.
I remember when I was young how he used to go to watch football at the bar. Later, you start going out
with friends and you let it go a bit but I'm still a keen fan of los blancos."
Alberto Contador has had the chance to show his passion for the club in Santiago Bernabeu itself.
"Absolutely brilliant. I really enjoyed it. I was moved because the Bernabeu is an incredible ground.
I'd only been there once before when we were doing a report, I felt very emotional."
The man from Madrid has been the number one in cycling for quite a
few years and can identify with two players in LaLiga. Contador gives us the lowdown.
"I think that everyone has their own style. Technically, for me Messi is number one.
On the other hand, I have a lot of admiration for Ronaldo because he's a force of nature in terms of strength,
hard work and professionalism. I admire both players a lot and I think both of them are brilliant in their own way."
Right now, the fight for the league title is looking tough for Real Madrid but Alberto Contador
isn't throwing in the towel. Lessons learnt from cycling can also be applied to football.
"In cycling we always say that you haven't won anything until you've crossed the finishing line.
I've always believed that where there's a will there's a way."
