It's being rather uncomfortable! What do you think Jordan Peterson might have
said to get this reaction? I'm just trying to work that out I mean ha gotcha
Jordan Burt Peterson you've probably heard his name floating
around the news he's a Toronto professor and he's been cast into the limelight
for his views is very outspoken opinions on cultural events and things going on
in public and in this most recent interview with a gal named Kathy Newman
she is a very aggressive accomplished skilled interviewer who really wanted to
make him look bad to make herself look good and to make him look like he
doesn't know what he's talking about have you ever encountered someone who's
trying to make you look bad maybe in the workplace maybe just out in public it
happens all the time and that's all I want to show you this video so we can
break down exactly what he did to stop her in her tracks and make him look
strong and solid and not say something that he shouldn't have said so I'm gonna
show you the first part of this clip and then I'm gonna pause it and I want you
to think about what you think would be a proper response then we're gonna watch
the video see his actual response and then most importantly we're gonna break
down technically what he did so you can
understand it and then more importantly you can use it in your life to come out
on top when someone is trying to put you down let's watch the video you've got in
trouble for refusing to call trans men and women by their preferred personal
pronouns you cited freedom of speech in that why should your right to freedom of
speech Trump a trans person's right not to be
and you better watch out when answering that question partner because that is
loaded to the gills you got to be sure not to offend anybody so look at the
structure that question if it was asked why are your rights of free speech more
important than someone's right to not be offended it would still be a bit loaded
but the fact that she threw in a specific class of trans people now it's
even more of a hot-button issue and he knew that so you see when he starts to
answer you can see he gives one line and then he gets a better answer and jumps
to that conversational thread but before we watch that how would you answer that
why are your rights for free speech more important than a trans person trans
person refers to a transgender person to their rights of not being offended what
do you say you have a good idea all right let's jump in and see what Jordan
said because in order to be able to think you have to risk being offensive I
mean look at the conversation we're having right now you know like you're
certainly willing to risk offending me in the pursuit of truth why should you
have the right to do that it's being rather uncomfortable well I'm
I'm very glad I put you well I'm you get my point as like you're you're doing
what you should do which is digging a bit to see what the hell's going on and
that is what you should do but you're exercising your freedom of speech to
certainly risk offending me and that's fine I think more power to as far as I'm
concerned so you haven't sat there and I'm just
right I've just trying to work that out I mean ha gotcha you have caught me you
have caught me I'm trying to what so basically she just got caught like if
she was saying you know why should you be able to smoke marijuana in public
with the chance of blowing the smoke on young children's faces while she's
smoking a cigar sighs tie stick puffing it on top of a bunch of baby strollers
she got caught doing the exact same thing that she's calling him out for and
that's not gonna happen very often but I do want to break down technically two
things that you can learn from this but before we do if you're interested in
getting your social skill up a higher level this guy Jordan Peterson he's
ninja level social skills he's quick on his feet he knows how to break things
down I'd invite you to grab my social invincibility checklist up here in the
right corner I'm not even to tell you what's on it
but it's gonna get you to a nice advanced level of social skill very
quickly and you're gonna be able to get it for free so what he did when he
addressed this is first of all you can see his answer was well just to be able
to think you have to risk being offensive so he was going on a totally
different tangent and then he realized he had an even better answer wait is she
really doing exactly the thing that she's questioning me about so what I
would encourage you to do when someone puts you on the spot
his first step back don't react emotionally don't get worked up when
people are you know coming at you they're pointing fingers why should you
be able to do this what's one way he could have answered that if he wouldn't
have had such a brilliant answer we could say listen we can't control what
people are offended by free speech is something that's designated to us by the
Constitution being being offended is not something we're protected against cuz we
don't know what anyone's be protected what can be offended about that would
have been a financier but this one was so much better because
it was the exact thing that she was calling him out for now what else did
you notice in that video right when he had that a humdinger of an answer she
tries to immediately change the subject by bringing up something else but you
could tell the wind was so taken out of her sails she tried a few times to talk
over him but she had no gusto she was wiping her hands on a side of her of her
skirt indicating they were sweaty a definite stress response she anything
you do but a lot of times when you do have a really good answer that makes
someone else look bad they're gonna immediately try to diffuse it because
what would have been the best case scenario for her well she would have
been able to say she would say yeah but have you ever thought about this in this
and then it would have gone right on to something else so what did he do all he
did is stopped her and repeated exactly what he had said before in a little bit
of a more flowery sentence because what this does is it maintains the frame and
it forces her to address that so he said at once she was trying to gloss over and
go to something else slow sit down says it again and that really
forces the other person to address it there's really no way at that point she
could just dance on to something else now let me ask you do you know the one
word that you can say that immediately exudes high value he could have used it
in this interview I'm not sure if he did I didn't watch the whole thing but it's
something that you can pull out of your back pocket at any time that you feel
like someone else maybe is a little bit higher than you in the interaction
equilibrium basically when someone thinks they're cooler than you or have
higher social status than you there's one word you can say that will help
boost you in that and if you haven't seen this video I daggered you click
right here to watch it I'm gonna walk you to that video also if you haven't
