Hello fellow travelers!
Let's see if you figure out where we are, just if you see what we have behind us…
It's ok, we are in Seville!
This trip is really specific: we called it taverning &running!
Running because Jose is going to run the Sevilla half marathon
and taberning is the thing that I'm going to do… running… not at all…
Jesús is our ambassador in Seville.
He knows a lot of cool places for foodies like us!
Mateos Gago is the typical street for eating tapas.
An essential tapa is the "montadito de pringá".
It has cooked meat like a paté, and they put it into the sandwich.
Next essential tapa: "El Serranito":
It has pork meat, iberian ham, pepper and tomato.
If you are a vegetarian, look how nice the tapa of spinachs with cheese is.
We are eating croquettes at Bodeguita Romero.
These are special: Oxtail croquette!
What is the tapa that you liked the most? Because we have tried a lot!
Pringá.
The mussels one!
Oxtail croquette.
The Pavía tapa.
What is this?
Cod in batter.
And was it nice?
Really good!
We enjoyed having breakfast in El 3 De Oro.
Churros, porras, molletes are extraordinary… and overall with a very good price.
We are in the Santa Cruz quarter.
It is the oldest neighborhood in Sevilla. In the past it was the Jewish quarter.
They said it was the second most important in the península.
You can see its entangled streets, its white houses…
there are a lot of spectacular small palaces with patios with flowers, jasmine trees..
Besides this is a neighborhood with a lot of art.
The stories of Carmen and El Don Juan were set here.
Santa Cruz quarter is full of legends. One of them is the one of the Susona.
Susona was the daughter of a rich Jewish man. She had a Christian lover.
She found out that Jews were going to ambush the Christians,
and she snitched to her boyfriend.
So, the Christians came and killed Susona's family.
Filled with remorse, she asked that, when she died,
they cut off her head and put it in this square, as proof of the betrayal to her family.
Esparto curtains are very typical here.
Esparto is a perfect insulation both for heat and cold.
You will be tempted to take the oranges that are in the trees. There are a lot of them!
But, be careful, they are bitter! People from Seville use them to make jam.
You have muscatel wine perfumed with orange!
Yes, it's perfumed with the skin of our bitter oranges.
That's why this wine is not as sweet as regular muscatel.
Every time I come to Seville, I am surprise about this motto: "NO8DO"…
What does it mean?
I'm glad you ask me this question…
We have been so natural…
What you are not aware of is that we have 6 people looking at us…
This motto symbolizes NO + a skein + DO, "NO-MADEJA-NO".
This is an acronym that represents the loyalty of Seville to King Alfonso X, "The Wise".
He had a war against his son, King Sancho.
It means that "this city didn't abandon me" or "this city is loyal to me".
Sevillian thermometers indicate whatever…
This one behind us says "30 degrees"…
ok, it's a nice day today, but no more than 20 degrees…
so, when they say Sevilla has 50 degrees in summer…
I want to see you in summer!
Ok, this is broken but… I have experienced 50 degrees…
We are in the famous Maria Luisa Park.
It was opened in 1914 as the first urban park of Sevilla.
Inside the park there is España Square.
It was built on the occasion of the Universal Exposition of 1929.
It has been the scene of famous films like Lawrence of Arabia and Star Wars and the Attack of the Clones.
As runners need a big intake of carbohidrates, we are going to have lunch in Otaola.
This place specializes in rice.
It's in a food market, with a very beautiful name: "El Mercado del Porvenir".
We are about to start the race of the Seville Half Marathon.
The only drawback that taverning & running has is that we have to get up early on Sunday to cheer our runners…
9:15AM…
Well, let's go for it!
Who said fear?
The stressing life of the supporters!
1:31:42! Great race!
Champions!
It's a very flat race!
It's especially recommended if you want to beat your PR!
Very cool! You run along the city center, you can enjoy the city…
Here, in the Alfonso XIII hotel we finish this short trip.
We hope you liked it. If so, share it with your friends.
We provide a lot of information about this trip in the description box.
See you on our next trip!
Bye!
