How to Choose Marine Binoculars | BoatUS - Duration: 3:32.

[WAVE SOUNDS] Binoculars are an incredibly important tool to have aboard your boat.

Hi.

I'm Lenny Rudow, BoatUS Magazine's Fishing Editor, and today we're going to look at some

different binoculars and try and find out just what features and facts you should bear

in mind when you're choosing a new pair.

First off, a couple important features.

All marine binoculars should be filled with an inner gas--nitrogen, argon, something like

that--so that they don't fog up inside when they go through a very drastic temperature

change, which can just be walking from the cabin to out on deck.

It's very important.

Secondly, obviously since we're talking about marine binoculars, they need to be waterproof.

There are two numbers you need to be aware of that go a long way in helping you understand

a pair of binoculars.

This right here is 7 by 50.

The 7 stands for how many times the binoculars magnify.

The 50 stands for the objective lens diameter, and this tells you basically how large the

lenses are.

Larger is generally thought of as better because it lets in more light.

Standard marine binoculars like these are commonly 7 by somewhere between 30 to 50.

Looking through these 7 by 50s, this is about what I see when I look at that sailfish over

there on the wall.

Now, here's why it's important to stay with marine binoculars.

This pair of binoculars right here is not marine.

These are just regular binoculars.

These are 10 times magnification, so they're even stronger than this pair, right?

But they're 10 by 20s.

When I hold these up and look through them, there is so much motion that on a boat, it'd

be hopeless to ever try and focus in on anything.

Now, binoculars like these, you can get a couple, few hundred dollars.

If you can spend a little bit more, you can get a pair with gyroscopic stabilization.

Now these cost about a thousand dollars, but the gyroscopic stabilization allows you to

use a much stronger magnification.

These here are 14 times, and that gyroscopic ability takes the motion out of being on the

boat.

You can even tell the difference with your hand jitters standing here like this.

For instance, if I look at that sailfish again, this is what it looks like at 14 times magnification.

And you can see there's some movement there.

But when I hit the gyroscope, [WHIRRING] wow!

That's pretty intense.

The down side to the gyrobinocs, plain and simple, is cost.

Now, there are a couple other considerations to keep in mind.

Some people like binoculars that have compasses built in, that can be helpful.

Some have range finders.

And don't forget to consider weight.

Really heavy binoculars do get tiring after hours and hours on the boat.

There are a few other details you may want to research depending on how in-depth you

want to get as you're looking at your binoculars.

Things like, pupil diameter, different lens coatings.

But we've covered the important points here.

Which binoculars are right for you?

Well, that's a decision that only you can make.

massive chopping action so Carnotaurus there is three others you could buy

app before they even come out how cool is that okay let's go ahead and free

this guy from the package like I said all you do is cut the strings you take

him out and your package is perfectly intact I like it because you could

actually put this back some of the earlier ones I showed you once you put

the tail on the dinosaur the dinosaur back in the

package which is really disappointing but once again first thing we're gonna

do is check out the action I love that action feature you can just slam his

head up and down like that but then you could also go nice and slow almost like

he's walking or something but like I said you can just have

okay cool so this style stand in all different modes - we will check out the

different features of him in a moment go one minute okay

so we're gonna start here at the head as you can see with the head I mean they

did superb detail on this I got both of the expensive Jurassic Park ones and

even those ones don't look as nice as this if you open this guy's mouth I mean

they did a great skull sculpt on the tongue and coloring there is no run off

I mean he's got tiny little eyes yeah I mean it's like a black that almost looks

like he's alive and then you could see all his teeth are like individual and

here are Carnotaurus doesn't have the big huge like t-rex type teeth and then

movement wise you could see here that his head moves independent of his neck

that's where you get the cool movement and down here almost like on a

ball-joint type system so even if you don't have the button stopped working

you can still push this guy's head forward and get that cool chomping

action tell me how realistic that is you could make some so cool battle videos

with this guy love this guy

like it's challenging somebody okay anyways let's go ahead and take a look

at the rest of this guy if you look at the back of it if you look at the back

of this guy the action button right here is almost hidden okay so that's cool

that move the action button is almost hidden here really cool coloring you got

like all kinds of spikes and stuff on his back but if you look at him if you

look at him standing up this guy just needs his feet adjust the feet move in

and out so you could move him don't worry we're not getting drastic park

action here Hasbro action where they all fall down so you got a tiny spindly

little arms which are accurate for the Carnotaurus with a walk

it's like tiny little plate arms just like you can't just see them like

flapping those things like a seal

sorry guys Bobby does those arms just cracked me up and like I said before I

love how they did the legs look at this guy's legs they go in and out as well as

forward so that's what gives you really smooth movement what it also lets you

pose him in so many different ways that he doesn't fall over as you can see here

look at the legs how they move in and out there which gives you 360 degree

super smooth movement almost like it's on a ball-bearing it's so really cool

movement there I love how they did that with the legs ah the coloring is superb

the texture the detail the striations on the muscle and everything they went

ahead and painted toenails really nice dark great color and then going down to

the tail the tail moves up and down and it will also turn 360 degrees so you

could use the tail to help support him but he doesn't does not need it I mean

these are not the drastic park toys from Hasbro where they fall down all the time

so really great detail continuing on down the tail there and then if you look

at this guy from the bottom this is where scan code is I take a picture of

that in a moment for you guys look at this guy in the bottom I love the

coloring he's got like a white cream coloring on the bottom of him I mean

they didn't even skimp with the coloring on the bottom and you have a picture of

a dinosaur here so that would be like the Jurassic world logo there

and then looking at him from the other side same great movement on the legs

again the ball bearing type movement here so that is awesome I mean I can't

say it enough about that and the spindly little arms from this side too

and then standing wise same as the other ones you could stand this guy in a lot

of different positions that is like normal mode you could stand them up you

just have to push like his legs slick in and out to adjust him let's see he's

standing all the way up there look at that his tail is not touching so they

will stand all the way off without using their tails for support so again the

normal position you could start bringing him down you don't have to go to the

locked-in positions I mean you could go you could stop in any position you could

have them all the way down bet you look at that nothing is touching this guy is

balancing himself like that without touching I mean you would think you

would need his head to hold him up enough I mean you don't need his head to

hold him up saw this guy is totally awesome so let's go ahead and scan his

Yap besides that you do have the super

colossal Tyrannosaurus Rex back there and the Jurassic Park fence that's a big

fence but when you put them in there I mean it makes it look super tiny

so we're gonna go ahead and start the app up which shows you the gates of

Jurassic world and gives you cool sound and here we are I just go ahead and

click the Scan button and scan his code in so let's see if it will pick up the

Carnotaurus means meat-eating bull our horns aren't weapons they're they help

her identify others okay so once again let's go ahead polka

a look at this guy I mean he's he is a joke compared to this Carnotaurus I mean

his Carnotaurus will be like

although this guy does have competition from Kenner this is the Bonebreaker

Carnotaurus by Kenner odds JP 29 I love this guy because his crazy feature is

when you stand him up this guy will open his mouth of crazy a

mouth it's almost like he unhinged it from his

jaws so that guy is awesome he's got a big wound here like I said he is JP 26

so if you ask me between the two I mean I would rather have the Kenner one

because it's still better quality it's better ah it just looks fun army with

that crazy opening mouth look at that I mean okay Mattel's is awesome but ah the

thing is the Kenner one you're gonna pay over a hundred bucks on eBay and this

Mattel one you're gonna pay I believe fifteen bucks when it comes off so huge

difference but these two battled each other

I believe that Kenner one would win just simply because he could imagine job look

at that guy and then we have the 1993 Kenner a demon

Carnotaurus whose gut is awesome too but you know this guy is all rubber even his

feet are like rubber so he has a really hard time standing I don't know if those

like that from the beginning so I mean points off for that but if you

want detail I mean this guy's got detail I mean check take a look at this guy

he's got awesome individual teeth huge eyes mouth opens way up arms move

entire rubber body really cool looking out of the tube once again I would

probably pick the Kenner one just because to me it looks cooler I mean III

think this guy really does look cooler and he could probably open his mouth

bigger than that guy with big sharp teeth and everything he does look more

ferocious also oh yeah and that demon Carnotaurus is really expensive - you'll

pay over a hundred bucks for that on eBay but anyways that's our choices and

and this one I mean I love this Mattel one but I would still pick the Kenner

ones because I think the detail is better the playability is better on the

Mattel one he stands better different positions and stuff but those vintage

ones are really cool guys but if you're looking cash wise stick with the Mattel

one because you could buy like seven or eight of him or even more for the price

of one of the other ones so if the t-rex came up against this car now and his

friends he would really have a challenge so the t-rex charges this car know would

bite him on the head this car no with the huge mouth here would run in and get

him on the neck and this other car know would rip his eyes out so that t-rex

would be going down with this many awesome Carnotaurus is

attacking him and then this guy would be doing the celebration chicken dance

oh yeah I'm cool I'm cool I know it I know it I'm cool I know it I know it I

knew it

President Donald Trump and his team have found out that former President Barack Obama's

former General was caught in an alleged plot to take out the sitting President. It's

been reported that a former CIA officer who served in the paramilitary branch, named John

R. Maguire, had uncovered at secret fundraiser meeting that would gather intelligence in

Afghanistan. Maguire, who served in the paramilitary branch, revealed that Trump's recently resigned

H. R. McMaster had authorized people to spy on Trump, his son's, and Stephen Bannon.

The word spy is used lightly as the correct word, which could sound better or worse, is

surveillance.

It was then reported that numerous people who were part of the CIA during Obama's

tenure as President were not giving the current President the intel that was needed or requested.

This is where the entire situation resembles something that one would see in a brilliant

movie that includes traitors, espionage, and other grueling governmental issues. McMaster

reportedly used a "burner" cell phone which is just a generic phone that they'll

throw away right after using. It's also reported that McMaster used his burner phone

to send information regarding the surveillance to a location in offshore Cyprus. The shocking

part of this is that George Soros reportedly owns the facility.

The Intercept recently reported: "[Maguire] said there were people inside the CIA who

joined in the previous eight years [under Obama] and inside the government, and they

were failing to give the president the intelligence he needed," said a person who was pitched

by Maguire and other Amyntor personnel. To support his claim, Maguire told at least two

people that National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster, in coordination with a top official

at the National Security Agency, authorized surveillance of Steven Bannon and Trump family

members, including Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump. Adding to these unsubstantiated claims,

Maguire told the potential donors he also had evidence McMaster used a burner phone

to send information gathered through the surveillance to a facility in Cyprus owned by George Soros.

Amyntor employees took potential donors to a suite in the Trump Hotel in Washington,

which they claimed was set up to conduct "secure communications." Some White House staff

and Trump campaign supporters came to refer to the suite as "the tinfoil room," according

to one person who visited the suite. This account was confirmed by another source to

whom the room was described. "John [Maguire] was certain that the deep state was going

to kick the president out of office within a year," said a person who discussed it

with Maguire. "These guys said they were protecting the president."

Actions like this may prompt President Trump and a select panel of highly trusted members

to spy on the spies. The problem is that Trump will not know who he can trust as the political

environment seems to be tainted from the previous administration. This is not indicating Hillary

Clinton in any action, but there's always the possibility that she could be connected

or know what's happening since she lost the 2016 Presidential election and possibly

has ties to George Soros.

The level of corruption might run deeper than people think and it appears as though Donald

Trump winning the Presidency has put a bump in the road of the corruption as he's uncontrollable

by the people who work under and next to him. His unpredictability and inability to "play

the game" of politics has caused an uproar from fellow governmental associates. It must

be difficult being the President of the United States and feeling like there are not many

people who you can trust, especially when all you're trying to do is make things right

for American citizens.

Trump's administration would likely consider proposals created by Erik Prince, who is responsible

for developing Blackwater. They'll also consider Oliver North who is a retired CIA

officer who was influential in the Iran-Contra scandal. These two would likely assist current

CIA Director Mike Pompeo with developing a private spy network that would primarily spy

on the people suspected of spying on Trump and his team. This neverending loop of spy

vs. spy will be in counter to the alleged "deep state" intelligence community that

might be seeking to undermine President Trump and what he's working on.

The Intercept further reported: "The creation of such a program raises the possibility that

the effort would be used to create an intelligence apparatus to justify the Trump administration's

political agenda.

"Pompeo can't trust the CIA bureaucracy, so we need to create this thing that reports

just directly to him," said a former senior U.S. intelligence official with firsthand

knowledge of the proposals, in describing White House discussions. "It is a direct-action

arm, totally off the books," this person said, meaning the intelligence collected would

not be shared with the rest of the CIA or the larger intelligence community. "The

whole point is this is supposed to report to the president and Pompeo directly."

Life has certainly proven to you that the traditional quote "Sticks and stones may

break my bones, but words will never hurt me" is totally untrue since words can be

really hurtful and can cause huge damage sometimes.

According to science, verbal abuse, either it's bullying/ cyberbullying, or it comes

from a parent or partner, causes major physical effects on the brain's structure.

After birth, our brain develops gradually through time, so the ways it is wired is significantly

based on the things someone experiences in their childhood.

Cognitive abilities, personality, and self-awareness need years to develop.

According to what Dr. Douglas Fields declared in his interview for Psychology Today:

"When [an] environment is hostile or socially unhealthy, development of the brain is affected,

and often it is impaired.Early childhood sexual abuse, physical abuse, or even witnessing

domestic violence, have been shown to cause abnormal physical changes in the brain of

children, with lasting effects that predispose the child to develop psychological disorders."

The American Journal of Psychiatry published a research which included young people aged

18-25, who had experienced no domestic violence, sexual abuse or parental physical abuse during

their lives, and researchers made a brain scan.

Their findings showed that adults who had suffered from verbal abuse from their classmates

during middle school had underdeveloped links between the right and left sides of the brain,

and they were more prone to anger, depression, and anxiety.

Additionally, the study also indicated that verbal abuse from classmates during middle

school years had the greatest impact, and as scientists declared, this is because the

brain is still not fully developed.

They concluded that: "Verbal abuse can cause significant psychological

problems in later years and brain damage, including anxiety, depression, anger-hostility,

and dissociation."

Narcissists find pleasure in manipulating the sensitive and vulnerable people around

them until they have total control.

Their usual targets are mostly emotional individuals.

This study also showed that such manipulative words and actions of narcissists could cause

a huge, long-lasting damage to the brain, despite the age of their "victim".

When manipulators deteriorate a person's self-esteem, then the body and mind of that

individual react differently.

This loss of balance is among the basic causes of anxiety disorders.

From the Pyramids to Stonehenge – Were Prehistoric People Astronomers? - Duration: 6:44.

EVER SINCE HUMANS COULD LOOK UP TO SEE THE SKY, WE HAVE BEEN AMAZED BY ITS BEAUTY AND

UNTOLD MYSTERIES.

NATURALLY THEN, ASTRONOMY IS OFTEN DESCRIBED AS THE OLDEST OF THE SCIENCES, INSPIRING PEOPLE

FOR THOUSANDS OF YEARS.

Celestial phenomena are featured in prehistoric cave paintings.

And monuments such as the Great Pyramids of Giza and Stonehengeseem to be aligned with

precision to cardinal points or the positions where the moon, sun or stars rise and set

on the horizon.

Today, we seem to struggle to imagine how ancient people could build and orient such

structures.

This has led to many assumptions.

Some suggest prehistoric people must have had some knowledge of mathematics and sciences

to do this, whereas others go so far as to speculate that alien visitors showed them

how to do it.

But what do we actually know about how people of the past understood the sky and developed

a cosmology?

A scientific discipline called "archaeoastronomy" or "cultural astronomy", developed in

the 1970s, is starting to provide insights.

This subject combines various specialist areas, such as astronomy, archaeology, anthropology

and ethno-astronomy.

Simplistic methods

The pyramids of Egypt are some of the most impressive ancient monuments, and several

are oriented with high precision.

Egyptologist Flinder Petrie carried out the first high-precision survey of the Giza pyramids

in the 19th century.

He found that each of the four edges of the pyramids' bases point towards a cardinal

direction to within a quarter of a degree.

But how did the Egyptians know that?

Just recently, Glen Dash, an engineer who studies the Giza pyramids, proposed a theory.

He draws upon the ancient method of the "Indian circle", which only requires a shadow casting

stick and string to construct an east-west direction.

He outlined how this method could have been used for the pyramids based on its simplicity

alone.

So could this have been the case?

It's not impossible, but at this point we are in danger of falling into a popular trap

of reflecting our current world views, methods and ideas into the past.

Insight into mythology and relevant methods known and used at the time are likely to provide

a more reliable answer.

This is not the first time scientists have jumped to conclusions about a scientific approach

applied to the past.

A similar thing happened with Stonehenge.

In 1964, the late astronomer Gerald Hawkins developed an intricate method to use pit holes

and markers to predict eclipses at the mysterious monument.

However, this does not mean that this is how Stonehenge was intended to be used.

Way forward

To start understanding the past we need to include various approaches from other disciplines

to support an idea.

We also have to understand that there will never be only one explanation or answer to

how a monument might have been aligned or used.

So how can cultural astronomy explain the pyramids' alignment?

A study from 2001 proposed that two stars, Megrez and Phad, in the stellar constellation

known as Ursa Major may have been the key.

These stars are visible through the entire night.

Their lowest position in the sky during a night can mark north using the merkhet – an

ancient timekeeping instrument composing a bar with a plumb line attached to a wooden

handle to track stars' alignment.

The benefit of this interpretation is that it links to star mythology drawn from inscriptions

in the temple of Horus in Edfu.

These elaborate on using the merkhet as a surveying tool – a technique that can also

explain the orientation of other Egyptian sites.

The inscription includes the hieroglyph "the Bull's Foreleg" which represents the Big

Dipper star constellation and its possible position in the sky.

Similarly, better ideas for Stonehenge have been offered.

One studyidentified strange circles of wood near the monument, and suggested these may

have represented the living while the rocks at Stonehenge represented the dead.

Similar practices are seen in monuments found in Madagascar, suggesting it may have been

a common way for prehistoric people to think about the living and the dead.

It also offers an exciting new way of understanding Stonehenge in its wider landscape.

Others have interpreted Stonehenge and especially its avenue as marking the ritual passage through

the underworld with views of the moon on the horizon.

Cultural astronomy has also helped shed light on 6,000-year-old passage graves – a type

of tomb consisting of a chamber of connected stones and a long narrow entrance – in Portugal.

Archaeologist Fabio Silva has shown how views from inside the tombs frame the horizon where

the star Aldebaran rises above a mountain range.

This might mean it was built to give a view of the star from the inside either for the

dead or the living, possibly as an initiation ritual.

But Silva also drew upon wider supporting evidence.

The framed mountain range is where the builders of the graves would have migrated with their

livestock over summer.

The star Aldebaran rises for the first time here in the year – known as a helical rising

– during the beginning of this migration.

Interestingly, ancient folklore also talks about a shepherd in this area who spotted

a star so bright that it lit up the mountain range.

Arriving there he decided to name both the mountain range and his dog after the star

– both names still exist today.

Current work carried out by myself in collaboration with Silva has also shown how a view from

within the long, narrow entrance passages to the tombs could enhance the star's visibility

by restricting the view through an aperture.

But while it is easy to assume that prehistoric people were analytic astronomers with great

knowledge of science, it's important to remember that this only reflects our modern

views of astronomy.

Findings from cultural astronomy show that people of the past were indeed sky watchers

and incorporated what they saw in many aspects of their lives.

While there are still many mysteries surrounding the meaning and origins of ancient structures,

an approach drawing on as many areas as possible, including experiences and engaging in meaning

is likely our best bet to work out just what they were once used for.
