I was 32 the first time I picked up a camera.

That's ... ancient in film years.

I'm black, I'm a woman, I never went to film school.

Where did the audacity come from to say,

"I can do this. I can make films.

This dream is mine. It's meant for me."

Growing up my mother was an educator.

She raised five children of her own,

and taught many, many more, and the very first thing

she ever taught me was to be fearless.

"Be not afraid." She would say.

She taught me that my flaws were my gifts,

so because of her I never questioned my desire,

my ability to make films, or anything else.

All I knew was I wanted to make films about women like her.

Fearless, gorgeous, courageous, brave,

better than they think they are, better than they think they are.

The Problem With Those 9 Personality Types - Duration: 4:35.

[INTRO ♪]

So you're with your friends, trying to decide where to go for dinner.

One says they want Chinese food, the other suggests Indian, and then they both offer to go to the other's chosen restaurant and it's been ten minutes and nobody's making a decision.

You finally jump in and say, "OK, let's just get Chinese," and then one of them responds with, "Ugh, you're such a Type 8!"

They're referring to one of the 9 personality types in what's known as the Enneagram system—

specifically, the type that describes a challenger or protector.

If they were trying to say you're controlling, that probably wasn't very nice.

But it was also probably wrong, because despite its popularity, the Enneagram is one of those classification systems that doesn't have solid science to support it and isn't actually a good measure of personality.

You can learn a lot about psychology from how popular it is, though.

The current form of the Enneagram, which started to become more well-known about 50 years ago, puts everyone in one of 9 categories.

For example, you could be a Type 1, called either the Reformer or the Perfectionist depending on whom you ask.

Supposedly, Type 1s are committed to idealistic principles and tend toward perfectionism.

Or you might be a Type 5, the Investigator or Observer—someone who's perceptive and intellectual.

Or maybe you're a Type 8, the Challenger or Protector your friend mentioned, who takes charge and follows their instincts.

In the Enneagram, the 9 personality types are arranged into a circle.

Each type is a point on the outside of the circle, and the points are connected by lines that represent how someone with a given personality type might act under different circumstances.

For example, when you're stressed, you might be expected to take on some of the features of one of the types that's connected to yours.

The idea is that each person will have one type that fits them best.

Supposedly they all have their own strengths and weaknesses.

There's no best or worst type to have, and people are encouraged to try to become the best version of their personality type.

But you might have noticed that you can have a lot of these characteristics at the same time, even just among the three types I've mentioned so far.

Like, I don't know about you, but I try to stick to my principles, and I also like thinking about things in an intellectual way, and when someone needs to take charge I have no problem filling that role as well.

So there's a pretty fundamental flaw in the system—but we'll get to that.

First, the research:

There's not a ton of it, but the studies that have been done haven't found much evidence to support characterizing personalities this way, especially compared to other types of personality tests.

One major drawback is that it's inconsistent.

You can end up with totally different results depending on the test you take.

A few studies have found some links between Enneagram types and scores on the Big Five, the main measure of personality that's used in research because it's been shown to be both reliable and fairly accurate.

But even those studies acknowledged that it's not the best way to go.

Either way, it might seem pretty weird that the Enneagram is so popular given how little research there is to support it.

But its popularity actually makes sense from a psychological perspective.

In fact, one of the reasons the Enneagram is so popular may also be its main flaw:

Many of the personality types are relatable for almost everyone.

Psychologists have found that we tend to agree with vague, general personality statements—for example, "You like being around others, but you value having personal time as well."

It's called the Barnum effect.

We've known about it since at least 1949, and it's been the focus of lots of studies since.

Basically, the participants take a personality test, and you give everyone the same result regardless of how they answered.

People tend to say that their result describes them well, even though it wasn't actually personalized based on how they answered the test questions.

That's the problem with personality tests that rely on vague statements, like the Enneagram:

the results may technically be true, but they aren't very informative because they're true for lots of people.

There's also a larger phenomenon that might be going on here: subjective validation, where something feels more true because it's personally meaningful to you.

It's part of our basic human need to find meaning in things:

Sometimes, people can be so motivated to find meaning that they choose to believe something even when there's not really much data to support it.

Psychologists think subjective validation could be a big part of why people believe in pseudoscientific ideas in general.

But in this case, at least, there's an easy alternative that does have real science to back it up: the Big Five.

Its name comes from the fact that it characterizes your personality based on five different traits:

extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, neuroticism, and openness to experience.

So maybe that's something to explore with your friend the next time they point out your Type 8 tendencies.

There's no guarantee they won't find other ways to insult you, but hey, at least the jibes will be more accurate.

Thanks for watching this episode of SciShow Psych!

From Queen Naija To Will Smith, Who's Your Favorite Social Media Star? | The Trophy Room - Duration: 24:33.

Last year, BET kicked off the Social Awards,

highlighting the biggest influencers and moments

that broke the internet,

producing over 400000 interactions

on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.

But this year, it is back and bigger

than ever as the Social Awards takes place on Sunday,

March 3rd at 8:00 p.m.

live to celebrate all of the top influencers, talents,

and moments that happened in 2018.

Right now, we are in what I like to call the Trophy Room

as I'll sit down with my celebrity panel

and we're gone get down to the bottom

of what moments really broke the internet in 2018.

Ready to meet my guests?

We have the legendary Mr. Brian B.

Dot Miller, the one and only Miss Tracy G.

and my guy, the youngest in charge, Mr. Jameer Pond,

and I am Jamila Mustafa.

Alright panel, our first category is best celeb follow.

The nominees are Cardi B, Nicki Minaj, Jada Pinkett Smith,

Plies, or Will Smith.

Now, these nominees are celebrities

that offer us a front row seat to their personal lives,

I get a little jealous but I can't stop watching.

Who are you guys rolling with?

A little jealous ...

That was good, that was good.

Yeah.

You know, I'm a fan of Sweet Boy Society

but I gotta say Will Smith, I mean, you know,

to have somebody not here for a long time on social media

and to so ... he mastered it.

He's like a master course teacher

and when he slows down his voice and talks like that,

it makes it seem so much more magnified

like he's giving me a lot of gems.

Shout out to Will, I'm going with Will, check.

And I agree with you though because he just got a Instagram-

He just got it. ... in like 2017,

he shows his personal life,

he shows a little bit of his family's personal life

which I bet they don't like but I find entertaining.

It's hilarious.

And he's a master of reinventing himself and that's a good skill.

Exactly! Which makes him also a great student

because it's funny how we look at him

as like the quintessential teacher,

but the reason why he's killing Instagram

is because he studies what works, what doesn't.

What's an open lane that I can take, okay,

everyone is going off of entertainment,

how can I make it edu-tainment, you know?

Come on, let me pick a gem. Here's a gem for me.

Polish it up, boy, it's worth a lot.

But with that said, I'ma go with his counterpart,

the pocket therapist that is Jada Pinkett Smith.

And the fact that your hubster is also in this category,

I mean, it's gotta go to either or.

The fight is fixed.

Two for one.

The fight is fixed.

Who you got, B. Dot?

I mean, after following you,

Jamila, I think I'm gonna go with ...

I gotta go with Nicki Minaj, man.

Because as a reformed creeper,

her posts are like soft core porn, you know.

You might stare hard enough, you might see a nip slip,

you might see a back shot, I'm just saying.

So it takes me back to my former life

so I'm going with Nicki Minaj.

Okay, got you ... alright.

Whoo! That was intense, now we're gonna get into a category

where we can laugh a little bit.

Oh, let's lighten it up, yeah.

Okay. And our next category is L.M.A.O. the nominees are

Chicklet, I Am Zoie, That Girl Jay Cole, B.

Simone, Yes I'm Pretty Vee.

Now these nominees are the funniest,

the most innovative popular kids on social media

if you could say.

From their skits to their roasting

to even their alter egos

and transforming into different personalities,

these kids are killing the internet.

Who would you say are you laughing your ass off at?

You're my boyfriend!

Okay!

Like those are like my three favorite words of

Instagram like for real, B.

Simone, she was just able to submit herself

off of that type of branding, you know?

That voice, she got so many different celebrities

to do it, obviously Nick

Cannon picked up on all her value

and she's a part of Wild 'N Out.

She's also now gonna have her own show

off of you're my boyfriend, I think it's just called

You're My Boyfriend and it's like what?

I do also like Jay Cole

because she just gives a whole buffet of personality, you know?

One day she's just a snot faced kid,

the next day she's just like a hood nigga that you gone

'bout to be like nah, you know?

So she just gives so many different layers

and so I'm here for it

and I'm also just here for three women

dominating this category, three, three, three!

Why over here? What I do?

Yeah!

Just a friendly reminder.

I'm with you though.

I guess this is the reason why I voted for Chicklet

because I love the dynamic between hm and his girl,

it reminds me of my relationship,

just a little bit less violent, you know?

But I love the way they keep their thing,

their relationship spicy,

they're constantly one-upping each other

and it just feels fun.

It feels like I'm almost in their relationship too.

Yeah. And I like seeing women like get they bully on.

Oh yeah. You know what I mean?

You're aggressive today. She's ... for real.

Yeah, no, I'm getting inspo.

Ain't nothing wrong with that.

Okay. I'm, I'm going with Jay Cole.

I think Jay Cole has had an incredible year

and I think her brand of comedy is so versatile

like you were saying, she could play somebody old

and somebody young like a clip back to back.

And it's just brilliant to me,

like her brilliance is very good and she got a ...

either she got a young old face or a old young face,

but there's something there-

And ain't no Instagram filters. Right.

... it's not a Instagram filter, I don't know what it is-

Sold separately.

... but she's so clever and just like in her approach,

I really think 2019 she really gone take over.

Now one person that is on the list

but we didn't talk about is

Yes I'm Pretty Vee with the follow me,

don't follow me, follow me, the robe, her funny punch lines,

I think she's pretty good.

Also, what do you guys think about I Am Zoie?

I think I Am Zoie is dope,

I mean, what he did as far as taking the kids and kinda

like he's studying that kinda craft

as far as what they're saying,

how to react and then blending it,

I think he's really good at what he does.

But I think that girl Jay Cole, she just got the one up, man.

Yeah. That Halloween skit was kinda funny.

Dawg, yeah!

Alright, okay.

Now, this next category you guys are all wavy,

I mean, come on, look at the swag you're giving me.

We love you already boo.

Where you get this from, huh? This is swaggy right here.

That's a fact, it look like it's my size though.

It's my size though.

That's her size.

I'm returning this tomorrow.

But our next category is Issa Wave.

Now, these nominees are City Girls, Ella Mai,

Her, Lil' Baby, and Queen Naija.

Now, this category really covers the musical artists

and the waves that they've created

whether that's social media, whether that's record sales,

that's really kinda word of mouth

and I think that they're pretty dope.

Who do you think is the waviest of the wave?

Well, I'm the president of the City Boys Fan Club.

Shout out to JT and Yung Miami, I just love their album.

I love Period, I love they're brash,

their brand of unapologetic feminism.

It's the kind of feminism I can get behind, you know?

Okay.

Thick fine woman with some twerk ...

They make no apologies for scamming

and being independent and having your own money,

taking someone else's money.

And I'm like you know what, go ahead girl, do your thing.

So I'm going with the City Girls.

Yeah. And you know what, just to vibe off of that,

they don't need the glance of B.

Dot, we don't need males to feel empowered-

Damn! Shots!

... no, not in a way where I want your absence

like I do appreciate the presence of y'all-

Okay, 'cause I would love to be there, you know.

... but mainly in hip hop like

once you placed a woman in front of a camera,

it's like okay, we need you to be some sexual desire

to satisfy the male appetite.

And for them to do their twerk video,

first of all, we just don't see women in pairs like that

so then they made it like a triplet treat

by adding Cardi B to twerk, that became a huge hit.

We haven't see a music video where girls just wanna have fun

and we dancing and it's not ...

We don't need, you know, dudes around to twerk.

We don't need dudes around to look cute!

We don't need dudes around to like show off,

you know what I'm saying?

So it was a different flavor of self love, so ..

I like that. I was with it, what you think?

I'm definitely going with City Girls as well.

I think City Girls-

Three for three- Hey-

... they better win the award, I mean, come on.

... I hope so 'cause along with that, I mean, you saw

a lot of movements being made. So we saw the free JT movement,

which is like on par with free Meek Mill,

free Tony Yayo back in the day, you know, that was good.

Flute out, which became ...

it should be part of a dictionary at this point-

It's a new verb.

... it's gonna ruin a lot of kids

just like it ruined like Fabolos, I still don't-

Bootlyicious, it's a lot of those ...

That's what I'm saying, bling bling-

All tree 'o dem.

... all tree 'o dem.

Respeck, you know what I'm saying?

So that's on par with that and then you just have like

we're saying, you know, the celebration of women.

This is what Martin Luther King wanted.

Light skin and dark skin, Jew and Gentile, shaking at once.

Amen! Amen!

Amen! Shaking at once ...

You know?

So I think they got the streets on lock right now.

And one person we can't forget about

when we talk about creating waves socially is Queen Naija.

She was able to go from YouTube with one man,

get out of that relationship and start dating the guy

who she did her skits with,

then release music on social media

and actually use that platform

to turn into a huge social star but a huge musician.

That sounds like a Tyler Perry movie right there.

It does.

That's a novel.

That's a dope timeline of consistency,

like her fan base is crazy.

Yeah, I saw it firsthand when she was in Times Square

last summer, she caused a frenzy like it was

N*Sync, Backstreet Boys, you know, in the middle-

Wow. Bring out Carson Daly.

... yeah! You know, in the middle of Times Square.

And that showed like real life interaction,

it's not just confined to YouTube, it's real life.

Yeah. And sometimes you need to prove

that like there has to be proof of Internet concept in a sense

because a lot of these big brands,

it's like okay, we'll give you a little change

because it's cute on Instagram,

but we have to test it out to see

if people will actually leave their homes to see you.

That's a fact.

So we just brought up Queen Naija but also come on,

we got Lil' Baby who had an outstanding year.

Can't forget Baby, man. Yeah.

Baby, you know, from killing it in Atlanta

to having some of the most respected musicians

in the game dub him as being next,

Baby was able to score that

Drake feature, he's doing some really pretty big things

that's he's a young guy who said he didn't even wanna rap.

I know that's making all the real rappers pissed off like

I been wanting this all my life.

All my life, I had to rap!

Yes, it's just one of those moments.

So what's your take on Lil' Baby and also we gotta throw Ella Mai

in that category, similar to Queen Naija,

who got discovered on social media.

See, that's the beauty of Lil' Baby

like whenever he does these features, he owns it man.

He's had two Drake features at this point,

every time he holds his own.

And then he has the Yo Gotti feature,

Put It on a Date, where he kills it.

I mean, that flow is like water. His pH balance is high.

Essential.

... it's essential.

And I think we talk about Lil' Baby and him and Gunna,

what they did with-

Drip Too Hard. ... yeah, their mix tape.

And when you talk about even the term drip.

Like it was out before

but they kinda took it to a different level

so you cannot like take away Baby's success.

Lil' Baby's definitely killing it.

And they've also created a lot of content for the dancers.

Now maybe it wasn't like on this In My Feelings

but like the hardcore choreographers and whatever,

I've just seen on Instagram that explode.

And he's been consistent.

Alright, Ella Mai, from social media,

was it Chris Brown I think that kinda discovered her

and then she signed with what, Mustard?

And then she went ahead and launched,

what's your take on that?

I mean, look. Can we talk about the massive success of Boo'd Up?

Can we!

You can't ... like there was a moment

where you couldn't escape that song if you wanted to,

it was one of the best songs of the year

if not the most memorable song definitely.

And she didn't disappoint with her album,

you know, her album, I know they had the controversy

with her and Jacquees, you know what I'm saying?

Alleged king of R&B.

Alleged, well, that's a different story.

But you can't deny the impact or the content

like she's not a one hit wonder,

she's proven that she's here to stay.

You know what's so ill about her too

is that you don't think that she's British,

like she knows how to mask that accent.

I'm like what?

Fooled you!

Now, you guys know how to really hustle in real life.

You gotta go get to the bags.

But right now, we not talking about real life,

we want to talk about who hustles the hardest

in social media.

Our next category is Social Hustle.

These nominees are the influencers

who turn their social media into real life bags

and were able to transform their followers into dollars,

proving that it's not how you start,

it's how you finish and how many bags you collect along the way.

Yes! That's a fact.

So we have Blame It on Kway, Jay Versace,

Lala Milan, Supa Cent, and Shiggy.

Shiggy is a household digital name.

Like In My Feelings-

That's a strong statement-

No, that ... it's a fact. ... but it's true.

I'm standing tall next to that statement

because we saw white people doing the dance,

Asians doing the dance, this was a United Nations type of mission

with the In My Feelings challenge, you know?

But he still kept it gully, he still kept it Queens.

I just felt like he was

one of the most ubiquitous influencers of 2018.

Ubiquitous, come on word! Yes, SAT.

Did he maximize the moment?

I can spell it too.

You know what, aye, look, I believe you.

You know, I do agree with Shiggy

but I definitely wanna give spotlights to Jay Versace

who like really kinda ... he's taking the social media,

he got a Sprite deal, you know what I'm saying?

He has a show on YouTube

that like a lot of stars have already been on

so he's getting a lot of co-signs.

He's very funny and he's making inspirational content,

he makes dance, like very versatile

so we can't forget that.

But it's very undeniable to talk about social media

impact this year and leave out Shiggy.

I mean, the Drake co-sign, you know,

he does a wonderful Stephen A. Smith impersonation, you know?

The spit is extra juicy, it's right there, you know?

But he's very good and I think people are gonna start

seeing him outside of just the dance challenge,

at least I hope 'cause he's very talented.

Can you come off of that?

Aye, that's the thing.

And that's the challenge right now with Shiggy,

you know, just to piggyback off of everyone's

saying like it's undeniable.

I mean, the guy, he flipped a dance

and then you saw him on Good Morning America,

you saw him at Madison Square Garden

with Drake doing the dance. I mean-

And the video, all up in the video.

... he was all up in the videos, you know.

So he definitely maximized his moment.

But you also gotta give props to a person like Kway, man.

I mean, he's so good at what he's doing

that I forget that that's not him in real life.

But I see him in his regular clothes,

I'm like who's this guy?

And then when I saw him with Janet Jackson,

I'm like okay, this guy's a riot.

Right. And two spin off shows, I mean, he has his own show,

the dating show of him and a character

which really pushed the boundaries here

which is a man dressed as a woman,

wouldn't even really call it trans

with a dating show featuring men.

And then of course the Tyler Perry, his sponsorship deals,

his spin off deals, makeup, and the Janet feature.

Like you can't ... that's a hustle right there.

Not as a hustle, that's also undeniable.

I mean, you got a lot of people out here

that are revolutionizing what the game is and how you arrive.

Yes, but also Supa Cent.

She embodies her name from moving metrics into money

without a co-sign, you know, without a dance, without nudity.

She was able to take her makeup and sell a million

in under an hour, I believe it was.

Under an hour, a million sold without needing Kris Jenner

to put her into position, you know?

But also a lot of these dudes and women,

they make money together.

Like we have really seen how collaboration,

there's strength in numbers literally and figuratively

so they killing it.

It takes a village.

And shout out to Lala, boomerang,

a big show crossing over into serious episodic TV work.

I mean, hey, they are hustling. Shoot.

They are.

You can't deny it.

Let's hope we got our jobs, okay?

They taking ours.

They ain't gone take me from this couch.

Hell no, we won't go.

Now one thing we have to talk about,

I know this is gonna be

one of our toughest discussions and topics

but that is what was the top social moment of 2018?

Now, these are the pop culture moments

that completely broke the internet,

they left us talking then, we're still talking about it.

And they could probably resurface in 2019.

We got Black Panther, Wakanda forever.

We got Beychella, the Drizzy Drake versus Pusha T.,

Who is the King of R&B, and the In My Feelings Challenge.

What was the biggest social moment of 2018?

One?

I'm going with Black Panther. I'm going with Black Panther,

I just think it was such a monumental moment,

everybody came dressed to the nines

in their formal kufis and dashikis,

I mean, fathers were coming back in the home.

It was very beautiful like to see black people mobilize

to give all their money to Marvel Studios

and neither here nor there,

but I think the way everything kinda

just formulated around the movie ...

I mean, people were seeing it three, four, five times-

Yes, I've never done that.

... over a billion dollars worldwide,

nominated for an Oscar,

and we support Chadwick still doing this, this right here.

It's a lot of monumental things that kinda made

this like carry over to even now.

Man, I hate Wakanda.

Oh, please!

Don't talk about Wakanda!

So much fiction on this side.

Listen, we would hate Wakanda.

Y'all love Wakanda more than actual countries in Africa.

I saw people go into the movie- Wakanda's real!

... I seen people go into the movie theater

like it was a day in Kwanzaa like what the hell is going on?

Umoja! Umoja be that ... Umoja.

But listen, when you're talking about moments,

we cannot forget about Beyonce, what she did at Coachella.

I mean- Never, never.

HBCU. Yes, HBCU.

I mean, she reinvented what a concert looks like.

I don't even know who's on the bill this year,

I don't even think it matters.

Ariana Grande though.

Okay ... sounds like something you get from Starbucks.

One of my favorite moments is Drake!

Now, I know that the Soulja Boy moment happened in 2019,

but he was so smart that he waited in 2019 to say

that he had the biggest comeback of 2018

just to be the biggest comeback of 2019.

Who's on first? He's that smart!

Who's on first?

Then he came at Tyga, who arguably,

he really should be on the list

because Tyga arguably had one of the best comebacks.

Nobody survives Jenner Kardashians.

He had a song with Nicki Minaj,

he had another song, I mean, ya boy's hot.

He is.

But not hotter than big Draco. Big Draco right here-

He's steaming.

... we don't know, not one song from-

Tyga's still with Young Money.

... in 2019 but he got a deal.

I think he realized the strategy of appealing

to our eyeballs more than our ears.

That's a fact.

So that's the difference between him and Tyga.

Tyga had great songs, but I'm telling you

there's probably some people don't realize

those great songs were made by Tyga.

But you will always remember those antics came from ...

Big Draco!

Big Draco! What up though!

Very true. That's true.

Next question, I need one name, the King of R&B.

You guys are the music authorities,

you've done your research,

you know music like the back of your hand.

Give it to me, who's the king or kings or R&B?

Kick it off, Jameer.

Alright, well look.

Alright, if we talking about overall king,

my man uncle Stevie Wonder has created timeless classics

time and time and time again

and he's created soundtracks that I like.

My mother candidly told me that I was made

to a Stevie Wonder song and I didn't need to hear that

but, you know, I said, I understand.

Hope it wasn't Part Time Lover.

I hope it wasn't! But it would make sense.

Whoo! Different type of couch for that.

Different type of couch, need to lay down for that.

Them type of couch.

But overall for me, I'ma have to go with Jodici,

I think what they did in the 90's has carried over

even now with R&B stars are looking like hip hop stars

with the tattoos and the leather and, you know, just that appeal.

So I gotta go with Jodici, you know,

so shout out to Jodici.

I really wanna be like Beyonce's the king

and is sonning all of y'all,

but I'll stick to testosterone, Terius Nash, The Dream.

A king who creates kings, a king who also creates queens,

that's how you live forever.

That's very true. B.

Dot, give it to me. You know your music.

Don't make me do it.

Ah, come on now, he shall who remain nameless.

Don't make me do it ... gotta go with Robert Kelly.

But hey, most kings get their heads cut off.

Okay, alright.

Yeah. Jay-Z said that one.

I'ma leave it at that.

Robert Kelly's canceled, you gotta say R.

Kelly, don't say Robert Kelly. We know him as the artist.

Well let me pick it up, 'cause after B.

Dot's it's like gosh, you start thinking about the hits

and you don't want to think about the hits.

You know, I'ma give it to,

now he may not be the most legendary,

but for me I really used to enjoy Maxwell.

Maxwell had a lot of good hits, he was strong,

you know, I could go on for days, but-

You love that song Fortunate, right?

... how'd you know?

R. Kelly wrote it.

Yeah, yeah! And then life got a little bit deep, huh?

And the award for the most not to be trusted goes to ...

Now I have to ask you guys this, right?

We just talked about the biggest moments in 2018

from social to music and a lot more,

but what are your predictions for 2019?

What do you think socially is gonna really take off?

I'm getting saucy.

Let's see, I think men are really gonna embrace

more of these lace front wigs, yeah.

I really think so.

No, I'm with you on that, seriously. You laughing now ...

It's a part of feminism,

like if feminism is equality for both sexes, genders,

however you wanna put it, then you might need to let ...

you know how we borrow our man's like hoodies,

you might need to plop this ...

What?

I'm only saying it's absurd 'cause you got all yours.

Wait until that middle or that front go ...

Yeah. But also like prepared or not,

you might get a sale while you have it.

It's more expensive when you got less.

I think we'll get more in depth with cancel culture

and we'll actually figure out like what does it actually mean

and how to properly apply it

because unfortunately it's gone be

a lot more people going down in 2019.

And I think like this R. Kelly thing is just like the start,

I didn't wanna say the Ignition,

but it's just the Ignition to what the bigger problem is,

which is good but we gone have to figure out

what's gonna happen with all these people

providing maybe soundtracks and movies

and shows to your our lives.

Because part two in a sense,

we have to see how that Michael Jackson documentary is gonna be.

That's supposed to be a bombshell, so ...

Very true. B. Dot, what's your prediction for 2019?

I think we're gonna see more meltdowns on IG Live

and other live services.

And also, I think we're gonna see more bad selfies.

And hopefully we'll see like less gang culture.

I feel like 2018, there was a lot of cautionary tales,

I think the biggest one being Tekashi 6ix9ine

and everything that he's going through.

So hopefully people won't be self-snitching.

Yeah, just be soft.

I hope they were taking notes,

you guys gave a lot of good tips for 2019.

Well thank you so much to my all star panel,

we got the legendary Mr. B.

Dot, we got the one and only Tracy G.

and my guy, the youngest in charge, Jameer Pond.

And I'm Jamila Mustafa and this is the Trophy Room.

Well, there you have it.

Those are your nominations for the BET Social Awards,

don't forget to watch the show live on Sunday,

March 3rd at 8 p.m. coming straight from Atlanta,

all of your favorite social media influencers, talent,

and more will be in the building and you don't wanna miss it.

Reporter Slams Matt Gaetz Over His "Thirst" For AOC - Duration: 4:13.

For months now, Republicans had been making a lot of comments about Alexandria Ocozzio

Cortez, you know, they said that AOC, she's not very bright.

You know, she's got these pie in the sky dream.

She's just promising everybody free stuff, all of which are lies by the way.

But those are, you know, comments that she has very quickly and easily refuted, uh, both

through speeches and on her social media accounts.

But there's other comments being made that have hit a new level of creepy.

And one of the people leading the charge with these creepy comments happens to be, unfortunately,

my congressmen, Republican Matt Gaetz, and this has not gone unnoticed this week.

A, uh, Miami New Times columnist Gerry, I Anneli actually called Gaetz out for what

he describes as his thirst for AOC.

Here's what I Anneli has to say about Matt Gaetz.

And he pro provide some examples to show the creepiness that he's had when he talks about

her, says Gaetz quotes include repeated statements that he finds her attractive.

He's called her adorable and in a reference to the Tinder app, uh, the dating app.

Tinder is, he's me.

He even creepily told TMZ this month that he'd swipe right on the idea of working across

the aisle with her in a daily caller interview last Thursday.

He alternated between insulting her intelligence and complimenting her, uh, and he wants again,

felt the need to comment on Ocasio-Cortez looks by referring to her as an attractive

lady from Queens as INL.

He points out in his column, this is akin to stalker like behavior.

Matt Gaetz cannot seem to stop talking about how attractive he finds Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

She is just so damn cute.

She's dumb as a brick according to Gaetz.

But Damn, she fine.

Yeah, that's not appropriate for a sitting member of Congress.

But what it does for me, first of all, she is incredibly intelligent.

She is kicking ass up on Capitol Hill.

She is changing the way it works up there.

What she has done is phenomenal.

Compare that to what Matt Gaetz has done.

He's only been in Congress two years longer than AOC.

Uh, he's proven that we, down here in my district, we're not the smartest bunch cause we've elected

him twice now.

Um, he's wanted to abolish the EPA.

That was actually one of the first things he tried to do.

Uh, he has become a Donald Trump suck up the likes of which would make even Lindsay Graham

blush and he just overall is a complete no nothing.

Who only wants to be famous by putting his stupid face on our TVs as frequently as possible.

Say AOC is actually doing stuff.

She's getting stuff done.

Matt Gaetz has accomplished nothing and that's why he's terrified her.

But at the same time he can't help but feel a little bit attracted to her.

And that's where things get creepy because to me, what this suggests, obviously people

don't say everything out in the open.

You get a more filtered version of that person.

So if he's willing to be this creepy towards her in public, how creepy is he being with

his staff?

Are any of the women on his staff getting the same kind of treatment?

Is he making the same comments about other members of Congress?

Those are questions that I would like answers to and I would encourage anyone who has those

answers, please reach out to us and let us know because if this behavior is going on

behind the scenes, and it's worse than what we're seeing in public, this is something

that everybody in the country, especially those of us down here in his district, really

need to know about.

VFD Dynamic Braking - WEG CFW300 Variable Frequency Drive - Duration: 6:59.

This video picks up where the Overvoltage video left off.

In that video we saw a live demo that showed us when the drive tries to rapidly decelerate

a motor with a large inertia load, the motor becomes a generator, and it pushes current

back into the drive and that raises the DC bus and causes an overvoltage fault.

Dynamic Braking simply monitors the DC voltage and when it gets to a braking threshold that

you set, it re-routes the excess current to an off-board braking resistor where the excess

energy is converted to heat.

The Chopper uses IGBT's which are just big transistors that can quickly switch the high

voltage and current that goes to the motor.

Dynamic Braking uses a fourth IGBT circuit to regulate the current flow to the resistor

using the same chopping method.

Wide pulses send lots of current to the resistor, narrow pulses send a little.

Dynamic Braking is a great way to get fast deceleration times and the WEG drive makes

it easy to do.

I'm using the exact same setup in this video as we did in the overload video, so I'm

not going to repeat that here.

But as a refresher, here are the parameters we used with in that video.

For this video I swapped that A-Frame drive out with a larger B-Frame unit because B-Frame

drives have Dynamic Braking built in.

That's important: A-Frame drives don't have Dynamic Braking built in – the package

is too small to fit the extra IGBT Chopper circuitry.

I set up this B-Frame drive with all the same parameters as the A-Frame drive and made sure

that the deceleration ramp was at 1.2 seconds like we had in the previous video when the

drive gave us the overvoltage fault.

Remember, on the A-Frame 120 volt drive the programming manual told us the overvoltage

threshold was 460 volts and we actually saw that on the trend. When the DC bus hit

460 volts, the drive shut down the output.

But look at this!

On this 230 volt B-Frame drive, the overvoltage threshold is only 410 volts!

That would be down here on the trend.

In the previous video we saw that a deceleration ramp of 5 seconds took the DC bus to 420 volts.

So, to avoid an overvoltage fault on this B-Frame drive we would have to slow down the deceleration

ramp to something even longer than 5 seconds to keep the DC bus below 410 volts, right?

OR … we can use the dynamic braking feature built into this B-Frame drive.

And guess what? Dynamic braking is enabled by default in this drive.

You just add a resistor and you are done.

If I search WPS for Braking, we see there are a bunch of DC braking parameters – that's

a different video – but there is only one Dynamic Braking parameter.

And look, it's preset at 365 volts, and you can set it anywhere between 325 and 460.

Let's go back to our trend.

We know the overvoltage fault threshold for THIS drive is at 410 volts.

Dynamic Braking is preset for 365.

If you set the braking threshold below the normal DC bus level then braking would be

on all the time, which we don't want.

If you set it above the overvoltage threshold then the drive will shut down before getting

to the braking level.

So we want the braking threshold between those two limits, which is what the default value

does, so we will just use that.

During deceleration, we expect to see the DC bus rise until it hits 365 volts.

At that point, the drive should switch the braking resistor in and the DC bus will stop

rising.

All that's left now is to connect the resistor.

A word of caution.

The DC bus is at several hundred volts.

Do you want the drive powered up while you connect the resistor?

I know I don't.

So PLEASE be sure to disconnect the power to the drive and let the drive fully dissipate

it's energy before installing the resistor.

While we are waiting for the power to dissipate, how do you know what size resistor to choose?

The CFW300 user manual has this chart in Appendix B that tells us everything we need to know

about braking.

First we see the A-Frame drive doesn't support braking.

The two CFW300 B-Frame drives do, and they need around a 39 ohm resistor that can handle

around 10 amps.

If you do I squared R that tells us we need almost a four thousand watt resistor, right?

No, not really.

Remember, you aren't braking 100% of the time.

And you really want to limit braking to less than 10% of the time to give the resistor

time to cool down.

So what you care about is the AVERAGE power.

If we are braking 10 percent of the time, then we could get away with something in the

400 watt range.

So I went and searched the AutomationDirect website for a 400 watt 40 ohm resistor and

found this guy.

Exactly what we need.

Again, I'm doing this in my office so I'm just going to let it dangle here, but in a

real application you would want to mount the braking resistor to a really good heat sink.

Usually the largest piece of metal you can find.

I also added a switch in series with the resistor, so I can quickly switch it in and out for

our demo.

Ok, here we go.

The Dynamic Braking resistor is currently swiched out of the circuit, so nothing has

changed from the previous video.

If we start the trend … then hit run .. wait for it to ramp up to speed over the 5 second

default acceleration time .. let it level out .. then hit stop .. sure enough the drive

gives us an overvoltage fault just like in the previous video.

I'll reset the fault, stop this massive pulley .. Switch the braking resistor back

in .. hit run .. wait for it to ramp up .. hit stop .. ahh look!

The DC level never got above the braking threshold and the drive stopped without a fault!

All simply because we added a braking resistor which gave the Dynamic Braking circuitry, which

was already enabled, a place to send the excess current.

Perfect!

One side note: It looks like the DC Bus never actually hit the Braking threshold on this

trend.

The issue is the trend is only sampling the DC bus 5 times a second, and the crossing

happened between samples.

So while we don't actually see the crossing here, it's pretty obvious it did and that

the braking resistor is definitely doing it's job.

For the A-Frame drives, it's the exact same thing, but now you have to provide an EXTERNAL

Dynamic Braking Unit.

There is a separate video that explains how to do that.

Digital Marketing Ideas For Small Businesses in 2019 | Mighty Paw - Duration: 11:27.

He's not all sweet like he is right here, I promise you.

All right, hold on.

You go play.

So, what does Taz have to do with marketing?

Hi, Mike Mancini with PPCVideoTraining.com.

Today, we are starting a brand-new series called This is Marketing: Great Marketing

Examples.

These are ones that I think a lot of people really like to see good examples of marketing

that anybody can do.

It doesn't have to be somebody with a Fortune 500 company budget.

It can be a small mom-and-pop shop in their garage, and these are things that really,

really stand out and are great examples of how to market your business, especially nowadays

online in the digital world, and today's example I'm going to show you right now what it is.

So this is what we're talking about today.

This is Taz.

Taz has been in our household now for not even quite three days, but you can probably

imagine, and for those of you who are a little too young, Taz, the name Tasmania devil, truly

fits this guy.

He is not all sweet like he is right here, I promise you.

All right, hold on.

You go play.

So, what does Taz have to do with marketing?

Well, for those of you who have animals know, it's a huge expense.

I mean, depending on whether you guy or you adopt, you have food, you have kennels or

crates or toys and vet bills, and it just all adds up.

Now, we had a dog that previously passed away a few months or about six months ago, and

we waited a while and we decided now was a good time, but we had a lot of the stuff,

but you just start going back over and we had a full-grown dog.

We didn't have a ton of toys because he just preferred ... You're going to hear that a

lot throughout this video, his little squeak toys over there.

We didn't have a lot of toys for a puppy, so we went out and we bought a lot of those,

and there were some other things.

Now, there's a company, and they are called Mighty Paw, P-A-W, .com.

Now, I found them online because I was buying something I believe on Amazon, and I saw their

company as suggested that I might like this product, and I'm going to show you what it

is.

Okay, so here was the Might Paw Smart Bell 2.0.

This is a little bell that you plug into the wall and then you put a little activator over

on the door, and what happens is when the dog has to go outside, it helps let them tell

you that they need to go versus the barking, and we had a dog that used to bark, which

was fine, but at four o'clock in the morning that's the last thing you really want to hear.

It was a great product.

I thought it was a great idea, and I'm like, "You know what?

30 bucks, we'll try it out."

So I go ahead and I order this product, and we get it and we still have to train him how

to use it, but I'm like, "It's just a ... " It was a cool, little gimmicky type product,

and honestly I could see how it would work, so I'm excited to see if we can do it.

With that said, as soon as I opened the package, this falls out: chew toy, free.

Underneath it says, "Not even kidding.

MightyPaw.com," and then it's got the address, the URL to go to, and being in marketing,

I'm just like, "That's just genius."

They know that this initial product is for potty-training a dog, which usually tends

to say this is a new dog, young dog, new dog, and this is a good opportunity to try and

get them in our funnel.

Even though I've already completed the funnel, but they're trying to get me kind of in their

ecosystem to stay there, and like I said, you're already spending already all this money.

We bought new toys and treats and everything like that, and I'm like, "You know what?

A free chew toy?

Sure, why not."

So I go to the website, and I sign up for this free chew toy.

Now, they're very up front about it.

I don't know what kind of chew toy it is.

I have no idea anything about it.

All I know is that it said it was going to be ... it could take up to 30 days to receive,

which is fine.

It's a free chew toy.

It's not like I'm going to be waiting every day for it to show up, and they tell you that

up front.

Like I said, we don't even know what it's going to be, and I might update this later

and let you know when we do get it, but the idea of not only they got me through one funnel

with the doggy door bell, but now they just throw in this, just a little business card

that says, "Free chew toy, go to this URL."

Now they got me as an initial purchase.

Not only that, but they got me into another funnel by going to their website, getting

basically essentially this is their lead magnet, they got me into that one, and then they started

sending me percent off coupons and putting me in their email list.

But while I was on their website, I started looking around.

I'm like, "Oh, they've got some great leashes and harnesses and stuff that I probably would

have used with either dog had I known they exist."

They've got kind of some niche-y products, and I thought, "That is absolutely brilliant."

Even though I'm in marketing, I literally am going through this.

I'm filling this form out on their website going, "Oh crap, they got me.

They totally got me."

It was funny because I realized it was happening while it was happening, and I just thought

it was a really, really good idea.

So once I signed up for their free toy, like I said, they were very up front.

It's not something that they're going to drop everything to send out a free toy.

They said, "You'll receive it within the next 30 days."

Then they sent me this email, Mighty Paw, by dog lovers for dog lovers.

"What up?

I'm Barley."

And it talks about Barley and joining their family, and then it lets me know what to expect,

okay?

I can basically join the rest of their Fur-ling Fam that here, and I click on that and it

takes me to their Facebook page.

There are a lot of dog people who are just all in with everything, right?

They do the doggy day care.

They don't leave their dogs at home.

They take them to a day care so they can play.

It's a huge, huge, huge industry.

So what they're trying to do is they're trying to get you involved in everything.

They've got me on their email list.

Now, they're trying to send me to their Facebook page, Mighty Paw, by dog lovers for dog lovers.

Post questions, share pictures and videos, and connect with other dog lovers.

Welcome to the Mighty Paw family.

Now, this is brilliant because people love to share pictures of their dogs and videos

and things like that, and cats obviously.

Look, there's 1,500 people in this group.

Hold on.

I'm going to have to pause and come right back.

Okay, crisis averted.

Just couldn't get to his treat.

Anyway.

So, you can get to their Facebook page, and they're putting you in that ecosystem as well.

Then in the email they're talking about what to expect.

In our next email, they're going to give you their best bag of tricks to tackle any situation

a new dog owner usually ugly cries over.

Okay?

This is great because they already know I'm a new dog owner.

I'm trying to buy a potty-training device, and I just got a free chew toy, okay?

So they are literally just continuing the journey.

Now, they're not asking for anything here.

They're not asking for a sale.

They already got a sale, but what they're doing is they're starting to basically nurture

me along, and if they're smart, and I have a feeling they've got some pretty smart people

working on this, then eventually what's going to happen is they're going to show me some

more value.

So, in the next email, they've already told us they're going to give you the best bag

of tricks to tackle any situation a new dog owner usually ugly cries over.

I'm assuming that's probably going to be some sort of training trick or tactic.

Now, whether that's just something to do or if they talk about walking a dog, they can

obviously let us know about one of their dog leashes or dog harnesses, and they can tie

a product in that way.

Or, they can continue to give me this great information, and then after about five or

six emails, maybe even four, they hit me up with an offer.

"Hey, take 30% off any one of our dog leashes," because maybe their dog leashes tie into one

of the trainings.

Okay?

See how that works?

This isn't costing them anything, other than the free dog treat, which is a really cheap

and easy way to get targeted, targeted people into your funnel, and dog people have expendable

income usually.

These things are so expensive that a few dollars in shipping and just a tiny little dog treat

or whatever dog toy it might be, it's probably maybe three, four dollars that they're spending

to get me in their ecosystem as a previous customer.

They're probably only spending maybe three, four dollars to get me in that ecosystem,

and depending on what kind of dog person you are, we can spend a lot of money on these

animals.

But also as time goes on, we can continue spending even more money, and not only that

but we buy products from them, then we can refer people because these products are so

great, like the doggy door bell, and you see how this just snowballs.

So this is not a situation where this has to be a Fortune 500 company with an unlimited

budget.

Literally, I already purchased a product.

They made a profit on that.

What they're doing is taking a little bit of that profit to keep me going and keep buying

products from them.

So I bought the doggy door bell.

They sent a business card, which is pennies.

Then they had me sign up for their free chew toy, and they're going to send that to me

and pay for the shipping on that.

So probably the profit that they made from the doggy doorbell more than covered a few

bucks for a business card combined with the shipping and the actual chew toy itself.

It takes a little bit of time to craft some emails, and guess what?

You have this marketing ecosystem now where they can just churn and churn and churn, and

they can literally just keep sending me these great tips on how to train the dog, on how

to potty train it, whatever it might be, and then they can also offer me complimenting

products that would help me do that easier.

Okay?

We have a very frustrated pooch right now.

I'm not paying attention to him.

So that's this week's example of This is Marketing.

Just a great marketing example.

Give them a shout out, MightPaw.com.

Excellent job.

Now it's ok to feel angry sometimes, but I think I better count to ten and take a deep breath

Coz it's not good to feel angry for too long.

I'm just going to go and calm down now.
