For a whole year with the moments when I bought a 4K 3D TV "LG 55UH850V" my brother
walked around him, licking, until the other day he persuaded himself to buy a new
model of this company, more precisely a 2017 model with an OLED screen of 55 inches
and 4K resolution. Yes, he refused to be able to watch films
with passive 3D technology, but he leaned toward a better
OLED screen, to be exact, to an image with a deep black color. On the official site
of the company "LG" in the line of OLED TVs with a diagonal of 55 "/ 65" screen
there are 3 models:
"E7N", "C7V" and "B7V", differing in the elements and color of the case and stand.
And today will be a brief introduction to the TV «LG OLED55B7V».
The review will be based on some comparison of the above models, it's "LG OLED55B7V"
and "LG 55UH850V", because for a year of using
the TV with an IPS 4K matrix, I have studied it enough, made a lot of videos
that made up a separate playlist on my channel.
A link to this playlist is available in the description, as well as in the final of this video.
Let me remind you that I bought my 3D TV "LG 55UH850V"
in Minsk in February 2017 for $ 1440. It is a model of 2016,
and it is equipped with an IPS matrix with a resolution of 3840x2160 pixels and LED-backlighting.
A new TV "LG OLED55B7V"
was purchased a year later also in Minsk in the online store
technozone.by at $ 70 more expensive, more precisely for $ 1510.
And this model is already the last 2017. Unlike my TV
of the Polish assembly, this device was manufactured in Russia,
so there are differences in the design of the box and configuration. Here everything is somewhat more modest:
it is a discolored box of recycled cardboard.
In the kit there is already a thin book-instruction,
there are no advertising booklets, even the same on-line cinema "IVI",
although there is a separate button on the console for launching it. In the rest everything is standard:
a remote control, AA batteries for it, a silicone screed for wires;
a similar but slightly modified aluminum crescent stand for a TV
with a plastic cover and a gift from the online store HDMI cable is 1.5 m long.
There is no separate power cord, because in this model
it does not disconnect but is fixed to the power supply board under the cover on the back wall.
The TV is mounted on a support made of aluminum alloy. It is not the same as in my TV,
but similar, is attached to the cavity of the electronics box on the back of the TV.
In the support itself, from the rear, there is also a cavity where cables
can be hidden and covered with a plastic cover. Before my arrival, the TV was already fixed
with the bracket to the wall and the packaging and the stand were taken out,
so I can not show them to you. I will only say that the VESA mount standard is 300x200 mm,
unlike my model with IPS screen 300x300 mm.
Let's move on to the appearance. The black UHD screen occupies the entire
frontal part of the TV, the frame is very thin, it may seem that it is made of aluminum,
but it's just a plastic painted in silver.
The corners are prudently rounded.
If you remember, in the model "UH850V" from below, the frame expands and the discolored
logo "LG" flaunts it. Here, the frame on all sides is the same width
of about 2 mm, slightly, literally 1 mm
protruding forward of the screen glass. There is no logo,
so the front side does not in any way betray its belonging
to the company "LG". Due to this, the overall dimensions of this TV
set width is already "UH850V" by 10mm, the height
is lower by 8mm. Similarly, only this time the OLED matrix is covered
with something like organic glossy glass.
This is necessary to protect the matrix itself from external influences and to strengthen the entire structure.
At the same time, the glossy surface, covering the deeply black OLED matrix,
turns into an excellent mirror, in which
all the elements of the room are reflected, and bright bright clear outlines of the windows are superimposed
on the image, preventing viewing. In this sense,
the matte surface of the screen looks better. The very panel of the screen is very thin
about 7 mm, because there is no need for LCD backlighting,
and the matrix itself is a set of small size with a pixel of organic light-emitting diodes
that glow themselves when the control supply voltage arrives on them.
At the bottom, or rather somewhere from the middle of the screen from the back side to it,
as if attached to the whole block is the entire electrical part of the TV.
This block is made of white (I can not stand) plastic, the upper part
of which is a grill for air exchange.
And it is on it that the wall bracket is mounted, in contrast to the model "UH850V", in which the mounting holes
are located in the middle and top part of the back cover,
which has an interesting embossing. At the OLED TV, the back of the screen
is closed again with a glossy white plastic. Therefore, for those who, like me,
are annoyed by the white color of technology, salvation is only in the wall mount of this TV.
And here lies a dirty trick.
The TV is equipped with a rich interface: here already 4, not 3, as in the "UH850V"
HDMI connector, one of which has both input and output of digital sound,
and the same number, more precisely 3 USB slots, one of which is version 3.0.
But 2 HDMI and 1 USB port due to the fact that the electronics unit has lost size in height,
and just like the connectors for connecting antennas, optical and minijack
analog audio out, the LAN port is pulled to the back side and looks into the wall.
It is not possible to connect something quickly to them in the case of fixing the TV on the wall,
that is, you can only use 2 HDMI
and 2 USB ports, as well as a card slot for decoding channels that are installed
from the end of this unit. And in this model they are already more accessible for use,
since they are brought closer to the left edge of the TV,
if you look at its screen, and not like in the "UH850V" deep to the center, that you have to shove
your hand almost to the elbow. I draw your attention
to the lack of the possibility of connecting analog devices -
there is not here as in my model of connectors minijack for the supply of component
and composite video signals, and in the kit there are no corresponding cable-adapters.
The TV is controlled by a similar remote control,
but a slightly modified version of the "MR15RA". The last letter "A"
indicates the presence on it of the button for direct launch
of the on-line application of the cinema "ivi" instead of the "3D" button to activate the mode of viewing stereo images.
All other buttons are in stock. Other differences from the remote control "MR15R",
which is equipped with TV "UH850V" no.
The console is made of black glossy plastic.
The buttons "Standby", "+/-" loudness and switching of TV channels are original,
tactile you do not confuse them. In the center there is a 4-way joystick
with a "scroll". To confirm the commands, click on it, the "OK" button is combined with it.
The remote control is powered by 2 AA batteries,
turns on the TV with an infrared signal,
and then operates it on the radio channel. Has built-in gyro and microphone.
The microphone is used for voice search, there is support for a huge number of languages;
and also to adjust the sound system of the TV
to the acoustic parameters of the room. This is an airship,
that is, it controls the cursor on the TV screen with the movement of the hand in which it is located,
like a pointer. Very ergonomic, it is very convenient to use.
When it is shaken, a red cursor appears on the screen, similar to the beak
of an animated bird that accompanies the user during setting up
and using the TV. In the absence of a TV remote, you can control
a 5-way joystick, which is located in the center below the screen.
There is also a round LED on the red duty mode.
When you press the central button
of the joystick "OK", the Quick Menu - quick menu - is opened on the screen, just like
in the recently watched TV "LG 22MT49VF".
The initial setting of the TV is simple, animated. The whole setup is accompanied
by an animated flock. In this case, the user selects the language of the menu,
the country of broadcasting, starts setting up TV channels
and connects the TV to the router.
Then, by controlling this cursor, you can adjust all the functions of the TV and Smart Hub.
The first time the TV was turned on, the software version installed in it was
updated to 04.70.65. Full name of the TV model on the screen.
The webOS 3.5 operating system has been updated to version 3.7.0.
The amount of internal memory in this TV is expanded to 4.25GB,
compared to the TV "UH850V", where its only 610 kB.
Both models use a 4-core processor, an analogue,
DVB-C, DVB-T/T2, DVB-S/S2 tuner is installed to watch TV programs in analog and digital format
from a terrestrial antenna, satellite dish and cable television.
Reception of TV channels is qualitative and stable. The sound in the TV is very decent.
Here, as in my "UH850V" model,
the acoustics are organized according to the 2.2 system, that is,
two loudspeakers and 2 wide-band loudspeakers,
each 10 watts each, are installed in the electronics box at the bottom behind bars. That is, 2 loudspeakers per channel, total 40 watts
of sound power. Harman / Kardon is no longer used here, but by ear I did not notice
a loss in sound. The same deep bass, and with the help of an equalizer
you can achieve transparency of high frequencies and smooth averages.
There are also preset sound settings.
Dolby Atmos and DTS decoders are installed, and the Dolby Atmos decoder, as I understand it,
does not process the audio digital signal that comes through HDMI,
for example, from a BD player. It only works with the content that
the TV itself reproduces. But no matter how much my brother
and I did not listen when we played the relevant content, we did not feel
the advertised effect of Dolby Atmos, when the sound produced by a moving object on the screen
is reproduced exactly at the point where this object is currently located.
Perhaps, for this it is necessary to be very close to the screen.
The built-in TV speakers of both channels are spaced just about 1 meter,
well, within the width of the TV. But since the viewer, as a rule,
looks at the TV at a distance from the screen of 2 - 3 m, even stereo sound
is not available with the proper effect.
So this TV chip is not practical. Sound and without any Dolby Atmos decent. The militants and music files sound
like in a good home theater. And as I said above, using the built-in microphone,
you can adjust the levels of amplification and delay of audio channels
under the acoustics of the room by launching the item "Magic Sound Tuning" in the sound settings menu.
It is possible to test the built-in TV speakers.
In addition, it is possible to output multichannel audio
to an external amplifier or AV receiver via optical cable,
or a stereo signal through the minijack connector, and of course via bluetooth.
Yes, this TV is equipped with a radio module that provides high-speed, stable
and reliable Bluetooth, a Wi-Fi connection supporting the transfer of content
using WiFi Direct, MiraCast, DLNA. It is possible to organize
a home network based on the program "SmartShare" from "LG" for Windows and to broadcast content
from the laptop to the TV screen. To film fans, fans of high-quality
plasma TVs «Panasonic», I advise you to look at OLED TVs «LG».
Black color is deep, real. Elegant image, viewing angles are wide.
And what I like about the LG screens, they convey the natural color
of the human body, not painting it in pink shades.
Supports USB media with NTFS and FAT32 file systems,
the built-in player plays most video and audio content formats,
excluding the 8K 60fps resolution. Due to the use of HDR,
HLG, DolbyVision systems in the TV, the picture is bright, saturated, contrasting and very clear.
Even the smaller resolution image
looks on this OLED matrix with a diagonal of 55 inches
more richly than on a similar smaller matrix in TVs
that do not have such image processing systems. Of course, the IPS matrix
significantly loses OLED on the display of black color.
On the TV "UH850V", the black color of the IPS-matrix is back-lit
with white LEDs, and it already looks like gray. In the TV "B7V"
if you bring your hand to the screen, which displays black, we will not see
the reflection of light on the hand, because at this point the screen just does not glow,
and therefore the black color is really black. Although both matrices
support 100 Hz sweep, they differ in that the OLED has a color depth of 10 bits,
and in the IPC screen of the TV "UH850V" only 8 bits. In the settings
there are several preset image settings and the ability
to customize by adjusting the brightness, contrast,
color temperature and so on, as well as support for TruMotion.
Both for sound and for the image from the settings menu, you can call up the corresponding graphical test.
In the main menu,
the settings of both TVs are similar. They differ only in the presence or absence
of items responsible for 3D, Dolby Atmos and specific settings
of the OLED panel, that is, the functionality
under which each device is "grounded". Who would not say negative
about webOS from LG, but this operating system will suit any user
with this TV. The menu in it is quite intuitive, easy to manage,
you learn in one evening. Of course, it loses the functionality of the Android-system,
but unlike the Android, which is loaded from the moment the television is turned
on long enough, webOS is loaded in a couple of seconds
and ready to go right away. SmartHub is represented by a ribbon with colored bookmarks
that can be moved and aligned in the desired order,
as well as removing unnecessary applications. In the TV, there is also support for "Multi-screen",
that is, simultaneous viewing of telecasts and video content from external media.
There is also a "User's Guide"
for acquaintance with the functionality of the TV. Built-in browser supports
simultaneously with surfing on sites viewing in a small window of the broadcast.
This window can be moved, when you activate it, you can switch TV channels.
An interesting novelty called "Magic Link". It works
if the operator of your cable television provides information
about the schedule of TV shows. At the moment of broadcasting the program, we call the channel in the upper left corner of the screen
by clicking on the "scrolled" panel. Then activate the cursor with the "Magic Link" widget
with the image of the TV, and the operating system offers content in the browser
or youtube, which is somehow connected with the broadcast on the screen.
It can be information about the director, the actors of the film, the soundtrack
and so on.
The chip of the built-in player for viewing video content and static images,
which is called by pressing the cursor on the icon 360 °.
The effect can be described as follows: You fit inside the ball,
the inner wall of which is the screen of your TV,
that is, the image is above and below your feet, everywhere. But the main purpose of this function
is the ability to view content captured on a camera with a circular view.
In my TV "UH850V" is an inability to view.
The "Zoom" function for enlarging of some details of the image
is caused by the button of the "Focus" console. It is also present in my TV model,
but it works a little differently. "LG Content Store" is represented by a variety of applications
with which you can watch video content, television channels
via the Internet, but most of them are accessed only under subscription,
paid, and the resolution of the image is maximum is possible FullHD,
although in most cases low-resolution films are available.
In the OLED TV SmartHub is supplemented with the "OLED Gallery", which presents
works of painting in the original frames. They can be displayed
and used as a wall-mounted photo frame.
I will summarize. Taking into account all the listed features of the new OLED TV,
the functionality is basically similar to the 2016 model, which is in my use,
but is supplemented with necessary and pleasant trifles.
By the ratio of price / quality, this device is worthy, a bit more expensive than a TV with an IPS matrix.
Everything, for which the television receiver is designed, a clear image
and rich rich soundtrack, are present in it. This 4K-screen
with a good margin of brightness, with clarity and deep real black color. Do you think
I envy my brother? Yes, a little bit. The color
is certainly gorgeous, but I have a 3D image. Although "LG" and abandoned the acoustics of "Harman / Kardon",
the sound in the TV is still worthy, with deep bass and a clean upper band.
