Jeep Wrangler Bestop Duster Deck Cover - Black (2007-2018 JK 4 Door) Review & Install - Duration: 5:41.
If you're used to packing a bunch of things up in your Jeep's cargo area, you know that
having the top off at the same time is not that ideal.
If you're looking for some protection to the things in your cargo area, Bestop's Duster
is just the solution for you and your '07 to '17 four-door JK.
This is gonna keep your items out of sight of the wandering eyes, giving you a little
bit of more security, and a little bit of peace in mind while the top is off.
The duster is also gonna provide some protection from any rain that might not be expected or
even fading in the sun from those harmful UV rays.
Also, if you're going off-roading, this will protect your cargo from any dust, mud, or
debris from getting into the cargo area, or from your cargo bouncing out on bumpy trails.
Bestop even states that this will improve your gas mileage which I'll talk about in
just a minute.
And getting this thing on and off is a piece of cake, but it will require a tailgate bar,
and retainers to secure to the back and seal to the tailgate.
Overall, it's a one out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter, and I'll talk about
that in just a little bit.
The duster is made out of a black diamond material which is the same material your factory
soft top is made of.
This means that it's UV protected to resist any fading, and it's weatherproof so if this
does get wet, the water will roll right off.
Since this is black diamond, this is gonna match all the Bestop black diamond products,
like their bikini tops, their wind jammers, and their soft tops.
I would like to mention though that if you do have soft top, that you will need to remove
the factory rear bow assembly to install this duster properly.
As you can tell from the product pictures, this duster has a very tight fit, and lays
very flat and smooth over the cargo area.
It even has flaps that come off, and a Velcro right around the roll bar to keep it secure,
and reduce wind or noise or any flapping around while driving.
The sides are secured into the belt retainers with plastic tabs, just like your soft tops
windows do, and even has zoning straps that you can pull and stretch the fabric over,
making it just that much easier to install.
Like I mentioned before, Bestop states and proves that this will increase your MPG.
The Jeep is not very aerodynamic to begin with, but with the top off, the Jeep has many
pockets, and areas where wind flows through, and causes a little bit of drag.
This will cover one of those big areas, ultimately, helping your MPG.
Now, if you own a tuner or if you have your MPG on your dash, you may see small changes
in it, but I wouldn't expect a huge improvement overall in just an added bonus.
This will need a tailgate bar to secure down in the back.
The tailgate bar will also create a seal so no water or dust can get through.
If you have a soft top, you can remove your tailgate bar from your rear window, and add
it to the duster, but if you have a hard top, you will need to outsource for a tailgate
bar and tailgate bar retainers.
I'll recommend checking out Bestop's tailgate bar on the soft top hardware and accessories
page, and also, Bestop offers an extension piece for this you can put on when you put
your back seats down.
This has an average price tag on it for a duster at right around $120.
Now, if you know Bestop, then you know that they make the factory soft tops for Jeep,
and they're one of the highest quality brands in the soft top category, so quality definitely
comes into play here with the price.
Now, we do offer a couple of other options for dusters.
We have a lower priced option by Smittybilt for about $50 less, that's very similar to
this duster that I have here.
This is gonna offer the same features, but I do have to say that the quality will not
be as great as this Bestop option, and is more of a quick and easy solution to cargo
protection.
Both of these options though will require the use of a tailgate bar, so if you don't
have one, and you have to outsource, the price will jump up around $50 a duster.
Our higher price option by J Tops USA is about $10 more than this Bestop option, but this
will have some different features, like different material.
It secures from the back with magnets instead of using a tailgate bar, and it has a couple
of other color options available.
This doesn't wrap around the roll bar like the Bestop or this Smittybilt option does,
but it also does not require a tailgate bar.
So, if you didn't wanna outsource, that will be a good choice.
Overall, if you are looking for a duster that is made by a very high-quality brand, will
provide some great protection to your cargo area, and do its job, this will be well worth
the money.
As you can imagine, install will be quick and easy, so I'm giving it a one out of three
wrenches on the difficulty meter.
You won't need any tools for this, just about 20 minutes worth of your time.
First, I'd install the tailgate bar, so you can keep the duster in place while you're
securing the sides down.
So, slide the C-shaped channel onto the duster, and then pop it into the retainer.
Then, you can secure the plastic tabs in the back of your corners into the belt retainer
first, and then work your way around the sides.
Lastly, Velcro the flaps onto the roll bars, and you're all set.
So, if you're looking for some quality protection to your cargo area, Bestop has you covered.
