This is Watch Your Style.

Today I'm gonna be doing an update on my collection.

I actually just finally acquired it.

I've been looking for it for quite some time and it's to be believed the one that got away.

That watch is the Rolex 16610LV Sub.

So

on my last collection update I had mentioned that once upon a time I had the anniversary

Sub or like the call it, the Kermit, and like an idiot at that time the Deepsea had just

been released and I was kind of just thinking, Wow, look at that Sub on steroids, and

I did a trade.

That was actually the worst decision I did because I ended up selling my LV Sub for six

grand.

Now, I thought it was kind of a deal because the Deepsea at that time was retailing for

$12,000, but you already know how I feel about a Deepsea, so at the end of the day, I'm just

happy to finally get it.

I waited for the right time and just, you know it really just happens like that sometimes.

Somebody came up, offered the watch, a couple of people had passed on it and here it is!

The one that was missing out of the collection of my steel, sports models.

That's the guy right there, never been polished, all original insert, M serial and overall

I'm just really pleased with it now.

I have now the Coke, the Pepsi, my birthday Sub, and the LV Sub is back!

So these watches are tricky.

There's a bunch of different ones.

Some are going for $25,000, other ones are going for around nine grand.

You hear about that flat four issue on the insert.

That's kind of a unicorn.

It's not gonna happen!

But an important thing when you're buying this watch is the insert, because you can't

get the insert.

They're just impossible to get.

So, I wanna mention that there's also two colors that actually come in this variation.

There's two variations of the green.

There's one that's a little more of a like an olive green and one that's a sharper green.

I'm not really that picky with that topic.

What I kind of wanted was just the watch at the right price.

If you guys don't know the difference between a regular Sub and an LV Sub, it's not just

the insert.

The dial is different.

It's got the maxi markers, which pretty much the indicators are a bit thicker and bigger.

The hands are also a bit broader.

Obviously, it's got the green bezel, but just so you know, don't ever buy an LV Sub just

because of the insert.

Make sure you notice that it has the correct dial and the reference number.

This particular one does not have box and papers, but I really don't care.

I was just trying to grab one at a good price before that moment passes.

I mean, nowadays people are asking $12,000 for them.

The one tricky think about this watch that I see is that they're demanding a premium,

but I don't really see them selling.

All the guys that I know that have these for sale for $12,000 or $15,000, they're pretty

much just holding them, so the prices are high but I don't see them selling.

So that's kind of where it's in this gray area of whether I should spend this much on

this watch or not.

I picked this watch up for $8,800, OK?

It was a good deal, but it also kind of stings considering that I let go of mine, box and

papers and complete for $6,000.

But overall, I'm still content because I figure that if I buy this watch and I hold it long

enough, at the bare minimum I have my money there.

What concerns me the most is the insert.

I say it again.

I don't mind it if it has a little scratch or something, what I don't want is the insert

to be either a) replaced, the pearly broken or to be completely faded, you know?

I mean, I'm into that vintage look, but not for this watch.

It's not that old.

So overall, I'm happy with the watch.

I'm really excited I finally got it.

What I'm gonna do to it is that I'm gonna have it detailed.

It's never been polished, but I'm gonna have it detailed once, that way it looks crispy.

I'm not really trying to wear this watch too much.

It's something that I wanna have.

It's one of those things, like the one that got away, but I finally got it back.

Pretty much I compare all these older models, sports model Rolexes to my old Chevy.

I don't know why.

I kind of feel like I just see them very similar.

This particular car here, I've had it for 11 years.

This is my 1967 Chevelle SS.

I've done it fully complete from top to bottom.

It's got wheels, suspension, brakes, motor, air condition, digital dash, a little bit

of everything.

It's a hot rod.

It's American Muscle.

That's kind of the way I feel about these Subs.

Now I'm not gonna lie, I kind of wish that I had a brand, new insert.

That's actually the first thing I did when I bought it, I ran to my watchmaker and I

asked, Would you be able to get me an insert? And he told me, Absolutely not!

Unlike my Pepsi and my Coke, I was able to get an original insert, brand new.

I'm just kind of picky with that stuff.

I kind of wanted it to be like crispy, but they told me no. You could probably

buy one online and I know a friend of mine has one, but he wants $1,700 for that insert

and you know, I want it to be crispy, but I'm not spending $1,700 on an insert.

I'm pretty much just happy with that watch.

I'm happy it's bezel engraved, M serial, fully linked and the watch really is in good condition.

Never been polished.

The bezel has never scraped up or nothing.

Glass is minty.

So I'm overall happy with it and I swear to God, unless I absolutely have to, I'll never

sell this watch like I did last time.

So comment below how you feel about the LV Sub and if you liked this video, please like

How to Promote Your Website and Get More Traffic (on a Shoestring Budget) - Duration: 12:50.

When was the last time someone shared your product and services pages?

Better yet, when was the last time that your "get a quote" or "contact page" went viral?

The truth is that website promotion doesn't work that way.

And if all you're focusing on is promoting things like sales pages, you will likely fall behind.

So how do you promote your website?

You're about to learn 10 proven ways to do it on a shoestring budget.

Stay tuned.

[music]

What's up marketers, Sam Oh here with Ahrefs,

the SEO tool that helps you grow your search traffic, research your competitors and dominate

your niche.

Now, there's a ton of material to cover today, and the most important thing is that you get results.

But there's something you need to understand about these strategies before I teach them.

Website or business promotion in the present day doesn't work like it used to 10 or 20

years ago.

Before, people would sift through newspapers, send direct mail, and then they'd sit there and crossed

their fingers and hope that someone would be in the market for whatever it is that they're selling.

But the Internet has flipped that world upside down and made one of the world's greatest

resources accessible to everyone, for free.

Think about it.

People look for reviews before they buy.

And I bet that there are even times when you're in the store and you're looking for reviews

before you buy something.

Or you might even be comparing prices to see if you can get a better deal elsewhere.

So as marketers, we need to adapt and respond to the need for quality and reliable information.

So these website promotion tactics that you're about to learn cater to how consumers respond today.

And that's through content.

So let's dive right into our website promotion hacks.

The first way to promote your website is one of my favorites, and that's to take a data-driven

approach to forum commenting.

Here's the thing, blindly answering every question in your niche on a forum like Quora

will likely leave you with zero results and a ton of wasted time.

But there are a couple things you can do to know with confidence whether the question

has potential to drive traffic back to your website.

So the step one is to type in "Quora.com" into Ahrefs Site Explorer.

And you can see that the domain gets 151 million search visitors per month.

Now let's go to the top pages report, so we can see the pages that get the most organic

search traffic.

Now, let's say that I have a website on college education, I'll type in the keyword, "college,"

into the include search box.

Now, you can see the estimated search traffic that each page gets, so it's just a matter

of picking and choosing the topics that are relevant to the content on your website.

So, let's click through to this one that looks like it's about the length of a college semester.

And once you land on this page, you'll want to look at two things.

First is the total number of views that the question has had, which you can see in the

sidebar if you're logged into your Quora account.

Next, look for a recent answer to calculate the approximate monthly traffic.

This one was answered around 7 months ago and has accumulated around 6,600 views.

Now, do the math.

6,600 divided by 7 months, is approximately 942 views per month.

From here, you could provide a better answer than the existing ones and include relevant

links back to your pages.

From my experience, I've seen 30-40% click through rates to links that support your answer.

The next promotion strategy is to dip into untapped paid media sources, so that automatically

excludes Facebook ads and Google Adwords.

Now, don't get me wrong, both of these ad platforms are amazing and can produce insane ROI for

your business.

But in general, ad networks work as auctions.

So as more people flock to these networks, the prices skyrocket.

But there are less popular places to advertise for cheap.

The one ad platform that I've been raving about over the past two years is Pinterest ads.

Check out these results from one of my paid campaigns.

Just under $1,500 spent, translated into almost 15,000 clicks and 140,000 engagements, which

would be repins, likes, and comments.

That's $0.10 per click, $1.23 per thousand impressions, and a penny per engagement.

Now, you don't need to spend $1,500 per month, instead, you can spend $10 dollars, $20 dollars,

$50, or $100 and see where that takes you.

Pinterest is well known for the quality of traffic they send to websites.

And it's definitely one that I encourage you to explore if your target audience is using it.

Other untapped ad networks that you may not have used are Outbrain, Taboola and Yahoo Gemini.

Again, I've found informational content to work significantly better than landing pages.

So experiment and take advantage of these untapped networks.

The next promotion technique is to guest blog.

Now, I know that guest blogging can be hit or miss since not everyone has a "Write for

us" page asking people for guest posts.

So I want to share two surefire ways to find websites that you can approach, confidently

knowing that they accept guest posts.

First is to Google a query like, "guest post by", and then intitle:your topic.

And you'll find some very relevant websites that are clearly accepting guest posts.

Now, if you're an Ahrefs user, then you can use our SEO toolbar by enabling the Chrome

or Firefox extension.

And right away, you'll be able to see the SEO metrics like Domain Rating and Search

Traffic, so you can see how much Google traffic the websites get on a domain level.

That way, you'll know whether writing for these sites are worth your time, or if it's

an opportunity you should skip.

So now you can pitch the website owners, knowing that they accept guest posts, even though

they may not have a "Write for us" page.

Another way you can do this is using Ahrefs Content Explorer.

You can use similar search operators here.

So let's search for title:pregnancy and then as a phrase match "guest post by."

Next, I'll click on the "One article per domain" filter since we don't need to contact the

same website more than once.

And now we have 215 sites we can guest post for, plus all of the SEO metrics to help narrow

down the sites we want to write for.

The next promotion strategy is to get free press from journalists using HARO.

HARO stands for Help a Reporter Out.

Their platform allows journalists to find sources, and for sources to find journalists.

After you sign up for an account, you'll get email notifications that look like this.

You just need to skim through the results, and if something catches your eye, then you

can read the full description.

So this person wants some tips on maintaining a balance between your personal and business lives.

And she's also made it a requirement that you should be a small business owner or employee.

If you fit the criteria, then click on the email link, write a short and sweet pitch

that provides unique insights and fulfills all requirements that they're looking for.

And if they like your answer, you should get an email like this that will almost always

include a high-quality link back to your site.

Let's stay on the topic of PR with the next promotion strategy, and that's to become a

source for journalists on any publication that you want.

HARO is awesome to get emails directly from journalists in your inbox, but the requests

that come through can be hit or miss.

Using Google Alerts, you can expand your search to only specific topics from publications

that you want to be featured in.

Let's say that you're an expert on hurricanes and want to be a source for journalists on

websites like the New York Times or the Huffington post.

So you can create an alert like this.

Just type within parentheses (site:nytimes.com or site:huffingtonpost.com) or whatever website

you want to monitor, and then I'll type intitle:hurricane.

What this query does is it tells Google to send you an alert anytime the New York Times

or the Huffington Post writes an article where the title has the word "hurricane" in it.

Now, when you get an alert that matches your criteria, you can skim through the article

and look for a place where you can add more value.

From there, you would contact the author, introduce yourself with your qualifications,

and offer your expertise for that article or for any future articles that they might write

on that topic.

The next website promotion technique is to use social groups and I'm not just talking

about Facebook.

Facebook groups are great and there's a group for virtually any topic under the sun.

But group owners and moderators are very well aware that people will often join their group

just to promote their website, product or service.

But you want to know another group that actually encourages posting links to your blog? Pinterest.

Pinterest group boards are essentially collaborations where a group of people share links, images,

and videos on a specific topic.

You can find group boards by going to pingroupie.com and searching for your topic here.

So I'll type in "animals."

And now you can see a bunch of group boards that would be worth reaching out to along

with the number of followers and how often content gets repinned.

Let's click on this one on "wildlife".

And you can see that the description shows some rules for the board.

Other times, the owner of the board will include their contact details, so contact them, ask

to join their board, and boom, you now have access to reach the board's followers with

your content.

In fact, Group Boards have been a huge part of the reason why one of my accounts gets

over a million viewers and 60,000 engagements every single month.

The next tip is to create a free resource or tool and promote the heck out of it.

Knowledge is power.

And if you can make attaining knowledge easier, then all the power to you.

So here are a few ideas of what you can create.

First is a video course on a topic.

And it doesn't have to be anything fancy, but it should provide value.

So for example, if I wanted to show people how to create videos for YouTube, then I might

make 3 videos.

One that talks about equipment and setup, another on choosing topics, and one on video

marketing or YouTube SEO.

Another resource you can create are templates.

At Ahrefs, we love creating Google sheets and sometimes we include them in our blog posts,

which enhances our articles because it helps people take action using the exact same documents

that we use.

And the last one is my favorite, and that's to create a free tool.

People love free and people love tools.

Take this one as an example.

You can paste in a line separated list, and it converts it into a comma separated list.

And according to Ahrefs Site Explorer, this page gets around 2,400 monthly search visitors

from Google every single month.

But I get it.

You may not have the skillset to create these tools.

Well you can actually create a simple calculator using Upwork or even Fiverr starting

at just $20!

Here's a really cool way to find tool ideas worth building.

I'll go to Ahrefs Keywords Explorer tool and type in "college," assuming that's a keyword

related to my industry.

Next, I'll go to the phrase match report.

Finally, I'll type in the word "calculator" in the include box.

And right away, we have a list of potential tools we can create.

Looking at the top 10 Google search results, for the first keyword, "college GPA calculator",

you'll see that the top ranking page generates over 750,000 search visitors per month!

The next tip is to take snippets of your articles to increase social sharing.

If you look at one of our blog posts, you'll see that it's a massive list of 75 SEO tips.

In fact, this post is over 9,700 words, so the percentage of people who read the entire

article will be slim to none.

So you can splice each tip into a short snippet and you now have 75 different things to share

on your social media networks.

In fact, that's something we've done on Twitter, which has helped us generate over

9,300 social shares from just Twitter, Facebook, and Pinterest.

Turn each tip into an image, and you now have 75 posts you can share on Instagram and Pinterest.

The next tip is to partner up with complimentary businesses and do a joint webinar.

Here's how they work.

Someone from company A contacts someone in a complimentary, non-competing business, and

asks, "Hey want to do a webinar together?"

The person from Company B says, "Sure."

Then each company promotes the webinar to their respective email lists, customer lists,

or whatever promotion methods they choose.

Then when they present the webinar, they'll both teach on the set topic, incorporate their

products and expertise, and usually pitch their product at the end.

So essentially, you're helping each other promote your websites, grow your businesses,

and generate more revenue.

And this is a technique that we've been using.

We've recently joined forces with Buffer to deliver a free webinar on how to get more traffic

to your website.

Now, before you go out and start pitching random companies, I highly recommend starting

with people you know and have an existing relationship with.

So go through your inbox, and try to reconnect before asking them for a solid.

The next tip is to repurpose your content.

On a good week, it takes around 20 hours to create a piece of content for Ahrefs blog

or YouTube channel.

But rather than calling it a week, we take our content and repurpose them into different

media types.

The thing is that people have different learning styles.

Some want to watch a video and others prefer to read a blog post.

So let's take the SEO tips post again.

Almost 10,000 words of pure gold.

So we turned it into a 17 minute video with a little bit of overlap, but some different tips

that aren't included in the blog post.

Our video on local SEO takes you through a step-by-step process where you can follow

a story of ranking my local coffee shop, High-Speed Coffee, whereas the blog post gets into the

nitty gritty details of each step.

Other ways you can repurpose your content is to turn a blog post into a Slideshare presentation,

infographic, video or if you didn't start with a blog post, reverse it into one.

These are some tactics that are working for us right now at Ahrefs and some that we're

still testing.

Now make sure to like, share, and subscribe so that you can get updates on SEO and marketing

strategies that are working today.

Also, leave a comment and let me know which website promotion tip was your favorite.

Or if you have another one that I missed, I'd love to hear from you and test it out

for myself.

So keep grinding away, go and promote your website, and I'll see you in the next video.

I like a right angle to cut my corners with you'll also need some sort of a

glue dispenser these lure locks with blunt nose tips link below

they are fantastic for putting glue where you want

I suggest get yourself a good circle cutter I'm using this FISC our circle

cutter here link below because cutting circles without a laser is nearly

impossible so let's start by making a cylinder we're gonna use this fist cars

circle cutter the beautiful thing about this thing is it doesn't leave a mark in

the middle of the circle that you're cutting out like it would with like a

compass or something like so that's why I like this now this

circle cutter is made for material that's a little bit thinner than the

cardboard that I'm using it for so I have to give it a little bit of a cut

with the exacto knife but 90 percent of the work is already done so to make the

sides of the cylinder we're gonna wrap the cardboard around the edge of the

cylinder to get the correct length you could measure this of course as well or

even calculate it with some math I just simply wrap it around we're gonna use a

little bit of painters tape to glue the two ends of the cylinder onto that two

inch strip of cardboard Here I am using a slightly more flexible or thinner

piece of cardboard for the edge that I'm rolling around the circles we're going

to lay down a little bit of white glue here with the squeezable blunt nose tip

dispenser we'll put a piece of tape on the end and we're basically in a roll

this piece of cardboard on the edge of these circles to make our cylinder I'm

going to tape everything together you want to use the painters tape because it

doesn't grab onto the cardboard as aggressive as regular masking tape would

still a good idea to maybe stick it on your shirt one time to get a little bit

of a fuzzy and take some of the tack off because even on the cheapo cardboard it

can grab on to it and still pull off the fibers off the cardboard I'm just making

some last-minute adjustments here get everything as flat and smooth as I can

and here it is with the tape removed nice little cylinder one of the great

things that cardboard is good for is mocking up folded sheet metal parts now

not all folded sheet metal parts are bent at 90 degrees sometimes they have

softer radiuses sometimes they have bends in them cardboard is fantastic for

that so let's build a little bit more of a real-world advanced cube where we take

a look at maybe an inside radius a nice fat beveled

and maybe a softer radius curve and how we would build something like that to

simulate either a sheet metal part or possibly like a molded part to get a

good idea of what that's going to look like so I'm gonna cut the two end pieces

first and I'm basically going to make the sides and stick them on kind of like

we did with the cylinder before I'm gonna go for the low-hanging fruit first

here meaning I'm gonna do the EZ corners and edges on this simulated box part

here so we're just lay down some white PVA glue again going for the low-hanging

fruit doing the easy stuff first this gives us a little bit of stability in

our model so that when we go to do these trickier corners and bends and stuff we

have a little bit of structure inside of our model already to keep things

straight and square and something we can actually grab onto we're gonna roll this

edge along the this.q when I glue on the one side first then I'm gonna come in

I'm gonna lay in my glue along the other edge and we need to roll that edge so

what we're gonna do is we're gonna use a little water that's gonna soften up the

fibers on the outside of the cardboard now I'm not soaking the cardboard in any

sort of way we're just allowing the fibers to expand

when we roll them around that soft edge right there so that they don't tear and

we don't have any issues we soften them up I mean we're gonna add a little bit

more so that it can kind of settle and get us a nice soft radius around that

corner the next thing we're gonna do here is we're gonna attack that larger

45-degree bevel part and in this case I'm actually gonna bevel a little part

that goes in there with a little 45 and then just glue everything in because

those pieces that I cut that butt up against the little part that we just cut

they have straight 90 degree cuts on them so drop it in a little 45 on the

part that you're dropping in is gonna be the best way to get yourself a nice

clean edge along those surfaces there here we're gonna do something on inside

radius piece so we're gonna put water on the inside of our cardboard that's gonna

allow the cardboard to stretch on the inside and we're gonna use a piece of

PVC to press it into place I rough cut the cardboard twice because I'm gonna

put a rubber band around this thing and I don't want the rubber band to cause

any distortion in the cardboard want to let it set up and let that dry in place

and that water really helped us make that inside radius I'm gonna free cut

this last edge and wheel off our tape and we're going to have a nice simulated

interesting little box that's gonna be a lot more like a real world part that you

would make let's take a look at how we can make a cone I'm gonna cut a mat

board part with the circle cutter here again this mat board is a lot thicker

and tougher than the cardboard even that we cut before so we have to finish

cutting it because that circle cutters really not meant for that it's meant for

more like a bristol board here a thin weight bristol board or a paper and it

cuts through that no problem the cardboard is a little bit tougher when

you'd put a little lip on our cone here and then taper the top just a tiny

little bit of glue and this lip overlaps the inside on both sides and allows us

to glue the skirt together so to speak to make a basic cone and I do this by

hand and the cone is a little oversized and I use my fingers and the back of a

paintbrush to sort of burnish and get the tip and form that correct the next

thing I'm going to do is I'm going to mark where that seam is to put that cone

together with on my bottom circle and that's gonna allow it to fit nice and

flush I trace where that circle goes in the bottom of the cone so I know where

to put it and where to put my glue and so that when I go back and place the

bottom of the cone I know exactly where to put it right

along that line I'll let that set up and I'm actually gonna use the back of my

exacto here and I'm gonna burnish the outside of that cone a little bit just

to get a little bit smoother the heat generated by the friction of burnishing

it back and forth helps flatten out and smooth out the cardboard a rough cut it

to the correct shape and then I put it on 120 grit sanding flat surface here

like a sanding pad so that I can get the thing absolutely flat and smooth I'm

going to show you how to paint your cardboard it needs to be sealed and I

seal it up with some shellac and I just put that on with a paint brush and then

I put on some primer and I'm gonna show you what that finish looks like so this

is a metallic spray paint finish on the part with the shellac that's also on the

outside and this is the bottom it's a little tough to see here but that's a

little rougher on quite a bit rougher actually in real life then where we

shall act it so I'd you need to seal the cardboard this is a piece of bristol and

that's a pretty much higher quality than the regular cardboard and that finishes

up beautifully you still do need to seal it

that completes the cardboard advanced basics anything you guys like to see in

BOLD 2018: State of the Wellness Industry - Duration: 40:40.

You. Thank you for being here.

Are you excited about

Billie Jean King a little bit later this afternoon.

I am so stoked to see Billie Jean King.

So I want to thank our keynote sponsor

for the Billie Jean King

Keano segment

and that is fek grid.

Figure it out.

Yes. Thank you.

Great. So we have

Roxy and Maya here to share

with you some state of the industry.

They've been doing research

and have some amazing data to share

with you. Come on up Roxy Borger's

a former yoga studio owner a certified

yoga instructor.

She's the queen of MINDBODY University

having been at 50 MINDBODY

universities

and she has a degree in mathematics.

Maya come on up.

As a former college athlete

if you couldn't tell by looking at her

she's a certified fitness instructor she

has aPh.D. in cognitive science

from UC San Diego right down the street.

And she leads our MINDBODY research team.

Give them a big hand please.

Data.

Data.

Data.

If you know anything about me

and Roxy you know that we love data

and we have had so much fun putting

together this presentation for you guys.

We've looked broadly at the market

and market research we've looked at our

own internal customer data

and we've even looked at some consumer trends.

So we have lots of great content.

We're going to zip through it.

So let's talk about the wellness industry.

In 2015.

The global Wellness Institute

characterized it as a three point seven

trillion dollar global economy.

What's really exciting is that in a couple of

weeks the global Wellness Institute is going

to be publishing their new study.

So for those of you guys who like to geek out on

that stuff look out for it

and we're hoping that we're going to see that even

taking up higher at about 4

trillion dollars to put.

To put that into perspective that's about

a fifth of the size of the entireU.S.

economy. So the market's doing

great.

Here's how the global Wellness Institute

characterizes the wellness industry.

So it's comprised of everything from

fitness

and spas

and thermal and mineral springs

and you can see that for instance that fitness

economy is 542 billion

dollar global economy super exciting.

We're also seeing strong growth

in theU.S. fitness industry.

And for instance the yoga Pilate's

industry is projected to grow

at a rate of four point nine percent

through 2022.

Gyms and health clubs are projected to grow

at about 5 percent

and we're seeing specialized concepts like

boutique fitness franchises are

projected to grow nearly three times that rate.

So lots of growth.

Okay.

beauty and wellness wellness industries

are flourishing as well.

So salons

and spas projected to grow into

the future.

And then these specialized concepts like

blow dried bars

and massage franchises are

projected to grow at a high rate

that's not showing up a blow dry bar 25

percent. Pretty exciting.

Yeah.

So when we look at our own customer data

what's really exciting is that

theU.S. GDP you can see kind

of year over year growth rates are quarter

quarterly growth rates.

Our own customers are class based

businesses like our fitness businesses

and our biggest businesses are

doing better than average businesses

in theU.S.

So that's awesome.

Yeah.

So.

So. Let's talk a little bit more about wellness in

America.

Well so this is you may remember from yesterday

it's the 7 dimensions of wellness

and over the summer the MINDBODY research

team had the opportunity to look

broadly at theU.S. consumer

wellness and how consumers are doing

on their own seven dimensions of wellness.

So we conducted a survey of over 3000

Americans

and we asked them about how they're doing on

their 7 dimensions of wellness

and here's what we discovered.

A lot of opportunity right.

So what's cool is that the industry is

growing and yet consumers

have so much opportunity to continue

to improve their wellness through engaging

with Llama's providers.

So 68 percent of Americans

don't prioritize fitness that's

a huge opportunity for us to do even

more.

The cool thing about participating

in one piece of wellness

or one dimension of wellness is that there's

benefits to other ones as well.

So one of the cool things we learned

in our research is that

people who participate in group exercise

are 27 percent more spiritually

fulfilled than those who do not.

And that may not be a surprise to anybody that

owns a yoga studio

or across that studio that the

people who come to your facility

are more engaged in things

like closer relationships

they're more comfortable expressing feelings

they enjoy their life more

and more.

And so it was neat to see that reflected

in our data.

So we also asked Americans having engaged

with wellness providers.

We found that 63 percent

of Americans are

engaging with beauty service providers.

39 percent engaging

with integrative health providers

and 26 percent of Americans

are going to group fitness.

So lots of opportunity

and only 16 percent of Americans

see wellness providers

and all three of these different modalities.

So what we take away from this data is

that wellness providers.

I need it more than ever.

We also have the opportunity to look at someU.S.

consumer wellness trends so this

is kind of what's hot what's not in the industry.

When we looked at people that go to group fitness

on a regular basis we actually found

that yoga is the most popular

group fitness.

Yeah.

We learned that 28 percent of people that

do group exercise are going to yoga

at least once a week.

Very accessible to all age groups

and age categories.

So yoga is high.

You guys may also see if your you

know your specialized studio you can see some

of the trends that relate to you.

Brody you guys may

remember we talked about the Bogey's last

year. These are men who go to yoga

and what we're seeing that's really awesome is

that that broke population continues

to grow year over year.

So this year we saw 30 percent of

men engaging 30

percent of our yoga practitioners are men.

And it's up 7 percent from 2016.

The really cool thing about those Bogey's

is that they're very engaged.

So 40 percent of these men

who practice yoga are going four to five

times a week or more.

We also learned across different

age groups and age categories that

millennials are particular

and particularly interested

in high intensity interval training.

So you can see that 38 percent of

millennials are interested in things

like boot camp

and cross fit.

And you can see some of the differences in

the different age brackets

depending on which modality you're most

interested in.

So. Spot treatments.

We asked people what's hot

with spa.

We learned that massage is the most popular

spa treatment.

We also learned facials are flying

so people who go to spas on

a regular basis 38 percent

of them are interested in trying facials

and we looked at some of the age

differences

with our agenda mirrors

those of the 18 to 25 year olds

they're interested in mud

and detox body wrap services

and hydrotherapy.

We also looked at some differences between

men and women found some interesting

things.

So in the.

Women category we found that

with regards to those integrative health

and wellness services women seemed to be

more interested in relaxation services

like massage and hydrotherapy.

And men are more interested in these pain

management modalities

like chiropractic acupressure

and acupuncture.

We also found that men in general

are using these integrative health services

more frequently than women

and their spend is a little bit higher.

So 32 dollars on average a month

versus 24 dollars.

In terms of some fun facts.

We discovered that 3 percent of women

are using Barbar services.

So potentially for specialized haircuts

and things that can't be done in a typical

salon.

And we've learned that 16 percent of women

want to try permanent make up

as another fun fact

we learned that 6 percent of men

say they're interested in Lasch extension.

So working

maybe working on their plumage

yes

and 23 percent of men are interested

in trying manicures

and pedicures.

I know that my husband likes to come

with me when I get my pedicures have

a little pedicure day.

Great. So it's all about

the revenue. So we wanted to see how much

Americans were spending on wellness.

So we asked people how much they're spending on wellness

activities in our

consumer survey.

And this is just at wellness

providers it's not for things like retail

like yoga pants

and things like that is really just for the service

offerings.

So what we learned is that allU.S.

consumers are spending on average about eighty

seven dollars a month on wellness.

When we look specifically at people who

work out one time a week

or more you can see that that ticks up

a little bit to one hundred two dollars a week

or excuse me a month.

And then when we looked at us consumers

who attend group fitness we see it's

going up even more so 172

dollars a month on

wellness.

And finally when we looked selectively

at our MINDBODY app consumers

here's what we see.

277 dollars a month.

It's not showing up

but it's 277 dollars when

you add up all of those categories.

And what's really interesting

is that that participation in group

fitness is correlating

with higher spending across all wellness

modalities.

So not just fitness

but beauty and integrative health are

MINDBODY app users are spending a lot

on their wellness and wellness care.

So Roxy

and handed up to you for some industry benchmark.

BreitBurn.

So first I have to have my Blake

moment. I just want to thank you

Carrie for what you're doing in Detroit.

I grew up in downriver Detroit

and but I've lived in California for 15

years and my heart is still there

and I've struggled to bring wildness to my

family and friends who are still

there and live very different life.

Sounds like it's very easy to live the lifestyle

and the central coast of California.

It's a little harder to bring it back for me

for some of the people that are really.

That's just not part of their habits so

I'm just letting you know that what you're doing

like in deep in my belly

and my soul like I'm really grateful for what you're

doing and I'm going to come visit you when I come

to Detroit in October.

So I'm sorry you had to make all of you look.

Like that's my that's my home

that's my peeps. So anyway

now you get to hear more about data.

So first I want to take a moment

to talk to you about consumer booking trends.

Actually even before that I feel the need to say

those feel free to keep taking pictures

of the slides but you'll be able to download a PDA

for this presentation.

For those of you who wanted to know about

it I was told I hope

it. I hope it's true.

Let's first talk about consumer booking trends.

So this story here

is that online bookings continue

to grow

but they're not as much as I think they

could be.

So the orange bars you're looking at

that's the amount of online that's the

amount of bookings in the MINDBODY platform

that have been happening over time.

So more and more bookings are happening through MINDBODY.

The red line is the amount of those that are

happening online

and it's up 40 percent

and it really has only been growing by about

1 percent per year for the last few

years. So I think you guys

have a huge opportunity

to better encourage your customers

to go online.

So I know we're doing better now than we've ever

done when I first talked about online

booking and you like 10 years

ago you guys were like I'm not doing that.

Why would I do that.

And frankly the experience probably wasn't

that great then either.

Now it's so beautiful

and easy.

So if you're not sure about

your online experience either in the app

or through your Web site you can stop by the

product playground we have a makeover booth there

they'll help you through the MINDBODY app.

Make sure your app looks great.

It's optimize everything works really well.

So we still have a ton of opportunity there

and you can remove those barriers

to entry for your prospective customers

and your existing customers.

And we know social media

is hot right.

So.

So this is like a no brainer that

we are getting a ton of new

leads and discoveries from social

media.

The top categories are Facebook

Instagram and Pinterest.

But the two things that are most exciting

to me about this data

and this is from Google is that

of those people that are finding

your business through social media.

Half of them are actually making purchases.

So the leads that are coming to you through

social media are warm leads they're likely

to make purchases.

And why don't we make that process

easier for them.

So MINDBODY has the ability for you

to completely Nesson integrate

your Instagram booking so

they can book right within Instagram

they can both write within Facebook they

don't have to leave.

Thank you.

So so you can make that experience

easy and sexy

and they don't need to leave the social media

platform.

So you should do that.

You haven't checked out MINDBODY promote that

to our functionality that does that.

That's also a dynamic pricing enter offers.

We have a booth that will talk to you about that too.

So check it out.

Hands down like this is like the

story of my life for any of you who've heard me

speak already.

I've been shouting from the rooftops for

ever that retention is the biggest

challenge we face in our industries

and it's very easy to forget that

because you guys are having to fix broken

toilets and deal

with subs and deal

with all the things that are being thrown

your way. But really the

even if you move retention a tiny

amount it's saving you money.

So I think retention

is a huge opportunity

and this is what the data is surrounding

retention. So year over year retention

is about 30 percent

and I was really intrigued this year.

What's different what we looked at differently is

we wanted to understand appointment based businesses

versus class based businesses.

The bottom line is both of those

industries. Everyone is really

only retaining one third of your customers.

Year over year

and this is a very loose definition

of retention meaning of all the

customers who made one purchase in 2017.

At least one did they make at

least one more in 2018.

That's just two purchases

and only we're only retaining 30 percent

of those. So if you can get this percent

to move even 5 percent

you're going to see better profitability

in your business you're going to see more community you're going

to see more customers coming back.

But we also wanted to give you a little big

hairy goal to shoot for.

So we actually looked even deeper.

So what we did was look at the year

over year retention of all of our customers.

And then we looked at what the top 10 percentile

was. So this is your be

big very aggressive goal for next

year. So I want you to come up to me

at bold next year

and tell me how much you change your year over year

retention.

This is a good goal to shoot for this

is what the top businesses are

achieving in MINDBODY.

So 56 percent

or 59 percent 56 is Kos's

59 as appointments.

So are you guys going to improve.

You learn so much at Vold right.

So my your brains are stuffed I'm

sure.

Okay. So I I'm a teacher.

I've been teaching

with MINDBODY

and working in your industries since

2005.

I owned a yoga studio for five years

and my my job is to compile

education for you guys that really works.

So I just want to take a moment to give you a little

light. So what can you do to improve

your retention

and I propose that if you really focus

on these three things over the next year you

can move that retention.

And first I'm going to start

with the foundational thing which is marketing.

You have to be filling the funnel

and it's not just throwing money

out there and it's not just posing

to social media while you're out bolds.

I hope you do that too.

But I want you to do

marketing that you're measuring the results

from. I want you to look at why

you're spending your marketing dollars

and energies on in which one is providing

the best results and do more for the hatch.

And you know MINDBODY promote can help you

with that. With all the marketing features that

it has.

Second it's pricing.

I think we should have a methodical

intelligent pricing that is

rewarding the committed customers

is making it easy for customers to

make decisions to come

into your business.

We're meeting the customers where they are if

they're a sporadic user of your

services that means they

might use dynamic pricing

or a drop in rate

but if they're really committed they get

the best rate on a per session basis.

And then last but not least sales

and so many of you guys might of just squirmed

seeing that word on the screen right.

You made a lot of us

don't feel comfortable selling

our life enhancing services.

That's kind of crazy isn't it.

Like you should be shouting from the rooftops

what you're doing

and how great it is.

So what do I really mean

with sales. I mean hey

if you sign up for our membership

before your intro offer expires you

get 20 dollars off per

month for a year.

I mean that's kind of aggressive.

But what is that.

That's an incentive to get

those people to stay

and to keep people on.

Right. So if you want any more information

on that check MINDBODY 1 our

community our online platform out.

Check out MINDBODY university events.

MINDBODY University on demand we have tons of content

surrounding all these topics.

So next I wanted to

talk to you a little bit about sales trends

really wanted to better understand

the types of purchases that are happening

in your businesses.

So we looked at sales

mix break down

and what I was really excited

to see is that fitness businesses

in particular really embraced

selling memberships

and multi session packages.

And this is really the most purchases

other than single solutions that I've seen

yet since we've been running the data.

So great job fitness businesses

and getting people to buy their packages.

Why is that cool.

Because you remove barriers to entry

for those people that come back for more than one session.

So that's why I like that.

And then we looked at beauty as well so beauty.

You know no surprise it's the opposite

scale. Their beauty services

see 90 percent 91 percent

of single sessions being purchased.

So maybe there is some opportunities

in beauty and integrative health to encourage

repeat purchases

or least another visit.

Right.

Last but not least.

I just want to share this slide

this graph.

This is data surrounding expenses

with you. So this is actually

fitness studio expenses

you guys. Yeah I heard you

are a little distracted.

It's also a friend of mine so that's OK.

So fitness studio benchmarks.

These are the top fitness studios using

MINDBODY

and we finally just asked what are your

expenses.

And this is what they are so we just wanted to

share that with you.

I could literally stand here

and talk about this slotted

with you for about four hours.

But I have about a minute.

So I'm just going to say a few

things about the expense side

which we don't often get to talk a lot about.

One I want to say you know payroll

biggest expense you have.

And I want you to reward

your hardworking dedicated

team members

but you also need to pay them based

on what your business is currently earning.

And so I just want to make sure that you

know think about that

and if you're struggling

you minimizing your expenses

can be a way to like free things up

and make your bottom line a little bit.

Better.

Second thing I want to point out is

owner draw owner draw is often not

listed in the fixed expenses.

How many of you guys aren't paying yourself right

now.

Some of you are in a lot of you probably

are and you're not willing to raise your hand just feel

a little guilty.

I didn't pay myself the first two years

I ran my yoga studio.

It's a little painful isn't it.

And I really just want to encourage you

not to do that forever.

OK so that's my letak Please

I'm your. I'm like your business coach your mom.

Don't let that go on too long because

if you let it go on too long you'll get

burnt out you'll get resentful

and you won't be in business forever.

I want you to be in business forever ok.

Or as long as possible.

OK.

We all good that.

I'm going to say OK again I don't know.

All right. The last thing I want to point out is

marketing.

So a lot of times when budget gets

tight we pull money from marketing

because it's an easy thing to pull money from.

And so last

but not least don't pull money from your marketing.

You always have to be reinvesting to be bringing

in more new customers so that we can make

up for that retention challenge.

All right so we're moving on to wellness

and technology next.

Thanks.

I always loved working

with Roxy because she just brings

the data home.

She really helps you understand the insides

and how you can apply them to your business.

So definitely enjoy working

with this lady.

OK so the last thing I'm going to talk about

won't take too long

but I basically want to talk a little bit about some

technology trends at the end of the day.

MINDBODY is a technology company

and we're here to help you really take

advantage of the best tech that's out there

and think about how to apply it to your business

so you can continue to improve

stay relevant

and make the best use of

your dollars.

So one of the fun things that we did

in the prodder playground this week is we

were running a tech trends survey.

So for those of you that participated.

Thank you.

It's a small survey

but we wanted to know from you.

What is the most important technology.

Where do you think the industry is headed.

Where are you going to be investing.

What are you investing in now.

And so these are some of the things we asked

about everything from email

marketing automation to wearables

live streaming video

and here's some of the things that we learned from

you guys.

We learned that some of the most popular

tech people are currently using our

e-mail automation text

automation

and social media scheduling tools.

So social media is hard to keep up

with these scheduling tools can help

know kind of keep that a little bit

more manageable for your studio.

We also learned that people in 2019

are planning to invest in those social

media scheduling tools

things like live chat which can help

engage customers on your Web site

and on your social media

streaming and pre-recorded videos

something people were very interested in

and then also chat box.

What was interesting is that we also learned

that there's a portion of you that think

chat bots are just hype so

we'll have to see where the industry goes.

That's all we have for you guys today.

If you want to chat.

And. I'd love to watch them.

Weeks on Wired.

And.

Tell everybody

there's so many delightful things

about Bauld it's impossible to

list but one of the most delightful things

is the chance to interact directly both

your opportunity to interact directly

with the MINDBODY team people that are

otherwise typically voices

on the phone

or someone writing an email

or a chat response to you.

And our opportunity to interact directly

with you.

And since we started

doing this more than 12

years ago with MINDBODY University.

One thing has come through repetitively

from our customers from you

and that is you understand

how difficult it is to

build a great business.

And it begins with a great team

and I hear over

and over from you.

And you've said it to me this week

wow what an amazing team.

So can we just take a moment

and give a hand to the MINDBODY team.

Thank you. They continue to blow me

away

and I'm incredibly proud of them.

So the other thing that I hear is

the question how did you do this.

How did this happen.

And other than just sheer luck.

I think I have a few thoughts that might be

helpful.

So let's talk about what constitutes a great

business.

Most of what we talk about in MINDBODY

University and here at Bold is

how to make a good business a good business is

where you can provide

experiences to people that

improve their lives.

In which they will pay you money for.

And.

Hopefully more money than it cost

you to deliver it.

And there's a lot more people out there.

And it's a sticky habits.

All the things that they were just talking about.

That's a good business you've got to start there if

you don't have that you're not going to

get all the rest.

How do you make a great business.

Well here's some thoughts on this.

Number one it is about leadership

and every one of you here in this room.

Is a leader.

The minute you decide

I am going to take that leap I'm going to leave

this job I've had.

I'm going to take this large

amount of my net worth

or perhaps see all of my net worth

I may perhaps borrow money from family

and friends.

I may take on debt.

To hang out my shingle.

To help other people lead healthier happier lives

at that moment. You just said I am

a leader.

And understanding the principles of leadership

is absolutely essential.

Number two great businesses

have a purpose greater than themselves.

It's not just about making money.

We need to make money.

Businesses are designed

to make money.

But if that's all it's ever about.

It's not sustainable.

It's empty

and some of the most unhappy professions

in the world are the professions where it

really is just about making a lot

of money.

And perhaps you can

but you find people in those lands of work routinely

depressed

and burned out

and seeking something more.

You guys do the purpose thing in spades.

That's what inspired us.

It's what got Blake

and I to take this flying leap off a cliff.

and embark on this journey.

Third.

This notion that we have to evolve

we have to adapt.

We have to be creative.

Yes free yoga is

a 3000 year old practice.

But the method of delivery has

evolved enormously even over the last

ten years.

Yes. Joseph Palladio is

created Pilate's

and it's a magnificent practice that heals people.

It has changed lives.

And if you want to have a successful

Palladio business you'd better

be evolving and adapting because

people are adapting

and creating all the time

and we could say this about every business year

and you're in the salon industry the spawn

history you're doing one of the

high intensity interval trainings.

This is absolutely essential.

The biggest failure point I see in entrepreneurs

is they get in love

with their own ideas.

Now you need to be in love

with your principles.

But not in love with your ideas.

There's a difference.

Principles are enduring.

Principles are important beliefs

that drive what you're doing.

And principles need to be mirrored in your team.

In alignment around core values.

But the ideas.

You know what I'm going to try this new

intro package

and is going to do this. Yeah try it.

Your business as a laboratory encourage you

to treat it as your own little laboratory

that you can try ideas

and solicit ideas from your team members

and from your customers to tell

you what you should do next

and see what's happening

and what's working out there.

But don't get into in love

with them.

Because the market will speak the truth.

Your customers will speak the truth

and you have to respond to that.

Let's talk about leadership.

So you heard that I was a naval officer as a

nuclear submarine officer stationed on

the SS since 721 us

a Chicago station

and Point Loma about five miles

away over there.

It's an extraordinary experience to

be back here now

and look back and see the scene from

my hotel room of

those navy ships out there.

Deeply emotional for me.

So I existed in the laboratory of leadership

but up Blake I'm getting a hook wardrobe

malfunction here.

I'm going to help you

get your back

and you see.

Wow.

Love you rather.

Yeah.

I mean you can't buy that.

He's been covering my ass

since I was 14 years old.

He got me out of more than a few scrapes.

OK.

All right.

Leadership.

It's essential on there are books written

about this.

And I've existed

in some really intense leadership environments not the least

of which is MINDBODY.

Here are some thoughts on it.

Number one to be an effective

conscious leader you have to know yourself.

What do you stand for.

What do you want your life to be about.

What do you want people to say about you

after you're gone.

If you could write your own epitaph.

What would it be.

I mean Michelle Obama she knows

herself right.

That's what makes her so powerful.

You can tell what she stands

for.

And everyone around her

and now all of us know.

What she's about.

And you got to know this.

It's a lifelong journey.

And in a sense it is never

complete

but there comes a moment.

A magic moment.

When you can get yourself out of the way.

Think about the most impactful

leaders you've ever experienced

in your life.

That teacher that trainer

that coach that Guru.

That adult mentor.

Your parents if you're really lucky.

Think about.

An iconic moment you had

with them like some memory of an interaction

where they said something to

you that changed your life.

That they saw you.

In that moment.

It wasn't about them was it.

It was about you.

You felt completely seeing.

They knew what you had.

They knew they knew what you could offer

to the world. They also knew where you

needed to make some progress

and where you needed to make breakthroughs.

The biggest pitfall I ever see in leaders.

Is when they can't get outside of their own heads.

When it's they're wrapped up in the pain

they have from childhood

and what went wrong

and the person that insulted them yesterday

and the fact that this isn't really where they want

to be in their lives and their frustration

with other people.

And the biggest mistakes I've ever made in my life

as a leader are when I'm wrapped

up in my own head.

So get out of your head be

about them the person in front of you.

Leaders are not here to be

served.

Leaders are servants.

Leaders exists because

groups of people need

leadership.

I mean it's such a simple

and profound point that

team is why we have

a leader.

And there are cases like in software development

there's something called agile scrum where you can have

a self directed team

that works together

and iterates their way to the

outcome.

But in most cases groups

of human beings require leadership.

And it is a it is a service

that you're giving to the people.

I am in service of

every member of the MINDBODY team.

And all of you.

Effective leaders conscious leaders are

by definition of conscious.

What's the opposite of conscious unconscious

unaware of what's happening.

Not picking up on the subtleties the

the visual clues

not curious about why

did this person react in this interesting way

you know.

Wow that was really strange what they just did

a wonder why.

Rather than being triggered by someone cuts

you off on the road you owe them.

That it's. Really in a hurry.

I wonder what's going on

with him.

That's not how I usually react right.

It's it's hard to do.

A crazy enormous energy.

And I don't know how you do that

without actually loving people.

Great leaders love people.

Michelle Obama.

Loves people.

I mean you see this love just pouring out arrests.

It's where she gets this enormous strength

and power.

So.

Let's talk about.

Purpose.

The most effective thing you can do is write a purpose

statement for your business.

Why does this business exist.

And some people would

suggest that you kind of get together

and get a hold working group to do it for

most of your cases.

I think it should be you

the founders and leaders of the business.

Perhaps a few people that have been

key with you on the journey to collaborate

and bounce ideas off us.

But ultimately if you don't know what you stand for

how can the team possibly know that.

So.

This is our purpose at MINDBODY.

We help people lead healthier happier lives

by connecting the world to fitness beauty

and wellness. You've heard this repeatedly

over the last two days.

And we live.

And breathe off of this purpose.

And then you have to have a line going around these core

values.

So at MINDBODY.

We actually have had a set of seven core

values. But recently we

pulled together a team

a group a core values task force to look

at them again

and refresh how they state them.

And actually for the MINDBODY

team members that are here we only recently

actually put this last version out so this is brand

new. These are MINDBODY Karva he's not

saying these should be your core values.

They're just an example of what

an effective core value statement looks like.

Number one.

We are committed to wellness.

We are committed to living the

wellness lifestyle ourselves.

We are committed to improving

the life the wellness of the world

and we are committed to serving you

the wellness industry that is our why

that's our North Star.

Number two.

We're audaciously achieving this

word audacity

and audaciousness this willing

to take some leaps once in a while

to try things that haven't been done before

and commitment to actually achieving

number three.

We are humble.

And helpful.

The pathway to failure is an ego

and arrogance because we shut ourselves

off to growth

and to improving ourselves.

So hopefully you have seen that energy

in every MINDBODY team member you've interacted

with this week.

This inner humbleness.

And this just joy that they

derive by helping people most particularly

you.

Empathy empathy a Surfest

out of this ability to

to feel what other people

are feeling

and to discern

what's going on

with them.

It's a skill some people are really good

at it.

Others need work

but you know what. It's not a it's not a gift.

It's a skill

and we can all become more empathetic.

And lastly consciously

evolving. It's used to say continuously

evolving and yes we've pretty much been continuously

evolving.

We wanted to emphasize that this

is a conscious effort.

So these are our five core values

at MINDBODY.

Everything about us your core values

determine who you hire.

You may have the most talented teacher

in the world sitting in front of you.

But her core values don't align

with you.

She should not be on your team.

It can cause enormous friction

and damage in the organization.

And as a leader you have to make those calls

and you get someone on the team where you Mistick his interviews

sometimes you can miss it

and you've got a value misalignment right.

You got to make the hard call because you know

what.

It's not their aspiration to be an organization

where there's friction where they're causing problems

but release them back into the

world so they can go find an organization

that aligns with their values.

Surely that needs to happen sometimes

and it's one of the hardest things we do as leaders is letting

someone go.

So let's talk about leadership

and how we think about it.

We think about leadership in

an element of five Cs

and I learned this directly in

the Navy.

Number one we have these

questions to ask about our leaders.

Number one do you know what you're

doing

because if you don't know what you're doing it's

really scary.

And in the Navy it might

cost me my life

in business.

You know this is hazardous to my livelihood.

That's competence.

Number two.

Well you know what you're doing when

you do the right thing.

Well you do the right thing even if it costs

you personally.

When you do the right thing even if

it's really inconvenient.

And we can fake people out on our character

for a short period of time.

But our true character will come through

and the people that work for you

and around you they will know your character.

And when you demonstrate a high level of

character and integrity.

They will respect you so much more.

Number three.

To care as much about me as you do about yourself.

I think one of the biggest failings I see

in the business world is this lack of caring.

This sense of why expect you to

be loyal to this organization

and give us everything you've got.

And the minute you're no longer any use to us we're going

to discard you.

There's a lack of compassion a lack

of care.

And it's dis.

It's completely

demotivating to people

number before we you get things done.

Leaders are here to remove obstacles now

I'm a science geek.

I love this word. Catalyst a catalyst

is something you add to a solution

and it causes the elements in the solution

to come together to create a reaction

to form a new compound.

And what makes this metaphor really elegant

is that the catalyst remains in

the solution.

It's not in the compound so what do we mean

we mean that if you're the coach on the side of the field

and you see a problem out on the field you don't

run out there and grab the ball

you're sitting back

and you're looking at what's happening you're

identifying the obstacles.

And you're removing those obstacles.

That's what leaders do.

And lastly but not least courage.

Do you have the courage to speak truth

to authority at MINDBODY.

We want an atmosphere we foster

an atmosphere where anyone can

say what they truly believe to anyone

and most importantly me

and I have Frontline team members that will come

to me

or or who will write me emails

and say this is what's wrong.

This is what's bothering you right now.

We love that.

We love that.

MINDBODY It takes courage it takes real

guts and backbone to do that.

And wow that's amazing.

There's a flipside of courage the courage

to take responsibility

and to be accountable for your own performance

and for the performance of your team.

You see leaders who try to defer

responsibility to their teams.

Well you know they screwed up.

Wait a minute. You're leading that team.

You pick that team.

You define the outcome of that team.

You prepared them.

That's your responsibility.

Competence character compassion Kalis

encourage

men.

I can think of somebody who embodies

those kind of values.

As Billie Jean once said we

should never ever underestimate

the human skin.

Chat with Mr Nitin Gadkari | Electric Vehicles & Alternative Fuels - Duration: 11:37.

Hi guys! We are here to meet

the transport minister Mr Nitin Gadkari from central Govt

you know about him obviously

He has been very active promoting EV's

He has agreed to talk to us and

We will talk to him about EV's and

and his vision for EV's and

and mobility.

We really appreciate this opportunity to be with you today

and talk to you about electric vehicles

Mr Gadkari - Does your app have fast charging stations?

Kedar - There are fast charging stations too!

We should have latest technology of fast charging!

Mr Gadkari - What is the time for charging an electric bus?

Kedar- It will depend on the battery of the bus

We have a 120 kW DC fast charger

So maybe 2 and half hours to fully charge an e-Bus

Mr Gadkari - We have to reduce that time!

In Nagpur, we have 20 DC charging stations!

PluginIndia has a Youtube channel with around a million views*

Our viewers would love to know

what is your vision for mobility in the coming 5 to 10 years?

you have talked about this in the press

but it would be great to hear from you first hand!

We are facing economic crisis

because of oil imports...

we are also facing a big problem of air pollution

The country needs a policy to substitute these imports

which is cost effective, pollution free and indigenous

That is the reason, our government decided to give highest

backing for alternative fuel.

Electric is an option

We are coal surplus and electric surplus

it is a remarkable thing for the social

point of view

It is going to create more employment potential

The pollution is a big concern because of Diesel and Petrol

so the government has decided to give

priority to alternatives like - Ethanol, Methanol

Bio Deisel, Bio CNG and Electric

Electric Mobility today is already ready

We have Electric Bikes, e-Riskshaws

Electric car and Electric bus

Just 15 days before, Pune corporation has

floated tender to purchase 150 e-Buses!

In Mumbai , we already have e-Buses!

In Nagpur, we have 35 buses

from Scania, AC buses running on BIO ethanol

Now our department has taken a decision

to start projecting Mumbai, Pune and Guwahati

where we will run buses on Methanol

Methanol from Coal

In Mumbai - many companies

are already manufacturing Methanol

Same time in Guwahati

The Assam petroleum has capacity to making Methanol

100 tons per day!

They want to export Methanol from Guwahati

to Bangladesh!

So we will have pilot projects in Mumbai, Pune and Guwahati

and Navi Mumbai where

10 buses will run on Methanol!

Methanol is Rs 22 per liter and

Diesel is more than Rs 65 per liter. Ethanol is Rs 55 per liter.

But at the same time conversion from waste to wealth is important!

In Ganga river area, from my own ministry

we have 115 bio digesters

From Bio Digester , we can get Methane!

We can extract BIO CNG from Methane

We can run buses on BIO CNG!

Even from Wheat straw, Rice Straw and others

we can make ethanol

we can make ethanol from Molasses

from Corn and now municipal waste

So conversion of waste into wealth is the

future of the country!

There is huge potential, there is economic viability

in solid waste management and liquid waste management

My feeling is that the country has got potential of

5 Lakh Crore economy for Solid and Liquid waste

Now Solar and Wind Power is available

there is no problem as far as power is concerned

import substitute, cost effective and pollution free

e-Scooters, e-Rickshaws, e-Bus

electric cars are really the

future for the country!

Petrol cost per liter is Rs 85 , Diesel is Rs 65

Rs 52 for Ethanol = Rs 10 of electricity (To travel equivalent distance!)

Electricity is most cost effective and pollution free!

At the same time our government has taken decision to

give priority for public transport on electricity

The ropeway, cable cars

in the hill areas also will help

the environment of this country.

At the same time, we have to save imports

and pollution is a big concern

We are also planning for future

to create electric highways!

We are creating a highway from Delhi to Mumbai

which will reduce the distance by 120 km

more than 44,000 CR from

Mumbai to Vadodara. Next month we will start

Delhi to Jaipur

And it is a new grid alignment

I'am trying but it is not confirmed

We make it an electric highway

where we can take our trucks on electric

So Electric is an alternative for us

Methanol is from Coal

From Methanol we can make Gas

In USA, they are adding 20% Gas in LPG

We can reduce cost of Gas Cylinder used for cooking

by atleast Rs 100 per cylinder

At the same time it is an import substitute, cost effective and pollution free

and indigenous, creating employment potential

in the country. We are working on

diversification in Agriculture, Energy and Power sector

Today we have taken lot of decisions

I feel that day will come when there is NO imports!

We are going to increase our own capacity

our own capacity of production for Crude oil

30% indigenous and 70% import

the aim is to get upto 50% production of crude in the country

and 50% of Bio Fuel

Ethanol, Methanol, Bio CNG and Electric

I feel this is the future!

You dont need any program

When it is cheaper, pollution free, cost effective

People will buy. Now we have Bajaj,

TVS, Hero

are manufacturing electric bikes

We have taken a very good decision

that e-Autos and e-Rickshaws

or bio fuel auto rickshaw, bike and bus

will be free from permits.

They wont need license.

I'am also planning to start a two wheeler as a taxi!

Like OLA and Uber. There will be electric meter

where in rural areas

people will call the guy and he will pick up people from homes

with a helmet to the bus stop

So it can create employment potential in rural and agriculture sector

Kedar - Can it be done in Mumbai?

Mr Gadkari - We will not allow this in Mumbai!

As some areas have also

banned auto rickshaws

2nd and 3rd tier cities

in rural areas

at the Nagar Parishad level, we can do it!

Kedar : Great! You just mentioned

about this array of fuels

There was news reports that by 2030, all vehicles will be electric. Is that off now?

Mr Gadkari - This is nor a proper

thing to be discussed

I will ask you a question. you have a petrol car, your bill is Rs 6000

Now if your bill comes to Rs 1000

you are going to purchase electric car!

you dont need marketing plan or subsidy.

The GST on

petrol and diesel car is 48%

GST on electric and bio fuel is 12%

people are going to go for electric or bio fuel!

they have to save money and pollution

you dont need to make any plan for that !

Because the economics is there!

For example the e-Auto or e-Rickshaw the income of

the owner will be increased by 2 times

Kedar - How is this fitting into

make in India

for example, we still don't have a plan that manufacturers

battery cells. Are there steps towards that?

There is an issue with Lithium-Ion battery

ISRO has the technology to create cells and

the director was telling me

that 20 Indian companies purchased that technology.

In the whole world

the battery management system

the battery chemistries

every day there are lots of changes.

when number is more, price will be less

Day by day the cost of Lithium battery is coming down

but India needs to manufacture

Lithium-Ion battery in the country. That is the need of the hour

As it should be indigenous,

it will be a great thing for the country!

Thank you so much!

We had a good chat

with Mr Nitin Gadkari

we were really impressed with his command over facts

his knowledge

of costs and economics involved.

Definitely it is going to be in direction of

environmentally friendly fuels and

reducing import also seems to be a priority

Another thing we noticed was

the policies were

designed with an objective in mind

of moving to EV's

offer subsidies and drive demand that way

But now the policies seem to be designed

keeping multiple objectives in Mind

like job creation, steady transition

The policies are going to be

subtle changes

that support the economics and eventually

and catalyze this transition

It was a great chat and

we came out with some good information

So what do you think?

Please share your thoughts in the comment section below

we would love to hear from you!

Are Your Dreams Unrealistic? - Duration: 16:00.

Hi! Today from Hawaii, from the paradise-like island of Kauai called the Garden Island.

Today I will tell you about dreams, about dreams of your childhood, about nurturing your dreams and about making them happen.

So, stay with me till the end of this video. There will be a contest and something to win.

[Music]

The dreams. Everybody of us have dreams in their childhood but with time many of us lose their dreams. They become grounded. They become realistic.

And they stop pursuing their dreams. Maybe they listen to naysayers who discourage them from following the dreams.

They ridicule them and people give up on their dreams or let's say, become realistic and become limited in their lives.

And I want to tell you about 2 stories today. One personal story of me and one billionaire story to make my point.

Let's start with Lars Windhorst. Lars Windhorst is a billionaire friend of mine. He is a born German. He lives in London.

And has an investment company Sapinda with about 5 billion dollars under management and they invest in energy, they invest in agriculture

And also provide some financial deals for example for Airlines.

And there was this event in the childhood of Lars, when in kindergarten kids were drawing the world, trees, maybe flowers, mom and dad and the house...

At that time Lars Windhoorst was drawing a container ships with inscription "Windhoorst Containers".

Or he was drawing factories and skyscrapers, for example with an inscription "Windhoorst Tower".

So, he was dreaming of the big industry, of big things, of big real estate. He was always dreaming of doing big things in business.

And of course, he was ridiculed by his friends, maybe even by his teachers for being so unrealistic and for being so outrageously ambitious.

But what happened is he really does it right now. He invests in heavy industry, in like highly capital intensive industries, mining, energy, construction

And all of that became true. He even at 18 years old was involved in building the Windhoorst Tower.

So, the tower from his childhood dreams in Ho Chi Minh City in Saigon in the capital of Vietnam.

He was about to build a 55 level skyscraper but unfortunately he failed in that project

Because he wasn't able to organize financing of that project and the Asian real estate crisis struck.

But he was trying to do that and today he is involved in the big industry, in the big finance. His childhood dreams became true.

He never let people discourage himself from dreaming these dreams and doing stuff to achieve these things.

And Lars is one of the most ambitious, most hardworking and also most outrageously bold people in business I know today.

One of my favorite billionaire friends. Lars, if you're watching this, greetings to you.

And I want to tell you now some of my stories because for me in my chilldhood I was dreaming to study in the United States.

I was born in East-Block country that was isolated at that time. I was born in Poland.

And it was outrageous to dream at that time to study in the States because nobody was travelling, nobody was allowed to travel.

And you couldn't actually just go to the States and study there. Not mentioning the financial aspect of that, to pay for your university and so on...

I remember, in 1997 I finally went for a student exchange to the States. It was almost 20 years ago.

I went for the student exchange and was studying at an American University on the West Coast.

And my mother told an uncle who was a little bit jealous about that and he said something "Yeah, he is gonna go to Honolulu".

Which meant something unrealistic in polish or at that time in Europe; something unexistant or something unreal. "Honolulu!".

It was an ironical statement.

And guess what! I went to the States and I remember taking the spring break and going to Hawaii.

So, that's why I'm telling you this story here from Hawaii. I'm here now on another island Kauai but first time I came to Hawaii was 20 years ago.

And it was on Oahu - the most populated island with the capital of Hawaii which is Honolulu.

So, do you see the irony? He was like joking about me studying in the States like he's gonna go to Honolulu...

Meaning it's a fairy tale, it's unreal, it's not true. And then I went actually to Honolulu in my spring break.

And I remember sending him a postcard and it was kind of fulfilling to send him this postcard.

And to show him that in life much more is possible that you may dream of or that you may assume.

So, for him Honolulu was a completely unrealistic goal to go there. It was somewhere at the end of the world.

Something legendary that nobody was to or nobody had seen from the perspective of Eastern Block.

But I went there and I sent him a postcard. So, I showed it to him that in reality it was possible and it wasn't a joke at all.

It was kind of irony of fate that I was able to turn his joke into a real event.

It's a just a small illustration that you should dream and the bigger your dreams, the better.

And in today's world much more is possible that even 10, 20, 30, 50 years ago.

And people achieved great things in history and today you have even greater chance of achieving wonderful things.

You see it's raining a little. It's like always every couple of hours. 5-10 minutes of rain.

Behind me, by the way, it's foggy but there are some mountains on this Kauai Island.

And these mountains are one of the most humid, one of the wettest spots on the planet.

So, they had a record rainfall in April this year. The record in the history of the United States.

In just one day, in 24 hours 50 inches of rain fell. 50 inches in 24 hours!

It's like... you would need for that 2 years in LA, for example. For that rainfall. 2 years in LA. Here - 24 hours. In these mountains behind me.

So, really wet place. A paradise island. Here the vegetation is amazing and also the animal world. The birds and the little lizards. Wonderful.

And you can see Hanalei Bay behind me. Also a paradise beach on Hawaii.

So, I want to encourage you to dream big, to have big dreams. Never let naysayers discourage you from dreaming these dreams.

For taking effort to realize these dreams and I want to invite you to really do something about reaching your dreams.

I want also to invite you to leave a comment, to tell me what are your big dreams.

What is your big dream that you have been dreaming since your childhood. What are the things you had to endure?

Maybe the ridicule you had to endure from others? Maybe some statements other said about what you dream about? About what you want to achieve in your life?

And maybe also what you did already to achieve these dreams? To go after these dreams?

So, share your perspective, share your opinons, share your experiences!
