The Linux Mint team did it again.
Although Linux Mint version 19.1 is a marginal upgrade, it brings many new features which
are worth upgrading.
Let's have a look Linux Mint 19.1.
Panel layout
There is a new panel layout.
The new panel now has icons-only style in the task bar.
If you open several instances of the same app, they will be grouped together.
As I showed in one of my previous videos, this panel could be easily enabled before
with Icing Task Manager extension.
I also said I wished this taskbar was the default in Linux Mint.
Now, it is!
Linux Mint now has icons-only task bar.
This is really great!
You can also go to the setting of this panel and adjust it to your liking.
You can also switch back to the older more traditional panel.
Many thanks to the Linux Mint team for this great work.
I believe many Linux Mint users will like this new panel.
Welcome Screen
The Linux Mint team keeps improving the Linux Mint welcome screen.
The welcome screen has a new look with Xapp sidebar and a headerbar
The first steps will help you to configure your system and start working as fast as possible.
Now, Firewall is listed among first steps.
You can also choose here the panel layout.
Nemo Nemo is now three times faster than before.
Its code was reviewed and optimized, so this file manager is lightning fast, it feels extremely
light and browsing directories is a breeze.
These changes are immediately noticeable.
Thumbnails can be configured depending on the directory you are browsing.
Also, Nemo now uses an XApp preferences window.
Nemo is now able to show file creation times,
but only on ext4 file system without home directory encryption.
Update Manager
The Update Manager is able to list mainline kernels
and to show their support status.
There is also a new button to remove unused kernels.
Software Sources
The Software Sources tool was given a new look.
Similar to the welcome screen, it's now using an Xapp sidebar and a headerbar.
Previously, to simplify the process of bug reports users had to install debug symbols installed, now
support for debug symbols can be enabled with a click of the mouse.
You can also now remove duplicate entries in your repositories in the Maintance tab.
Input Methods
The Language Settings and the input methods
were separated into two separate applications.
The Input Methods tool uses an icon sidebar
and now shows a dedicated page for each supported language.
Clear instructions are provided for each language
to guide you through not only installing support packages
but also selecting the right input method.
XApps improvements
Improvements were made to the look and feel of Xapps.
Thumbnails and page borders more crisp in Xreader
Xed statusbar now indicates whether the document is in tabs or spaces mode
and highlight modes are searchable.
Xapps have better preferences windows now.
Sudo
This is really great change.
Linux Mint keeps getting more and more user friendly.
Now, sudo shows asterisks when you type your password.
This is where many new user got lost because previously
nothing appeared when you typed your password.
Now, you can see that your password is typed.
This also prevents users from typing a password into the wrong window
and sending it online by mistake.
Artwork improvements
There are many new wallppers.
The Mint-Y themes are now available in more colors and have more contrast.
Icons now have better support for both light and dark panels.
Other improvements
There some improvement on NVIDIA cards performance.
Input lag was reduced.
The window manager feels more responsive when moving windows.
Cinnamon 4.0 uses less RAM.
some of the long standing rendering issues are fixed.
Linux Mint 19.1 features Linux kernel 4.15
and an Ubuntu 18.04 package base.
Linux Mint 19.1 will receive security updates until 2023.

7 Interesting Facts About LIGHTSABERS You May Not Know - Duration: 4:01.
Hey everybody and welcome to Leia's Lair.
In this episode, I will be going over 7 interesting facts you might not know about lightsabers.

Number 1: Each Jedi Youngling was responsible for making their first lightsaber
During a right of passage called the "Gathering", Jedi Younglings would travel with their master
to the crystal caves on the planet Ilum.
Here they would undergo various trials to test their bravery and their compassion.
If they passed the trials, they would find a kyber crystal attuned to their Force presence.
They would use this crystal in the construction of their first lightsaber.
Number 2: The color depended on the crystal inside
The colors come from Kyber crystals.
The crystal is at the core of the lightsaber, and the color of the crystal determines the
color of the saber.
The crystals start out as colorless until they are found by a Jedi Youngling.
The youngling's personality, as well as the will of the Force, will eventually determine
the color of the lightsaber.
Number 3: They can change color
Although not an easy process to undertake, powerful Jedi can actually change the color
of certain lightsabers.
For instance, red lightsabers can be changed to white.
A great example of this is in Star Wars Rebels, when Ahsoka Tano purifies two red lightsabers,
once wielded by an Inquisitor, changing them to white.
Number 4: Cutting off someone's hand with a lightsaber is actually a fighting technique
This technique is called Cho Mai, and it is the technique of cutting off the weapon wielding
hand of an opponent.
Luckily, due to the sterility of a lightsaber cut, this technique was not fatal, and oftentimes
the individual could be fit with a prosthetic hand.
Cho Sun is a similar technique to Cho Mai except it involves removing the entire arm.
Number 5: You didn't need to be force sensitive to wield a lightsaber
Not all who wielded lightsabers had Force powers.
There was a specific style of lightsaber, called a lightfoil, that was constructed by
non-force sensitive individuals, usually of noble birth.
These weapons were smaller and more delicate than normal lightsabers, and were often used
for dueling.
Number 6: They cannot cut through everything.
That's right, there are actually lightsaber resistant materials.
These materials are very few and they are often used to make armor.
An example of such an a material is Cortosis.
In its original state, this material actually had the ability to deactivate lightsabers.
Another example is Phrik, which was an expensive metallic compound that would withstand the
strike of a lightsaber.
Number 7: They originally ran on battery packs
These were the original form of lightsaber and were called protosabers.
Similar to the later lightsabers, this version still had a crystal inside the hilt and an
emitted blade.
The main difference was this protosaber was connected to a powerpack via a cable.
Because of this connection, the lightsaber was not very versatile.
It had limited operational time and mobility.

my Amazon echo so we've got the Amazon echo here I believe this is the second
generation and we've got the Amazon echo dot here which is the third generation
so I thought I'd do a dual unboxing of them so first of all we're gonna start
with the echo dots so let's move this out the way so the echo dots a very
similar sort of technology inside this one that has a lot more power and
performance compared to this one but it's nice to have this one around so you
can get music in different rooms depending where you are if you need to
definitely ask Alexa something you can do so this is the echo dots it's the
third generation so they've had three different generations now what is great
this comes in heather gray so it looks really nice in the gray style and it can
come in other colors so there is charcoal or sandstone there is actually
more choices for the echo so it depends what you want so on Alison UK it costs
$29.99 to improve sound and design compared to previous models very much so
powerful Alexa built in to help answer your request again a lot of these are
going to be similar for both can stream music with a range of media outlets
depending on subscriptions as well so please be notes of that you can call or
message anyone with echo devices so that is
through the Alexa app and you can drop into other rooms so that's going to be
cool actually can test that out so you can drop into a room and saying oh

the side here we've got Alexa voice service you got Bluetooth and you've got
Wi-Fi so the key thing with this one is you've got an audio line-in as well so
let's get this one unbox and see what they both look like together again you
have a tab just at the top here so my question of the day is do you have an
Alexa or do you have a Google home or do you have Apple home pod if you have all
three nice one I'm actually really pleased with that I like people that
have all three I think it's best to have all three because then you get the best
of everything not everyone can afford it so I understand that but if you have all
three you get the best ability so at the moment I have two out of three so there
is the echo this is considerably smaller than the first generation but is
apparently more powerful again you're gonna find a UK three-pin plug and we
have echo or echo then finally you can ask a lexer and this shows you all this
different skills that you can ask collector and what your echo can
actually do that have the grey looks really nice I like that adds style and
sophistication to your house Allison I wish that wasn't there I wish you didn't
see Amazon on it that's okay so don't let the cameras

out here so you can use an audio out for other devices if you so wish to that's
nice to see so it's not on the box and I can't find it in the description as well
when it's reading through so again the echo dot is going to be very similar
this one has four microphone dots again and you have the same buttons again
you've got a nice heavy feel it has a nice rubberized base here and then on
the back here you have your audio and then you have your power so notice with
this one it don't actually have Amazon written on it so they put it on the echo
but not the dots and I wish it wasn't on there but the question also I want to
ask is did you get one of these for Christmas and was you excited to receive
one I love receiving technology gifts but they are expensive so that's why I
mainly treat myself then I either keep them or sell them but it's nice to have
an upgrade to audio systems around the house and improving the smart time so
let's get these connected and then we're gonna switch over and show you the Alexa
app and setting up both of these as well and go through any problems that you may

to help move it over to my iPhone now or you could use the Google Play Store you
need to go into the iOS App Store here and download Amazon Alexa this is how
you can set up your devices so what we're gonna do is open and then what
you'll need to do is log in with your Amazon account or create one to use
these devices and then connect it up to your device here so going down here to
the bottom is device list so I've already got one device there and we're
gonna connect these two up now then we're gonna set them up as well together
you're gonna see the halo of Lights hello your Amazon echo is ready for
setup just follow the instructions in your Alexa app hello to continue
download the Alexa app so we're gonna hit the plus button here in the top
corner so it says add device that we're gonna add device and we're gonna add an
Amazon echo it's echo so begin echo set up it needs
us now to go into settings Wi-Fi network so what I need to do is go into settings
here we're going to go into Wi-Fi and then you're gonna see Amazon here so one
of them is going to be the echo and one of them is going to be the dots or would
try this one first of all you've connected to echo go ahead and finish
the setup in your Alexa app so go back to your application so continue so then
it's going to ask you to select your Wi-Fi network here - mine's the top one
and this means it's going to be set up on your network then and connect to
other devices as well it's all set up and ready to go so we're gonna hit
continue so the same about the speaker so we can connect a cable connect via
bluetooth or just use a speaker built inside so where is your echo and moment
is in a bedroom I'm gonna hit continue here and then they have a video here
just demonstrating what it can do so I actually paused the microphone here I've
actually turn off the microphone that is white and red - otherwise if so now like
so it was going to go off all the time - press it again and then it will be back
live so now we're gonna add our echo dot so we're going to go to the plus sign
here we're gonna add device and it's an Amazon echo and it is an echo dot which
is this one again select our Wi-Fi network your device is ready so use the
built-in speaker again where is it again and you can change and adjust your
settings depending where you are like kitchen we can go in here and change
this if we so wish to but now it's all set up and ready to go the systems are
very easy to use and I recommend that you do use the app all the time here to
change and adjust your settings but also you can have a look on the actual
speakers themselves you've got plus and minus for volume
you've got your mic that moved and again same over here will go red and then go
red as well you've got volume up and down and the ring will fill up the same
on the echo dot and then you have a natural alexa button Alexa is always
growing and getting smarter learning new skills so in the email update I've had
just today it's actually listening the new skills so let me show you what they
are so in my email if I go into my email here you'll get an email you can sign up
for this and it tells you all the new things that Alexa can do so let's go
