Hello!! Hello! It's me, Janette! HAPPY 2019! I hope that you had a wonderful holiday
season and a Happy New Year! In today's video I'm doing a world travel themed
pocket letter and I'm gonna be using this Die-cutting Essentials Special
Edition Box kit. Now this is from my work and there is a Die-cutting Essentials
magazine but there's also a special edition box kit and I fell in love with
this world travel themed box kit. aAnd all of the box kits that my work produces-
they have stamps, they have papers, an embossing folder, a die set..
Sometimes there's extra things like stencils and also an ideas magazine and
the ideas magazine just gives you ideas for projects and inspiration for what
you can make with all of the goodies included in the kit. Now the great thing
about the kit is that it's all coordinated, so the stamps are sized to
the dies and the papers as well. There's like little toppers and embellishments
inside of the paper.. the paper pad and they coordinate with the stamps and the
dies so it's just really helpful, really easy to create something! To create
actually LOTS of projects with your kit and so I was really inspired to create a
pocket mail layout so let's get started! Now for the video I didn't want to do a
lot of die-cutting, so I die cut the little flower embellishments and some of
the toppers in the paper pad with my die with the coordinating dies included
in the kit. And I did that beforehand just to save time on this on the process
video. So the first thing I'm doing is picking out my papers for my base the
base of my layout and I felt like with this paper pad there was two ways that I
could go... There was either like the springtime, summery, bright florals- I
could have gone that route, but there was also some set of papers in here that was
more like muted, kind of autumnal, there were still florals in it, but it was more
like, it's more like, bluish kind of purply and so I wanted to go that route
because I don't know it just felt more wintery to me and it is still winter so
I just wanted something a little bit not so bright! And I hope that makes sense! I
hope I don't sound crazy, maybe I'm crazy I'm not sure but thanks for sticking
around really appreciate it! And so now I'm going to be trimming up my papers , my
base papers to the magic pocket mail layout number. So all the cards of a pocket
letter consist of nine ATC sized cards and the magic number for the ATC sized
card is two and a half inches by three and a half inches. So you want to trim up
your rectangles to that size and I'm going to do a nine pocket layout and so
I'm trimming out nine rectangles. I always want to say squares even though
they're clearly not squares! So I'm gonna start decorating from the bottom of the
bottom row of my layout. It just seems easier to me and I grabbed this circle
topper that's in the paper pack that's included with the Die-cutting Essentials
special edition box kit and it says, "The Adventure Begins,"
and so I die cut that out with the coordinating circle die that's included
in the kit and I also die-cut a bunch of these little like twiggy, sprig things
from one of the dies included in the kit as well. And I'm just gonna kind of
surround the circle with some sprigs, these white little sprigs, and then add
some of the florals which are also included in the kit and I die cut those
out with the coordinating dies. Now when I'm working on a nine card layout it's
easiest for me to just pick out little odds and ends, so like this strip of
paper here, and just kind of put it there on the particular, like on a particular
card just kind of as a placeholder I end up moving and rearranging things a lot
but I don't know it just kind of helps, helps it have a like a theme, like a
theme emerges when I place the little odds and ends here and there but
then again you know there's lots of rearranging at least for me lots of
rearranging happens on these layouts. It's a lot of moving this over here
trying this on this corner instead of that corner
and just finding until you find something that that feels well at least
for me that feels balanced to me and then I can move on. Now because these
little cards these ATC size cards are so small they're great a great way to use
up any scraps that you have in your stash and so I was looking through my
scrap box and I really wanted to you know I love using scraps a lot
like junk journal videos and other layouts that I that I do, pocket
letters layouts that I do....They're all very scrappy, so it's a lot of scrap
papers that I just like using them up! It makes me feel like a responsible citizen
of the world and so I had these add navy dark navy blue scraps and I wanted
to use those and I felt that that color really complemented to the rest of the
colors in my layout so now I'm gonna glue everything to my first card and I'm
going to be using two adhesives. I'm going to be using a Prit stick which is
a glue stick and Prit brand is really popular here in the UK! I want to say
it's the equivalent of like Elmer's back in the states and so I'm going to be
using a Prit stick and I'm also gonna be using Cosmic Shimmer Dries Clear glue
which is one of my favorite glues now I'm gonna try to only use the Prit
stick on the papers and the Cosmic Shimmer acrylic glue on the thicker card
stock that I have because the paper in this kit is on the thinner side and if
you use a liquid adhesive it might get... it tends to get lumpy and I don't want
that to happen so that's why I'm using a regular just a regular glue stick and
I'm also going to be using some foam tape squares just to add some depth and
dimension to some of the elements like these little florals here on my card I
felt like they were too flat if I just use a glue stick
so that foam tape really helps them pop and I'm also adding some vellum
throughout... Vellum scraps throughout my layout because I feel like vellum
instantly adds just like a soft, feminine, kind of fresh vibe to my project so
just be using that and again layer so I've layered some vellum on top of this
this one here with the floral on the right and I added that little ephemera
on top and then a little tiny white delicate bow and like I mentioned
earlier I'm all about using up scraps and so I have this strip of yellow
pattern paper in so I'm going to cut it down into two little strips and then
glue them at the bottom of the card and I think that the yellow strips really
complement the little tiny pop, that little hint of yellow in that flower on
that first card so I'm glad when things kind of get.. when they start to come
together and get a little bit matchy-matchy! So now I'm gonna glue
everything down to my vellum and then I'm gonna glue the vellum down to my
card and when you're working with vellum you kind of have to be really strategic
and think about where you're gonna put your adhesive because it tends to show
up it's hard to find an adhesive that doesn't sorry that dries clear on vellum
I had some luck with glue sticks in the States like an Elmer's glue stick for
some reason sometimes they would work I don't know if it was the vellum the type
of paper that I was using or the brand of vellum that I was using but I I swear
that it used to I had an adhesive that would work and and dry clear on vellum
but the ones it's really hard to find one guys and so you would have to be a
little strategic about where you're gonna put your glue your adhesives on
your vellum you have to kind of hide it and mask it behind an embellishment or
you sometimes even just use a stapler like a mini attacher as you're gonna see
in the next video just because it's hard to find an adhesive that dries
clear on vellum I wanted to do a little pattern play on this card on the left
and so I'm grabbing some of these beautiful floral paper and kind of
putting it I'm gonna glue it down and put it on the lower half of my card and
then I'm gonna trim off the excess and then I'm going to grab that original
strip of floral like blue floral pattern paper that I had on there
just like a little placeholder for me and so I'm gonna end up using that and
just add little strips of that right on the center of the card and then that's
gonna leave a almost like a blank space right there right on top so that I can
add a sentiment it just all kind of worked out pretty good now for my
sentiment stamp I'm grabbing one that's included in the stamp set that comes inside of the kit and it says to the world you may be
one person but to one person you may be the world that's adorable and so I'm
going to be stamping that with Archival Ink in a Jet Black and I'm stamping that
on top of my Sizzix as oh this is Sizzix Stampers Secret Weapon
and I will have that link for you below I think that everyone should have a
stamp or secret weapon it just gives you a nice foamy, but firm surface to do your
stamping and I really feel that it gives you helps to give you a clear impression
every time next up I'm going to add this little piece of white ribbon to my card
here and I'm going to be adhering that with some Cosmic Shimmer dries clear
glue and I just wanted to incorporate the white ribbon that I used on that
second card on the right somewhere else on my layout and you'll find me doing
this sort of a balancing trick throughout my layout as I'm working so
if I put like in this case I put a little bit of ribbon on the right card
and so now I'm putting a little bit of ribbon on the left card kind of to
balance it out and I feel it makes my project look more like a whole it makes
it look more cohesive more not unified what's the word cohesive symmetrical
balanced and at least in my head it does next up I'm going to be working on the
center card and I'm cutting out this globe trotter with my scissors and it's
not laziness guys there is a coordinating die that die cuts this out
but I was just I didn't want to grab my die cutting machine because it's really
heavy and I recently hurt my back and it's a little bit sensitive and tender
still so I shouldn't be carrying heavy things and so I'm just cutting you
with some scissors and what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna do like a faux shaker
element here like faux like a faux shaker card I don't have a sewing
machine I have terrible luck with sewing machine so I don't own one and I don't
have a Fuse Tool and so I wanted to do kind of like a vellum shaker effect
without the shake hopes up the shakiness so what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna take a
piece of vellum and then I'm gonna do some faux stitching with my white gel
pen I believe this is a jelly roll pen if it's not jelly roll a secure a jelly
roll pen then it's a uniball pen and if it's not you know bald and it's Pentel
maybe Pentel and Uniball are the same the same brand I'm not sure but yeah
those are some great brands I get some questions about what white ink to use
and I document a deck amend recommend either a white Gelly Roll pen, a Uniball
or a Pentel and I'll have some of those waiting for you below now to
achieve that faux shaker effect I'm just adding a ton of liquid adhesive on my
card and then I'm gonna add my gold sequins on top of that just kind of I
wanted them to look kind of random kind of like they would if they were in a
true shaker card and to pick up my sequins I'm using this tool I've had
this tool forever and I keep forgetting that I have it so it's in my stash
it's in my little caddy my tool caddy but I just always forget to use it and
it's so handy dandy on one side sorry it's called the Silhouette Pick Me Up
tool and I think it's got that I think that's what it said you read that right
I will have this link for you below in case you don't have one but it has a
sticky tip on one side and then on the opposite side an acrylic piece pops out
that has two ends on that and it just it just helps you to so you pick it up you
pick up the sequin with a sticky end and then you release it with the other
little tool a little acrylic tool super handy dandy
it makes picking up gemstones and rhinestones and just little bits and
pieces it makes it so much easier with this tool
so now that I've glued my Globetrotter banner I'm just adding some adhesive on
the back and I'm gonna glue that right on top of the sequins now it's gonna
happen because there's no adhesive on the bottom portion of that vellum kind
of anchoring and pulling it down its gonna end up curling upwards but that's
okay I'm not bothered by it because all this is gonna go inside of a nine pocket
trading card insert and then so it's just gonna get flat at the end but I'm
really happy with how it turned out it kind of does look like a real shaker
card right so duper happy with how that turned out
and for the sake of keeping these videos on the shorter side there will be a part
2 coming soon for this world travel themed pocket letter and yeah just want
