Okay Dixon, while I've got you here, I want to hear what you think of the new
filtering options. It's great what you had to do before was - you had to export
all of the the links, download the whole lot and then use Excel to kind of
manually get rid of them. The new backlinks tab has... we'd already got
sorting - the ability to sort things by different criteria but now
there's a filters button and if you switch on filters there's some great stuff
you just have a whole load of different ways of pooling your backlink data to
any websites. So it allows you to band Trust Flow so you can say, right just
give me Trust Flow links that are between 11 and 20 for example.
or sort of "high whatever" it may be so I take suppose some sort of
banding thing. And that's really useful because a lot of people would
like to really concentrate on links above a certain level or below a certain
level depending on what you're trying to do. So be able to band them it's very very
useful. Same with Citation Flow. The next thing is being able to look at
'link types' so you can just say, "right give me all the redirects". That's great
all the sites are redirecting... or just show me all the ones
that are text links, because actually I'm not interested in the image links...
whatever it may be. Frames I think we're in there as well so
And then the next one - nofollow/dofollow. So you've got the ability to
just say... right I've got all these nofollow links can I go and persuade
them to know dofollow them or whatever. The next one is 'crawl result'. Once you've
got 'link status' so link status has it been. A link is
either live or it's out of our system - deleted - and you can on the
backlinks tab you can have the option to show or hide deleted links and if you
suddenly bring that in you get this all this information about you know what's
going murky in your backlink profile or in somebody else's backlink profile
because there's a link there and then it started to disappear
and if you do that the fresh index you've got a 90 day crawl
cycle so we will keep a link in the fresh index for up to 90 days after it's
been deleted. So once it's being deleted it will stay there but we'll never find it
again because it's not there so unless it sort of returns then it will carry on
in the index for 90 days. After that it's gone it's you know you can find it in
the historic index and find out you know but it it's because the way the
algorithms work a legacy effect is left when a link has gone that you
need to have some kind of memory effect in there. So the fact that we keep it in for
a while but not forever is very very important. Being able to see those
deleted links is great you can see where Google's had problems crawling, where
we've had problems crawling web pages or wherever it may be and so you know being
able to look at those just for that it's really really good. So I love that this
is just on-the-fly and this ability to filter on-the-fly
has been something that has been called for, for a long time in the system and i
love it! The other things that you can do is you
can actually check by keywords. You can say right I want links that contain
the word keyword here in, not only your anchor text, but also in the URL of the
link that's coming in or the title of the link that's coming in. That title is
very important I think because if a page is about online banking it's probably
gonna have the title online banking. So that title of a webpage is what the
the creator of that webpage thought that page should be about. Very useful to
be able to go and find backlinks that contain individual keywords in the title
of those pages right. Okay and we had been talking about agencies and the need
to work at scale. Can you give me any examples of how an agency might use
this sort of feature in that situation? I think the filtering here allows
the agency to target specific campaigns that
they can make into manageable activities over the course of a week or a month or
even a day. So the agency can say to the customer right this week we're going to
concentrate on getting links surrounding this content. So if you've got content
coming out on subject X then you're going to be wanting to get links from
pages on the internet that perhaps talk about subject X - the top ten subject X's
here or whatever it may be. So this will allow you to go into your own sites and
your competitors websites and have a look at their backlink profiles that
contain content from pages that are about subject X, so you can drill
down and start curating a list very very efficiently and if you use
that little cog that's next to the domains then and 'add to bucket'
you can start building up a nice picture of which sites you need to go and
approach to try and get influence around that particular keyword right. If you've
