The world's FASTEST phone charger (SuperVOOC explained) - Duration: 9:01.This is the OPPO Find X.
And I've seen a dozen reviewers get excited about this bezelless screen
or the bonkers motorized camera, but all of that stuff is way too fragile for my clumsy hands.
What I'm excited about... is SuperVOOC.
The fast charging tech that OPPO claims will be two and a half times as fast as anything else
that is on the market right now.
If this actually works as advertised, it could completely change how we use our phones.
So, let's take a closer look.
And thanks to Squarespace for sponsoring this video.
OPPO claims that SuperVOOC gets the Find X with its average sized battery fully charged
in under 35 minutes.
Competitors usually take well over one hour for the same, which really poses 3 questions.
Does SuperVOOC actually work as advertised?
If it does, how the hell is it this fast?
And what are the downsides?
Starting with the first one, I have performed two separate tests.
Comparing charging speeds to the latest flagships once with the screen on
and once with the screen off, you'll see in a second why that is important,
but first, let's talk about chargers.
Each of these phones came with their own fast charger in the box which I used, except for
the iPhone, where I had to buy a separate fast charger from Apple for
98 Euros.
Which, uh, is quite a rip-off if you ask me.
Also, I have the SuperVOOC version of the Find X here, but some markets only get normal
VOOC on this phone, so always check with your local reseller.
Anyway, here are the results.
In the screen off test, the Find X goes from nearly empty to 100% in just 31 minutes, which
is pretty incredible.
The closest competitor is the P20 Pro that takes about 2.5 times as long as the Find X,
and the other three are more or less equal, taking around three and a half times as long to finish.
Quite the difference.
Now, to be fair this chart might be somewhat misleading since battery sizes differ a lot
between these phones, so I measured how much each charger consumes at its peak using a
smart power plug to show you the difference that way, which still shows SuperVOOC as the
clear winner, and I also calculated how many milliamperes each charger pumped into the
phone at its peak.
Again, the winner is pretty clear.
OK, in test number two we set the screen to 50% brightness on each phone to add an extra
source of heat, because OPPO claims that SuperVOOC deals with heat really well, so it can keep
fast charging even with the screen on, while some competitors will have to disable fast
charging in these situations.
And the results kind of show this to be true.
The Find X once again finishes charging in 33 minutes, just a tad slower than before,
surprisingly the P20 Pro seems to be completely unaffected by the screen being on, the iPhone
does OK until 80 % but then slows down dramatically to over 2 hours, and the other two essentially
turn off fast charging completely and take over two and a half hours to finish.
That's more than 5 times as slow as the SuperVOOC did.
Next, let's take a look at temperatures.
The Find X goes up to nearly 38 degrees, but of course it doesn't have to stay there for very long,
the P20 Pro goes a little higher and stays for longer, the iPhone X is over 39 degrees
for more than 40 minutes, which is probably why the phone decided to slow down
its charging so dramatically at one point, and probably also why Apple doesn't include
a fast charger in the box.
Cause that is not healthy.
The other two, well, those were pretty cool because they weren't fast charging at all.
So from all the phones that did fast charge, the Find X is the coolest and has to stay
hot for the shortest amount of time.
Not bad.
Which takes us to question 2: What black magic does OPPO have that the others don't have?
So I've done a lot of research online, I've actually talked to a couple of OPPO engineers
and here are all my findings. You can the really in-depth stuff linked in the description below,
if you really like physics, but if you just wan to see an overview, an oversimplified overview,
then follow along.
Charging speed is measured in watts, which is a product of voltage and current.
The more watts, the faster your phone charges, so if either of these goes up, charging speed
goes up as well.
Whether charging speed is seen as regular or fast depends on who you ask, but for the
sake of this video let's call 5V 2A charging "regular" for now.
That's a very common spec and note for later, 5 Volts is also the voltage of most smartphone batteries.
That's a pretty important detail.
Most standard fast charging solutions like Qualcomm QuickCharge increase speed
by increasing the voltage to 9 Volts, which is indeed faster, but introduces an issue.
Heat.
Because on top of the heat that is generated from charging alone, these solutions also
require the phone to transform the incoming 9 Volt charge down to a 5 Volt charge inside
the phone to match the voltage of the battery.
This causes extra heat, so these phones now have 2 major sources of heat.
More sophisticated chargers like OPPO's VOOC and OnePlus' Dash Charge, which, fun fact,
are the exact same technology just under two different brands, but also Huawei's SuperCharge,
which is what the P20 Pro has, instead increase speeds by increasing the electrical current,
usually to somewhere between 4 to 5 amps, while keeping the voltage at a standard 5V.
The benefit is that not only can they charge faster, at around 20 Watts, the phone
also doesn't have to step down the voltage, so the extra heat isn't generated in the phone.
In other words, these chargers eliminate the second source of heat.
SuperVOOC takes this approach to the next level and here is how
some OPPO engineers explained it to me.
SuperVOOC introduces 10V5A charging.
That's right, 50 Watts.
That's as fast as some laptops charge.
And despite seeming like this is really high voltage charging, it's not.
See the Find X has a special, 10 volt battery with two 5V cells inside.
So when it receives the 10 volt charge, there is no conversion
and through it, no extra heat generation.
This special battery can then output just 5 volts for the phone to use.
So you can essentially think of SuperVOOC as simultaneously VOOC fast charging two separate
batteries and then only using one at a time for the phone.
Again, this is a super dumbed-down explanation and if you want to know all of the details,
check the links, but I hope you get the point.
Okay, on to number 3, the downsides: I can think of two main ones.
The first one being cost: SuperVOOC probably took millions of dollars to develop,
it requires lots of extra components, like 5 different additional security layers, a pretty bulky
charger and a significantly thicker cable than usual, so it adds to the cost of the
device a lot, which is why you only see it on expensive phones,
and replacement chargers will probably also cost a fortune.
Although they will probably still be cheaper than the ones from Apple, sooo ... khm.
Okay, second is safety.
And this is honestly hypothetical downside, but without long term testing, we honestly
have no idea how safe SuperVOOC really is.
OPPO does have 2 pretty solid counter-arguments, specifically that,
No. 1, since SuperVOOC runs cooler than many competitors and does so for
a much shorter period of time, your batteries get damaged less from heat,
and that No. 2 since it's essentially the same tech as their previous
generation VOOC charger, which sold in about 90 million phones without any major safety issues,
it should be just as safe... And uh, sounds good to meee, but you know, I'm not an engineer,
so I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
Now, the Find X is like a trophy.
It looks incredible the technology that is built into it is incredible, but ultimately for a person like me,
who drops his phone all the time, this just isn't a very practical option.
I mean, it's so slippery, it slid off a perfectly flat surface four times since I've had it,
plus even if you put a case on it, it doesn't cover the top two corners.
Now that's a phone that just calls for a TechAltar Ungrip if I've ever seen one.
But shameless merch-promotion aside, SuperVOOC will probably come to
much less slippery OPPO phones in the future and also OnePlus phones at some point,
and all of that combined really has me excited.
But maybe you disagree?
There's a poll in the description below where you can let me know how you feel about the Find X.

Napoleonic Wars: Siege of Zaragoza (1808) - Peninsular War DOCUMENTARY - Duration: 12:14.War rages across Iberia.
Napoleon Bonaparte, Emperor of the French had occupied Portugal and placed his brother
Joseph on the throne of Spain, but many in both countries refused to bend the knee to
the French.
In the spring of 1808, they rebelled.
The insurgents formed militias and guerilla bands, and regulars from the Spanish and Portuguese
armies mutinied against their French masters.
Napoleon rallied his armies to crush the uprising.
The Peninsular War had begun.
Spain in 1808 was the scene of a chaotic struggle.
Events had moved so quickly that neither side was prepared for total war.
The Spanish rushed to unify the local rebellions and to train their raw recruits and inexperienced
officers into armies capable of challenging the greatest military on earth.
France had 90,000 troops in Spain, but they were spread out all over the country, and
many were fresh conscripts, not much better-trained than the Spanish rebels.
Napoleon tried to manage the war in Iberia from afar, but day-to-day command fell to
his friend and brother-in-law, Marshal Joachim Murat.
Murat was brave, tough, and charismatic, but he was unimaginative and preferred brute force
to subtlety.
His aggressive methods turned people against Joseph Bonaparte's regime and exposed his
men to violent reprisals from Spanish guerrillas.
Murat decided on a bold strategy: rather than falling back to his strongholds to concentrate
and organize his forces, the French would remain spread-out and immediately set about
suppressing the rebellion in every corner of Spain.
Napoleon agreed.
They were taking a terrible risk by spreading their forces so thin.
The French had profoundly underestimated the size and strength of the uprising.
Securing Zaragoza was Murat's main priority-- it was the key to his main lines of communication
back to France.
He immediately dispatched 4,000 men under General Charles Lefèbvre-Desnoëttes to seize
the city.
Lefèbvre-Desnoëttes pushed his men as hard as he could, but the march to Zaragoza proved
arduous.
The French were harassed by guerrillas, and although Lefèbvre-Desnoëttes won all of
these engagements easily, they slowed him down, and by the time the French arrived at
the gates of Zaragoza on June 15th, the Spanish had assembled a garrison of over six thousand
men, outnumbering the attackers.
Spanish forces in the area were led by General José de Palafox, an energetic career military
officer.
Palafox had begun his campaign with only 500 regulars, but thousands of Spaniards flocked
to his banners.
Although they outnumbered the French, Palafox was wary of taking his untrained, ill-equipped
militia out from the safety of Zaragoza's walls, so he prepared his defenses.
The people of Zaragoza helped by building improvised barricades and even taking up arms
to join the defenders.
Zaragoza had a formidable defensive position: with the river Ebro on one side, and massive
medieval city walls on the other three.
Upon arriving at the city, Lefèbvre-Desnoëttes ordered an immediate assault.
He did not believe the rag-tag Spanish militias were capable of serious resistance.
He divided his troops into three columns and ordered an attack on the three main gates.
The assault began with a cavalry charge, led by the Polish lancers- elite soldiers, who
saw Napoleon as the liberator of their homeland.
The lancers pushed aside the Spanish units guarding the gate and galloped into Zaragoza.
But rather than panicking, the Spanish poured musket fire onto the horsemen from all sides.
The fire was so intense that the French infantry was unable to follow into the gap created
by the charge.
Once inside the city, the Polish lancers found they had nowhere to go-- every street was
barricaded, and more Spanish defenders waited in every alley, and behind every door and
window.
Very few of the Poles made it out alive.
It was a similar story at the other two gates into Zaragoza: the French breached the walls,
but once inside, found even more fierce resistance.
Every one of the city's narrow, winding medieval streets had been barricaded by the
Spanish, and with nowhere to advance, the French were vulnerable to counter-attack,
and soon forced out.
In disbelief, Lefèbvre-Desnoëttes ordered his men renew the assault.
Once again, the French broke through the outer walls, but once again, they found it impossible
to advance into the heart of the city, and were pushed out by Spanish counter-attacks.
Lefèbvre-Desnoëttes had no choice but to admit failure.
The French lost roughly 700 men, compared to only about 300 Spaniards.
French reinforcements arrived outside the city in the coming days and weeks, and a more
senior French officer took command-- General Jean-Antoine Verdier.
The new commander spent weeks methodically demolishing the walls of Zaragoza with artillery.
On July 1st, Verdier decided Zaragoza was ripe for another assault.
The French stormed the battered walls of the city once again, this time in a better-coordinated
attack at six different points.
The fighting was fierce, but Spanish morale remained high.
At a crucial point in the battle, an entire Spanish artillery crew fell wounded.
A young woman named Agustina de Aragón rushed forward to fire their cannon at the advancing
French.
Her bravery made her an icon of the anti-French resistance, and earned her a commission as
second lieutenant of artillery-- making her the only female officer of the war.
The French were able to penetrate the walls of Zaragoza, but found it impossible to advance.
After a day of brutal close combat, they were pushed out of the city.
The French lost roughly five hundred men.
General Verdier gave up any hope of a quick victory, and began preparations for a siege
-- entrenchments to choke off the lines of supply into the city, and batteries for heavy
artillery.
The Spanish fought tenaciously to keep the supply routes into the city open, but by July
24th, Zaragoza was sealed off.
The French stepped up their bombardment.
Three large gaps had been blown into the walls, and on the 4th of August, Verdier ordered
his men into the city once again.
This time, the assault made slow but steady progress.
The French had to fight for every street, but by the afternoon, they controlled half
of Zaragoza.
General Verdier sent Palafox a message under a flag of truce; it was a simple, one-word
question: "Surrender?"
Palafox responded with a short message of his own: "war to the death."
The vicious house-to-house fighting continued.
General Verdier himself was wounded.
Finally, by the early evening, the French were exhausted.
The Spanish counter-attacked and regained some ground.
The two sides passed an uneasy night in their respective sections of the city.
Verdier had lost nearly two thousand men-- twenty percent of the attacking force.
Spanish casualties were high as well.
Both sides were exhausted and depleted from the epic combat and found it nearly impossible
to advance through the fortified ruins of the city.
Street battles continued, but as Zaragoza burned, events were ramping up elsewhere.
The Andalucia region of southern Spain was a major rebel stronghold.
Napoleon dispatched General Pierre Dupont to re-assert French control over the area.
Dupont was a rising star, only recently promoted to general.
Napoleon promised him a noble title and a promotion to marshal if Andalucia was subdued.
This was a huge task for such an untested commander, and he was not given much to accomplish
it.
The core of his 13,000-man force was not even French, but Swiss.
These were experienced regular soldiers, but they had been forced into the Imperial army
under duress, so their loyalty was dubious.
The rest of Dupont's force were mostly raw recruits who had never seen action.
Still, Dupont had success in the initial stage of his campaign.
On June 7th, he seized the strategically-important city of Córdoba.
However, as the French advanced, Dupont neglected to garrison any troops in his rear.
This would cost him dearly.
The countryside behind Dupont's army began to rise in rebellion.
Peasants formed guerrilla bands that attacked French messengers and supply convoys.
If the General did not act quickly, he would be cut off.
Dupont did not realize the seriousness of his situation for several days, until finally,
the couriers from headquarters stopped arriving-- the rebels had taken control of the last road
between Córdoba and Madrid.
Dupont finally evacuated Córdoba on June 16th, but moved with no urgency, allowing
his men to keep any captured loot, which slowed their movements to a crawl.
General Dupont managed to re-establish contact with Madrid, and received reinforcements,
bringing his total strength to around 20,000 men.
His army was still in a vulnerable position, separated from Madrid by the Sierra Morena
mountains and the Guadalquivir River.
By now, a Spanish army of around 31,000 men arrived in the area, under the command of
General Francisco Javier Castaños.
Still, Dupont was not ordered to retreat, and he began to set up defensive positions.
The Battle of Bailen and the conclusion of the Siege of Zaragoza were coming and they
would change the situation in Europe and the fates of both the Napoleonic and Peninsular
Wars forever.
The eyes of all the monarchs of the Old World were fixed on Spain...

Gateway Of Christianity | Cauvery736 | Cauvery History | Episode - 09 - Duration: 8:48.Even before Danes arrived, Christianity found its root in India
The Portuguese started Catholic
And the Dutch started Protestant in Tharangambadi
But, only after Lutheran from German stayed and began a mission,
Tharangambadi was proudly known as the 'Gateway of Christianity.'
It was Frederick IV, the king of Denmark, who was responsible in bringing Danes to Tharangambadi
He wanted to send his staff to Tharangambadi, where he held power
But Danish retainers showed no interest to come to India
Moreover, Bishop feared that the Danish retainers were luxury lovers and alcoholics, writes Christian historian E. Arno Legman
So, the Danish archbishop seeks help from his German friends
They were Henry Plutschau , Bartholomäus Ziegenbalg who were chosen and sent
They were both Germans by birth
They pursued their studies at Hailey University
They depart from Hailey and reach Copenhagen
They get orders from the King and embark to India on November 30, 1705
The ship arrives to Tharangampadi on 9th July, 1706
Almost 221 days of journey
Tharangambadi harbor was not deep enough to occupy large ships,
So it was usual to dock ships four miles away, and take a boat and fin to reach the shore
Ziegenbalg and Plutschau get on a boat
They get shocked seeing Danes whip the rowers to speed off
When questioned, the officer negligently says they are localites
As they reach the shore, no one comes to receive them
As per the king's order, they meet Tharangambadi's governor with a letter
Governor tells them to work as a teacher in a school there
Ziegenbalg and his friend refuse the offer
As per German Lutheran's order, except missionary, they say they can't work anywhere
Back then, all the christians there were Europeans
The localites were not Christians
They did not abide to Christian rules
Zeigenbalg says they were the only hindrance for the localites from changing their religion
A tamilian who got converted to Christianity, wrote Malabar letters,
In which he has mentioned that Europeans there never followed Ten Commandments
They get drunk and fight
They were more focused over Gambling and other entertainment
Wealthy people don't spend for charity or public needs
They don't care about poor people in the society, his letter reads
The European Christians treated other religious people like dogs and hurt them, writes Zeigenbalg
As a result, Zeigenbalg and Plutschau, began working having the slaves as their focus
Caste was an obstacle for conversion
Those who converted to Christianity, no matter what caste they belonged
They were treated as low-class people, and were excluded from the society
It was the time when matchbox wasn't invented
It was impossible to ignite stove without fire
Taking water from public well was not allowed
Those who converted to Christianity, were considered dead
It was usual for the families to do final rituals
The Tanjore system of slavery was helpful to them
In 1715, few slaves were bought, and a Christian congregation was established
They were called Hawakes Christians
Zeigenbalg buys children sold by parents out of poverty
Converting all the localites to Christianity
And to make Christianity last, they select few and make them preachers
The first tamil preacher was appointed on 28 May, 1707
All the Priests in Tharangambadi were Europeans
In 1718, Aarumugam, known as, Aaron, the son of Sokkanadipillai from Kadalur was appointed as a Pastor
The German press reported it to be the first black pastor appointed in the world
The first school in Tharangambadi was started on December 28, 1707
Food, clothing, shelter were offered for free to the students
From 6 am to 11 pm, religious studies
In between the session, at 8 am, they offer snacks
From 11 pm to 12 pm, it's lunch
From 12 pm to 1 pm, it's resting period
From 3 pm to 4 pm, Mathematics
And Catechism up again, and then fitness and games
Astronomy was taught at night
Soon after, at 9 o'clock, everyone must get to sleep
Tamil and herbal medicine were also taught
Apart from Bible, Zeigenbalg has also written other religious books and booklets like Saiva, Vaishnava, etc
Europe's climate and change in food bothered Zeigenbalg
During the last 13 years of his life, he introduced Tamil language to Germans
And devoted his time in helping students with their education
His effort continues to this day
On February 23, 1719, Zeigenbalg became physically weak and passed away
His body was buried in the new Jerusalem church he founded
This is the first Protestant church built in India
Its foundation was laid on February 9, 1717
The Dutch administration in Nagapattinam gifted poles, glass and lead
They collected oyster-shells from the seashore and made cement out of its ash
With 50 assistants, 16 masons, 8 carpenters, 6 blacksmiths together built the church
The rainy season began on September 9th
And all the works were suspended except for roofing
In July 1718, the work was started again
The palm trees and wooden planks arrived
The New Jerusalem Temple was completed with a vast roof
The cross on top of the roof has Frederick IV's first letter inscribed
This church is in the shape of a cross
With 90 feet length and 30 feet width, the church was ordained on 17th October, 1718
As it's been over 300 years, the arrangements for the celebration has been going on at present
