♪ What's the big question ♪
-So as I'm sure you know, today is October 31st,
better known as Halloween.
That name, of course being a contraction of All Hallows Eve
or Hallows evening, the harvest time holiday
covered in cobwebs and dedicated
to celebrating all things ghoulish,
creepy, scary, hairy, kooky,
spooky and all together ooky.
During which children and adults alike dress to startle,
frighten and petrify in any number of costumes.
Be they classic monsters like vampire, mummy,
witch, zombie obviously, wicked witch,
well-mannered witch, vampire once again,
wolfman, goof clown,
goose down, or new non-monster favorites like the Dark Voyager
from mobile game sensation "Fortnite."
Or any number of heroes from the Marvel
or D.C. cinematic...universes.
Including, but certainly not limited to
Batman, Spider-man, Superman,
Aquaman, Wonderman, Wonderwoman, Catwoman,
Aquawoman, Joker Woman,
the Amazing Hulk,
or of course, Deadpool,
who, despite having the word dead in his name,
is not a movie monster of old but rather
a foul-mouthed anti-hero and friend
of the X-Men who does away with his foes
by deploying his unmatched arsenal
of put-downs and one-liners.
An attitude that dovetails beautifully
with Halloween's impish trickster spirit.
Whether wearing said costume to various spook-taculars
such as apple bobbings, haunted houses,
haunted hay rides, trails of terror,
corn mazes, concerts on the plaza,
emerging artist series,
or just good old fashioned trick or...

...treating.
Trick or treating of course being the popular activity
in which young people knock on the doors of neighbors,
all in an effort to score a scoop of sugary treats
to plunk in their plastic orange pumpkin pails.
Be those treats candy corn,
candy bars, both full-sized and fun-sized,
pixie sticks, wax lips,
fun dips, Laffy Taffy,
or my personal favorite
and everyone's personal favorite -- well --
-Candy cane? -No, Dots, Dots, Dots.
To say nothing of little baggies full of pennies,
designed for more noble philanthropic causes.
But just as the tastiest Halloween treat of all
is in many ways...

...safety, could it not be argued
that the greatest Halloween frights are the masks
that we choose to wear each day
in hopes that being rewarded with whatever
that un-noble thing is that necessitates us
putting on our metaphorical masks in the first place.
I must then ask on this, the spookiest day of the year --
We good? -Yeah.
-Great, thanks. Back to you, Jimmy.
-Thank you, Arthur!
