HAPPEN.
DRP IT'S OUR TOP STORY.
REPORTER: GOOD EVENING, DAN AND
ERIN.
HOLLISTER CITY COUNCIL WAS
SUPPOSED TO VOTE ON PERMANENT
APPROVALS FOR MEDICAL MARIJUANA
BUSINESSES.
BUT CONFLICTS OF INTEREST FOR
TWO OF THE COUNCIL MEMBERS
PREVENTED THAT VOTE FROM
HAPPENING.
MEDICAL MARIJUANA HOPEFULS IN
HOLLISTER WILL HAVE TO WAIT A
LITTLE LONGER FOR MONDAY'S
SCHEDULED VOTE TO APPROVE
PERMITS FOR MEDICAL CANNABIS
BUSINESSES DIDN'T HAPPEN.
THE COUNCIL DIDN'T HAVE ENOUGH
VOTERS, AFTER ONE COUNCIL MEMBER
WAS ABSENT AND TWO OTHERS HAD TO
SIT OUT OF THE VOTE DUE TO A
CONFLICT OF INTEREST.
DELAYING A VOTE PUTS THESE
PROSPECTIVE MARIJUANA BUSINESSES
IN A BIND AND PUTS NEW JOBS ON
HOLD.
>> THOSE APPLICATIONS ARE NOW
GOING TO GET LOGJAMMED UP
BECAUSE THESE APPLICATIONS
AREN'T ABLE TO MOVE THROUGH.
EVEN THE ONES THAT DON'T HAVE
CONFLICT OF INTEREST.
REPORTER: HIS BUSINESS HAS SOLD
PRODUCTS TO SOME OF THE MEDICAL
MARIJUANA APPLICANTS.
AND --
>> SO THAT'S THE REASON,
MR. COWERS RECUSED HIMSELF, BUT
ONLY AFTER THE DAMAGE IS DONE.
REPORTER: JEFF KIRK WAS PART OF
THE COMMITTEE WHO ORIGINALLY PUT
THE ORDINANCE TOGETHER, HE
ADMITS HE'S NOT HAPPY WITH THE
WAY THIS PROCESS IS UNFOLDING.
HE AND OTHER NEIGHBORS DIDN'T
WANT MARIJUANA BUSINESSES SO
CLOSE TO HOMES LIKE THE ONE
HOPING TO COME IN ON INDUSTRIAL.
>> THE CLOSEST RESIDENCIES
156 FEET.
THEY'RE GETTING IN BY SIX FEET
FROM HOUSES.
>> IT APPEARS HE MIGHT USE HIS
POLICE TO SET THOSE BUILDINGS UP
INTO A POSITION SO THAT THE
MARIJUANA INDUSTRY COULD COME
IN.
REPORTER: BUT CLOWER TOLD US
THAT'S NOT THE CASE, HE DIDN'T
SIT THIS ONE OUT SOONER BECAUSE
NO SPECIFIC SITES HAVE BEEN
NAMED IN THE APPLICATION PROCESS
YET.
>> I THINK IT'S A BAD CALL.
REPORTER: A DELAYED VOTE LEAVING
THE INDUSTRY IN TEMPORARY LIMBO.
AND A NEW INDUSTRY LEAVING A
COMMUNITY DIVIDED.
HOLLISTER CITY COUNCIL PLANS TO
TAKE UP THE VOTE AGAIN ON AUGUST 1.
THE NUMBER OF DISPENSARIES
