This is my review and installation of the Mopar fuel door with Jeep logo, fitting all
1997 to 2006 Wranglers.
This is available in both chrome and aluminum.
The chrome is going to be a little bit more expensive.
But you can get whichever version you like best for your build.
Today, we're going to talk through the installation of this fuel door, which is a very simple
one out of three-wrench install.
This is going to bolt directly in place, without the need to drill anything.
But we'll talk more about that installation in just a second.
Your Jeep TJ has an exposed fuel filler cap and if you're looking to finish off the look
of the side of your Jeep a little bit, you don't like that more rugged, exposed look.
Adding a fuel door like this one is going to be a nice option.
Now, this fuel door is from Mopar.
It has "Jeep" on it, and it is going to be made of some higher-quality components, and
higher-quality finishes, with the chrome being an option.
So this is going to be drastically more expensive than some of the other fuel doors on the market.
In fact, you can get a locking fuel door from some other companies out there for half the
price that you can get this non-locking fuel door.
So this is going to be a lot more expensive.
However, if you really like all of the parts to be made by Mopar, you know they're going
to fit, you just really like the fact that everything, the Jeep and the parts, are all
made by the same company, and you like the fact that this says "Jeep" right on it, then
this is going to be a good option for you.
But just know you are going to pay a premium for that.
This fuel door comes in two separate pieces.
There is a plastic insert piece that's going to get bolted onto your Jeep first, which
is going to give you the threaded holes that the actual door itself attaches onto.
The door is going to be metal.
As I said before, you can get this in aluminum or steel with a chrome finish on it.
The chrome is going to be a little bit pricier.
As you can see, it does have the Jeep logo on it, and that is part of what you're paying
for with the premium that you pay for this one over some of the other fuel doors on the
market.
As I said, this is going to install very easily onto your TJ.
This is a one out of three-wrench install that you can get done in right around a half
an hour.
The first step in the process is to remove the forward TORX bolts that are holding your
fuel filler neck into the existing fuel filler cavity on the side of your Jeep.
Once you remove those four screws, you can set the plastic insert in there.
Replace those four screws.
From that point, it's just a matter of bolting the fuel door itself onto that newly installed
plastic insert piece, and replacing your fuel filler cap.
You are going to need TORX bits, screwdriver, or a TORX bit in a socket driver, and you're
also going to need a set of Allen keys.
Because the rivets that are on the outside here, that are actually functional, they are
a hex head.
But other than that, no specialty tools, and this is going to be an easy install without
any drilling.
The aluminum version of this fuel door is around $120, while the chrome is right around
$170.
As I said, that is significantly more expensive than some of the other fuel doors out there.
Some of those other fuel doors are going to be made of similar material.
Some are even going to have additional functionality, being locking versus this non-locking one.
But these are still going to be more expensive, because they come out of a box that says "Mopar"
on it and they have "Jeep" stamped on it, and that's okay.
If you like all of your parts to be Mopar, just like your Jeep, if you like the fact
that this has the Jeep logo right on it, and you're willing to pay a premium, this is going
to be a great option.
However, if you're not interested in those factors, if you just want a fuel door covered,
you can save some money by going with one of those other brands.
So if you're looking to finish off the look of the side of your Jeep by covering up that
otherwise unfinished-looking fuel filler cap with the fuel door, and you really like the
fact that this is a piece made by Mopar with the Jeep logo on it and you're willing to
pay a premium for that, I think this is going to be a really nice option for you.
