Youtube daily Apr 25 2018

- I've been making YouTube videos

for a few years now, and every time I make a video,

no matter what the subject is,

people always ask me the exact same question.

What's that watch you're wearing?

It's different every time.

This time it's a Fossil Q hybrid

something or other, I don't know.

But I like using Android phones,

and I like wearing smartwatches,

but when you use an Android phone,

and you want to wear a smartwatch,

your choices are actually kinda grim.

There's so many of 'em, but none of 'em

are really that good.

So I'm trying to figure out what to do

about that situation.

Now, maybe the first question shouldn't be,

which smartwatch should I get if I use an Android phone?

The first question should probably be,

do I need a smartwatch at all?

And yeah, that's a totally fair question.

For a lot of people, it's about fitness.

It's about tracking your steps,

and tracking your exercise, but I don't know,

that's not me, I care about steps,

but I don't work out enough, and I don't need

a smartwatch for that.

For me, it's about notifications,

and specifically, it's about treating them

as ambient information instead of something

that's constantly pestering me.

I really like wearing a smartwatch

because when my wrist buzzes or my phone buzzes,

I can just glance down at my watch, see if it's

something I care about or not,

and move on with my day.

I try to have the same relationship

with all the information streaming into my phone,

that I do with just a clock.

I can look at it when I need the information

and ignore it when I don't.

So, if you're an Android user and you want to have

that same relationship with notifications

that I do, what do you do?

So the obvious answer should be if you have

an Android phone, you should get an Android smartwatch.

Android Wear.

Except it's not called Android Wear anymore,

it's called Wear OS, 'cause Google wants everybody

to know that it also works with an iPhone.

But, it really works better with Android.

Anyway, the problem with Wear OS is Google hasn't

done right by its users with this platform.

There's a bunch of problems actually.

So the first one, Ron Amadeo wrote a

really good article a couple of month ago

over at Ars Technica, pointing out that the

vast majority of Wear OS watches use this

ancient Qualcomm processor, the 2100,

that hasn't been updated in two years,

and there's really nothing on the horizon.

And what that means is if you go out

and just buy an Android Wear watch,

it's probably going to be too slow,

it's probably not going to have great battery life,

you're probably going to have not a great experience.

On top of that, if you just go out and buy

an Android Wear watch, you're probably going

to buy it from the people that are making them these days,

which are Google's fashion partners,

like Fossil, or Kate Spade, or Michael Kors,

or whatever.

And so you're paying a premium for this old technology.

But even if you get past all of that,

the basic experience of using a Wear OS watch,

doesn't hold up this year.

They're kinda slow, the third-party apps are

not that great, if you can find them at all,

and digging through the piles and piles

of watch faces to find the one good one

that you like just takes forever.

It's really just a huge problem all around,

and I've just been waiting for Google to fix it.

What I would like to do is tell you

that I've used all of the available smartwatches

that work with Android and I've picked the

best one for most people.

And I've used a bunch of 'em, but I can't give you

the best one for most people because I kind

of don't think there is one.

Instead, the best thing I can offer you is this

decision tree.

And your first decision is, do you want a screen

on your smartwatch or not?

If you do, you've got two branches.

You've got Wear OS, which we've just talked about,

and we've got a couple of third-party options

that I like.

If you don't care about a screen,

but you still want a smartwatch,

there's another branch over here called hybrid.

And so I wanna go through these different options with you.

Okay, so you want a screen.

We've already gone over Wear OS.

It's, it's fine.

But if that doesn't appeal to you,

there is a brand new smartwatch

that just hit the scene.

It's the Fitbit Versa.

And I don't love it.

As a fitness watch, it's pretty solid.

It fits into Fitbit's whole ecosystem,

but I think it looks pretty terrible.

The watch face options are even worse.

The third-party app support is non-existent.

Battery life is great though.

But as a general smartwatch, I don't think it's good.

A better option is the Samsung Gear line.

This is the Gear Sport.

And I like it a lot actually.

On the watch itself, it's got this rotating bezel

so you can jam through your notifications really quickly.

There's not great third-party app support,

but there's a little bit.

The problem that I have with this is

if you don't use a Samsung phone,

in order to get this thing up and running,

you have to install at least four different

pieces of software.

The Gear software, the notification thing,

S Health, some other thing.

And you could even get up to six.

And that's just a lot of Samsung crap on my phone,

and I don't love it.

So, the watch is fine.

I think it's actually pretty good.

It does most of the things right

that Android Wear gets wrong, it's just,

it's a lot of Samsung.

Now the last branch in the decision tree

is this hybrid watch.

And so, here's one that I just got.

It's a Skagen, again.

And this is this Fossil I've been wearing.

They're basically the same watch.

And the thing that's interesting about this is

you don't get to see the content

of your notification, but it can still count your steps,

and it can still show you a little bit of information.

So when a text message comes in,

I've configured this thing to have the

minute hand point to the three.

Or when it's a calendar appointment it points to the nine.

Or whatever, and so when my phone buzzes,

or my wrist vibrates, I can glance down

at my watch and it'll point down to,

I don't know, six, and I know in my head,

that that's a Slack message.

I'll look at it later.

But if it points at 12, it's a call,

and I should pull my phone out right now.

The other reason I really like hybrid smartwatches is

you don't have to charge the damn things every day.

A battery in this thing could last

anywhere from three to six months

depending on how many notifications you get.

It's the watch I've been wearing the most lately.

So that's the decision tree for smartwatches

for Android users, as far as I see it.

The place where I've landed is I've mostly been using

a hybrid smartwatch, but I don't know,

I kinda want to go back to Wear OS.

Which seems like a really bad choice,

but I really like having the weather on my wrist,

and I really like seeing my next calendar appointment.

And to do that, you need a screen.

But even though it might be the right choice for me,

I don't think I can recommend a Wear OS watch

to really, anybody else.

There's the fact that the processor is really old.

But more to the point, these watches aren't that cheap.

Because Google partnered with all these fashion brands,

it means that you're having to pay fashion brand prices.

You're paying for the design and the brand name.

And that extra money just doesn't seem worth it to me

for a platform that I don't know where it's going.

It's great that there are so many choices

of different watch styles and different kinds of

watch bands and all the other stuff that you can get

with Android Wear, but if none of those choices

are a home run, then what's the point

of having all that choice?

I really hope that this year, Google can find a way

to give better options to Android users

when it comes to smartwatches because looking around,

it's way past time.

Hi, everybody.

Thank you so much for watching.

And if you've gotten this far,

maybe jump down to the comments

and let me know what is the most important thing

for you in a smartwatch.

For me it was, I don't know, battery life

for hybrids, maybe it's something different for you.

Eddy Current - Eddy Current Definition - Duration: 1:07.

Eddy currents are loops of electrical current induced within conductors by a changing magnetic

field in the conductor due to Faraday's law of induction.

Eddy currents flow in closed loops within conductors, in planes perpendicular to the

magnetic field.

They can be induced within nearby stationary conductors by a time-varying magnetic field

created by an AC electromagnet or transformer, for example, or by relative motion between

a magnet and a nearby conductor.

The magnitude of the current in a given loop is proportional to the strength of the magnetic

field, the area of the loop, and the rate of change of flux, and inversely proportional

to the resistivity of the material.

The good, the bad and who should play in midfield vs. Stoke? – Debating Liverpool 5-2 Roma - Duration: 9:38.

The good, the bad and who should play in midfield vs. Stoke? – Debating Liverpool 5-2 Roma

Liverpool ran riot in the Champions League once more, beating Roma 5-2—but it wasnt all positive ahead of the semi-final second leg in Italy.

While the Reds can look firmly forward to completing the job in Rome next week and moving into the final itself, theres another game to come beforehand.

Klopps side host Stoke City at Anfield on Saturday in the Premier League, looking to get back to winning ways after dropping two points last weekend at West Brom.

The manager will have a delicate balancing act to perform: keep players fresh for the second leg, while picking a team to get three points against a side fighting for their Premier League lives.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlains injury means hell have to do that with just three fit senior midfielders at his disposal.

The good….

1-That spell when we were relentless, not just accepting a lead but seizing the moment to kill teams off.

Its imperative to be ruthless and that streak is really developing nicely under Klopp.

Firmino was immaculate, Salah world class.

2-Seriously, where do you start? This Liverpool team is unbelievable.

Salah is the best player in the world on current form.

What he is doing is beyond belief now.

Firmino has to receive enormous praise too for his all-round performance.

The attacking football Klopp has got this team playing is a joy to behold, and the performance between minutes 20 and 70 was up there with the best I've ever seen by Liverpool.

One foot in the final!.

3-The single best point of last night was how surreal that half-hour either side of half-time was, but at the same time it was almost expected.

The fact that spells like that are becoming normal under Klopp is incredible.

4-I thought Karius did very well, and showed why I like him so much.

Really hope people give him the confidence and back him, even if he makes a little mistake.

Both full-backs were very good once again, especially Trent; so confident and mature for his age.

Those two positions are sorted for the coming seasons.

The underrated Wijnaldum was impressive after he came on, always spot on in those big matches.

Last but most importantly, the sensational front three.

We all love to watch Messi, we all know how good Ronaldo is, but the best thing about our attack is the way they play together.

It's a joy to watch how they combine, how they play for each other instead of looking to create their own success.

The bad….

1-Clearly, a fan going to the match and ending up in hospital.

Theres simply no place for that around football and it is imperative that the clubs and police work to ensure a repeat performance does not occur before the second leg.

UEFA must also step up and take responsibility, now.

The authorities are quick enough to do it when someone wears sponsored underpants or, as was the case before the first leg against Man City, throw drinks at a bus.

Attempting to take someones life is off the scale compared to these misdemeanours, very literally the worst kind of act.

Romas statement is a step in the right direction but its of scant consolation to the supporter who was attacked.

2-Lovren again cost his side dearly, which is a shame because he has been good of late.

You just cannot trust him.

Klopp is a genius in my eyes, but substituting Salah was a bad move and Roma grew in confidence because of it.

You wouldn't see Messi or Ronaldo taken off at that stage of a semi-final.

The injury to Oxlade-Chamberlain was very sad, and it is not only a massive blow to him but also the team. Here's to a speedy recovery.

3-Worst was watching Mane struggle for confidence after missing that first chance, thats the biggest difference between him and Salah at the minute.

He lets misses get to him and affect the rest of his game.

The other thing I dont like is the mental factor of taking Salah off.

Lovrens misjudgement for the first was awful too, he has too many of those.

4-First of all just another Lovren mistake.

How many is he allowed to make? He actually had a very good match until that poor moment, which basically sums him up perfectly.

Him mistiming the ball is not even the worst thing, it's the position he takes up.

Our defensive line would have been perfect if Lovren held his own.

He is around 10m behind it. Second is the injury to Oxlade-Chamberlain.

He was in such good form recently.

…and who should play in midfield against Stoke?.

1-To start it needs to be the three seniors.

The league isnt finished with yet and the Reds cannot slip up now.

Theres time between games, so start Henderson, Wijnaldum and Milner and change one or two when we have worked a reasonable lead.

Woodburn should be involved at some point; hes likely to be called upon across the remainder of the campaign so get him up to speed quickly.

2-I think Woodburn has to start, even though he will likely be off the pace, and I wouldn't be unhappy to see Jones brought in, too.

He's a great talent.

I would personally start all of the front three and hope they can get the job done, and consider leaving Henderson, Milner and Wijnaldum out.

Maybe just start Gini alongside two youngsters, considering he didn't play the entire 90 minutes on Tuesday.

3-We can probably play Henderson, Wijnaldum and Milner because there are three clear days either side of the game.

Possibly give Alexander-Arnold a go in there for Milner if he needs a rest, but its a huge game and we could do with putting the top four to bed.

4-I would go very strong vs.

Stoke and not make more than three or four changes to the team.

We play Tuesday, Saturday, Wednesday so I think there is enough time after Stoke to prepare for the second leg.

The thing I would do is go back to a 3-4-3 system for once, with Henderson and Wijnaldum in central midfield.

8 Surprising Uses of Vicks Vaporub - Duration: 2:33.

8 Surprising Uses of Vicks Vaporub

One of the most used medications for congestion is Vicks VapoRub, which has been around for

over 100 years.

This cream is used on the chest, back, and throat to treat nasal congestion and coughs.

1.

Treats Headaches

Vicks VapoRub can help lessen the pain from tension or sinus headaches.

It can even help treat a migraine headache.

This is because of the camphor, eucalyptus oil, and menthol found in Vicks VapoRub.

2.

Relives Achy Muscles

Another great use for Vicks VapoRub is to soothe sore, overworked and achy muscles.

This is because of the menthol in it, which helps blood flow properly and quickly soothes

achy muscles.

3.

Soothes Insect Bites

If you have chigger, ant, mosquito, or any other insect bites, Vicks VapoRub can help

ease the itchiness and burning feeling.

The cooling menthol in Vicks soothes the itching feeling, and can lessen the risk of blisters

and infections.

4.

Combats Toenail Fungus

Vicks VapoRub can also help stop your feet from getting toenail fungus.

The thymol ingredient in Vicks helps stop the growth of fungus, possibly because of

its antiseptic, antimicrobial, and antibacterial properties.

5.

Clear Acne

Vicks VapoRub is one of the easiest ways to clear acne problems.

The menthol in it can ease pain and swelling.

It can also help in clearing up acne in a few days.

6.

Treats Cracked Heals

To keep your heels healthy, smooth, and free of cracks, Vicks VapoRub is a great help.

Because of its menthol, camphor, and turpentine oil ingredients, this cream traps in moisture

and heals cracked heels.

7.

Treats Warts

Vicks is also great for treating warts, especially periungual warts.

The menthol, thymol and eucalyptus oil in it helps kill the virus that causes warts.

They also help shrink and dry out warts.

8.

Diminishes Stretch Marks

Try using Vicks VapoRub to lighten ugly stretch marks.

Because it has methanol and eucalyptus oil, Vicks can naturally help fade stretch marks.

The cedar leaf oil, petrolatum, camphor, and turpentine oil help lessen skin dryness that

make stretch marks stand out.

Also, it has the anti-inflammatory parts of eucalyptus, which lightens stretch marks and

other small scars.

Positives reign as Anfield witnesses one of its greatest European nights in Liverpool's history - Duration: 9:13.

Positives reign as Anfield witnesses one of its greatest European nights in Liverpool's history

Liverpools 5-2 victory over Roma in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final should be roundly lauded despite conceding twice late on.

After the colossal achievement of overcoming Man City 5-1 on aggregate in the quarter-finals, some apprehension was in the air ahead of Romas trip to Anfield.

Suddenly, Liverpool werent the underdogs—a situation they seem to thrive in—and concern was voiced about underestimating a strong Roma team.

A shaky opening 20 minutes seemed to prove that theory correct, with the visitors impressing, but when the Reds took a stranglehold on the game we were treated to something truly special.

The attacking play that Liverpool destroyed their hapless opponents with was the greatest we have seen under Jurgen Klopp, and some of the most unplayable and intense football in the clubs history.

Mohamed Salahs double was astonishing, the quality in Roberto Firminos boots beggared belief and the vigour and intelligence provided by the midfield outclassed a Roma side with imposing internationals in the middle of the park.

Despite such a thrilling performance—perhaps one of the finest ever produced in a European Cup semi-final—some supporters were flat, following two late goals pulled back by the visitors.

While a level-headed approach should never be mocked, there are times when the negatives on the pitch should be put aside, with the positives celebrated long into the night.

This was an occasion that stands out more than most in that respect.

Why the Negativity?.

Maybe its not wanting to get ahead of themselves, maybe its being too perfectionist, maybe its expecting too much.

Whatever it is, why cant fans just enjoy one of the most adrenaline-fuelled wins they will ever see?.

For about 50 minutes, Liverpool were bordering on perfect, and any neutral watching around the world would have applauded the magic on show.

Instead of that awe-inspiring spell being the main point of focus, in which five goals were scored and Roma were made to resemble a pub team, it is the mini-fightback by the Giallorossi that many have been quick to leap on, which is infuriating.

This is not naively ignoring what was a frustrating end to the game—5-0 should never have been allowed to become 5-2—and Klopp more than anyone will know that.

This is telling supporters to drink in a match that they may never witness the likes of again for many years.

Such a winning margin, under such thrilling circumstances, just doesnt happen in a Champions League semi-final.

It is completely understandable why some may look back and think if only Dejan Lovren had decided to jump, or if only Klopp hadnt substituted Salah, but hindsight is a wonderful thing.

There were moments earlier on in the night that could easily have gone against the Reds, and the tie would have a very different look to it.

What if Aleksandar Kolarovs thumping shot had nestled into the top corner early on? Loris Karius would have been crucified for a major error, and Liverpool would have found themselves 1-0 down and under huge pressure.

What if Salah had been flagged for a convincing offside at 2-0, instead of racing through and allowing Sadio Mane to add a third?.

Would five goals still have been scored?.

In a match of such magnitude, you have to accept that not everything will generally pan out to perfection.

There will be twists and turns, as has been the case in every European semi-final in Liverpools history, and moments when the opposition prevail.

If you were balancing the positives against the negatives at Anfield, it would be like putting Jan Molby and Yossi Benayoun on some weighing scales.

Stay Positive.

Sometimes you wonder what some supporters are getting out of following Liverpool so avidly, given their tendency to focus solely on the negatives.

We are all in this to be entertained, to get away from real life from time to time, and to watch the Reds win football matches.

When they go and treat us to an exhibition like the did on Tuesday, in the semi-finals of a tournament they were never tipped to come close to winning, you dont expect to hear whinging.

This may all sound preachy and self-righteous in itself, but if you cant enjoy that Roma game you will never be happy as a Red.

There will always be something to pick holes in.

What next: huge criticism of the team if they lose in the final against one of the biggest clubs in world football?.

Will it be unacceptable if Klopps men progress next week then cant get the better of Bayern Munich or Real Madrid? To some it no doubt will be.

This is the best, most aesthetically pleasing Liverpool side for almost 30 years, and it is only improving further under the wonderful management of Klopp.

They are 90 minutes away from a first Champions League final in 11 years, just 12 months after returning to the competition for the first time after a frustrating absence.

The progress has been beyond our wildest dreams, less than three years after Liverpool were humiliated 6-1 away to Stoke City.

The 13th time @LFC have scored 4 or more goals in a game this season – their best since the 1895-96 campaign (16).

Yes, it might all go horribly wrong in Rome and Liverpool could crash out, but that wont be because of the two goals conceded at Anfield.

They have shown that they are far superior to this Roma outfit, and while others of a negative persuasion will tell us that Barcelona lost 3-0 there, Klopp will not allow the same to happen.

There have been many times down the years when Liverpool have deserved all the flak and negativity that has come their way, including during the Germans tenure.

Criticism is healthy and fair when it is warranted and constructive.

To see such negativity flying around in the hours since the final whistle against Roma is galling, though, regardless of the annoyance surrounding that late lapse.

Imagine being told Liverpool would win the Champions League semi-final first leg 5-2 back in August, and then imagine being told you would be moaning afterwards.

That is how mad some of the response has been since Anfield emptied and the Reds left themselves with one foot in Kiev next month.

There will time for negativity in future days, months, years and decades, no doubt, but please enjoy this one.

It was sensational.
