Chinae Alexander's $3,300 Home Tour In VR 360 | Sweet Digs VR 360 | Refinery29 - Duration: 5:55.

Hi I'm Chinae Alexander and welcome to My Sweet Digs.

Before you come in we have a few house rules.

Number one you can just subscribe.

Subscribe buttons somewhere down here.

And second, if you have a VR headset like

this one just go to the play bar and hit the

VR button and we'll be ready to roll.

Alright come on in.

I'm so excited to welcome you to my place.

We are in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn.

So this is my two-bedroom apartment that I pay $3,300.

It is way too much.

But I kind of justify it because not only

do I work here but I also love to entertain.

While we're in my dining room let's talk about entertaining.

I really wanted a space where I could have all my friends over to eat.

This dining room table, as you can see it's it seats six right now but it extends all

the way to 12, and so I really wanted a space

where you could actually sit around eat and

then linger over to the living room.

So one of the biggest things because I entertain

for a lot of people I needed a place to put all of the stuff.

So I have my china cabinet here, this is from

Ikea even though it doesn't look like it,

it houses all my pottery that I've made.

My favorite things I've made I think are these

tiny little sake cups because it's super special

to like cheers with something that feels really handmade.

But then you close this and if we go down you're like what is?

This this is actually a weight.

I believe it's 12 pounds and you can be like

doing all your exercises but then you're like

still really chic.

So I'm gonna also take you now over to my

living area so we can see more.

Okay think you're gonna want to come a little

closer for this one come on over.

Welcome to my bar.

I haven't quite found my real dog yet so I

have to have a bar dog, and you put alcohol

in his butt!

While we're here I wanted to just show you my furniture.

So I ordered these pieces from Interior Define.

This awesome like mid range custom furniture company.

Above me is a dead fiddle leaf which looks really sad so if any of you in the comments

know what to do about this.

Is this dead?

Should I just end its life completely?

Can I revive this?

Anyway I don't know.

I have lip gloss all over hidden in every

little corner so people come over and they're like

"why is there lip gloss here?"

I'm like why isn't there a lip gloss here?

So we'll just actually turn around and we'll

head on over and I'll show you kind of some

of my favorite vintage pieces that I've gotten for this place.

This room in particular is just my favorite.

I'm gonna show you some actual living plants.

These look really good.

This could use some work, it's kind of sad.

You know what I need?

I need a hot plant guy that comes about once

a week and he comes in waters my plants, and

tells me what to do because this one is looking really sad.

Anyway moving on.

And then if you look over here this is one

of my most most prized possessions in my apartment

because I'm from Texas.

I'm so happy to have something from home in my place.

Next up I want to walk over and show you my kitchen.

So you've already seen that I have a huge

living room and a huge dining room, but inevitably

this is where everyone always ends up.

They always end up centered around my island.

And I usually put cocktails, and food, and stuff

out here so I really love that I have this

and then it's open to the rest of my space.

I love having people here.

In New York you rarely ever get to have huge

dinners and actually linger afterwards.

I think we're done in here.

Okay so here is the first of my two beauty spaces.

This is about one tenth of my skincare collection,

but these are the products I test now, so part

of my job is I love testing things I love

trying out new products.

And so here is where some of them are housed.

We have them kind of all organized by different types of skincare.

I think there's more beauty to see and I think

it's best that we head there now.

One of the most important things I wanted in my apartment,

and the reason I actually

looked for a two-bedroom apartment , was that

I wanted to have one space that was really

dedicated to me being creative.

We are in my filming studio / beauty studio,

and this is where I house all of my makeup

and a lot of my filming equipment.

The closet has so much stuff!

Everyone has to have that one junk closet

in their house that's filled with like god knows what.

I film a lot of my makeup face tutorials in here,

and then also I just really, really love being in here.

So I'll come in here and play,

and hang out and it's a really nice calming

space for me.

Now it's time to show you where I sleep.

Let's go!

Oh I didn't see you there!

No, I'm just kidding, wait, welcome to my bedroom.

This is a vintage Korean flag.

I was born in Seoul, South Korea so this really

makes me feel like grounded and it reminds

me my family, and I just want to call attention

to this because probably seeing it up there.

Another dead plant.

I really need that hot plant guy.

And last but not least before you go one last

hidden lipgloss.

This is the most vital, this is the one that

I do before I go to bed.

Time for me to take a nap and time for you to go!

Alright guys I think that's it for me.

Thanks for watching Sweet Digs on Refinery29

and we'll see you guys on the next one!

Bye!

Cupcake Icing Techniques | Bluprint | Michaels - Duration: 5:07.

- I'm Rachel Teufel, and this is my Maker's Story.

Cupcakes are a really great way

to practice your piping skills.

When I first started decorating,

we were taught to practice on a flat board.

And that's great,

just to kind of get a little bit of control.

But in the end, all of your cakes, or cupcakes,

have more surface to them.

They're curved.

They're not just a totally flat surface

in the perfect ideal position.

So it's better in my opinion

to actually practice on a cupcake.

And what's better than eating your own mistakes?

To get started you're gonna need some cupcakes

baked in liners,

a cupcake corer, a spatula, as well as a few sprinkles.

The first thing I'm gonna do

is put a little hole inside my cupcake using the corer,

and it removes a chunk of cake.

Using the spatula, you wanna release the cake.

Go ahead and add your sprinkles into the cupcake.

And then replace your cake.

To ice your cupcakes, you'll need a bag, a 1M tip,

a pair of scissors, a bag tie, a spatula,

butter cream, and of course cupcakes.

So the first thing you need to do is take your bag,

and you're gonna insert the tip all the way through the bag.

I like to cut the tip of the bag with a pair of scissors

just by dragging it around.

To fill your bag, you'll wanna fold it over your hand first,

and I insert, and then just drag the spatula

up against your hand,

and it will stay in the bag where it's supposed to.

And I like to set it down and just use the side of my hand

to push the icing all the way down, twist it,

and add your bag tie.

To start, you're gonna go completely vertical with your bag,

barely touch the icing, and start squeezing.

And then rotate just back and forth a little bit,

and pull away.

And that's how you do the star dollop.

The next cupcake style I wanna show you is called a Rosette.

And to add a little more dimension to this one,

I'm actually gonna use

two different colors of butter cream in my bag.

And now I have a light version as well as a dark version

of the same color.

To fill your bag,

we're gonna start with the same cup shape around our hand.

I wanna highlight my rosette with a darker pink color,

so I'm going to insert this all the way down,

and just swipe it across one edge of the bag.

And then I'm gonna come with my lighter color,

and fill in the rest of the area.

I wanna make sure that lighter color

gets all the way down to the tip

before I push both of them through.

It's actually gonna start to come out

just one color first.

So you want to be able to wipe that off on your bowl

so that you can see both colors.

And you're gonna start vertically again,

and this time as we squeeze,

we're gonna go in a circular motion

all the way around the cupcake.

And as you come back,

you're gonna release your pressure and pull away.

Another design I'd like to show you,

is called a Spiral Pedal.

And this time,

instead of starting in the center of the cupcake,

we're gonna start on the outside edge.

And you're gonna pipe just a little question mark,

stopping and pulling up when you get to the center.

Rotate your cupcake and pipe again.

For the last pedal, be sure to stop right in the center

and pull straight up so that you don't disrupt

any of the other pedals.

Now that we've iced our cupcakes,

I wanna show you a few ways to embellish them.

Let's start first by talking through what we need

in order to make a sugar leaf.

So we need a rolling pin, a dusting pouch,

some gum paste, a leaf cutter, or a food safe knife,

and a spatula is a little helpful here as well,

and I'll show you why.

So to get started we're gonna use our dusting pouch first.

And this is just to make your surface less sticky,

so that when you roll out your gum paste

it doesn't get caught.

And using your leaf cutter,

just go ahead and press and do a little jiggle,

and that will release your leaf.

Now in order to add

just a little bit of texture to your leaf,

you can use the tip of your spatula.

And now just using your fingers, you're gonna shape it.

And you're gonna set it up on its side

with just a little bit of a bend.

And we're gonna allow those to dry for just a little bit.

You want it to be firm enough so that it holds its shape.

You can add all sorts of edible items

to embellish your cupcakes,

like sparkling sugar and sprinkles.

Be creative, make them fun,

and these small little cupcakes

can make a huge impression on your next event.

Hand Lettering Tutorial | Bluprint | Michaels - Duration: 4:52.

(light upbeat music)

- I started hand lettering about four years ago,

took a trip abroad to Southeast Asia.

During this trip, I fell in love with hand lettering

because it enabled me to journal and document my trip

in a very artful and illustrative way.

Hand lettering is an awesome place

for anybody to get started.

There's a very low barrier to entry.

All you need is paper and pencil.

It takes practice.

But very quickly with practice you can start

to see improvement, and for me it's a very satisfying thing

to see yourself getting better at it.

(light upbeat music)

You start with a blank piece of paper

and creating something beautiful

from scratch, from nothing.

It's very different.

Letter forms, we're all using them on a regular basis

throughout our entire lives,

so we're far more familiar with that.

Yes, it's very different than handwriting,

but the content or the subject

in which you are creating or drawing

is something that's very familiar to us,

whether it's subconscious or not.

I'm Adam Vicarel and this is my maker story.

(upbeat music)

To begin, we'll start with our supplies.

We have sketching pencils.

You need an eraser, a ruler.

Here I have mixed media paper.

Then lastly we have pens, markers,

and then just some simple sketching paper.

We're actually gonna start by

doing a couple quick thumbnail sketches.

(upbeat music)

Here I'm just exploring different ways

to draw some words in script,

exploring different sizes of our words,

keeping things super rough and simple to start.

Highly encourage you to get messy

and not worry about perfection here.

Once you've done a few different sketches

and you land on one that you're starting to like,

you choose one direction and move forward with that.

I'm going to move on to our nicer paper,

set my sketches aside just for reference.

We're going to start by drawing some guidelines

on our final piece of paper.

We'll constantly be referencing our initial sketch.

Very, very light we will draw the lines

in which our words will be sitting.

(upbeat music)

Next, now that we have our guide lines down on paper,

we will start to very roughly and loosely draw in

the very basic, fundamental shapes of our letter forms.

Now that I have a very loose idea

of where my letter forms live on the page,

I'm actually going to go back in here

and really quickly draw a few angled guidelines

so I can be sure that all of my letter forms

are leaning a similar direction.

(upbeat music)

These are literally just points of reference,

so draw them light, and draw them in a way

that you could easily erase them

towards the end of your drawing.

(upbeat music)

As you continue working through your drawing,

what I want you to see is that I've started very rough

and I'm slowly working towards refining

each individual letter form.

Think of this as looking through a pair of binoculars.

When you first look through, everything is very blurry,

and you slowly twist things into focus.

I'm basically gonna go back through

and just add thicker elements

to different areas of my letters.

Now that we've completed our sketch,

I'm gonna go back in and clean up

some of the edges of my letter forms

by just erasing some of those excess pencil lines.

(light upbeat music)

Now we're gonna go back through with one more

definitive pencil line across all of our letter forms,

and then we'll be ready to move on to the marker.

(light upbeat music)

We're gonna move on to our dual brush pen.

First we're gonna start with the thinner side of our marker.

We're gonna go through and outline each of our letter forms.

Next we'll move on to the brush side of the pen

where we will fill each of the letter forms.

(light upbeat music)

We've just completed filling our letter forms

with our brush pen, and now we're gonna move on

to the final step, and that's outlining

with our illustration pen.

I'm gonna go around and actually outline

each of my letter forms individually.

What this does is it adds a final level of refinement.

(upbeat music)

This is a step that you don't necessarily have to do.

However, I think it makes your final piece pop.

(upbeat music)

Once you've finished outlining all of your letter forms,

we'll go back in one last time with our eraser

and erase any additional pencil lines.

(upbeat music)

In a nice final finishing touch on your piece,

you can pop this in a very simple black frame

and hang it in your house for people to enjoy

your beautiful new piece of artwork.

With a few unique embellishments,

you can showcase your hand lettering

in all sorts of ways.

What phrase will inspire you?

(light upbeat music)

3 Ways To Become A Morning Person | Inc. - Duration: 1:43.

- A lot of people don't want to wake up early in the morning

because then they might feel

like they haven't had enough sleep.

(dreamy curious music)

There are three major reasons physiologically

that people don't want to be a morning person.

One is that when you wake up,

you might feel very groggy because you're dehydrated.

And that's the usual time that you think I need a coffee.

But it's actually a really good idea

to have a tall glass of water by your bed

and to drink that immediately, 'cause that

can make you feel much better.

And being hydrated actually increases your memory,

your attention, and your ability to focus.

A lot of people don't want to wake up early in the morning

because then they might feel like they

haven't had enough sleep, and it's really important

for the brain to get seven to nine hours.

So if you're going to start setting your alarm

an hour earlier to become more of a morning person,

then obviously make sure that you do make the effort

to go to bed that little bit earlier.

That will make sure you still get enough sleep.

Related to that is the fact that people think well,

if I don't sleep enough, I won't be productive the next day.

But actually, we know that people who do aerobic exercise

in the morning are 15% more productive that day.

So it really is worth becoming a morning person,

even if it just means that you get that exercise done

before you start your work day.

If you can manage to improve your hydration levels,

get enough sleep, and fit some exercise

into your morning routine, you will find yourself

so much more productive and really seeing the benefits

of being a morning person.

And that's all likely to make you keep wanting to do it.

RVing Maine with Kara and Nate - Duration: 2:14.

(gentle music)

- [Nate] We're Kara and Nate, we are travel YouTubers,

and over the last two and a half years,

our adventures have taken us to 77 countries.

- [Kara] But this week, we're back in the U.S.,

and we're traveling around Maine in an RV.

(gentle music)

- Today is day one on our RV trip through Portland, Maine.

Eating lobster rolls and exploring the coast

are the reasons that we chose to come to Maine.

(gentle music)

- There's lots and lots of butter.

(laughing)

(ocean waves)

Sometimes finding a good place to work

while traveling can be difficult.

We love having the RV as a mobile office,

because it means that adventure

is always just a stone's throw away.

(ocean waves)

- RV trips aren't all about being in nature.

It's fun to get into the cities, as well.

- One of our favorite things to do

when traveling is eat the local food.

So, today we're going to one of the best

seafood restaurants in all of Maine.

(gentle folk music)

- [Restaurant Employee] Start with these.

- [Kara] This place is amazing.

We just got our first course,

a bunch of fresh oysters.

It's super fresh, I love it.

We've done a lot of cool stuff in our travels,

but getting to sail a 1920s schooner at sunset

is not something I thought we'd get to do.

(gentle folk music)

(ocean waves)

- [Nate] Traveling in an RV this week really opened

our eyes to the freedom and convenience

of having a true, mobile office.

- [Nate and Kara] And, we can't wait to do it again.

(ocean waves, seagulls squawking)
